As a resident of Wethersfield for the last year and a half, I have been on a quest to find my "go to" Chinese restaurant. I believe I have found that restaurant in Ming Dynasty. The chicken Lo Mein, which I order about once a week, is on par with the best I've ever had.
The lack of delivery is what's keeping me from giving this place 5 stars. Takeout is quick however with about a 15 minute average wait time. I actually called once and they asked me when I wanted to pick up the food. I told them I could be there in 5 minutes and they said ok. My order was actually ready when I arrived, and, needless to say, it was screaming hot.
If you choose to dine-in, prepare for a slightly odd experience. The tacky Chinese decor tries to set an all too formal backdrop. The wait staff is dressed to the nines and are a bit too attentive. (Like you take a sip from your water glass, and out of the corner of your eye you see your waiter with the pitcher of ice water in hand waiting to top you off.) Eat there a couple times and you become used to it.
The food is reasonably priced, on par with any Chinese restaurant, and i f you dine-in there's a pre-fixed menu with lots of combinations to choose from. -

Dined on a Thursday evening when I was in the area for work. I ordered the kung pao chicken "extra spicy." (It was listed as a spicy dish.) What I got was a below average dish containing exactly one red pepper that wasn't spicy at all. It was quite bland and looked like the other mediocre kung pao dishes I've had over the years. The fried rice was decent and my colleagues said their own entrees were adequate to tasty. They also enjoyed the tea.
In addition, the refills on soda and water were non-existent. -

Never had a bad meal here.
This is solid, good Chinese food. Good quality and flavorful. Nothing that just screams out "wow", but nothing gross either. The waitstaff is always very pleasant and friendly.
I usually get a meal that comes with choice of soup, an appetizer plate with fried shrimp, chicken finger and egg roll, and ice cream. Cashew Shrimp and Chicken with Garlic Sauce are both good.
My favorite part is the double pen they give you to sign the credit card receipt. Two pens elastic banded together so that you can write with either the top or the bottom, gotta love it! -

Living out of state and missing Ming Dynasty...
They have really good Chinese food. That's all you need to know. Good take-out, but it's also a nice place to dine-in. You get a pot of tea and some of those fried noodle things with sweet and spicy dipping sauce. Service is fast and the food is fresh and served piping hot. I particularly like their lo mein--it has an awesome smokey flavor that no other Chinese place can match. -

Back in the 80s and 90s when I lived in Wethersfield, Ming Dynasty was THE ethnic restaurant. Seriously, I don't think we had Mexican, Japanese, Thai, or any other of the now-standard cuisines available. So, I grew up thinking that Ming Dynasty made good Chinese food because it was all I knew. I haven't eaten there in years, but I was relieved to see that, indeed, Ming Dynasty appears to be quality.
Reading other reviews also made me remember the awesome little fried noodles you get at the start of your meal. I live in California now, and I've been to literally dozens of Chinese restaurants here, and I've yet to be served fried noodles with my meal. What gives? -

Ming Dynasty is a steady constant for me in the world of Chinese food take-up.
Super convenient, with a location right off 91, I very often call in for a take-out order. They are open late, have a great-priced menu, and super friendly staff.
I always enjoy Crab Rangoons, Beef Teriyaki, Vegetable Friend Rice, among others. -

Get the stay at home atmosphere dining out. Ming Dynasty provides a truly odd decor with tacky window fixtures and wall papering. Minutes from I-91, exit 24 in Rocky Hill, CT. Ming Dynasty offers average quality food and not much else.
The menu is some what limited for lunch specials, I find myself scanning through a couple of times. You need to rule out getting any seafood, I have never gotten a seafood dish where the shrimp, scallops or fish weren't going bad or had already gone bad. This doesn't make you very popular in the break room.
The wait staff is agreeable, friendly, curious but a little pushy and clearly clamoring for tips. Prices are a little higher than the other low end Chinese places in the area like China Star and East Meets west but at higher lunch and dinner prices too. None of these places in this area really stand out, the egg rolls are made with what I like to call skunk cabbage and like the seafood are pretty terrible to smell. The building, along with its tacky decor always smells like smoke even though it is a smoke free facility, I am not really sure what the deal is with that. Would recommend trying for lunch in lieu of New China Star and East Meets West if you are looking for Chinese food for lunch in the Rocky Hill or Wethersfield area. I would get take out. -

This is the kind of place that takes me back to being a kid and going out for Chinese food on special occasions.
Nowadays, it seems Chinese food is limited to delivery/take-out places or buffets. This is one of the few remaining actual sit-down Chinese-American restaurants.
It's good. The food is tasty and reasonably priced. You get tea with your meal. Sure, it's not going to be real authentic Chinese food, but I think people now realize that most so-called Chinese food is, in fact, American.
It's a decent, enjoyable meal and you get your money's worth. It's nice to be able to sit down with some tea and order off a menu. -

Loved it. It was a blast from the past and the food was good. Shrimp with garlic sauce very flavorful. The ribs were lean. Tasty noodles.

(This review is only based upon the lunch menu as I have never eaten dinner here.)
If you come to Ming's for the first time, try and come in for the lunch specials they have. Besides being some of the best Chinese food I have ever had, it was also some of the cheapest I have ever had. For less than $7 here is what you get:
A plate of fried noodles to munch on while you wait for your meal
A pot of tea
An order of soup
An entree with a side of rice
This meal will fill you up and not drain your wallet. An awesome place to eat. -

Talk about uneven!
I don't love chinese food, but the other half does so we decided to try Ming Dynasty. Upon being seated you are served fried noodles with spicy mustard and duck sauce to dip them in. We looked over the menu and had decided upon the usual suspects. General Tso's and Chicken & Broccoli. This may have been the best chicken & broccoli that I've ever had. I sampled the general tso's and while I'm not a huge fan, it was quite good. The waitstaff was attentive for a busy Friday night.
About a month later, we decided to give Ming another go. I noticed a basil chicken dish on the specials menu and went for that and he went for sesame beef. We had quite a language barrier / issue going on with the server that night. Iced tea needed the manager to come out and double check what we were getting, crab rangoon came out instead of spring rolls, etc. It was bad. Out comes our dinner. What I received was less than edible. I do not know where the basil was on this dish, nor can I confirm that I had chicken. Maybe I was just served the tendons from the chicken, but whatever it was it was chewy and not chicken-like. Andrew Zimern would gag upon trying whatever was on my plate. Next for the sesame chicken. Not really sure what made it sesame. There were no sesame seeds, it was charred beef with a sticky, slimy sauce that had the consistency of molasses. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't what the description sad it was. We simply stated we filled up on our appetizers and took our "dinners" to go. We threw our food in the garbage and never looked back.
A place that can be that on or that off just isn't for me. The two stars is for the time that it was actually good. -

I'm sorry Erika S. had a bad experience here. I have to agree with Joshua G. I've been visiting Ming Dynasty since the early 1990s and I must say it is possibly the best Chinese food I have ever had. The same family that owned it 20 years ago is the same family that owns and operates it today, and they are always there! I make it a point to go here when I'm in the Hartford area and have a hunger for Chinese food.

Went to this place because I was craving Chinese and I'm glad I went. I ordered the Sa-Cha Pork from the complete dinner menu and I was very pleased with the entire meal. The egg rolls were large and tasty, especially with the orange sauce. I've never had a "golden finger" before, but it was described as a McDonald's chicken nugget but longer and sure enough it tasted just like a chicken nugget, which I like. The hot and sour soup could have been spicier, but it wasn't bad. This was my first taste of the Sa-Cha Pork and I'm definitely a fan. Pork, baby corn things, water chestnuts, broccoli, onion, peppers and a very tasty sauce all combined with pork fried rice was the right combination for me. Last but not least the complete dinner came with ice cream. How can you pass on ice cream?
Bottom Line: Tasty, economical and filling. I would go back without hesitation. -

Hands down my favorite chinese restaurant. I work in Rocky Hill and often get one of their lunch specials, which come with either an egg roll or choice of soup, fried noodles and a fortune cookie. Really affordable. Everything is fresh and tasty. The chicken isn't the sketchy slime chicken that you get at most chinese places, it's legit, well-cooked chicken. Chicken and mixed veg, chicken and broc, shrimp and broc, buddha's delight--all yummy.

Our Chinese takeout spot, even though it is 10 minutes farther away than about 20 other places. Excellent dumplings and lo mein.

I've been eating here for the past 20 years, and even after moving to Glastonbury, we still come here. The food is consistently good, though if you're looking for wildly different or "nouveau" Chinese, this isn't the place. Everything is freshly made, and they accommodate my daughter's quirky requests with a smile. They catered a New Years party for us a few years ago, and everyone loved it, even our picky New York friends. The owners are very nice, and they really go out of their way to please. Ming is good quality, tasty and dependable.
