With all the negative feedback from this hotel on other websites I was kinda scared, but all in all it was not that bad at all. My wife and I stayed in the North Tower and the rooms were smaller than I thought but the people that worked at the hotel we really nice. We had to go to the Stadium for a tour in the afternoon and it was raining and the valet guy even let us borrow an umbrella to use. Which he didn't have to do. The bartender at the Martini Bar was really cool and the hotel had great views of the arch. The breakfast in the 4th street grill was better than expected and the service there was great as well. Yes it was an older hotel but with my wife and I being travel agents, we always give hotels a chance and this one worked out.

Peace Out

I went to a conference here, but since I'm from here, I didn't have to stay.  Thank GOD.
I can't really review the rooms (though I heard they were atrocious).
There is absolutely no reason why I should pay 5 dollars for a piece of turkey and a piece of cheese on a stale bun at their cash food bar - but I did because I didn't have time to trek to Jimmy John's.

You'll have to pay for parking (EVEN IF YOU ARE STAYING IN THE HOTEL) and that will run you $18.00 a day.  Unless you take advantage of the $5.00 early bird special (something like in before 9 and out before 5) or if the parking attendant has mercy on you when the automated pay machine is broken and he lets you STEAL parking.  Okay, it gets two stars now, because that was pretty sweet.

The hotel bar is expensive and laughable.

The entire place needs badly to be renovated and redone.  It's outdated and kind of dirty.  The rooms we had for the conference weren't nearly as big as we needed for the size of our group - really that's more the conference's problem, but I just feel it isn't equipped to run any big conferences in general.

And somehow, The Top of the Riverfront restaurant wins awards every year.  Your carpet is COVERED in grime...how do you have a 5 Star Restaurant?

I am just SO glad I didn't have to sleep there.  *cringe*

The hotel bar proved to have some of the slowest service I have ever encountered - the waitress was real nice, I wanted to like her, but she was dreadfully slow!

The drinks are very pricey. Martinis are $11 and up....

OMG, what a DIVE!

We were just there for a convention and as wonderful as the convention was, the hotel was awful!

There were a ton of cars pulling in to get unloaded when we arrived. It seemed that the parking garage for the hotel had filled up and the bell men were sending the cars to the lot across the street. However, you had to first check in and get your parking pass before going to the garage or else you would be charged the garage rate.

The bell man would not let you stop there, check in and get your parking pass. There was no where else to go and they were extremely rude.

I went to check in while my husband had to circle the block in baseball traffic waiting for me to return with the parking pass.

There was a sign saying, we do not accept debit or bank credit cards. What? Both my debit and bank credit card have the visa logo on them. They are, for all purposes, credit cards. They allowed me to make the reservation with my debit card. The receptionist, obliviously tired of hearing that it's asinine not to take debit cards, told me to go to a cash station to get money to pay for the hotel.

I told her no. That she was going to take a check. Which of course she did. I then told her that it should have been printed in big red letters on the top of my confirmation email that they do not take debit or bank credit cards. She acted as if I was the millionth person to complain about this. If I'm the millionth, then fix it!

Finally, we get checked in and get the car put away, and head up to our room.

The elevators do not have ac. It was 95 degrees out. The elevators are slow, filled up quickly, and had no ac. They were so uncomfortable that we tried to take the stairs. That was even worse. There was no air movement in there.

We got to our room. It was clean, for the most part. If anyone from the Millennium Hotel is reading this, installing a light up vanity in the bathroom was a horrible idea. When a towel was tossed on the vanity, you could see how dirty it actually was. It was disgusting.

The bed was horrible. We were there for 3 nights and I didn't sleep well at all. Everyone in our convention complained about how uncomfortable the beds were.

The shower, God, the shower. I couldn't even catch a break with a decent shower. It would sputter.

Ice and soda was only available on 2 floors and if you got there too late there was nothing left for you.

The service at the bar was horrible and slow. We only ate once at the restaurant and found it over priced and dirty.

As part of our convention, there was a show and sale that was open to the public. Or at least it should have been open to the public. The hotel staff turned people away telling them that the event was not open to the public or that our organization was not even in the hotel.

Then there was the incident. I had noticed that the hotel security that they had provided our organization was more about talking on the phone than making sure that no one walked away with one of members property. Which was exactly what someone did. The property was eventually returned to it's owner, but that does not make up for the lack of security.

I would never recommend this hotel to anyone, at any time, for any reason.

3 stars for the hotel. Really nice staff, not busy (maybe because of it being winter time). Parking was across the street and easy access. I declined valet.

-1 Star for the room. I liked how the bathroom was really well lit, but the lights they use make you look weird while applying make-up so I sat next to the window. Great view of the arch, but it was awful that I had the heater on 90 and it was still freezing in the room.

1 Star for the great room service. I had the rib eye steak and Louie sandwich ( don't remember whats in the Louie), but was very good.

The only reason the Millennium gets two stars (instead of just one) is because we got it for pretty cheap.  Then again, after we checked in, we knew why.

The front desk staff was clearly having a rough day.  While I stood there I saw four different people come up and lay into them.  It seems we weren't the only people who felt the Millennium couldn't do anything right.  Complaints ranged from mysterious, inappropriate charges being added to bills to staff failing to come through on various requests.  Our biggest issue was that the front desk refused to allow my husband to check in because the room was in my name (our last name is the same and the room was booked on a joint credit card that he had with him).  Instead of offering a solution, the manager suggested my husband call our travel agent (um, what?  we didn't book this with an agent!) and have them straighten it out because there was no way they were letting him into the room.  When I was able to drop what I was doing and come over there, they carded me before they'd let me check in.

Among the other issues:
The garage was a nightmare thanks to the Cardinals game, and parking was pricey at $18/day.  After all the hassle at the front desk we finally got up to our room to find that our key cards didn't even work.  The room was tiny, old and had nothing but the most basic furnishings.  The bathroom was only slightly bigger than the closet.  And because the indoor pool is located in the center of the circular south wing, there are screaming children right outside your door all the time.

The only positive comment the Millennium gets is the exceptional service we got from Larry the bellman.  That guy understands customer service and did everything in his power to make our stay a little better.

As a St. Louis native who recently moved to California, I've had the opportunity to come home and stay at a couple downtown hotels for various weddings and events.  Do yourself a favor and book the Renaissance or the Crowne Plaza and don't waste a penny on this place.

Stayed here for four days in May 2005 for a conference, which was also at the hotel.  This is an older hotel that attempted a facelift with new furniture -- and it kinda works.  The wired access is free and good, but the wifi is spotty. There are very few choices for food within a 3-4 block radius, but the hotel food is decent.  Room rates are inexpensive here, but the next time I'm in St. Louis, I'll likely try out another hotel.
