I have been hearing about Edison and the Oaktree road section for the longest time. When I come to visit my parents, I always try to find interesting and new places to go with them.. But, going for Indian Food is a tough sell.. I figured Ming would be a nice introduction.. Chinese Food with a little Indian Influence.. There is always the safety net of Thai thrown in there..
We went for lunch and it was pretty good.. I felt a lot of the food was over sweet, drowned in sauce, and suffered from a common fusion problem.. Often times fusion has no soul, no history.. Success has many fathers, but failure is a bastard.. This food was a bastard.. Indian staff, Indian customers, Indian Decor, but Chinese-esque food.. Like Americanized Chinese Food, this was just Indianized Chinese Food.. And whats worse, I believe it was Muslim chinese Food because there was no pork or beer.. Sorry Chicken is no substitute for Pork..
Chicken egg rolls...
Eh, whatever...
Good Dish with Indian Influence, the fried Cauliflower.. This was early on in the meal so I hadnt had my fill of sweet sauce yet..
Fried Fish App: This dish was fantastic.. Perfectly fried fish.. Sauce was less sweet then the others.. Had a nice spice to it.. Favorite thing of the meal..
Mao Pa Tofu:
First time had this dish where the sauce was brown.. I was also disappointed because many reviews I have read called this place Sichuan and Hunan.. So I figured this dish would be great.. The tofu was diced and small, the sauce was really thick and gravy like and brown as I mentioned.. It was ok but, overly sweet, and not firey at all...
Had my choice of noodles with vegetable or chicken again.. The noodles were ok, pretty forgetable..
So this place is Muslim, I am assuming. The lamb has to be good.. I make it a point to go to as many Muslim restaurants in CHina as I can.. I stop at every muslim street vendor while I am there.. I love the way they cook lamb.. Well this is not the case here.. I asked the waiter what his favorte lamb dish was.. The Sizzling Lamb was his immediate answer.. I was psyched. The dish was average to bad at best.. The lamb was mushy, the sauce completely disguised any charachter this poor piece of meat might have had.. It could have been setian for all I know.. It was a shame.. Served in some type of sweet and sour sauce.. Yikes..
Best thing I had there was a Mango Lassi which was not called a Lassi but, a Mango Shake.. Lassi would have been too INdian and this place was errr Chinese..
The good news is, I finally made it to the Oaktree Road Section.. I will be coming back to try some of the other places, any suggestion would be appreciated.. I dont want too harsh. My parents liked there food and the little one at her chicken pan fried dumplings.. Lunch was 100 bucks, which seemed pretty expensive.. But the restaurant is very pretty, we sat at a table with a lazy susanne and it was comfortable..

I was in Edison 2 weeks ago on a saturday and I went there had lunch. This place is definitely top-notch in terms of food quality and taste. Probably one of the best Indo-Chinese food in North America. Service is iffy (we were there on a day where there was not much by the way of crowd) and you have to do the Indian style of waving your hands to get attention. If they can fix the service issues they will do much better. Place is a very safe bet for vegetarians.

To say I hate this place is an understatement. I just don't get why anyone likes this place. The whole concept of Indo-Chinese is wasted on me. I would never return here.
I have a more complete review on my blog.

Just a note that I'm adding this to my "must visit" list based on my friend Aatmiya Yogini's (http://vr_in_da.43people.com/) recommendation.

Take the NJ Transit and go eat at Ming in Edison!
Ming serves fiery, Szechuan and Hunan cuisine the way it is enjoyed in India or Pakistan. There are any number of great dishes - from Chilli chicken to Chicken Manchurian, Spicy soups, all at a great value. Our group of five friends dined for $170 and we stuffed ourselves.
I've introduced a few of my Asian American friends to Ming and they've all been impressed with the interpretation of chinese cuisine.
Be mindful of the fact that there are big crowds waiting every single night. So, even if you have reservations, it might take you a wait of 45 minutes before you are eventually seated at your table. There is a certain nonchalance with which the protest of "but I have a reservation", is ignored. It is but to be expected, after all you are now on "Indian Standard Time".

Indo-chinese food rocks. Ming has mastered it. If you don't know what Indo-Chinese is, then you must go find out.

Ming's is owned and run by the Mehtanis who are also known for Moghul Restaurant in Edison and Morris Town.
Ming serves Szechuan and Hunan cuisine made for the taste of people who enjoy Indian food.
As some other reviewers have mentioned here, there is always a wait. The management only takes reservations before 8 PM and after that it's on first-come first-serve. Even if one has a reservation, one should be prepared to wait atleast 10 mins before being seated. Several requests to the management to accept reservation beyond 8 PM have been brushed off... perhaps the management realizes that they have a winner at hand and enjoy making people wait 45 mins to 2 hours to get a table.
The food is great, but as you probably figured, the wait a big negative in my opinion.
Try their sweet corn soups, drums of heaven (chicken drumsticks) and bamboo rice. Most chicken and seafood dishes are well made. Serving sizes are adequate.

I guess you can call it Indian Fusion or something but basically it's an Indian interpretation of Chinese food. This style of cuisine is very popular in India.
In any case, this restaurant does a great job of making dishes in the same style as you'd find in India. They're very tasty and more spicy than traditional chinese food. Try the lotus appetizer thing, definitely something you've never had before. The papaya salad was good. The fish dishes were excellent too with lots of flavor, spice and tender fish. The vegetarian dishes were well done too.
The last time I went, they still didn't have a liquor license so it was BYOB. No corkage fees. Overall, an excellent place if you like Indian or Indian style food. It's definitely more Indian than Chinese.
the best IndoChinese place I've ever been to...even better than the Moghul next door..def would recommend it!

UPDATE: I'm changing my rating to 1 star. A few months ago, we had friends visiting and decided to go there for dinner. My husband went to check how long the wait was and after being told it would be 1hr, but we could order takeout if we wanted. So we go home, call and start placing an order and are put on hold. Then he takes our # and tells him that he will call him back in a few mins. A few mins pass and no call, so I call back and start placing the order again and they tell me that they're too busy to fill the order. So we then have to argue with them about how we were just at the restaurant and were told we could call in an order for pickup after which they allowed us to order. They acted like we were doing them a favor by ordering their food. Never again will I eat there again. The whole Moghul family of restaurants is too cocky and has lost sight of what of the most important part of the restaurant business - serving their customers. I was appalled!
