This place is my sushi heaven on earth. It is the best sushi all you can eat buffet that I have seen so far. Although they have several locations, I find this location the best.
It is easy to find if you are travelling from Brooklyn or Staten Island, because it is right off the Long Island Expressway (since I hardly venture to LI, I found it pretty easily). It is located in a strip mall that has a TJ Maxx, so you can go shopping if you have to wait for someone. The place itself is pretty big and you get comfortable tables with lots of room. They have their buffet set up where you have the sushi, rolls and sashimi on one side. At this location I never had the problem that there was a waiting period for any of the rolls or sushi. They always fill the plates when they are empty. I find that a problem at Todai (the old Minado in the city). The fish is pretty decent and they do not bury it with rice.
The other side of the buffet is the hot food. They have a huge selection of Japanese food including tempura, beef negamaki, cooked fish and the Japanese pancakes, which the staff make for you per special request. They also have four different kinds of soups to choose. They have so many different hot dishes, that it is hard to even remember them all. Right across from that they have a whole section of cold salads including seaweed salad and jellyfish salad.
Connecting the hot food and the Sushi is the raw clams, oysters and crab legs which is often plentiful.
My favorite part is the green tea ice cream. While in the City at Todai someone has to serve you the ice cream, here it is self service, so you can put as much as you want. For those of you who like green tea ice cream, you know what I mean. They also have fruit and little pastries.
The place is a bit pricey ($30) but it is really worth it. So if you can handle eating A LOT and really enjoy trying everything, then it is so worth the money. Just make sure you come with an empty stomach and loose pants.

Food: The food is disgustingly sweet over here. Everything from the sushi rice, sauces for sushi (spicy mayo sauce), all the sauces on the hot food (think salmon terriyaki), and salads (especially hijiki and seaweed). It is a shame because dishes like hijiki originally have a subtle sweetness to it, no need to heave on the sugar.
No sashimi (unless you count the butt ends of fish that traditional restaurants would throw out) offerings, all offered in sushi/rolls/hand rolls. The sushi are not the best/freshest fish. Kinda expected from a buffet where quantity trumps quality.
The shrimp tempura offered are tiny shrimps, not the big tempura that we are use too. Have to dig for sweet potato tempura too, don't get confused with carrot tempura. Dumplings are too oily.
The shining point here is the udon. I really love it, noodles are not soggy, right amount of chewiness, and the soup is extremely flavorful (probably alot of MSG, but I'll take it). You can customize it with crunchy flakes, scallions, shrimp, tempura cakes.
Fruits are not that great here (honeydew and cantaloupes are tasteless, old grapes, and tasteless watermelons with seeds) besides the Sunkist oranges, those never taste bad do they?
Drink: Soda, tea, sake
Service: The wait staff here are generally cordial, clear plates extremely fast, and refill drinks ASAP. Only reason why I gave it 2 stars.
Crowd/Ambiance: Long islanders and city people alike. Large space so large groups can congregate comfortably and not annoy other patrons. The chairs are a little clumsy so getting in and out can be annoying for heavier set people. The food are layout in a large, clean area.
I'm not completely sold on this place. I think its a bit cheaper than Ichi Umi, but its the city vs. the island.
My issue here is the sushi rice, its almost sweet, and there is rice in just about every roll. Of course, its buffet sushi, so fillers can be expected, but its a shame, because when I took the tuna off the sashimi, it was pretty decent. (But theres that evil surcharge for ditching the rice)
Hot foods are good, the only things I got twice were BBQ Pork, Ponzu Chicken and Veggie Fried Rice. The udon station was open this time, but the surimi in my soup was tasteless.
Dessert cakes are typical, small and square, cream puffs are good. The ice cream was alright, but I feel like the green tea lacked taste.
It's worth return visits, but I feel like they could improve on a few things.
Come to this place only if you love sushi and can eat tons of it without feeling queasy from all that raw fish. The hot food is pretty americanized and isn't as good as the sushi (the beef teryiaki and the corn crab cakes are delicious, however!). I do also appreciate the udon noodle soup section even though the soup is on the sweet side. There is also a large salad and cold food table. I've never tried anything from there (I was already so pre-occupied from the sushi!), but it all looks very appealing and appetizing.
Dessert...great for a buffet place! The cakes are really good, especially the raspberry cake. They don't taste bought even though they probably are. The green tea soft serve is TO DIE FOR. Seriously the best green tea ice cream I've ever had.
Service is probably the best among the buffets I've been to. The servers actually speak good english and are really friendly. Additionally, the restaurant itself looks very clean and nicely decorated. The food sections are also kept really neat as well.
The price is pretty high for dinner at around $30 per person. That is why I love coming here with my friends for lunch because it's about half the price and you get pretty much the same thing as dinner. There also aren't any ridiculous additional fees which I appreciate.
Overall, I highly recommend this place to sushi/japanese food lovers. And definitely try to come here for lunch over dinner because it is so much more worth it!
I really used to like this place, but I soon realized I was overpaying and for what I was eating. Don't get me wrong - the selection is HUGE! The fish is fresh, the desserts are mini and tasty, and it gets really crowded. But I'd rather spend the same amount at a service restaurant where I can customize my order.
Not bad for a Japanese buffet.
I LOVE THIS PLACE. I'M AN AVOWED ADDICT.
I hate spending tons of money at sit-down sushi restaurants to have underwhelming portions. This place serves very good sushi in even better quantities. You can see all the employees work and the preparation area is extremely clean. And your sushi-averse friends will love the salads and hot entrees on the left side of the buffet.
While its pricier, wait until dinnertime if you're a sashimi fan. You'll get your money's worth after your first plate.
While the buffet is self-serve, the service is very attentive refilling drinks and clearing plates.
Only drawback is that reservations aren't accepted and the wait can be long--especially if a party is occupying the second dining room.

MJ's Star : 3.5
Price : Lunch buffet Mon-Fri $16, Sat-Sun $20, Dinner buffet Mon-Fri $28, Sat-Sun $30 (excluding tip & tax)
I had some initial doubts about a 'buffet style' sushi restaurant, but Minado won me over with my first visit. The food was amazingly fresh -- I suppose being a restaurant with a focus on raw fish, they'd have to maintain some vigilance. Also, we noticed that a good number of the patrons that night were, well, Japanese -- which lent some credibility to the place.
The buffet boasted a stunning array of Japanese appetizers, salads, Hibachi-grilled steak, shrimp & chicken ... and of course, the sushi. An endless stream of all you can eat sushi.
Personal highlights for me were the beef teriyaki appetizer; shrimp dumplings; cold bok choy & shitaki mushroom salad and the scrumptious tuna and eel rolls.
Strategy: by all means sample the appetizers, but small portions. Forego the drinks, water will suffice. Pace yourself!
The price -- for dinner, at least -- was a little offputting at $29 per person, but in retrospect we definitely ate that much (and probably more) of sushi alone. Definitely worth a return visit on a special occasion.
*LUNCH TIME REVIEW*
I love Minado. For a buffet it's really good. The hot food is very appetizing and the sushi and rolls selection is really extensive. Buffets can get really sickening but since this is Japanese and not Chinese, it leaves you wanting for more. The dessert pastries are ok, but the green tea cake is sooooo good. It's a good thing that they opened the dinner ice cream vendor for lunch time because the green tea ice cream is really good too!
It's cool too because they have a udon and hibachi bar. I don't think I can ever get sick of coming here.
THANK YOU MINADO FOR FINALLY ALLOWING ME TO EXPERIENCE SOME GOOD BUFFET FOOD! ^_^
*EAT HERE...EAT HERE...EAT HERE...EAT HERE...EAT HERE*
Seriously. You should try this place.

If you like buffets this is the place for you.
Feast on the many rolls, oh so many rolls...and theres even hot food to boot.
Can be pricey if you come at dinner, lunch might be a better bet and your not really missing out on much selection either.
Stop reading, just go.

This is the best restaurant of this kind I have been to. I took my son and my sister here a couple of days ago and they both loved it. The selection is huge, there is tons of sushi as well as all sorts of salads and hot stuff like ribs and fried rice. My sister doesn't eat sushi, but she ate plenty. It's a bit pricier than other buffets I've been to(Todai), but it's worth it.

As far as buffets go, these guys got everything going for them. What makes buffets a horrible dining experience for most people is the quality of the food: you eat sub par food till you pop and then hate yourself afterward.
But Minado does what other buffets don't -- they serve fresh, tastey food. For $12 during lunch, I tried sushi rolls that I could only dream of at other places (because I was unwilling to pay the prices!) The sushi bar is huge, and they have everything from veggie to eel rolls. Not only that, there are plenty of other Japanese dishes -- teriyaki, noodles, etc.
I think the lunch price is too expensive. I would only recommend going here for lunch.
Enjoy!!!

Even though its all you can eat I just attack the salmon sashimi plate and the freshly made crepes that they make in front of your face when you stand in front of their face. ;] I know its real crepe because its the same style and texture that my french teacher once made for me. Nowadays people just put nasty things in the crepe or the crepe is crunchy; not the real deal.
The thing with most all you can eat sushi, the quality is oh so very poor, for example; todai. You get for what you paid for and I think for dinner can be about $25-$30 per person.
This is my favorite AYCE sushi place. Can be alittle bit pricey though, the total bill usually comes out to about $30 per person, and more if you order sake. I don't know about their lunch fare, but their dinner is totally worth the money. They have a huge selection of sushi, special rolls, sashimi. The rolls are not your regular california rolls--they have all the stuff that I normally wouldn't order at a Japanese place due to the exorbitant prices. My favorite is the uni--I used to call them sushi "brains" before I knew what they were called. Anyways, aside from the sushi, they also have an extensive selection of other Asian and American foods that you would normally find at a buffet, i.e. fried calamari, tempura, fried shrimp, salads, stuffed mushrooms, etc. Their tataki's are also very very good! The meats are so fresh, its really hard to pace yourself at this place because you want to load up your plate with everything! They also have crepe, udon, and bbq stations, and also dessert/ice cream too.
It would be a good idea to wear comfortable pants to this place, as I usually want to eat until I feel like I'm about to blow up.

One of the better buffets out there at 29.95 per person.
I like weekends because turnover rate is high and the food is fresh.
Favorites include sushi/sashimi, crab legs, oysters, hibachi, crepe lady, and desserts.
Just to lay it out upfront, I eat like a bird so buffet is not a suitable format for me to begin with. However, my friend loves this place, this was where he's celebrating his birthday, I like my friend, so I agreed to eat here. The company weighed heavier than the quality of food on this particular scale, so I sucked it up. My observation of the first, only and (let's make it) last time I was there is:
There was plenty of food, but not much that directly appealed to my palate per se. For the two rounds I did at the buffet spread, I came back with *TOTAL* a couple pieces of salmon + yellowtail sashimi, five or so pieces of assorted rolls, a couple of sushi, a couple of shumais, a couple of raw oysters and a couple of king crab legs on my plate. I did not even want dessert. Meanwhile, a glance towards the birthday boy's plate revealed eight pieces of salmon roe sushi (round 1), a mound of king crab legs (round 2), another eight to ten pieces of ikura sushi (round 3) and a few more rounds that I wasn't paying attention to. See what I mean by the wrong format for me?
To be fair, the food served here is not entirely crappy (just unexciting for me, personally). IMO, they offer a decent variety of sushi and rolls, a safe solution that surely will please any one with analysis paralysis. The waiting time was reasonable, venue is great for a large party, the staff was to-the-point and ready to serve, empty plates were removed in a timely manner, dwindling food sections were replenished efficiently, bathrooms were reasonably clean, and so on and so forth.
Therefore, Minado: Thank you, but no thank you. I'm keeping this review polite only to "give face" to my birthday friend, else I'd have ripped you to shreds. :)
PS: If I am to compare dollar values, I think East Manor dinner buffet also costs $29.99++ per person (pls correct me if I'm wrong). They have better raw bar, a smaller sushi selection, but more seafood and higher quality ingredients -- thus, I deem it a better way to spend your bucks, esp. in today's economy (if you're concerned with that sort of thing at all).
Sushi buffet you may ask yourself? This place has got to be bad, right? I will say that you are in for a surprise, all sushi here is very fresh and there is a pretty large variety to select from, some you may recognize, some mysterious unless you are a sushi aficionado. There is also hot food, soups, and desserts, which are decent but average fare in taste.
There are about ~50 tables, and a private room on the left that can be divided up with temporary walls if you do not need the whole room. The private room can fit approximately 100 people. The wooden tables and black chairs all look new and fairly maintained. Care was taken to make the ambiance of this facility to feel hip and modern. Check the photos out to see the facility and food presentation, which are all fairly decent.
Service is good, with busboys constantly weaving around to pick up any empty dishes on tables.
I don't know much of what to say about this buffet but Minado is one of the handful of buffets that are worth checking out.

Sushi buffet? Strip Mall? Exclusive Minado Discount Savings Card?
There is a reason I do not judge a book by it's cover, but to be sincere the cover of Minado looked pretty darn good once I arrived to meet friends here on a weekday. To note, I was in a rush, but once I heard that I could pay once I had completed my meal, I laid back and let the very attentive wait staff do the rest. While the waiter only takes your drink order, which made me wonder how you are supposed to tip at a buffet, the staff was exceptionally friendly and quickly removed my plates and refilled my drinks.
The food exceeded my expectations, both in quality and variety. I tried the pork shumai, sapporo roasted pork, salmon tataki, soba, and a variety of sushi and was very pleased with all of these dishes, which made an additional two trips for by the end of the experience. My friends went for the standard tempura and sushi offerings but also were pleased with the variety and the prices are VERY reasonable.
Overall, I think Minado provides a great deal, particularly for familes, and although it isn't in the best location, it is a great spot for a solid meal before going out in the surrounding area. Just don't let the kids get too crazy at the buffet, the shumai can only stay warm for so long.

This place exceeds expectations tremendously. I was very skeptical when i first heard of the huge sushi buffet int he strip mall, but i have to say this place is fantastic. I've been there about 10 times in the last year or so, usually for lunch on the weekend because its much cheaper than dinner which can be expensive.
They dont just offer Sushi, they offer lots of Japanese food and sashimi. This place has it all. The soup bar has an excellent crap soup, or you can get a few others, all very good. Or udon soup with Shrimp tempura. They have a grill station at dinner, but i dont go often enough to know what they serve. That have many many japanese or (or american style japanese) items they are very good, salads, grilled items, whole fish, clams, shrimp tempura, and many more. They sashimi is excellent and it usually salmon, tuna and some white fish which is good.
The sushi is much better than expected and is quite good. They have 25 or so rolls. Interesting rolls and the norm, quality fish. They even have more sashimi at the end. Aside form rolls they also have individual pieces of many types of fish. Highly recomended.

A regular, $20/person for lunch and Yes for the weekends too! Volcano roll, ebi, unagi, eel, sashimi salad - it's a large variety! What I also love about them is that they don't put too much rice with the sushi (ahem compared to Todai, grrrr). Green tea and vanilla ice cream for dessert and it stays cold for a long while =) There is a counter for udon noodles where you can ask the guy to add scallions, tempura(!!!) into your bowl. He'll add some hot soup to it and voila. The only problem is everytime I go there is this one type of SPECIAL FISH in the hot food bar that gets cleaned up before I even get to the back of the line. Why?? I guess it's just that good but I'm too mesmerized by the sushi to walk back and forth to the hot food bar. My boyfriend and I came here on valentine's day for lunch too and it was still $20 (The place was packed after 12pm, get there early on holidays!)

i went with family on one of my recent birthdays- meal was supposed to be on the house if you go on your birthday, but the waiter said its for head count of 5; we were one short..
i've had better rolls (unfortunately not listed on yelp), they use lots of rice & not enough "filling" for my like & pricing.. place gets really packed & crowded.
there are enough rave reviews about this place. so i'm just here to add to the numbers...and to say that this was one of the best meal experiences i've ever had in my life.

I agree with all the positive reviews below me; I wanted to give a specific "holiday" review. My girlfriend and I went last night (Valentine's Day). We know it's not romantic, thank you. For anyone who hasn't gone, no, it's not going to be romantic. We got there at 6:00 and it seemed like they had just opened back up, despite their posted hours of 5:30-whenever. When we drove up there was a HUGE line stretching down the sidewalk, and we had second thoughts about going. But we got in line and it quickly got much shorter. However, we didn't get to sit down right away and had to wait for about 45 minutes. They gave out numbers to everyone who was waiting, the concept of which a lot of the people around me did not understand. The numbers were completely random, but when they would call 76 and then 81, invariably, someone with 77 or 80 would go up in a panic and wonder if they had missed their chance.
Once we were seated, it was pretty much the normal Minado experience described by everyone else below me. They didn't run out of anything that I noticed, and everything was still very well prepared and fresh and delicious. The only thing I tried that I didn't like was the volcano roll, which tasted like barbecue sauce or something. But maybe you'll like it, so try it!! Oh and to clear up any confusion above, they take reservations only for parties of 10 or more, but if you're not going on a holiday, this won't be an issue. Enjoy!

I should disclose that I'm not really a buffet person.
It is what it is - a giant Japanese buffet. Lots of sushi, lots of cold salads, lots of hot entrees. And a hibachi. All interesting, none incredibly great. Actually it was all rather flavorless. Alas, flavor is not why you go to a buffet, you go to stuff as much of it down your gullet as you are physically capable of enduring. The desserts were a let down and the ice cream machine was broken when I went. But you shouldn't be able to even eat dessert if you're hitting the buffet as hard as you should be.

I cannot BELIEVE I have never written a review for this restaurant. It is ultimately the BEST buffet restaurant I've ever tasted in my life. I am such a supporter that I joined their frequent dining program as soon as I heard about it and I am still a card holder. For every $250 points I collect, I can get $15 credit towards the next meal. It isn't the best deal out there, but it's better than nothing and I've redeemed the $15 credit at least two times already. I even had my birthday here one year and staff came by with a peice of cake and sang happy birthday to me. Then they gave me an umbrella and took a polaroid picture.
Parking is a bit difficult, but usually there's a lot of parking at the left side of the restaurant.
From the time I walk in, I am immediately led to my table because there never is a line! When I sit down for dinner, the waiters are smart and very nice. They place a crab clamper on the table with a pile of napkins because they foresee what I need in advance. Every time my plate is done, they pretty much take it away right away because they come by frequently. They have been nothing short of great customer service!
The food selection is awesome! So many different types of sushi and the most delicious salads surround me. For dinner, I eat a lot of shrimp, juicy crab legs, delicious crepes made the way I like it, ice cream, a variety of fruits, and desserts. If I could change one thing, I would add more Chinese food to it, but it is a Japanese place.
It's pricey (see website), but it's totally worth it if you are a sushi lover. Think about it. If you order a plate of sushi from elsewhere, you'd have to pay at least $20 for a boat load of them so why not go unlimited? The best thing of all? The food is amazingly fresh and delicious.
Every time I step into this place, I feel like I stepped into heaven itself. Be prepared to wear loose fitting clothes and eat like there is no tomorrow!
PROS: Fresh, delicious food, great service
CONS: ...
*Please note this review only applies to Carle Place
*Now that Manhattan Minado has closed, this one is the closest for NYC residents. About 30-45 minutes from Manhattan. No public transportation is convenient enough to reach here.
Three words: Ultimate Sushi Galore
If you ever decide to have a sushi eating contest - and eat delicious fresh sushi without worrying about racking up the $$ - you HAVE to come to Minado Buffet. I advise you to come here JUST to eat sushi, as their cold and hot entrees are good but they bog down your stomach for your main goal - sushi.
For a buffet, they have such fresh, delicious sushi. Their fish,
cucumbers, and all their ingredients are always scrumptous. I must have went here like 10 times already - and the sushi has always been fresh, doesn't break off easily - just very well made.
Their sushi varies from time to time; but they usually have the same starters that play every day. The California, Salmon, Tuna, Eel, Cucumber, Boston, Philly, Tofu skin rolls will always be there. They do have some unique ones like Dynamite(red covered sushi), Beach Boy,and such. Hand made sushi wraps(large piece of seawood wrapped around the ingredients) are very interesting and definitely worth a chowdown.
Check out their website http://www.minado.com for COMPLETE list of all their sushi and their ingredients.
Their hot & cold entree is more of your usual buffet variety - but much better than other buffets I've been too. But, they stray you away from your mission - chow down as much sushi as you can. Their meat can sometimes be hard to chew on, and their lo mien/rice/ are loaded with msg to make you full as quick as possible(like most buffets) Their tempura are covered with alot of flour - very easy to make you full. Check out their hot/cold entree menu online - they have many delicious items - but not as fresh and delicious like their sushi.
*Their udon (you have to request it by the grill)is pretty good and worth a try.
Honestly, AVOID their night time buffet - the only thing different is the addition of seafood(like lobster), few specials on the Hibachi grill, ice cream, and the exaggerated dinner price. $26 M-Th $28 F-Sun **It's just not worth it. Come during lunch time. $15 M-F $17 Sat-Sun
Their dessert is tedious & reminds me of eating Entennam's. Their fruits range from fresh to borderline edible. Their jello - you can just make it at home. Some of their salads are good to try out, just like their cold entrees.
My advice - designate yourself in what area you want to eat when you walk in -
Either focus on 1)Sushi or 2)Hot/Cold Entrees
AVOID soda or any drinks - drinks are NOT free and they really really bog you down from eating food. Trust me, their soda is very inflated to make you full quick. That's how buffets make money - by providing soda/drinks/rice/flour/lo mien. AVOID sodas/drinks and minimize rice/flour/lo mien consumption. (However, their sushi japanese rice doesn't clog your stomach as much)
Tip: I do recommend having a glass of water(free)and after each plate, have 2 gulps of water to break down the food in your stomach. However, don't over drink water as it can make you full too.
Their restaurant setting is very comfortable and modern. It is a huge restaurant, being a buffet - can sit about almost 100-120. They have good ambiance and their furniture is of a modern asian touch. They have excellent service and it is a very civilized environment. Great for kids, and kids eat cheaper!
Minado has a shared private parking lot but parking in front of the restaurant is hard - you might have to park several roll of cars from the front door. This place opens at 11:30am, by 12:30pm it gets really busy. They take reservations but only for parties of 10 or more. They have private section designated for larger parties.
They obviously make good money - they only open like 6 hours a day(3 hours lunch, 3 hours dinner)Check their website for exact scheduling.
Don't even bother with their rewards program unless you plan to go there everyday.
So, wear loose clothing or unbuckle your belts and get ready to feast the ambrosia!

They have a large sushi selection and quality is decent. They don't have a lot of cooked foods but they do have Udon and Habachi. I can't say I ever left here satisfied. I feel they are a bit expensive for what they serve. I have been here a few times but never more than once a year. There are better options out there.
I don't usually do buffets. I tend to stay away from them but I would be willing to try one if it has an excellent reputation. Well let me tell you, this place is excellent! It is very busy and most likely you will have to wait about 15-20 minutes or so for a table. Very roomy, bright and clean.
The foods range from sushi and salads to udon and tempura along with some traditional cooked dishes. There is also a dessert station with a variety of small cakes, fresh fruit and ice cream (the green tea ice cream and yogurt are pretty good). There are over 30 selections of sushi & sashimi and creative rolls such as the Dynamite Roll (Salmon, Tuna, Crab, Avocado, Cucumber, & Yamagobo) and the Beach Boy (Tuna, Masago, Avocado, & Tamago)
and so much more to choose from. The fish is very fresh and everything is frequently re-stocked.
The staff is pleasant and accommodating and they had a little expensive but impressive wine list for a buffet. The prices are decent...
Lunch: Monday - Friday: $14.50 Saturday - Sunday: $16.50 Holidays*: $16.50
Dinner: Monday - Thursday: $25.00 Friday - Sunday: $27.00 Holidays*: $27.00
Excellent buffet experience, go relax and enjoy. Be prepared to chow down!

Minado is probably one of the best Sushi/Buffet Restaurants available! The main quip I have is the fact that parking is always a pain in the ass to find. But for the great food at great prices, I'll suffer it!
When you first enter the restaurant, you can see the fancy, well-lit giant aquarium they have, with all sorts of exotic fish, that are pleasing to the eyes. There is one particular hostess who is quite cute, but I digress. The restaurant is so spacious and the seating is more than abundant, which is definitely a plus. Waiting for tables haven't been a major problem whenever I've visited during the weekend.
The wide variety of sushi is just dazzling! I must recommend the yellow tail, tuna, and especially the SALMON! If you also like eating the raw fish without the rice, there's a big bowl where these sliced raw fish are arranged in a nice display, which goes quickly, so go there and pick em up first!
Their hibachi steak and their udon (soup noodles) are pretty good for a buffet. And they have agreeable salads and fruits. So, if sushi isn't your thing, but most of your relatives or friends love it, you have something to fall back on.
The prices are very reasonable: $12 per person for lunch (I think) and about $20 per person for dinner. (Please note: Although dinner is much pricier, they usually offer something special that is not offered during lunch, which sometimes includes lobster, which is quite a treat! Also green tea ice-cream is only available during dinner time.)
If you want a dining experience that is quite different for a buffet, then I strongly suggest you try Minado. Trust me, you will not regret it one bit!

Japanese AYCE
The first Minado I had ever gone to. Afterwards I heard that it was a really popular AYCE place in NJ. It was actually stumbled upon after a shopping trip at Roosevelt Field Mall. I've eaten at the now closed Minado location in NYC, but this place is still the better of the two NY locations.
For about $23 a head, you can feast your eyes and your stomach on ALOT of food. Many different types of sushi, sashimi and maki rolls for you to feast on. For those who don't like raw fish, you can always eat on the cooked side, with choices of teriyaki, calamari, dumplings and fish. Alot of different menu items everyday. There is pretty much something for everyone here, a large variety of salads, cocktail shrimp, raw oysters and clams. You can even have hibatchi if that is what you want. Afterwards, if you are still hungry, go get some dessert and some fresh fruit. I really like the fresh pineapple they have here. I think once I had so many pieces, my tongue started to get numb. The food here is very fresh and very tasty.
Very recommended.

It'd been awhile since I last ate here, but what- the- hay I gotta spread the word about this place.
I remember that very day I lost my job, so my relatives took me out to Minado. Well, my favorite food is sushi and this was the place to cheer me up!
The sushi is fresh and the chefs kept on bringing out the fresher batch (as long the place is crowded). They have so many variety that I had to gobble up them all. Although, I didn't make room for the Udon station- they had so many varieties of toppings that had me drooling. The cold dishes were delicious and were fresh. I loved the fact that they have Green Tea Ice Cream. mhhmmmmmmmm!
My advice when coming to this restaurant: You better come to this place on an empty stomach.
average buffet food.
came here for an extended family gathering. parking was easy. not much a wait. staff is attentive. most the food is average. some of it is not. stay away from the tempura for sure. stay away from the uni - its the weirdest tasting uni i ever had. i would just stick with the sashimi or sushi. if you don't mind salty go for the alaskan king crab legs, they are pretty juicy and sweet too. make sure you eat most of your plate because they charge you extra for wasting food.
would i go back? no way if i'm alone or with a date. if i wanna be a cheap bastard hosting a party for a group of gluttonous guys who don't have gourmet taste buds - decent choice.
too bad the minado in manhattan closed down. i thought the food there tasted a notch better.
I love all you can eat sushi places -- even though this is the only one I've ever been to -- because people like me don't get enough in conventional Japanese restaurants, even when we're fat bastards and order the sushi deluxe for two. It's still not enough.
At Minado, I can engorge myself on a wide variety of rolls, then go back for a second round, which will invariably include several (dozen) sushi and sashimi pieces. When I'm done with sushi, if there's any room left, I can go to the opposite side of the buffet and sample an endless array of other stuff.
This place has a few problems, however, that keep it from getting a fifth star:
+ It's on Long Island, so expect stupidity, i.e., people standing in front of the buffet trays for inordinate periods of time, competely incapable of figuring out what to put on their plate, and oblivious to the fact that people are waiting behind them. Also, expect guidos, mullets, and a smattering of inappropriate behavior.
+ Like any buffet, the food turns over faster during peak hours -- read: freshness -- so if you want to see Minado at its best, you'll have to be there when it's crowded. See above.
All things considered, however, I recommend Minado very highly.

When I first heard of a sushi buffet, I was skeptical to say the least. However, I was pleasantly suprised. The sushi, while not mindblowing, was far superior to what I expected from a buffet, and they had several dozen varieties available. Most of their hot dishes are rich and full of flavor, but try to get to them when they're still close to full.

I'm a big fan of Minado. For one price you get an all-you-can-eat buffet that includes a wide range of Japanese food (including decent sushi). All of the trays are prepared fresh and the wait-staff are attentive.
As an added bonus there are also an assortment of delicious desert options. One thing to bear in mind is that I don't think there is a non-buffet option. I believe it is either buffet or nothing. The place is huge and there is always available seating (for lunch). Lastly I don't see an option below for Beer and Sake but that is what I've had there.
Great Buffet. King Crag Legs! Only downside of them is that they drown them in very salty water. Definitely want to deter over-eating of the crab legs as they are prob the most expensive item on the buffet. The sushi is decent....nothing great. Try and stick to the sashimi as you don't want to fill up on sushi rice at a buffet. I also heard they charge you for not eating the rice. I'm not sure about this as it's never happened to me, but I can def see it happening.
The hot items are very good. A lot of different selections. Seafood, Beef, Chicken, & Pork dishes. Soups too. They have it all. You'll see a lot of typical chinese buffet items here.
The waiters definitely try and fill you up with drinks as they make sure to continuously ask you for a drink order.
Lunch is cheaper than dinner buffet, but either way it's still worth the price.
Best buffet ever! Its a great place for big groups and birthdays.
This is a pretty good all you can eat sushi buffet. This is a good place for if you live outside the city. If you live inside the city, you can find a good all you can eat sushi buffet called Todai. Minado has a good selection of sushi and sashimi. There is definitely a lot of seafood (both raw and cooked) to be consumed at this establishment. The dessert bar is filled with tiny bite sized desserts so that you can try everything and not feel that bad about it. The service is very attentive. A line does form at the front door during the weekends. For the price and your digestive tract, I would recommend limiting visits to once a month.

Abandon all hope of self-control ye who enter here. This is a serious buffet. The salad choices alone are worth the price of admission. The selection (hot, cold and lukewarm) is pretty much endless are everything is fresh. One word of caution to first-timers: survey the battlefield carefully before engaging directly in the conflict. Otherwise, you may head straight for the sushi and max out your spandex seams before you realize you missed all those goodies on the opposite end of the buffet. Scope it out, stalk your prey, and take aim. By the way, don't worry if sushi ain't your thing. There's plenty to keep you busy if the concept of comestible raw fish has limited appeal for you. And they've got crepes for dessert. Crepes. At a Japanese buffet. Is this here America a great country, or what?
Serious serious gluttony. Hardcore. Like practice stuffing face for a few days and then you'll be ready to eat here. Delish. Huge variety of sushi, I personally prefer lunch because I don't care much for crab legs n such. The hand rolls (unagi avocado) are big and fresh, but can be a little tough to eat. different salads and stuff are great, it's all pretty fresh. One star off because a lot of time the rolls falls apart, which is really annoying, and because it has a slightly warehouse-like feel to it. Come gather round the sushi trough, it's yummy.
