Joel is the BEST trainer that a girl can ask for. He puts together an individualized program for every one of his clients and gets you to the best shape that you can imagine.
Extra KUDOS for him putting up with my unmotivated self. I've been working out with him for over 2 years now and he's kept me active in my sedatory, wine-drinking, web surfing lifestyle.
If you're reading this, you NEED to see Joel. Yes YOU!

Joel is rare among personal trainers in that he combines in-depth knowledge with a cool personality - you can't help but like the guy. I hope this doesn't offend the personal training community of SF - I'm not saying you're all jerks, just a lot of you. That came out wrong. Oh, you know what I mean.
I just finished Joel's 'Running Innovations' program. Two 30 min sessions per week for four weeks to improve running performance and minimize injuries. Joel provides gait analysis, postural correction, and a range of exercises tailored to compliment your running training, with a focus on core stability. I trained for my first triathlon last year and in so doing have tried a variety of books, trainers and methods but none have come close to the benefits I found in Joel's personalized sessions. He uses some innovative exercises that employ the movements you use in running, which just plain makes sense. Ultimately it comes down to performance, and in a short period I've improved my times, and more importantly feel a new sense of control and balance when running. I'm hooked. -

First, let me state my bias: I am a current client and it is impossible to be Joel's client without becoming friends with the guy. From the first meeting, he charms you with his dark magic... I mean, charisma and you just keep coming back.
Personal trainers are not cheap; a good trainer is the one that makes it worth your money each and every time. The one who is genuinely excited to see you, the one that listens to your needs and adjusts the workouts accordingly, the one who knows when to push you and when to back off. Joel is all that and then some. Over the years, I have worked with 4 personal trainers and Joel is the absolutely the best.
Joel is very knowledgeable in so many areas of health and fitness, you will be amazed. He has worked with me on my running, we talked about nutrition, and he helped me with tight muscles and knees that make funny clicking noises when I do squats (I just sound like I am 100 years old, don't I?). He's very particular about his training methods and enjoys explaining the science behind them. After working with Joel, I became much more critical of exercise routines from health magazines and videos, as I now see much better which moves benefit your body or just place unnecessary strain on your ligaments.
Finally, one of the most important things: the guy is fun and has a wicked sense of humor. I come over to my appointments after long days in the office and I am not exactly a ray of sunshine by the time I get to the gym. Joel has a way to engage people in conversation, joke around a bit and create a sense of positive, productive energy that makes every workout worth it. -

Joel, the Master Trainer with Mind and the Machine, is an incredibly knowledgeable individual. He has a true passion for his work and appears to have a voracious appetite for learning. From my work with him and my observation of him with other clients, he has a very diverse approach to helping people meet their health and fitness needs. The facility he trains in, while small, has everything that one could need and more, and is way more private than a standard gym.
