6 reviews for Milwaukee Chophouse
I've never given any place 5 stars but I'm SOOOOOO tempted to give this place 5. I often complain of the lack of good ethnic food in Milwaukee but steak is definitely something Milwaukee gets right!
First, the setting is classy and romantic (despite this place being located inside a hotel), but that's ok. The service is professional and friendly, which is always a plus, and didn't seem extremely stuffy, which can happen at nice steakhouses.
The steaks were fairly sized and delicious, cooked exactly as we ordered (all medium-rare). I hate over-cooked meat and this place definitely avoided that sin. I believe we got Filet Mignon's and a New York Strip, all of which were delicious. My sister ordered some sort of fish, that was cooked on the outside, but raw inside, and at first we had our doubts. However, it was freakin' delicious so I definitely recommend getting it. The sides are generic but well done (spinach, corn potatos).
It's pricey, but hey, you're not going in here thinking its an Outback Steakhouse or Black Angus.
Food here is great. The crab cakes are phenomenal, and the lobster bisque is, in my opinion (and I've had the lobster bisque at pretty much every high-end restaurant in the city), the best in the city.
Steaks were perfectly prepared and delicious. My bone in rib-eye was a perfect medium rare and was as juicy and flavorful as any I've had. Service was attentive without being overbearing.
Since this restaurant is in a hotel the atmosphere feels a little more casual, but I actually prefer that to something trendy and somewhat stuffy like Carnevor. Everybody here was very friendly.
This place is kind of hidden and never gets mentioned in discussions of Milwaukee's top steakhouses; it's definitely under the radar, but the food is definitely just as good as the other top steakhouses in the city. The ambiance might not be what you're used to for a restaurant like this, but if you want a great meal in setting that's a tad more casual, you can't go wrong with The Milwaukee Chophouse.
This steakhouse is exceptional except for 2 things. We went here for our wedding anniversary & I stated so when I made my res & again mentioned to both the hostess & waitress as I was gushingly excited to eat there on such a momentous occasion. No one even commented on it. Secondly, the prices are quite high esp during tight economic times so the restaurant was quite empty despite being downtown & inside the Hilton. On the plus side, you are able to split your hors d'ouvres, steak $44 bone in ribeye, wine $9 sangiovenese & strawberry clafouti with foie gras dessert without any penalty. The steak was unbelievable & was already served on 2 plates cut precisely with a ladies & man's cut (bone in). Total was $64 pretip but really would be $128 if both people ordered instead of sharing. Definitely spectacular but only for a once in a while treat.
BAR - Love it. Eating solo at the bar is one of my favorites. The food is very good. And the staff is super knowledgable and jovial. Expect a personal visit from the manager asking how you are doing. Steaks are perfect. And if they are not, they will make it right and then some.
RESTRAURANT-Uh, ok. Our waitress had little command of english or the menu. Just not the level of service I would expect from this place. I mean, don't tell me to tip on the full amount b4 coupon. I am not am animal. It is really insulting.
My husband took me here for our anniversary. It was a quaint romantic place perfect for our tastes.
We started with the hand carved ahi tuna. My husband having lived in Hawaii for a number of years enjoyed the tuna reminiscent of his bachelorhood! I am a bit fearful of food that is barely cooked, so having tried each of the sauces with the tuna I left the rest for him to enjoy.
We absolutely loved our steaks. They were delicious and melted in our mouths. The sides on the other hand... the potatoes were forgettable and the asparagus grilled to charred sticks.
The dessert was so good it deserves it's own paragraph. The warm center chocolate cake was to absolutely die for. For cake people or chocoholics... OH MY!!! Skip the sides and order dessert.
This was my second visit. The first was with a client, where we had a terrific time and great food served to us while sitting at the bar. The bartenders are exceptionally accommodating so we felt no need to take our table. This second time, my wife and I started a bottle of wine at the bar. The bartender, David, was very knowledgeable and helpful with our wine selection and put us in a good mood for the rest of the evening. I learned that we should have stayed at the bar and received the royal treatment like I had remembered from my first visit. Our table service was barely adequate. We had to ask twice if there were any rolls or bread before the meal? We each ordered filets that were exceptional. The filets come with sautéed mushrooms. My sweet wife politely asked if onions could be substituted for the mushrooms. Her steak came with a small glop of onions that had been grilled into submission and my steak came without a side, even though I had remarked to the waiter that I was looking forward to the mushrooms. The baked sweet potato we had as a side was O.K., not nearly as exceptional as the filets. In hindsight, I wonder if the waiter was miffed that we chose not to begin the meal with any of the ala cartes -- salad, soup or fried thingies -- that would have padded our final bill and, thusly, would have increased his tip. To be honest, knowing how delicious the steaks are, we didn't want to fill up on hors d'oeuvres. After finally flagging down the waiter to pay, we escaped back to the bar for coffee and dessert wines. My advice when visiting the Milwaukee Chophouse: dine at the bar -- it's a comfortable space and the bartenders will make you feel appreciated and welcome.
