Minas is an artist... and genius. Why else would he have over 93% 5-star ratings? He will fix any problem your soles (soul?) might have and restore them with even more life than before.
To add to it - not only is his work amazing, he is quick and a sweetheart to boot (har har har). I have been in and out of his store quite a bit over the last 2 months and he has correctly guessed where my family is from ('We are neighbors!') and told me about his family in Crete.
I will always bring my shoes here for repair... it feels great to have shiny, perfect shoes while supporting a long-time local merchant. 5 stars!
I finally found my dream shoe repair man. Mr. Minas literally had me at "do you play soccer?" when he took the first glance at several pairs of scuffed up boots and pumps I laid on the counter.
I trust him to stretch any pair of tall boots to fit perfectly too. He and his staff are all very nice and they treat your shoes how you want them to be treated, with loving care, attention and respect.
Cant tell you how many pairs of Shoes I have brought to Minas. Its over 15 pairs and every time, my shoes come back better than ever. Absolutely, with no equivocation, the BEST cobbler in New York City. Shoe repair is a dying art, but Minas takes care of everything. Resoles, new heels, stretching, conditioning, you name it, he can take care of it. His turn around is quick and the prices very reasonable. You will not be disappointed making the trek down to wall street as the craftsmanship speaks for itself. Wouldn't waste time taking quality shoes anywhere but here.
You know it means something when he can make women's Louboutins have red bottoms again after running through the city. Go to Minas, you''l be happy you did.
I wanted to love Minas, but ultimately felt the services really failed me, despite how much I liked Minas and his staff; he does seem to be a real sweetheart. Their pricing is very reasonable, too.
I dropped off a few pairs of shoes and some bags, and went over the repairs to be done with 2 different people (Mr. Minas and a younger employee). I needed half-soles on most of the shoes and also needed a pair of boots to be stretched. One pair of shoes had dark streaks (they are beige) and Minas said they'd try to remove them.
I would have given a good review if even most of the work had been performed adequately, but it just wasn't. As bad, I was hustled out of the shop -- it's always busy and the person who brought me my things seemed incredibly distracted -- only to see once I returned home that one of the bags was left out of my prepacked order (I'd paid when I dropped off my items, and I don't live anywhere close by). I had to go back for the bag, and was frustrated as it was difficult to call just to determine whether they'd found it. The dark marks were not touched on my beige shoes, and worse, a cognac-colored pair got black marks on the toe and are now wholly faded in color across the vamp. These were pristine, and I only asked for the addition of rubber soles.
It's a shame as I thought this would be my go-to shoe repair store, but what I got back was really substandard. I'm incredibly disappointed that an expensive and beloved pair of shoes are visibly worse for the wear because of Minas.
I LOVE this shoe repair shop! It's a hike for me, but well worth it. Minas is the best cobbler I've ever met. He fixed 2 pairs of heels for me and they're looking better than ever. While he charged me $30 a piece, I know it's well worth the price because the shoes will last a lot longer now.
Cheaper repair shops don't save you money, I've learned, because you just end up having to get your shoes repaired more often because the work is often sloppy. At Minas, you pay for quality work that ultimately pays for itself because you get a lot more wear out of your repaired shoes.
On a side note, Minas told me he has people from other countries who ship him their shoes for repair-- that is how trusted and exceptional this man's work is!
This place does a great job at a great price with quick turnaround. They're good with everything from motorcycle boots to fancy Wall St footwear.
Stopped by here because I'd worn down one of my favourite booties and desperately needed the heel fixed. The owner was incredibly kind and had me in and out of there in 10 minutes! The quality of their work aside, their prices are outstanding. Not only that, though, they did a fantastic job! It really made my day... I wish I had Minas within a block of my flat at ALL times! I can't believe I didn't find them when I was living in FiDi. Flawless, can't recommend them enough.
It is a sign of the times that a successful shoe repair store would hold its own in the vicinity of Tumi, Thomas Pink and La Maison Du Chocolat on Wall Street. But then, unless you are a self-righteous i-banker drawing manna from the masses, you are looking to have your shoes repaired rather than replaced. And Minas is arguably the best place to get that done.
Minas is a friendly man who has the same approach to every pair--he arches his eyebrows, inspects the shoes with a loving gaze and proclaims that, notwithstanding the scuff marks or worn out soles, the shoes are repairable and will be almost 'good as new' once he is done with them. He delivers on his promises to a large extent, and would even have your shoes delivered to you if you live or work in the neighborhood. But be reasonable in your expectations and remember that 'Minas Shoe = No Messiah'. On that anagrammatic note, I wish you luck in getting your penny loafers, hightops, moccasins, cleats and clogs treated by Minas and his friendly crew.
I have a pair of tan suede heels that I'd worn twice. I ruined them one night when I got drunk and stumbled home. They were scuffed so atrociously that I wanted to cry when I saw them the next morning. Thick black lines ran across the entire side of one shoe and smaller lines on just about every other side of each shoe.
I was expecting miracles after reading the reviews, so I couldn't give Minas 5 stars. I was really hoping I'd be able to, but I just can't. Five stars would have been granted if they had made my shoes look exactly the same as they did before I beat them up, and/or if they were ready on time. They told me the shoes would be ready on a certain day the following week, and when I went to pick them up (the day after they were supposed to be ready) the shoes were still not worked on.
However, they did return my precious babies to a wearable state which I think is well worth the wait and the $30. The scuffs are gone, but up close the suede looks a little worn. Whatever...I'm still very happy that my new shoes can live a longer life than two wearings!
I am in love. I think I found my go-to cobbler and therapist, both in the same place.
I brought my boots in for their heels to be fixed and polished. They aren't high heels, but it was all frictioned off from walking in the NYC streets.
When I showed the old man who runs the place the boots, he said, "These are your favorite boots, right? I know, I know. Come back tomorrow, I will bring your boots back to life." He also refused to take a deposit when I asked.
I got my boots back today, and they seriously look as good as new. NO signs of wear-off on my heels, they look beautiful, I'm so happy. For $20! Next day! I paid much less for a local cobbler in Astoria, but he took about 3 days and the job was no where near as good, and he actually insisted one time that I had already come back to pick up my boots when I hadn't--he found them afterwards, but I was not pleased. I have refrained from writing a bad review for that place, but you definitely get what you pay for. These boots were expensive and I needed to make sure it was a good place--and thank you Yelp, for letting me know of this place.
He makes me feel all happy and warm and fuzzy inside.
They are true cobbler artists. Took a pair of brown captoes in for a resole and new heels and got them back--the same day--looking factory fresh. In fact, they looked even better than new.
The folks at Minas are also very, very cool. Next to my tailor, who coincidentally is nearby, they get a big chunk of my love.
They're worth the trip. And if you're shoes are still new, thrash on them for a bit and go straight to Minas. Seriously.
Took my favorite pair of adidas in because the heel squeaked every step I took. The man behind the counter took one look at them and told me that glue would fix it up right. I also asked for new insoles since the ones in there weren't providing any comfort. This was Friday afternoon.
Came back on Monday afternoon, all fixed with glue. No more getting confused with a mouse, and new insoles...$15. Can't beat that!
Best shoe repair in the city. Run by a very nice older fellow who will walk you through options, and suggest what he thinks will work best. I've brought in a variety of shoes and been very happy with the results. Repairs have run from resoles, broken strap, extending strap, detached heel, entire shoe separating from sole/platform, and more. Needless to say, I do a lot of walking in shoes that aren't meant for extended outings on NY city streets. Generally, repairs are available for pickup the next day, though I had a shoe emergency once and he fixed it right there for me. Great service, excellent quality work, and fair prices. About $10 for simple stuff. $30 to resole my wedge espadrilles with a great looking non-skid thin rubber material that totally matched the color of the wedge. They look better than the original sole. And they're nice. Highly recommended.
They have another location on Exchange Place called Omega.
My five year old granddaughter loves to wear her good shoes to school. The problem is when she goes to the park with them they get so beat up. When I saw them last I was sure they would be garbage but I took them to Mr. Minas and he was a true miracle worker, almost like new. He always is willing to try to repair or recondition those shoes or boots you just love and he is such a sweet angle on top of it.

I agree with everyone! Best shoe repair, reasonable prices, and they do a great shine to boot! I have even brought a cheap pair of shoes that I adored there and they made them better than new! And the people inside are flipping fantastic.
Hands down the best shoe repair shop in the city. I think an important test for a shoe repair shop is the quality of footwear that is brought in. Right away I could see Ferragamo's, Jimmy Choo's, Minolo Blahnik's, and Prada's being repaired. The guy in the back was taking a vintage pair of boots that belonged to a customer's late mother and changed the interior lining, reconditioned the leather and put a sole at the bottom. The boots looked brand new. Amazing. These guys can recondition your leather or suede loafers if they happen to get damaged in the rain and bring them back to life. This ain't yo daddy's quick shoe shine spot at the corner. If you've got quality footwear, protect it right with Minas.
My last shoe repair was great but I wanted one that was closer to where I was currently located. I brought in my beloved vintage black boots I got off Ebay for $20 that I have worn so much they were becoming unwearable and looked like they've literally been through hell and back with me. The very gentle and kind Mina said "Oh my, these boots need a lot of work, I can do it though, very nice boots--do you like your boots like this?!" *points to the scuffs on the toe* No of course I do not thats why I brought them to you! And with that and $40 later, they would be done within the next day, literally good as new. I kid you not, I even had a bad dream about picking up my boots with some ugly rubber soles that didnt match the shoe. Thank god, when I picked them up they looked beautiful, the exterior was great, and I still wonder how they did the bottom because they must have had to take out all the nails and redo everything. Whatever they did, I am coming back because he worked his magic!
yesssss!! all of these reviewers have been right on, and i thank all of you for turning me on to minas'. i bought a pair of boots on sale from http://amazon.com, what an impulse buy. of course they didn't fit- they were way too wide in the calf fit like crazy galoshes. i loved the way they were constructed though, and having saved so much money on the original purchase i decided to see whether i could find a shoe repair place that could take them in for me. Minas said no problem and measured my legs. a week later i made the trek back down to wall street and picked them up. my boots had been transformed into the perfect fit i've been looking for my whole life. it was reasonably priced i thought, and minas was so nice: "take care of these babies", he said to me as i walked out grinning. GO HERE. you will not be disappointed with his miracles.
