Truly the best place to find gifts for baby or kids. Adorable clothes, unique toys, you will find something special here. I unfortunately can't leave without getting something cute for my daughter and/or son. The people who work here are also very nice and helpful.

I don't think anyone would mistake me for the knit-and-bitch type. Sitting on subway wearing black rimmed glasses and knitting blanket-shaped orange mohair poncho is not my style. But I do love cashmere, and I especially love wearing low cut sweaters. Contrast of soft wool and glimpse of flesh has never failed me.

This season, winning sweater source I found in Mill Valley boutique- small store with very discerning taste. So far I have made two trips here, and both sweaters have served me well, shall we say. So hold the mohair, please.

This boutique is split into 2 shops, children on the left and women on the right. The children's shop full of eye-catching clothing, accessories, and toys ranging from cutesy to cool. I often come here and find special gifts for friends' kids as well as stylish outfits for my little one. Not sure what to get for someone's 5th birthday? They'll put together the perfect goodie bag full of tchotchkes any child would love. There is lots and lots of merchandise, some tucked behind others, so take your time perusing those shelves and racks. You'll find favorites like Petit Bateau but they have other fun items like 'Mill Valley' logo caps. One of my favorite items is the hip Buddha t-shirt and onsie. A happy standing Buddha is printed on the front - available in lots of great colors and sizes start at 3 months. Great for those young style mavens.

Left side:
The most adorable baby and kids clothes. You will gawk at the prices, but you'll be so tempted to buy that shearling coat for your little nephew or the Buddah tee.

Right side:
Great women's clothing that carries a number of brands including Lucky, Sanctuary and AG jeans.

MV Mercantile has been frequented by many a celebrity, local like Andre Agassi and Hollywood stars like Rosario Dawson.

The store is family-owned and run by very sweet, helpful women.

This store may not be on the "main drag" of downtown Mill Valley, but it's not hard to find. It is located right next to the Sweetwater on Throckmorten Ave.
If you're in Mill Valley, surely don't pass this shop by!

Next  time you need a break from the city, head on across the Golden Gate and take a stroll in Mill Valley. Off the main square, you will find a women's boutique that makes shopping a joy. The buyers are the best. They must search high and low for such good quality items. The apparel I have from the Mercantile, lasts for years. It is hip without being tragically trendy. Lasting style should be their motto. Things in my closet from five years ago still look good and they are complemented by new finds. Another bonus is that the Mercantile has great sales. When things are marked down, they immediately reflect a 50% discount. None of this 15%, 20% or 30% tease that you will find at other stores. Lastly, their adjacent children's store has beautiful items both domestic and imported from France. They range in size from infant to teen. It is a great place to buy shower gifts that are something special. Shop it.
