my husband recently opened up his own optometry practice and not only did we get an amazing and beautiful arrangement from Mints, but also got some lovely potted plants - spruced the grand opening right up!
the arrangement is very original and clean (lemons in the vase), I can't imagine another place that could have done something so worthy of putting out on that brand new reception desk.
Little greenery oasis on Park Street. Blink and you'll miss it. It's literally the size of a doorway off the street. The long corridor into the shop is lined with cutesy potted plants. Quaint place to shop for that thoughtful bouquet or plant gift even for yourself!
Great place to buy a bouquet or something like that! Great flower shop!
I Love Mints!! It is a great place for gifts. They have a great selection and I can always find something.
Mint saved my butt.
It was Friday of Mother's Day weekend. I called in an order at 3pm and they delivered by the end of the day. This is huge! None of the other flower shops would help.
Thank you!
I love this place!! They have fantastic designs to choose from and their store is soooooooo cute. Their customer service is really good. Every time I go here I've always had a wonderful experience. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Mints is awesome! I've been working with them for couple years now and I trusted their creativity of bringing my brides and grooms' vision of flower decoration to life. I saw a lot of different flower arrangements from others florist, and I appreciate the fact that Mints uses fresh flowers for all! I hate that when the flowers turn brown in the middle of the day of my clients' weddings...but with Mints, they always keep in the fresh look! If you are looking for flowers for your wedding or just want to get a bouquet or daily home arrangement, check them out!
Yelp's 2 star designation of "Meh. I've experienced better" is pretty much right on with my experience with Mints.
I called several days ahead and made an appointment to speak with someone about doing the bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres for my wedding. First step. Good.
However, when I arrived for my appointment, I was told that they were running late with a previous client. Fine. Ok. No problem. It happens. However, 15 minutes later, I was still standing there (the place is tiny and there is nowhere to sit unless you're having a consultation) and there was no sign of the consultation even being close to wrapping up. Multiple laptops still out, couple still chatting away and flipping through books and binders, etc.
I was about a minute from just giving up and walking out when the consultant comes out and apologizes for leaving me standing there. Fine. Ok. Thank you for acknowledging that. However, she then goes back to the previous couple and hands the girl behind the counter an order form to go over with me.
Lady, I don't know flowers from molecular genetics. I am not a "flower person." I don't know what I want, and I'm certainly not ready to order anything without sitting down and talking about my options. The girl who helped me had some basic suggestions, but had virtually no technical knowledge, experience, or time to spend helping me figure out what I was going to need. I was out of there in less than 10 minutes from the time she started speaking to me, and no one ever followed up with me after the fact.
I'm usually pretty flexible, but if I have an appointment, I expect that appointment to be honored. I left feeling like since I wasn't going to be spending thousands on my flowers, they just passed me off. Not a good feeling.
1 star for making the cutest store out of what is basically a hallway;
1 star for being a family owned mom n'pop;
1 star for making me impulse buy plants in adorable little pots, that I KNOW i am going to kill later;
1 star for the fat little goldfish in the fountain out back who consistently eats herself into a food coma and floats at the top of the water like she is dead;
1 more star for how sweetly they wrap up your plants when you buy em,
yay for mints.
I REALLY REALLY want to like this place. I do! truly... but they just FAIL me! fail me i tell you!! why are their brains turned off? why do they have no concept of what i am talking about? why are they in fucking outer space!?? I have Never had a flower order go right here. One time i came in to pick some thing up and they didn't even know what i was talking about! i had the receipt and everything! they made it in a hurry right on the spot and thrusted it at me without a sorry. WHAT THE FUCK!? this place is such a cute and tiny place. completely adorable! but i am so close to setting it on fire and because so, you will never have my business again Mints!
a friend recommended them for wedding flowers so i checked out their website and requested more information.
the first email i got from them said that they require a minimum order of $2,500. i was a bit turned off by this but i was willing to at least talk to them first to find out if they were worth it, so i emailed them again and asked for a consultation.
it took them 6 days to respond to my email, by then, i've spoken with 4 other florist, who were much quicker to respond, did orders based on the amount of flowers you need (or had a lower min. order requirement) and scheduled consultations with me within a few days of the times i requested.
i'm not ruling out the possibility that they might be so good and overwhelmed with inquiries that they don't have time to respond to each customer, but i think there are plenty of talented floral designers out there who are more professional and more responsive, and that is very important to me, with less than 8 months to plan my wedding...
I Heart Mints Floral Design! Ever since I looked through their portfolio during our consultation, I've been in awwwee with them since. I'm so happy I used Mints as the florist for my wedding. My photographer even had a comment about how great their flowers looked! I highly recommend using Mints as your wedding florist! Their designs are so unique & artistic...i did extensive research and I couldn't find any other floral vendor in comparison. I met with a total of 6 florist and no one could have been as artistic & unique. I love their little studio in Alameda, I just want to buy everything in there!
One more thing...they really listen to what you want and their customer service is super great!
Mints is AWESOME! I used Mints as my florist for my wedding in 11/08 and I could not have been happier. They worked with my ideas and came up with some great designs for arrangements. Mints designs are unique and beautiful.
On my wedding day I was STRESSED but the flowers were there on time and where they needed to be. My bouquet was BEAUTIFUL and just how I had pictured it! Our ceremony arrangements were also gorgeous and our table arrangements were simple and elegant.
I, being the stressed bride that I was, even forgot to pay the deposit on time and when I called to freak out thinking they would have canceled the whole deal they just told me to bring the deposit the next day (two days before the wedding!), nice!
Bottom line: Beautiful flowers, unique designs, great service.
Creative! That's how I describe their work.
We hired Mints Flower for our wedding in The Fairmont San Francisco.
I was looking for a florist that can combine east & west flower arrangement style for my wedding. Mints Flower is one of the few who can did it. I was lucky to be able to find them.
When I visited their store, I'm surprised at how cute their studio is.
They can convert a place which basically like a hallway into a really cute floral studio. They have cute small pond, cute flower pots and cute flower arrangement. I love visiting their store.
Dorothy was so helpful and professional from the planning stage until D-day. She really listens to what I want .Together with her talented team, they can fulfill my expectation. Their creations are really beautiful. My guests were impressed by their creativity.
I definitely highly recommend them.
Mints did my wedding flowers and I couldn't have been happier. I went in first to talk about what I wanted and discovered I had no freakin' idea. They, however, did have ideas. Finally, after having looked at their work and being confident I was in good hands, I told them - whatever, here are my colors, here's my budget - knock me out. They did just that!! In a way it was nice to have one less detail to worry about in the hell that is planning your own wedding. My wedding day came and I was on cloud nine (you will be too, trust me!). Then, someone handed me a delightful boquet - something I never would have dreamed up! I am so happy I trusted people who do this for a living and they absolutely delivered!!
I have never been inside this shop, although I have been the recipient of many, many Mint flowers. These babies last f-o-r-e-v-e-r. My last dozen roses lasted for 2 weeks before they even started to show signs of age.
Mint: on behalf of girlfriends everywhere, thank you.
This place is great! Everytime I pop-in, I find new beautiful creations. Recently, I needed a colorful arrangement for a friend with a new baby and the girls at Mints took care of it perfectly! I can't say enough wonderful things about this Alameda jem!
Mints Floral Design Studio is the cutest floral design studio ever! I bought my Venus Flytrap here. Sadly, my Venus died. The soil has since sprouted other green things that have no connection to those gaping mouths of old. I...kill...plants...
I would consider having Mints handle my wedding or other special event, if they are reasonable enough. I support small businesses. I may just go right on a head and book them for something!
The dainty faeries who inhabit run this magic den are flora artistes in the most etherial sense. I've sent three bouquets from them and each one was fab-U-lous.
Well worth the extra green for amazing greens (and yellow and reds and pinks and BLUES!).
Recently I searched Yelp for an Alameda florist so I could order flowers for a friend's birthday. I found Mints and after viewing some of their work on their website I was sold. Ordered an arrangement to be delivered to my friend who lives in Alameda. The person I spoke to on the phone was very nice and very helpful. My friend really liked the flowers. She sent me a cell phone photo of them and they were just what I was hoping they would be. My friend said they lasted a long time and she is glad to know that Mints does more than wedding flowers.
I almost walked past this flower shop on my way to the bookstore next door. The front entrance facing Park St. is a sliver of a hallway. I noticed a green smear out of the corner of my eye and stepped back to check it out.
What a lovely surprise! The nice music...the trickling fountain piece at the rear of the store....all their potted plants and florist flowers...so nice! This shop is so darn cute! Even their business cards are cute! They are very professional and artistic at what they do and it really shows.
Even though the two florists behind the counter had their hands full, they answered my questions and gave me helpful tips. And, they didn't mind me poking around in their pottery stocks to find the perfect vessels for my plants. I ended up with two beautiful potted plants that are now sitting happily on my bookshelf.
Mint is the coolest flower shop in Alameda. You'll find some interesting flowers that you won't find at trader joe's or Safeway. (Obviously).
They have a good selection of potted plants.
I usually go here to get some secret bouquet to surprise the wife.
The staff is helpful. In the last year or so, I've noticed that many soon to be newlyweds are coming here for flower arrangements. -- that's no accident.
It's on Park Street next to Tomatina's. if you're going for a stroll in Alameda, stop on in.
Get your style on!
Every time I'm in here, I think, "Someday, when I win the lottery and have millions of dollars, I'm going to hire the people from Mints to come and deck out my house with beautiful flowers." The quality here is unparallelled. I wish the place were bigger; I would love to just sit in a courtyard decorated by them with a good book and a cup of tea, listening to the fountain. I also appreciate that the staff will help you if you ask, but otherwise they let you wander the shop and don't "hang on" you.
A plant is the best gift you can give and Mints does it perfectly. They have a great selection of healthy plants and many cool pots to choose from. I've never ordered an arrangement from Mints, but I popped in the day before valentines day and the arrangements they were sending out were amazing. The design is contemporary and they use interesting, beautiful flowers. This has got to be the best florist on the island. Creative, thoughtful people must work here.
One word - AMAZING! We hired Mints Workshop for our recent wedding in Monterey. What can I say? They totally lived up to my expectations and then some :). Canna, the owner, was so helpful from start to finish. During our first meeting I made it clear that I wanted my flowers to make the wedding. I didn't want to go out and rent colored linens and napkins and all that other stuff - I just wanted my flowers to stand out. And boy did it! I told Canna to take over the show basically since I did not want to stress too much about it. She totally worked around my color theme and out came a perfect work of art. Check out her website, I believe she's posted some of my wedding flowers on her blog. I would definitely recommend her to anyone getting married!!!
Are Alameda florists inept? Evidence would suggest an answer in the affirmative.
I know of three flower shops in Alameda and I had the displeasure of visiting all of them a few days ago. Mints was my second stop. After checking hours online, I drove to the first shop, which was inexplicably closed. That's odd, businesses usually like taking my money in exchange for goods and services. Oh well, lightning never strikes twice, right? Wrong.
I checked the hours for Mints and drove past the store. Oh good, I thought, the sign says OPEN. So I proceeded to look for parking for the next 10-15 minutes, as Park St. was hopping that day. After I finally found a spot, I approached the shop. There was a tiny handwritten note attached to the OPEN sign. Something about being closed for a "special project". It had a phone number for "urgent matters". Is the need for flowers an urgent matter? I would think not, and apparently neither does the proprietor of Mints because otherwise they would not have left. I never found out because I was able to check the hours for the last florist (John S Towata Flowers) and actually call to make sure they were open.
Suggestions for Alameda florists:
1) If you leave your shop, turn the sign to CLOSED so people do not waste a quarter of an hour looking for parking before they realize you are not open.
2) If you publish business hours, stick to them. That's part of the social contract businesses have with their communities. If you can't keep your hours, publish shorter hours that you CAN commit to. I'd rather have florists open regularly for just one hour a day than never knowing when they will deign to open their doors to the public. One should not have to call in order to verify published hours, nor should they have to call to have a florist open the shop during regular business hours.
P.S. I implied that all Alameda florists were inept, but one in three was actually open. The ineptness of the third is a story for another day, but I'll just say that their service, while the best in Alameda, does not compare to those I've encountered in other cities.
the flowers are beautiful and last a long time, the staff are always cheery but genuine, the store is bright with a distinct zen minimalism. yeah, it costs more, but it's worth it.
what the hell do i know? i buy the flowers and my girlfriend smiles.
I heart MINTS. My fiance's brother was doing a small wedding thing at city hall and I wanted to get them a bouquet and matching boutineirre last minute. I called around a few florist and they gave me a hard time because it was last minute and near prom season and mother's day. Finally I called Mints. They were really nice and accomodating and the flowers were fresh and nicely arranged.

Mints is the cutest shop I've ever been in. It's so cute it should be in Carmel or Mystic or some shit, you know? So cute! They are basically a full service florist so you can stop in and buy a plant or bouquet or you can have them um, flower-fy your wedding. You know, act as the florist. Not sure how to say that so I'll just use flower-fy because it sounds kinda superhero-esque. Anyway, completely reasonable prices for the level of work they are putting out and the shop itself is so charming, it would be a shame to be in Alameda and miss it. Located mere blocks from my parent's house, should you be in town, give me a ring and we'll go get lunch! Ow!
I was going to come write a review about how this is the cutest florist in the world, but everyone else already said that. Oh, whatever: OMG IT IS THE CUTEST FLORIST IN THE WORLD!!#@$!!! My boyfriend doesn't even mind me dragging him in there whenever we're walking down Park Street and has definitely gotten the hint and brought home the occasional wonders. Sweet, sweet, CUTE Mints. I love you.
Fabulous aesthetics and great service. Outstanding, esp. compared to other Alameda options.
There's nothing like getting flowers sent to you at work and this week I received the most incredible arrangement from Mints. The design was so contemporary, colorful and fun and have lasted an entire week. It sounds like the shop is equally as charming and I will definitely be using them the next time I send myself or someone else flowers.
Great little flowershop with great people running it. I love getting people gifts from this place, they never disappoint.
adorable shop - love the long skinny space - so kawaii!
although on the smallish side, the selection is impeccable. the service i received was excellent, as they wrapped the one small gift i bought with lots of flair (and not the office space kind...)
My friend, who just recently moved to Alameda, showed me this hidden treasure - Mints. It's a cute little flower shop located next to Tomatina and I absolutely love everything they do, especially the fish pond. Even though they were very busy, the gal, May (I think), was so patient and answered all my questions about my poor dying plants. And geez I am surprised that someone gave them a one star just because they were closed. I know many premium flower shops require pre-orders, well, I don't know about Mints, but I would assume so as their arrangements are really works of art and I bet they have many event projects!! I checked out their website and they have done so many weddings. I would highly recommend this place!!
I stopped by the shop to see if I can get a plant for my home. This place looks like a little hallway when u first step in, but they sure have lot of interesting looking plants and flowers all over the place (and incenses, teas, candles, greeting cards.. lots of items in a small store) The proprietor was friendly giving me suggestion/advice for my new plant, I will be coming back for more of my floral needs.
this place is precious and even though it's super tiny inside it's packed with beautiful sights and smells. it is on the pricey side, but they have small flowers and potted plants as well if you're on a budget. best part: they will decorate your purchase with a bow, a card, and other goodies if you ask - even if you're buying the tiniest thing in the shop. the service is great.
cutest shop ever. cutest floral shop ever, too! for how teeny their space is they have a delightfully diverse selection of flowers and plants, including things that you've never seen before (eg: juncus effusus spiralis - love!). in addition, the folks who run mints are awesome, knowledgeable and super considerate. i'm really surprised to find a place like this in weirdo alameda, but maybe it's the start of a new trend!
They provide unique floral design and pretty fast delivery service. One of my favorite floral stores in the bay area!
