Tried Miller's Pub for the first time even though I've lived in the area for years.  The place gives off a cool 70's Mario Puzo type vibe.  My buddy and I both had the prime rib sandwich au jus and my other friend had the steak sandwich on garlic bread.  The consensus at the table was the same: we really liked our food, but smallish portions.  I wouldn't mind if they increased their prices and dished out a heartier meal.  Not too many fries with our sandwiches, and my friend's steak sandwich looked pretty pathetic.

We also tried the spanikoptia appetizer and it was just okay.  My favorite part of this tasty treat is the flaky filo dough, but since at Miller's they make it one big batch and not individual small pockets, you don't get as much as you'd like.  Beer prices are comparable to others in the area, and have a pretty good selection on tap.

Manhattans. Old school bartenders that know how to make them well. Friendly and welcoming, Miller's is the sort of place we like to hit when dressed up. It can be tricky getting bar stools, but if you wait it out just a bit you may score one or two. It's a pretty near perfect place to stop in when you're in the neighborhood, regardless of what you're doing or how you're dressed.

I need to give the food a few more shots because it hasn't won me over, but the Manhattans I happily stand behind.

I've worked down the street from this place for 3 years now and have never been in until last week.  This place is Old School, it's a nice place to bring mom & pop to or even grandma and grandpa. When you walk into this place, it's kind of stepping back into time.  In fact as my group and I were leaving, we noticed we were probably the youngest faces in this place.

It's not the most exciting venue for happy hour drinks, but if you're looking for a quite evening with friends for food and drinks, then this is the place.

I ordered the Sirloin Steak Sandwich, which was quite delish, but small. So eat some appetizers if you go for this meal. The burgers and prime rib I saw on other people's plates looked very tasty and very much bigger than the tiny sirloin steak sandwich.  Will def try a burger the next time I'm in.

Overall it's a good place, if it wasnt' so close to my job, I doubt I will go out of my way to get to, but since it is down the street from me, I wouldn't mind going back in.

I've been here twice now to eat since it's close to my friends place in Chicago and was surprised by the food at a pub. You gotta love an old school place that sticks true to its guns with the menu, decor and service. I haven't had a chance to sample much from the menu except for the pulled pork sandwich, which is definitely in the rotation in my future trips to the windy city... if my heart can take it! The accompanying cole slaw was also very good, but what's up with a slice of watermelon coming with the pulled pork sandwich and none of the others? I've tried my friends prime rib and steak open faced sandwiches and they were also very good.

Love Miller's Pub. It holds such good memories for me and for my family.
Over the years my mom and I would come here for lunch after Christmas shopping at Marshall Fields, going to the Christkindl market or after seeing The Christmas Carol play. This place oozes coziness in every facet of it's wooden trim and beautiful windows. The food is comforting (see hot turkey sandwich and mashed potatoes) and very good. We came here with the whole family last year around the holidays and though we are a small group, all eight of us found something we could live with and enjoy. A big triumph not so much for me mind you, but for the picky eaters of my brood.
For me, this place will always be synonymous with family, holidays and fond memories.

Perfect place to take an out of town guest to show off Chicago. Fabulous Manhattans (my fave cocktail), great service. A really cool atmosphere that makes you feel it's 1948 and you're in the post war era. Love it!

Though I truly DO prefer diner food in the wee hours of the night after consuming beers with high alcohol content, an ill-advised vodka + soda and a random Amstel Light to finish....Miller's Pub appeared like a mirage in the dessert. FOOD, stat. Amen.

Of course, since this was my treat...my baby brother opted for the most expensive item on the menu: Surf 'n Turf...which was a pretty loaded plate, I'll give him that. Top that with a Blue Velvet martini (wow, is this kid for real!?) and he was much happier then when he arrived in Chicago...so, I believe this was a worthwhile expenditure.

For me? A grilled chicken sandwich, french fries, a Diet Coke and salad. Perfect...and it almost made me forget the terrifyingly bad meal I had at Au Bon Pain earlier in the day (blech). All fresh off the grill, and nothing that had perched under a "warmer" of any sort, for any length of time.

DC: 3 stars, average carbonation and served in a glass.

Old school charm, great service (even at midnight on a Tuesday) and a meal to kickstart my brother. Best option for late night grub in the loopty loop, for sure.

*bonus that Kevbo got carded, and then she guessed he was 30 (he's 23). Take THAT for draining my bank account, bub!

I work right across the street from Miller's, so it's a nice place to go after work.  I know my co-workers rave about the Fish n Chips, but I got the Mediterranean Spread (hummus & tzatziki with olives and cheese and toasted pita) one time, and a greek feta cheese omelette the next time. The omelette was nothing special, but the mediterranean spread was delicious.

There are plenty of tables, but the bartender upstairs is very nice. It's great to sit at the bar while having drinks and eating and watching the tv that's up there.

Went here for my birthday over the summer.  I got the Mediterranean burger, which unfortunately came out moo-ing (I asked for medium-rare and it definitely came out oozing blood instead).  They offered to make me a new one from scratch, which I appreciated, but just asked them to zap it for me because we had waited quite some time for the food already.  When they brought it back to me they brought me another plate of the feta cheese as an apology.  Nothing off my bill though.

The food was good, the servers were polite, but the cooks are slow.

Because I obviously needed more proof that I've lost my mind, I did a fun run the other night.  Yup, ran 3 miles (ok, walked part of it) just for the hell of it.  Or because I like a boy who runs.  Or because my roommate made me... whatever.

Afterwards, 4 fun runners needed dinner.  On the suggestion of my pal Harvey, after several failed ideas, we ended up here at this hybrid of old steak house, pub, hunting lodge.  Two thumbs up for Harvey and his dinner choice.

Feeling in need of iron, but also only having a $20, I stumbled upon the secret to getting insanely cheap prime rib.  The $12.75 prime rib open sandwich.  8oz of awesome meat, comes with au jus and mashed potatoes.  Just throw that soggy slice of bread away, and voila, prime rib dinner.  The rolls were good, Rachel W's taco salad was monstrous and full of sweat inducing jalapenos, and our desserts were tasty.  The most hilarious part of the evening was watching our other two partners in crime order the smoked butt.  Yup, I'm in 7th grade.  I also said butt.  Two of my friends said butt to a waitress.  BUTT.

Actually, I take that back.. the most hilarious part of the evening was eating our dinner under the watchful eyes of a signed (by signed i mean typed with his name) 8"x10" glossy of Peter Francis Geraci.

I shall return, only if I get to sit by Peter Francis Geraci again.

My visit to Miller's pub was over a year ago but the recollection of my experience is still pretty clear. In short, it was good but not great.

This place is old school. It screams Chicago history, with leather seated booths throughout most of the dining area and wood paneling on every wall. Pictures of Chicagoans past liter the walls, many of which I would guess were businessmen and politicians. Two minutes in the place and I felt like smoking a cigar.

The menu had a wide assortment of food but desserts were lacking. Lots of meat and potatoes and the usual fare one would find in these old-school places. It also had a few offerings of seafood.

My meal was good and satisfying. My waitress was competent but her energy level was pretty bad. Lunchtime was pretty crowded, so I could understand.

In short, Miller's pub has good food at okay prices. The thing is, I think this is the kind old-school kind of place that found its groove and is comfortable with what it is. I bet that menu is not changed in 50 years.

Miller's pub does everything good but nothing great. And, that is okay. You got a problem with that!!

Here's a tip, if there is a long wait to be seated, head on over to the bar, you can sometimes get in and sit at the bar for lunch or dinner with little wait. I came here for lunch with a friend and was pleasantly surprised. Drinks were made pretty strong and my ruben was huge! I was stuffed after a few bites.

I have to say, bartenders here are fantastic. They have been there for years and it shows!

My wife, the vegetarian was bugging me pick a place where I could eat meat so I picked this based on the marquee promoting $13 prime rib.

I decided I was a little hungier than the open face sandwich that and went for the $23 meal.  It was good but not great.  The carrots were a little too soggy and institutional-like for my taste.  The mashed potatoes and gravy were devine.  The meat itself was solid but not spectacular.  It was a good size (14 oz) but the flavor seemed to be missing something.

We came at around 8pm and were seated quickly.  Our service was good.

Stopped by with some coworkers to get a couple of beers after work and, of course, the place was crammed with people that were likely bamboozled by a double-talking street hawker or getting their comeuppance for swiping that seemingly innocent monkey paw from that band of Loop-dwelling Romany. No joke. No one of sound mind and able body would CHOOSE to buy their ale at Miller's Pub. Say what you will about the moral fabric of America but the woof and warp of said fabric hasn't come so loose that a person of reasonable stock would knowingly waste their scratch here, right? RIGHT?!?

I guess it kinda reeks of history. The smattering of Chicago sports stars from bygone eras behind the bar and the tribute to Bill Veeck would lead you to believe that Miller's Pub was once a Chicago institution. If that was indeed the case then it's definitely resting on its laurels now, and, frankly, it could use a kick in the seat to stay remotely palatable. Even the bartenders look like relics from the days of Richard J. Daley, and one could be forgiven for thinking that the clout gravy train is the only think keeping these gentlemen employed.

I paid too much for a couple of nondescript beers and cocktails (this much I expected!), was met with a scowl from the bartender after asking to pick up my friend's tab, and promptly left after guzzling my drink. This drinking outing wasn't egregiously offensive so much as it was egregiously plain: It could've happened in Truckee, Milwaukee, Kentucky, or one of those bland amusement park restaurants. Not saying I wanted Al Capone to waltz with Mrs. O'Leary while serving me Goose Island or anything, but I expected more from a local landmark.

I was in town for a meeting and stayed just down the street.  Miller's looked interesting and a few colleagues I hadn't seen for awhile and I stopped in here for dinner Monday night.  The service was excellent old-school Chicago.  We were greeted as we walked in the door, a table was found immediately.  The waiter quickly got our drinks.  They pour a decent pint of Guinness.  I wasn't adventurous at all and ordered fish & chips, which were very good albeit not the best I've ever had.  We were so busy talking I didn't really notice what my companions ordered, but they seemed happy.  If I lived or worked in downtown Chicago I think this would be a regular stop for me.  The place just felt nicely worn and very comfortable--just as a good pub should feel.

I had high hopes for this place. Maybe this place has great ribs and steak? Maybe I should have ordered that rather than the famous greek salad? Maybe.....

I ordered the crab cakes.  It was pretty expensive for one....$7.95. After digging into the first few bites, I thought it was pretty delicious (with the sauce). Then I found chunks of imitation crab mixed in with real crab meat. Wow, how disappointing. Its not all real!

The menu listed the greek salad as "Our Famous greek salad". I thought "It's gotta be good! Its famous!"  In reality, it was a disaapointment. A whole bunch of lettuce, tomato, feta cheese and olives I dont like (I like the sweet black ones, not the bitter black ones). The best part of the salad was the dressing. I think the greek salad at Dominic's tasted so much better than this!

I did have a taste of the cheeseburger. To my surprise it was delicious!! The meat was tender and sweet! One of the better burgers I've ever had!

The food was a little disappointing but the service was great. Our drinks were constantly flowing.  The atmosphere of the bar was really comfortable as well. TV's all around and the noise level was not very loud. I would come back here again and try either the burger or the ribs.

Stopped in here before Lolla for lunch and a couple of drinks. The place was slammed and that was to be expected. Yet, the hostess was still really friendly and had a smile on her face. After deciding to wait for a table we got lucky and got a spot at the bar. Our bartender was the nicest guy possible and he made our drinks strong. I ordered the fish fillet sandwich thing which basically looked like the frozen breaded Van de Kamp fish fillets on a bun. I loved it! It was not greasy at all like a lot of fried fish can be. The cole slaw was amazing and the fries were just as amazing.

I really can't wait to go back, open faced meat loaf sandwich is my next meal choice and it's calling me.

I've been coming here for 15 years and pretty much always order a full slab of Canadian ribs with fries with a Greek salad to start. The dish usually comes with a waterlogged corn cob which goes back to the kitchen. Veggies get a good hard boiling so don't be looking for elegant flavor profiles.

This meal and the big pint of Guinness that precedes it comes to the table fast as the waitstaff are pros and don't mess up your orders or get confused . The busboys are also quick to remove used plates so you don't have to stare at the carnage while conversing.

The ribs keep me coming back when I am in the mood for pub food and Miller's is within walking distance. I can put up with the crowding and the resultant din for the reliable grub and the price is fair.

My dining partner swears by (and always orders) the deep fried chicken and I have had the liver and onions which was good but drowning in au jus which can lead to some splashing. I don't think I would dream of ordering a steak here -save that for Ruth's Chris or Gibson's nor Mexican food...but simply prepared basic dishes with limp fries or a baked potato are probably a safe bet. Don't expect steamed vegetables though or any artsy plating techniques. I think the sommelier and the butter captain were let go a while back.

Decent hot food, fair price and fast service are their strengths. Tables turn fast so long waits are unlikely.

Suddenly I fancy some ribs....

It's been here for 70 years - I guess they've got their niche figured out.

I'm a newbie - only been stopping by Miller's Pub for 40 years. Good beer, solid menu, great burgers, efficient service. There's nothing special about the place, and it's a bit worn. But you can't beat the location if you want a casual place to meet with lots of beef on the menu. All the standard goes-well-with-beer appetizers too. So if the décor hasn't kept up with the trends, at least the menu has.

Pretty good beef tenderloin tips over buttered noodles - I would have liked more buttered noodles, though. The highlight of my meal here, however, was their Spanakopita (a flaky pastry with spinach and feta cheese). It was pretty much perfection - they offer both an appetizer version and an entree sized version.

They say on the menu that they don't refill drinks, but they didn't have a problem refilling my coke. I guess it depends on what night you go.

i really love this place because the food is classic and homemade tasting and the service is always great (some real characters.)

maybe i am just a sucker for an old school supper club feel, but it's one of my favorites. i love the prime rib sandwich and the mediterranean spread. yum.

sometimes i even come in and just drink at the bar because the bartenders are so nice and it's a interesting mixed crowd.

i have had a dozen positive experiences here, easily. one time i ordered the prime rib, and they came to the table to tell me they were actually out. it was a bummer. but the manager came over to the table, apologized, bought us a round of cocktails and said he would try to at least get me an end cut, which he did. that was really classy and cool. thanks again.

I like Miller's because I can get in and out of the place within an hour and still get a decent meal for a reasonable price.  I've been several times and always find the servers very friendly and helpful (and usually a bit persuasive as to my menu choices).

The food is standard pub fare, but the burgers are juicy, the fish done perfectly and the salads just the way they should be.  As others have said here, it's not a run out into the street screaming because the food is amazing, it's a solid reliable pub with food that will fill you up and leave a good taste in your mouth.

Miller's is also good for drinks at happy hour (I don't think there's a special per se, more just between 4-6 pm).  It gets crowded, but so does every other bar in the area.  If you don't like rubbing elbows and shoulders with people, you probably shouldn't go to a bar.

Overall a keeper and you'll likely find me here again and again.

Yes the food isn't exactly spectacular (which may rule it out as a destination spot).  But, as it's been said in review after review, this place oozes Chicago.  I have fond memories of it at various stages in my life, and I always enjoy going back.  It makes a particularly nice follow up to catching an exhibit at the Art Institute, some weekend shopping, or a concert at the CSO.  And its coziness makes it a nice, warm hideaway in the winter months.

Avoid the steak.

Miller's probably has the worst steak that I've had in Chicago. It wasn't cooked right, and had a lot of tendons. The pita and hummus appetizer was good, but the Greek salad wasn't really Greek. Even though it's "convenient" because it's open late, you should really try something else if you have an option.

Oh, Millers. Why so stingy with the tables?!

If you're heading to this place for a drink, then don't expect to sit down. Of the three times I've stopped into Millers for a drink, I've been denied a table.

During my first two visits, I thought all the booths in the bar were reserved for someone special, like a party or a reservation (since table tents were propped up on each available table with the word "Reserved" on them)... but during my last visit, I found that I was wrong. My girls and I were eyeing the people in these booths as they finishing their meal, ready to snag a booth at a moment's notice. But before we could squeeze in the booth, the bus boys would leave behind one of these table tents upon wiping them down. WTF?!

It's about midnight at this point, so I head up to the hostess stand and ask if we can sit at a table in the restaurant. The host tells us that we can't sit down unless we are going to eat something. I look around the restaurant and I spot 5 booths open in the bar area and about 90% of the entire dining room is free. All while the bar is packed. And you're telling me you can't give up one of these tables?

Millers, I love your burgers, but I hate your table hoarding ways!

So after I came running out of Potter's we decided to grab a bite at Miller's.. talk about going from one extreme to the other. Miller's Pub is the kind of bar (breaks out into a song) Where everybody knows your name, (piano, piano, piano) and they're always glad you came. You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same. You wanna be where everybody knows. Your name. It really is a a larger version of Cheers, wood paneling everywhere and people looking a little homely but friendly. The kind of place that any celebrity and their momma that has been there has a picture of themselves on the walls. What really stood out for me was the stained glass, they actually had food designed into them with two wavy lines to imply that it's hot.

The place is a mess of people, it's crowded to the point that servers are on top of each other all the time. You really have to give the folks that work here a lot of credit, I wouldn't have the patience.

The food is the kind that sticks to your ribs, some a little greasy, some a little healthy (hummus platter), but you will find something you like on their huge menu. It kind of reminds me of suburb food but just a step up. I mind these kinds of places because you can always find some comfort food. I'd go back, you can people watch all day.

Prices to be expected for a pub in downtown Chicago, where almost every other form of food and beverage establishment closes relatively early.

They carry a wide selection of meals ranging from your burgers to pasta and the whole nine yards. A little bit of everything.

Last I was there, I was surprised to my delight when I ordered the onion rings. They really meant "Tower of Onion Rings" when behold... a metal frame to which piles of onion rings were added upon. Imagine a paper towel holder if you will, only replace the towel with a shit load of delicious onion rings.

The cajun chicken alfredo i had ordered was quite delicious, and the serving was more than I could chew.

Definitely worth a stop.

Service - Friendly

Ambiance - Dark, homey feel, sports crazed fans and tv's within view everywhere.

Food - Left to be desired.
1. Feta Cheese and Greek Olives - Just as it sounds.
2. Prime N.Y. Cut Sirloin (8 oz.) with Onion Rings, Hashbrowns and Side Salad - Looked decent but didn't try.  Onion rings were huge and crispy.  Hashbrowns triangles look like it was cut from a tray.  Dense and dry.  Side salad was your typical iceberg mix.
3. Prime Rib - Dry and not very flavorful.  Comes with au jus and creamy horseradish.
4. Greek Burger - Good oregano flavor and chunks of feta.  I made the mistake of ordering it medium but still, it was over cooked and super dry.

I know the votes vary for this place but I am a fan.  Good solid food and the waitstaff has always been attentive and friendly.  The first time I went I had ordered the trout almondine.  For a pub to be serving fish I didn't get my hopes up but I was so glad I ordered it. The fish was cooked very well without being overdone and was reasonably priced given the portion I received.

Each and every time I have gone the food has been well prepared and fresh.  if you want a place for a pint or a meal inside the loop this is the place for you.

My boyfriend and I decided to check out this place because it was within walking distance from our new place downtown and we wanted to watch the bball playoff game that was on.

We decided to sit in the bar which did have nice big screen TVs, but the bartender's service left much to be desired.  He looked like he came from the crypt and couldn't find his job more boring. We both immediately ordered beers but that didn't seem to help.

We ordered the calamari, which was not great.  My boyfriend asked the bartender if the calamari was fried crispy and he responded rudely that all calamari was deep fried (actually its not dude).  We ordered it anyways but didnt end up eating much of it.

I ordered the crab cakes.  They tasted good but weren't very crispy on the outside which I really like.  The bf had a burger which he didn't like at all.  He said the patty looked really juicy but the blue cheese they melted on top of it was nasty.

All in all, my Stella was good and the basketball was good, but I don''t think we'll be coming back here.

MIller's pub is the quintessential loop-area dinner destination for the diner that wants a "taste of Chicago" that's full of history and heritage without many (or actually, any) frills.  It's good - not "OH MY GOSH THE FOOD WAS DROP DEAD AMAZING", but you'll probably be enjoying the drinks, photos, stories, and staff anyways - so don't let that deter you.

It's a Pub, folks, and a darn good one at that. For a Pub in the heart of the business district, Miller's is a fascinating and enjoyable destination.

Go. Make it a priority, and drink plenty of Goose Island 312 whle you're there.

Ok, so it's basically a glorified Greek diner - the food is solid, the service is great, and the prices are reasonable.  What I love about this place is the clubby atmosphere - dark wood paneling, private booths etc.   This place has been here since long before I was born, and it still thrives.  It's the Chicago I remember from childhood in the 70's, with one very positive exception: we had a black waitress, which is not something you would have encountered in a downtown restaurant back in the day -- the good paying waiter jobs were strictly "whites only".  Enny-way, like I said, the food is solid -- although my girlfriend said the coffee was awful. That didn't bother her, though, because they didn't charge us for it.

So, came here for a drink date and it was acceptable. At first we were told that if we weren't eating we couldn't sit at a table but then the manager came over and sat us at a very small intimate booth that was perfect for the occasion! One of my drinks was perfect and the rest were on the weak side. But my date ordered a Jameson on the rocks and it was the same size and price of mine!! Alcohol to the brim... I would go here again though. I didn't eat but the bbq smelled amazing.

As a friend said, I'm venturing in to old man territory.  I was caught wearing a Fedora, albeit a Quicksilver version of, listening to Rachmaninoff, going to the butcher and recently began eating organ meats, which proved good for this restaurant selection.  I had the young steer liver, loaded with bacon and onions and a Honkers Ale to wash it down.  The servers are the white shirt and black tie, and were very nice; not once looking down at me for looking young.  They seemed honestly happy to seat me and quickly at that.  The food was quick to arrive and in sizable portions.  It was decent food; nothing to scream about but they treated me right.  Some things don't go out of style.  I will probably take visitors here because Bennigan's, Potbelly and the like won't help them get a feel of the city when over in these parts of the city.

The prices are very cheap for a full service restaurant; like $8 sandwich territory which is pretty much as cheap as Applebee's.  Some of the entrees where more around the $15 range.

4 stars for no drama, good service, classic style.

best ribs in the city next to my own.  I love this place, its cheap and amazing, sure they are busy and the service sort of blows if you get sat in the bar.  You are better off in the dining room or actually sitting at the bar.  But the owners are great, the sauce is legendary, its the opposite of the dark sweet baby rays which i think blows.  Wife who is a vegetarian likes the hummus plate and the salads.  I know the twin anchors is great too but for me it's millers by a nose.

This place has been here a WHILE.  But it is so comfortable, familiar, and old-time Chicago feeling.
What to Expect-  Large menu, large portions, lots of seating- yet full, good service, large bar crowd in the evening, yummy burgers, meats, sandwiches, family friendly (until later night), convenient location under the el.  This place is kind of family restaurant-y, kind of pub-y, kind of dine-y, and kind of bar-ish.  But it's casual and fun and prices are reasonable.  Entrees all under $20, most under $10.

I'm an old softie for Miller's Pub. It is truly a Chicago institution and I've been eating here (both locations) since I was a kid.

This was the spot where my parents would take us after seeing a play at the Schubert Theater, or going to an event at Orchestra Hall. I even met and got Bill Veeck's autograph here when I was a kid.

Then, as now, I've always had fabulous food and outstanding service in a comfortable atmosphere.

You are doing yourself a disservice if you come here and don't order ribs. Even the rib appetizer is enough to fill you up and have you licking your fingers, even if you're on a date. The prime rib is great. The soups are great. The Greek salad is yum yum. The fish is always fresh and good.

I always leave here stuffed...and sometimes I leave here a little tipsy. The Martinis are old-school, which is to say strong. There's a great variety of beer on tap. And the best thing is that you can eat and drink late - past 2 a.m.

Be aware that this is not a five-star review like a Charlie Trotter's or Alinea five-star review. You're not going to get a lot of "innovation" here. What you will get is the owners greeting you at the door and taking you to your table, a server who's been there forever and will always give you a great recommendation, and classic "American" food that is consistently good.
