The food is *really* good at Mings. I generally get the Sesame Tofu, Pinapple Pan Fried Noodles, or the Salt and Pepper Tofu. I'm never disappointed. The food is always fantastic. The service is always fast. The portions are large. The prices are low.
A friend ordered the bubble tea. Apparently this is NOT the place to get bubble tea. Eat the food. Don't order the bubble tea (possibly tea mix, with creamora and frozen tapioca).
Mings is a gem that is underrated. They have some of the best noodle dishes I have ever tasted. All their noodle dishes are good, and they have an amazing selection for their noodles as well. The appetizers are really good, i usually get the salt and pepper squid, and they never dissapoints. Also, their bubble tea is surprisingly good, not amazing but pretty good for Rochester standards, and for the price (3$) you really can't complain.
The only reason thats preventing me from giving this place 5 stars is the inconsistency of the food. Their noodles are amazing BUT i have occasionally ordered the same dish, and they came out completely different and not in a good way. those happen occassionaly but im willing to take the risk because when they do it right they deliver the best tasting food you can get in rochester.
I accidentally found myself here getting lost trying to find another restaurant. But it was 10pm, and after that it gets real difficult for a clueless business traveler to find anywhere to eat. Plus, I know a good down-home asian noodle place when i see it from the outside (never judge a book y'know, but I just had a good feeling about this place).
It's a hole in the wall, but yum, what a delicious hole it is! I got some Ming Special combo, which had scallops, beef, chicken, shrimp, pork, brockley, carrots, cucumber, boc choy (i think) over them fried noodles. It was delish. And at 6 bucks, it was one of the more expensive things on the menu. If i lived here, this would be a favorite place to eat: fresh, good, cheap, authentic, and unpretentious.
Ming's has, in my opinion, the best Chinese food in the city. I have lived in Boston for about a year now and have not had food that compares in quality or price.
Ming's is just a hole in the wall seating at max 12-15 but the small size makes for quality food. I have been here too many times to count (once a week for about a year) and each time was as good as the last.
The best part about this restaurant is bringing friends because they will always agree that it is some of the best Chinese they have had, and you can be certain they will return.
Seems everyone is raving about this place, so I decided to try it out last night. Service was fast, less than 10 min. Staff was welcoming. Food was not amazing though. I got the General Tsos chicken, pork fried rice, egg roll, and sweet and sour chicken. I know, a lot of food but I planned on having leftovers bc chinese leftovers are the best. I told her this was my first time and I was just eating for myself. I paid for the food after it was done...mistake. Turns out I bought $25.00 worth of food and the bag weighed about 10 pounds. Apparently she didnt understand me when I told her it was just for me, otherwise I would think she would tell me I was ordering three times too much rice. I ordered one small pork fried rice. In the bag I received one small container of pork fried rice, one large container, and one small container of white rice. I spent an extra 10 bucks on rice and didnt know it. General Tsos chicken was good, ill give that an 8. Friend rice was fried rice, about a 7. The Sweet and Sour was not good at all, give it a 3. Chicken was soft not crunchy, almost moist. Only had a few pieces because the texture was grossing me out. Egg roll was terrible., another 3. Egg roll is usually one of my favorite parts. Maybe I just got a bad roll, but it was not good. Overall if I were to go back I would try something else, especially not the Sweet and Sour.
Ming's was voted "Best Noodles" in Rochester and it's for a good reason. Ming's is one of the only restaurants I really miss from Rochester (it doesn't help that I haven't found a good Chinese place in Philly yet).
Their noodles are unbelievably delicious. Everytime I went, I would get the udon noodles (that were huge, round and mouth-watering... I am salivating while thinking about the udon noodles right now actually) with fried bean curd. Every time I got this dish, which was often, I was completely satisfied. Plus you get enormous portions for around $5. You really can't beat that! Also, the waitstaff was always friendly and prompt.
We last lived near Ming's II over three years ago, and there are several Chinese restaurants closer to us now, but we still go out of our way to get Ming's. The noodles are great, but honestly we just like the standards - beef w/ broccoli, chicken chow mein, etc., and they do them far better than anyone in town.
The place is very small, so don't expect to show up with a party of more than six and have anywhere to sit. The temperature is kind of unpredictable in there, too - it's best to just take out.
I'd like to put in my vote for Ming's as BEST. NOODLES. EVER. I was first taken there after being dragged to see Dario Argento's "Suspiria" at the Eastman House, and after having the crap scared outta me, I was really hungry. Ming's is a tiny place with a handful of tables, and an open kitchen right there where you can watch them cook your food. I probably ate the vegetarian noodle bowl with spinach noodles a hundred times while I went to school in Rochester. It was about 5 bucks and at least two meal's worth of food. So fresh tasting - you just pick the style of noodles you want and they magically appear in a matter of minutes. They also make delicious vegetable dumplings. I can picture the scene out their window in every season of the year. They even delivered me noodles when I lived in gnarly on-campus apartments. Gosh I miss this place.
