After seeing many positive reviews of this garage online, which is pretty rare around here, I decided to take my 1996 Jeep Cherokee to this garage for an oil change, belts/hoses check, and an estimate on a maintenance tuneup.
While a $43 oil change (including an extra quart of oil) seemed pricey, even for the city, the $300 estimate for a tuneup was a little absurd, so I decided to forego the latter. Also, a $32 charge for tire rotation was steep considering many places charge around $20 or include it for free with an oil change.
The owner said the belts/hoses were o.k., so I took that as a sign that they weren't trying to rip me off or take advantage of a new customer, which I greatly appreciated.
Although the prices are a little steep, they're not prohibitive, so considering the overall feeling of trustworthiness I got from the owner and the mechanics, I'll definitely be going back if I need repairs.
I've only been once and had an OK experience, so I'm giving it a 3. This was my second time needing something done on my car, so I based my choice on location and online reviews. This place came up.
They gave me a very high estimate, but matched the much lower estimate of another place. In fact, they matched it exactly. Thank you.
However, they took an extra day. They showed up over 30 mins. late. I had called ahead but they didn't have my info.
The nice parts: They have a receptionist so someone always answers the phone. The mechanics seem nice. They didn't try to get me to have anything extra done. They were polite. The place was pretty clean (not sure if they have a waiting area, though).
I would go again.
Love to support family-run local businesses like this one. Nothing flashy from the outside; clean inside with a reception area so you have someone to talk to right away. Frank Sr. has fixed our Volvo wagon and advised us on purchasing other vehicles. I would highly recommend this place. If may not always be the cheapest, but you get what you pay for.
I just got my car inspected here and it was so easy! Everybody there was so nice, they didn't try to sell me anything unnecessary and they called me both to let me know when the best time to bring my car in would be, and when it was ready. Conveniently located in Center City, reasonably priced, friendly staff.
Mechanic convenient because of its location in the Graduate Hospital area. Read favorable reviews on Phillyblog and have taken my car in for new struts and a new turn signal. Only wish they'd accept AmEx, were open a little later on weekdays (they close at 5:30), and were open on the weekends.
