I've been coming to Mimmo's for awhile now. It's super casual so you can bring kids (if you got em). The food is good, I've had the salads in the deli case, the sandwhiches, & the pizza.
The dough & bread tastes really fresh, they have a cute patio outside covered in greenery. We usually sit on the front patio with our dogs on lazy afternoons. I recommend it for casual quick good food.

I love Mimmos!!!

The atmosphere is very cute and the food is great and inexpensive! I remember being taken here when I was little and getting treated to pastrami sandwiches when I was good in school. Oh the joys of being Italian! And I remember attempting to climb the fake stairs when my parents were in line to order and always getting yelled at by the employees, ha! Still the stairs make me want to venture up there and explore!

In a sense I wish they would open up other locations, but it would take away from the authenticness of Little Italy.

Today I was working in Little Italy, so a co-worker and I walked over here to grab a quick bite for lunch.

I had the Tunisia sandwich, which is made with Yellowfin Tuna, Capers, Roasted Red Peppers, Chives, Tomatoes, Onions, Pepperoncinis, and Oil & Vinegar.  It was refreshing to have a tuna sandwich that wasn't loaded with mayonnaise.  I absolutely love capers, so the fact that they were included made me appreciate it even more.  However, it wasn't just the capers that made it great.  The combination of flavors gave the sandwich added punch. While the bread was nothing special, it was fresh, slightly crunchy, and perfectly suited for this sandwich because it did not overpower the delicious flavors it contained.  On top of everything, it was only 6 bucks - quite a bargain, especially for San Diego.  (Side Note: The sandwich is even trademarked on the menu and it should be - it was quite unique!)

I also ordered the half pint of the bean salad, which contained garbanzo beans, kidney beans, and a couple of types of green beans.  It was equally outstanding and only 2 bucks.  The raspberry iced tea was tasty as well.

As you wait in the lunch line, you can view all the salads, and they're hard to resist as you decide on your order.  For salad lovers, you can also get a selection of 4 of their salads for just under 7 bucks.

Great lunch spot for a solid meal that won't break your budget.  I only wish I worked in Little Italy more frequently.

What a great place for a quick lunch!

Me and the broad I make out with...i.e., my girlfriend, stopped in for a little mid-day snack-a-roo. I've had their food a bunch, but it's always been at a catered party of some sort. Birfday parties, anniversary celebrations, Columbus Day ragers, etc....This was the first time I've actually seen where the magic happens. When I say magic, I don't mean that David Blaine tomfoolery, I'm talkin' straight Houdini, biatch!

I've had their tunista sandwich before. That thing melts faces. It's a tuna sandwich with olive oil, capers and peppers...all served on their fresh baked bread. It's like a bunch of spicy Italian honeys are having an orgy en me boca. It's a must try!

This time around, I had their 4-salad special. It's about $7 duckets for 4 different salad choices. I went with a potato/chive salad, a linguini/pesto salad, a garbanzo bean salad, and an amazing apple Waldorf salad. Talk about a refreshing meal! I feel like a new man! I whacked those carbs down with a crisp diet Dr. Pepper, and called it a day.

Now, I'm in one of those sleepy, carb comatose states. A fatty cigar and a body shampoo from Osaka Massage sound like the best way to round out this afternoon. TTFN.

Great spot, especially for a quick/cheap lunch or a casual dinner.  The decor is so cute and the food is yummy.  For lunch they have a really good deal on a combo of the salads that they offer.  If I don't get the salad combo then I almost always order the eggplant parm sub.  The service here is fast, food is cheap and tasty.  If I was in Little Italy I would choose Mimmos for lunch every time,, but for dinner I would head to Buon Appetito (my new favorite).

The Jist:  Americanized italian food in a Disneyland-like atmosphere

Day/Time/Reason for Visit:  Friday/8:00/Dinner with out of town friend
Monies:  ~$25/person for wine, appetizer and entree
Scene:  Epcot in San Diego.  Fun and casual atmosphere set amongst a very cute and decorated faux italian street scene and feel like you're far from India st.
Peeps:  Families, Groups and Young Couples
Foodies:  Ordered the Caprese Salad, Canneloni and the Linguini Clams

My 2 Cents:  If you like Buca di Beppo, then you'll like this place.  If you're looking for authentic Italian food, then stay far far away.  Atmosphere is very charming and a perfect date spot as long as your sweetheart cannot tell the difference between extra virgin olive oil and the cheap yellow stuff they serve you here.  Prices are reasonable which makes it convenient for groups, but the restaurant skimps on quality ingredients to make up for price, and hence loss of taste.  Stick to generic Italian food like Pizza and Meatballs and you should be fine.

How do you choose exactly which Italian restaurant to walk into every time you cruise down India Street in Little Italy?  They all seem pretty much the same, don't they?  I mean there may be a little twist here, a few cougars at the bar there, but only a couple of these places have unique offerings - Mimmos is one of them.

Now I haven't been here for dinner so i really can't speak to the evening menu.  And the decor reminds me a little too much of a "Mimi's Cafe".  BUT, the saving grace is the "4 SALAD LUNCH SPECIAL".  This is an awesome (and reasonably healthy) deal!  Get your salad with choices ranging from octopus to fruit to pasta to greek....all for $7 BUCKS!

Run in, order the salad extravaganza to go, pay and you'll be out of there in 10 minutes.

Great simple place for lunch, or even lunch on the go, the food is good quality and has good flavor.  The location is very versatile, they even have pre made salads and a small deli, definately worth checking out.

It's really cute in here but it's really like a self-service cafeteria type of dealie-o.

I like the concept of the four salad lunch.

Variety with no commitment. My type of lunch.

The only downer is their cheap bread for the sandwiches and the rolls. It's like polystyrene bread that leaves crumbs all over; even in your shirt.

My biggest withdrawl of working up in LA. I can't stroll over for lunch and pick up my Philly Cheesesteak or 4-salad combo!

This place is the epitomy of what ALL DELI's should strive to be. Fantastic, cozy, charming place that whisks you off to Italy when you walk in. The owners all know me by 1st name, still, even though now I only drop in about once every 3-4 months...BOO.

Out of all the salad options, the feta pasta is my fave! Fresh pasta, fresh feta, fresh tomatoes and fresh basil. It is so good, sometimes I scoot over on a Saturday just to get a pint to go.

I haven't tried their dinner menu yet, but I would not be suprised if its a 5-star also.

I will say this though, a privellage that I am mighty proud of, I, Kelsey Gallagher, drank the 1st beer at Mimmos! That's right, they weren't gonna start serving with their new license until dinner, but they let me have one for my lunch!

We were heading out the beach and had to figure what to get for lunch.  We ordered an Italian Village Special, Roast Beef, and a Turkey.  Of the three the Italian Village Special was the best.

There was very little meat in the sandwich.  With the Roast Beef, you could only taste the cheese.   I only ate half and I brought the rest home and toasted it, it was much better toasted.

The sandwiches were decent but I was hoping for more.

Here ya go, short and sweet:

Four-lunch salad.  Four different salads (heaping portions) on one plate or to-go box.  It's cheap and delicious and will bust your gut.

The sandwiches are pretty good, too.  Sit down and eat if you can find a table or just take it back to your home or office.

Great for a quick lunch if you forgot to bring your lunchbox.

This review is for dinner only, as I have yet to eat lunch at Mimmo's. As mentioned by other reviews, the decor is very Disneyland. It reminded me of New Orleans Square, but more Tuscan. It was a little silly, but I liked it. My companion and I were seated immediately in a little alcove, which was sweet and private... or it would have been if there were not another couple seated at the second table in the small alcove. I felt like we were practically sitting at the same table because the size of the room was so intimate. This didn't bother me that much, but I found myself feeling guilty and hoping the other couple didn't feel invaded.

The menu is short and sweet and out waitress was very attentive. She was able to offer advice on wine and kept the water glasses full. I had tomato soup and the cheese platter (yes, I order odd things for dinner). The tomato soup was unusual in that it was chunky, but it was quite tasty. The cheese platter was a delight; at $13 it was the most substantial cheese plate I've ever seen, and I've seen many. There were 5 cheeses, walnuts, dried cranberries, marmalade, and fresh grapes and strawberries. Now, it wasn't the most elegant presentation or the fanciest cheeses, but in my opinion the hearty, country charm made it more appetizing. The plate also introduced me to a great new cheese, which wouldn't have found its way onto a snobbier platter.

Two unusual points on the service: the waitress did not tell me the names of my cheeses when they arrived, and, though we requested that my dining partner's leftovers be boxed, they were not. Neither of these things was too terribly bothersome to me, I mostly care about my water being full and regular checks, which was fine here. I found the experience overall to be positive.

Mimmo's is owned by the decently sized yet still non-corporate "Grab-N-Go" sandwich company. For a long (perhaps under different ownership?) Mimmo's only served italian styled subs. My grandpa and I would come here for lunch and he'd order the eggplant parmesan while I went for the Capicola. I never had a bad experience here as far as food quality. They also have some amazing cheeses you can purchase toward the front of the store. Good stuff.

I am obsessed with this place. I love going there for lunch - 4 salad combo! - and I love going there for dinner (the cheese/meat appetizer is amazing). Their gnocci, along with a moderately-priced bottle of Reisling is my little version of heaven.

Three words: Grilled Cheese Feta

Of course it's not vegan!  I am, after all, the Evil of ALL Vegans - and though I am mildly allergic, I do enjoy cheese occasionally (followed by a swift punishment of phlegm-ish-ness ... nice).  It's all I've ever gotten here and it's the only reason I'd go.  Cheap, tasty eats.

For a speedy lunch option in the heart of Little Italy, Mimmo's is tough to beat. Tons of tasty salad options made fresh daily/constantly, famous sandwiches (these are the Grab & Go guys, after all), and select pastas to choose from. Huge space, with great decor inside, sidewalk seating outside, and a well-kept secret of a patio in the back, there's something for everyone here. Hot tip: phone in your order for pick-up, and beat the rush. Friendly, family-owned atmosphere, and some of the freshest food around.

I'll agree, the decor is very well done.  I like the feel of this place a lot.  The portions are small and higher priced than some other places on India, but the food was good overall.  Our waitress seemed to forget we were there... always annoying.  At least we had plenty to look at while waiting for the check!

Mmm, the best sub lives at Mimmo's! Maybe it's the yummy warm bread or the way it's all wrapped up, snugly smooshing perfect ingredients together. Whatever it is, I am in love.

Thea, Sze and I planned to have lunch in Little Italy, but I was adamant about eating lunch at lunch prices. What's up with all these places charging dinner prices? *cough* Buon Appetito *cough* Not cool! Fortunately, there is Mimmo's where you can get a plate of pasta with a salad for under $8, or 4 salads for $6, or subs or calzones or pizza. Mimmo's is a great place to do lunch especially if you sit out on the back patio.

The only thing I don't love about Mimmo's is how damn dark it is inside where you order/dine indoors. It's like a cave. Other than that, awesome! 4.5 stars from me.

Mimmos has a decent italian sandwich but their pasta salad is the reason that I make the trek there for lunch. I actually like their whole little "salad" deli case. Granted, it's not overboard awesome, it's just really good and sometimes I crave it along with a salami sandwich. Plus I love all the drink selections. fun. Stop by if you're in the area. It's a good little place.

Their four salad lunch combo for $6 is great- especially worth it is the octopus salad. Everything was fresh and delicious, and Nadine & Sze raved about their sandwich. The outside patio is nice and quiet, a good relief after the madness that is parking in Little Italy.

I wish the interior were brighter during the day-- why do they have the sunroofs covered? Seems a bit silly, since it would be so cute otherwise. Yes, a bit corny- it reminded me of the Mexico or Germany pavilions in EPCOT only this time themed for Italy. But here's a secret of mine: I just adore Disney, even though it is a cover for total right-wing "family values" aka homophobia and rampant consumerism. Uh... so that means to say that Mimmo's vibe is great for me.

What a cute Italian place! It's a mini Italian village indoors.

I was seated in the backyard patio which was nice b/c it was quiet. After arriving into San Diego for Comic Con, I need a little respite from all the people here. Especially after finding parking here! Nightmare!

I had the bruchetta (yummy) and pasta al pesto (divine) with a glass of Riesling Saint M. I'm picky about how pasta is cooked. I don't like it too al dente or mushy and they had it just right! (quoting a little blonde girl who b/e into some bears' house)

The service was excellent! My server's name was Fabian (I think). He was quick and attentive. Easy on the eyes too! I would definitely come back again!! Thanks to James L for the recommendation! He rocks!

Sorry to bring down the class curve but Mimmo's extended dinner service just doesn't cut it. . .

Like the rest of you, I love Mimmo's for lunch.  The interior reminds me of a Disney restaurant with the details of a Venetian neighborhood.  The patio feels like dining in Mimmo's backyard.  The quick service and fantastic selection is a nice respite from the stuffy, marble and granite options around Little Italy. I've had my fair share of the sandwiches and start going through withdrawals without some of his pasta salads each week.

This being said, my daughter goes to school with Mimmo's grand-daughter and so when she got to choose somewhere for a special dinner she chose Mimmo's.  What a great choice I'm thinking; something for everyone, good quality, and easy on Dad's wallet.

I don't know if you've been there after dark but Mimmo's gets dressed up for dinner.  Some of the faves from lunch are sorely missing and if they are on the menu, they're suffering from delusions of grandeur. $15 sandwiches?  C'mon Mimmo, cut us some slack!

This wouldn't be so bad if the dining experience was significantly improved but putting collared shirts and black aprons on the day's busboys does not magically turn them into Serverman.

My daughter loved it so I held my tongue about most of the service issues and it made for a better meal for all of us in the long run.  Come to think of it, I can be a little hard on places and if there's a little fledgling foodie in your life, this is a good spot to bring them as it has that "nice dinner out" vibe while still. . .well, still being Mimmo's.

Mimmo's = 5 stars for lunch, 3 stars for dinner

You can't go wrong with anything here. You can order sandwiches, calzones or choose from the case of different italian offerings such as three bean salad, antipasto and waldorf.

Cheese lovers will dig on the grilled feta sandwich. I love the combination calzone, which is filled with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms and onions.

If you go on the weekends, get there a little before the lunch rush so you can stake out a prime people watching table on the front patio. If you see me out there with my calzone and a peroni, be sure to say hi.

After doing some shopping around for a good place to eat in Little Italy, I decided upon Mimmo's and figured I would give it a shot and see how I liked it.

I'm happy to say that I was very pleased with my overall experience. My server was very attentive and polite, and he took good care of us during our meal. I had the Cheese Tortellini with Grilled Chicken, but substituted the chicken out for shrimp, as I was in the mood for seafood. It was quite good, although the portions were a little small.

The ambiance was very nice, with a whole indoor, outdoors thing going.

I will certainly come back again in the future.

This place looks cute and promising from the outside, but it's really cheesy Italian. Inside it's like a mini-city, kind of Vegas-style with the whole outdoor-but-indoor theme. You wait in line for your food and pass the deli case with pasta salads and meats, and then order at the cash register.

OK I guess I'm being harsh, so I'll change it from cheesy to just Chef Boyardee-ish. It's cheap, bland, simple, pasta with sauce. Nothing special, no real flavor. During any Little Italy festival you can go here and not spend an arm and a leg and find something to fill your stomach, but it's plain and simply boring. Yet another place in Little Italy that doesn't belong.

Quick and simple during lunch; great and relaxing during dinner time.  Mimmo's is so money.  The subs are outstanding, especially the Italian Village Special and the Sicilian.  Salads are just as delicious.  The bruschetta here reminded me of some I had in Italy.  Almost.  The olive oil was a bit tangy and plentiful, but enhanced the food nicely.  The ambience is on target for what you'd expect from neat, little Italian place.  I hope to try the wine selection in the near future.  Benissimo!

I work at Blick Art Materials across the street from Mimmos and they're my favorite place to get my fat on if I've forgotten my lunch at home.  They've got this really awesome ready-made pasta/salad deal at lunch time that I always take advantage of.  Four salads of your choice (I always get the fruit salad, feta pasta, pesto pasta, and seasoned veggies) for $6.  The grilled cheese feta and macaroons are fantastically delectable as well.

The service is really nice too.  Everyone is friendly and pleasant.  I always direct Blick customers to Mimmos if they're looking to have a bite after shopping with us.

Need Lunch Plans? This place is great for $7.95 you can choose to create your own plate from a selection of delectable salads like pasta, waldorf, spinach and more. I've also had their Philly Cheesesteak and being from that area, I have to say they do a great job. Make sure you ask them for ketchup though as that doesn't seem to come standard. Nice outdoor seating and indoor ambiance. Quick, low-cost and quality food!

While walking around on India street searching for a dinner spot, we strolled upon Mimmo's.  We were seated promptly at about 8:00pm on a Friday.  The decor inside was very nice.  The walls had different buildings painted on it.

As we were looking for something to order, we decided on a bottle of wine.  When we said "Ruffio" not realizing there was a white and a red, the waitor assumed red. Brought it out, and we said "wait, we wanted a white".  He said "oh, well, i'm going to have to ask my manager" so we said screw it, we drank red instead. Taking the blame for not being wine connaisseur.

When he brought out bread, he brought 4 plates for a party of 5. Then he said "oh you're missing a plate" and he never brought out the 5th one.  He hardly came by to refill waters.

We ordered an appetizer- bruchetta, which was okay.

When our meals came out...guess what, he brought four instead of five. His excuse: "one of the waitors took your meal by mistake".  So as we had four hot plates ready to eat, our poor friend didn't have his. We gave him some of our food. About 20 minutes later, he brought his plate.  He said he'd give him a free dessert.

As he took the plates away, he asked if I wanted my food boxed. "Yes, please" I said. He came back with desserts, and didn't bring my food. I became worried that he had again forgotten.  Then he brought the checks, still empty handed. So I asked him, "do you still have my food I wanted boxed?"  His response, with a tone of hesitation:  "Uhhhhh....mmmyeesssss, it's in a safe place at the back of the restaurant".  He came back with a box which the amount inside seemed less than what I actually had.

I decided not to take it with me, who knows where this "safe spot" at the back of the restaurant was...perhaps, the garbage can?

The spicy shrimp pasta was not good.  The luinguni pomodoro was delicious.  The red wine chianti - ruffio was good. The tiramisu was good. The cannoli was really bad. Our bill was $110 for a party of 5.

It's funny how service can really make or break a place.  This place has so much more potential.  But, will I go back to Mimmo's? No sir.

I have only tried the tuna and capers sandwich, but I have to say I am HOOKED!!  Its not your usual tuna sandwich loaded with mayo.  Its light and filled with flavor.  Everything else also looks delicious.  I would definitely go back.

I work in the area and I'm sad because Mimmos used to be one of my favorite spots to eat at during lunch. I went there today for lunch and I had the four salad special. They have raised the price by a dollar....so I paid almost $7.00 for four salads....the fruit wasn't anything special, the apple salad is always good, the other salads were just plain jane. I feel like I did not get my money's worth and I will not go back. The last time that I went before today was about 5 months ago, I called in my order and when I picked it up and got back to my office I realized they gave me the wrong order. THis also happened one other time. I can honestly say they used to be great but now I'd rather go hungry!

I'm spending the weekend in San Diego and I had to run over to Mimmos to try the grilled feta cheese sandwich that you Yelpers have been raving about.  Needless to say, it did not disappoint!  Great mix of crunchy bread, grilled onions, warm feta cheese and tasty peppers combined in a perfectly-portioned sandwich.

I just beat the lunchtime rush, so if you want to get a quick bite, make sure you make it over just before noon.

Also had an italian side salad of tomatoes, broccoli and cauliflower in an italian dressing.  Yummy!

I have never had anything but the pastrami sandwich here because it's so good, I never want to eat anything else. It comes with a generous portion of pastrami. I took my friend's husband's advice and ordered it extra toasty, thinking it might come out too dry, but it was perfect.
