I've stayed at the Mill Valley Inn twice now, once for business and, most recently, to celebrate my anniversary.  Both times the service and overall experience have been superb.  I'll concentrate on the most recent stay.  We arrived in town a little early and it was pouring rain.  We called and requested an early check-in and the woman who was working the front desk (whose name is unfortunately escaping me) could not have been nicer or more accommodating.  She didn't have our room ready quite yet, but she called a couple of times on our cell phones to update us on the status and then finally to tell us to come on over.  The room was cozy, well-decorated, and romantic, with a huge soaking tub and a wood-burning stove.  French doors led out to the balcony with a beautiful view of the village.  The hotel even placed a nice little split of wine in our room and a note thanking us for choosing to celebrate our anniversary with them.  All this for less than $200 a night.

We met the most interesting couple during the inn's complimentary wine reception, which they do nightly.  It's always so much fun to talk to strangers when we travel!  These people were best-selling self-help authors, and very cool.  That's the kind of clientelle you'll find here.

The hotel is walking-distance to everything in the village.  It was raining, but the front desk had plenty of umbrellas to loan out.  After we checked out the next day, they even allowed us to keep our car parked in their lot for a couple of hours while we went out for lunch.  Truly wonderful service.  We will be back soon!

The rooms are very cute and eventhough the hotel is already about 10 years old,it seems new!  Also the breakfast is great, and the Wine hour is a wonderful idea.  So far, my stay has been great!
Why only 4 stars?  some music in the breakfast area would be chill, it's just too quiet, kind of awkward...

Super, duper cute place in the heart of MV.  Sweet service, cute rooms, good amenities.  The woodsy atmosphere felt like we were off the beaten track but it's not far from the freeway and made for an easy drive into SF.  A great place to get away from it all and have access to just about everything.

Great place. A little pricey but its worth it if not for the location alone.

If you are lucky you will get Billy Stafford running the front desk. Very helpful.

Last winter , when the big storm knocked out all the power in my neighborhood in MV for 3 1/2 days, I ended up checking in to the Mill Valley Inn. It was a very pleasant surprise. The lady at the desk was very helpful and confessed that the electricity had just come back on in the hotel and she hoped it would stay on.
The room was spacious and had a fireplace,...just what the doctor ordered! A nice bathroom with all the products you could ever need. And just across the street from the 142 Throckmorton Theater, a great place for music and comedy. Recomended.

A-mazing hotel walking distance from the heart of Mill Valley. What a great little place! I stayed here for one night with my Dad this past Monday, and we had a great suite. I had the pullout couch bed which was very comfortable. There was a sliding door that separated the bedroom from the living room. Temperature was great, room was nice and quiet, huge balcony with beautiful views of the forest and hillside. I would love to come back here and spend some more time.

The hotel room, location, staff, breakfast, were all really great - the only reason it gets 3 stars from me was because of the noise.  There was a party in the conference room right beneath our room and they were loud until 1 in the morning... no sleep that night!

Very cool / interesting small but clean and crisp upscale low-rise bed and breakfast hotel in downtown Mill Valley, a door or two down from the legendary Sweetwater.  The develoepr designed it himself and it's quite sweet architecturally.  Fireplaces and a great communal breakfast room, some cabins out back by the creek,  but no hot tub.  Easy wealk to everything.  Perfect for an unplanned romantic overnighter if your house is too messy to bear.

Cute little place if you just want some quiet time.  It has the feel of a French Quarters court yard.  I stayed in the penthouse suite with modern decorations and Aveda products in the bathroom (Yesssss!)  The bathtub is huge and enclosed with a glass wall and door.  It is so big it looks like a separate room.  The deck is spacious and wraps around all the way to a private entrance to the suite.  Perfect for a party with friends, this deck cries out for wine, cheese and jazz music on a perfect night.  The price is reasonable and the service is wonderful.  This is the perfect getaway without really going too far out of town.  It is a few doors down from Sweetwater club so there's plenty to see and do in the area.

My husband and I just celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary at the Mill Valley Inn, and I couldn't recommend it more highly.  Tucked up and away behind a blink-and-you-miss-it facade in the heart of charming downtown Mill Valley is a sophisticated but not glitzy or overdone boutique hotel that somehow manages to get everything just right.  Each staff member we encountered seemed genuinely happy to be there, and all were exceptionally friendly and helpful.  When we arrived at our balcony king room overlooking the redwoods, waiting for us was a half bottle of Sonoma Cutrer chardonnay, a sweet bouquet of flowers, and a hand written anniversary card.  The room itself was understated luxe - velvet chaise, down comforter, wood stove (which was the only downside - log was too damp to use, and stove needed a good cleaning), beautiful iron bed, separate soaking tub and shower, usable semi-private balcony shaded by a clematis-festooned arbor, and more.  I must add that every nook and cranny was scrupulously clean, and the room was incredibly quiet (no one above or below us).  Included in the room rate: a hot and delicious morning strata, espresso drinks made to order, a wide assortment of continental breakfast offerings, wine in the afternoon, and a daily Chronicle newspaper, even on Sunday.  Very impressive.  Add to all of that the lovely MV location and the stunningly gorgeous half hour drive to Muir Woods and the coast, and you have nothing short of weekend getaway perfection.
