After passing the Richmond Plunge (http://www.richmondplu...) and zipping through the tunnel you are right there. Another fabulous Richmond secret!!!

I used to hide out here during college when I didn't want to go to class. I would sit and stare at the Bay and try to remember why I was working two jobs to go to school. The views would always remind me.

The park area has free space for picnics, games, and just running around with friends or pups. I have never ever found it crowded and the views are great!

What a lovely sprawling gem of a park. You can check out quaint seaside Pt. Richmond and then come here for some picnicking and/or bbqing. We brought the pup here who enjoyed the sunshine and the nearby Keller beach. (Although, officially, there are no dogs allowed on the beach, there were still a few romping around).

Anyway, there were lots of families enjoying time out on the sunshine, and a saxophonist who sat on a rock providing lovely live jazz music.

We are HUGE fans of this park.  Located through the tunnel in Pt. Richmond and just past Keller Beach.

We have had no less than 8 picnic get-to-gathers here.  There are several large picnic areas.  We usually go early and stake out some tables, although you can reserve areas for a slightly hefty fee.

THIS PARK HAS EVERYTHING:

Large and small picnic areas.
Large expanses of grass for running and lounging.
Shady and sunny areas.
A playground for the kids.
Accessible bathrooms.
Lots of FREE parking!
A little pond with ducks, coots and those Canada Geese
(who probably have not been further north than Pinole)
Paths and trails for walking and kid biking and skating.
Nice weather

And it's a block away from the Golden State Model Railroad Museum.

This place really is a "best-kept secret" I have been here many a gorgeous day and it's never crowded. Plenty of parking, picnic facilities (including bar-b-q grills) flush toilet,  trails going all over the place. Fishing, kite flying, waterfowl watching, and the model train museum, which I have yet to see. The views here are stupendous. Kinda tricky to find, but a world away! Check it out!!!

It was one of the hotter days in the bay area and my friends and I were figuring out where's the best place for a BBQ/picnic.

We originally thought Tilden Park by the Little Farm, but didn't think the view to interesting without some degree of hiking and the picnic tables face the parking lot.

So, happy to go to the Miller Knox Regional Park.   It was not crowded.  There were families and group catered picnic-ers.  The breeze and the shade from the trees were welcome.  The flush toilets as well as the water fountain was nearby.   It felt luxurious and perfect for our friends to gather.

We will be sure to come back!!!

I like this park. It's near my house, and there usually isn't many people.

Yesterday, we found a trail going up the mountain. It was very peacful and you could choose different routes that take you to a different part of the mountain. Missy (our dog) really enjoyed it. It got my heart pumping. Dogs are allowed off leash on the trails.

One thing that annoys me though is off-leash dogs. This park is specifically leash only. And most of the off-leash dogs, are not trained and under voice command. Yesterday, I had to wait at a distance until the owner got the hint and leashed up her wild dog. It started growling and barking at Missy as we pass. If that dog had not been leashed it would have attacked Missy. Obey the Leash law.

There are no dogs allowed on Keller Beach, which is fine since the park is so big. We walk around for hours, just looping around.

Don't go to close to the Lagoon, there's a lot of bird poop in the grass...I mean a lot. I usually just stick to the path, and sit down on the many benches. It's very peaceful.

You go through a tunnel in Richmond that is kinda spooky then you pop out at this area that has a lot of grass and people are picnicing all over the place.

An ok hang out place in Richmond.  I spent one 4th of July here and my friends and I partied pretty hard.

Check it out one day if you are in the area.  Nothing fantastic.  An ok place to explore.

Miller Knox park is divided by the road into "off-leash" and "leashed dogs only" areas.  Everything on the non-developed side of the road (east of Dornan Drive - where the hill climbs up fairly steeply) is officially "off-leash."

As someone who lives nearby, doesn't have a yard and has a high-energy dog, this off-leash area is a god-send.  It gets very muddy during the rainy season, so wear your serious 'muck' shoes and get ready for some climbing, and then enjoy a killer view of Marin's Mt Tamalpais, stretching clear over to San Francisco.  Just beautiful!

As a long time resident of Richmond, I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised about Miller Knox. Today was an absolutely gorgeous day to take my little puppy out for a stroll here. The area is nice and clean. Lots of picnic tables and room to chill on the many benches located around the park. There was even a flushing toilet. There's a marshy area surrounded by geese. We even saw the little baby geese making their way to the water - so frickin cute! People like to give Richmond a bad rap but we've got some really cool places here. This park definitely being one of them.

As far as I'm concerned this is a true diamond in the rough. Rarely have I seen many people here...but what a great location to either...be alone and read, think or bring your SO or family. The views are great, the parking is easy. As a bonus you are just a few feet away from the Bay Area Train museum which is fantastic for little or big people.
