Review from Frank D.
Suffolk, NY
Mill Pond House is an awesome place to go. The view is great and the food is better. The lobster Mac & Cheese is not your normal mac and cheese. Made with tasso ham & smoked gouda, I could eat this for days. For my entree I had the seafood paella. Mussels, Calamari, Clams, in a sauce that is near perfect for me, perfection was adding Tabasco. The service was great, love the piano player, and that view rocks.

Stellar food and service. I am never disappointed when dining here. One of my favorite's is the shrimp scampi, very large shrimp in a delicate butter sauce over rice. I've also enjoyed the steak, porterhouse for two is my other favorite when I am sharing dinner. The apple crisp as well as the homemade carrot cake are sinful, a great ending to any meal here.

Northport, NY
Although the location is convenient and scenic, the food leaves much to be desired. I came with a large group of people celebrating a birthday, and the service, although understandably slower, was rather disappointing. The food was nothing worth commenting on, I found it boring and uninspiring. Still, it is one of the busiest restaurants in the area.

My parents and I went here for Thanksgiving. The restaurant is lakeside so as one would imagine the view was beautiful! The interior of the restaurant was pretty and had a Victorian, dollhouse feel to it. The service was good; plenty of decks on hand. As for the food it was okay. My dad was vehemently against it. He said that the turkey was dry and flavorless and complained about it for days. As a result, my mom went ahead and made another turkey dinner to right the wrong. I have to agree with my dad hers was SO MUCH better. It's possible that with it being Thanksgiving things weren't running or turning out as they normally would. It was a fixed-course menu with a predefined seating schedule; which can sometimes lead to more of a focus on mass production and turn over. So, I wouldn't recommend going here for a holiday dinner. I would be curious to see what it's like for lunch midweek or a weekend dinner.

Food is excellent, but the service has been spotty in my 2 trips. Courses sometimes delivered out of order, empty drinks for 10 minutes while the head waiter schmoozes the local Housewives. I would recommend it for a try when it's less busy.

Astoria, NY
Was here a few weeks ago for an early dinner. I was very impressed with the view and location, slightly impressed with the food, and completely dissatisfied with the service. The wait staff was extremely rude and seemed completely uninterested in serving us. I am not surprised by the post by the customer who lost her camera at the restaurant... the staff here is incredibly rude and don't seem to care at all about their customers. There are so many other great restaurants in the area, no need to waste your time and money here!

We (party of 6) were very disappointed especially with the staff; not very friendly or helpful. My seafood paella was the worst I ever had in my life; as a matter of fact the rice was so bad that I almost sent it back. The rest of the people in my party thought that their food was average, but the price was well above average. The view should be OK in the daytime, but for night dining go somewhere else and save your money and hopefully be served by a friendlier staff.

Copiague, NY
After an hour wait, I learned the reservations are for the in-door dining area only, not the water front view. The service was great, timely and attentive. The food was scrumptious. The menu has a nice variety, from Lobster Mac n' cheese to grilled center cut pork chops. A beautiful place...nice atmosphere.Be prepared to wait on a Friday evening! Overall good experience.

Another favorite of mine. This place is great! The service was a little slow but it's such a nice atmosphere a little wait is fine... you have to be hungry to go here. The deserts are amazing. It's right on the water and has a nice bar. I was amazed when they filmed Something Borrowed at this restaurant since it is so close to home. The atmosphere is also very romantic with the dimmed lights and the amazing sun sets.

We had a long wait to sit outdoors but the view was worth it. Overall a very nice place. Decent service. Food was good, but not good enough to merit that fourth star.
I must admit I was distracted from my food by the quality of the conversation! So I'll have to go back and re-check the food quality then update my review. -

Food is excellent, service good. Prices high, but you feel like it's worth it (the martinis are generous - you get the shaker, so it's like 2 martinis). I agree with the person who mentioned the host/mgr Jen - she has an attitude that rubs me the wrong way and almost keeps me from coming back - but the good outweighs the bad, and I always seem to enjoy the dining experience here.

I've been here a few times with my parents, and last night I came here again for my brother's girlfriend's birthday.
The view over the water here is spectacular, They also have seating outside in the summertime (when it's warm enough) so that you can take in the view.
The menu is pretty varied and the food is best described as modern American with an Italian flair with some unfocused dishes thrown in there for good measure. There is pasta bolognese on the menu, sushi, roast chicken dishes, steaks. Basically, like The Cheesecake Factory, but a much smaller menu. You could take anyone here and they'd find something they'd want to eat off the menu (except if you're vegetarian and they have no entrees that are actually vegetarian)
The French Martini is damn good (chambord + vodka + cranberry) and it's not too sweet.
Last night, we sat upstairs. I ordered the heirloom tomato salad. The tomatoes weren't quite at their peak yet (they tasted like they had been shipped here from far away), so they were a little mealy. The chef tried to make amends by covering them up with an intensly fruity olive oil. I should have known not to order tomatoes just yet.
Since there were no vegetarian entrees on the menu, I omitted the shrimp from a pasta dish with olive oil, some tomatoes and garlic. The dish was kinda bland (it needed salt or something), and there was really nothing spectacular about the sauce on it. Even with shrimp, I don't think that this pasta would have been better than it was.
My dad and brother had the sushi and they really liked it.
Attention chef: You need to focus your menu on a certain cuisine, and not hop all over the place. The best restaurants focus on one thing and do it really well. Maybe if you didn't offer sushi on the menu, my pasta dish would have been better. -

We've been at the restaurant a few times and there is always something. This time the service was pretty lame. On the other hand the food is pretty decent, however expect to pay around $30 per plate.

Northport, NY
Overpriced - you're not exactly looking at a montauk sunset; Host/Mgr Jen seems to have a "good old boy favorites mentality"......
Service is fair at best; prixe fixe lunch is a nice come on but they hammer you on drink prices and usually don't honor the "till 4pm "advertisement.
Plan on at least $50pp... -
Review from angie b.
Huntington, NY
No doubt, the view is quite pretty and the building itself is quaint. The food is fine, but overpriced for the overall quality and creativity of what is being put before you. What earns this restaurant a single star as opposed to a higher rating is the kindness and friendliness, or rather, the lack thereof, of the staff. I was truly horrified by the way my party was treated from the moment we received our 'welcome' upon entering this establishment. Blah, uppity attitude from the hostess, and downright condescending, obnoxious attitude from our waitress. No one wants to be treated in such a manner when splurging on a celebratory meal with family. Save the attitude for a truly formal, fine dining establishment with a master chef serving up culinary creations in an elegant surroundings, not some off-the-road, suburban wannabe-uppity schlock house. About two hours after departing from the restaurant, I realized I had left my camera hooked to the back of my chair. I called them as soon as I realized my camera was missing and the staff could not be any less helpful. I was told that our table had been re-arranged and another party was sitting there and that they maybe could look around. I went as far as to drive back to Mill Pond House to look around myself as I am certain where I left the camera. What disgusted me most was the fact that no one seemed to care, no one issued even an apology. The way I was treated honestly made me suspicious that someone on the staff kept my camera. (I know I risk sounding paranoid by writing that but I could not help but feel this way as no one on the staff could look me in the eye and they all seem perturbed over the fact that I was asking about a lost, quite expensive item that I am certain I left there. I will certainly NEVER go back and will never recommend this place to anyone. There are far better restaurants just up the road.

Long Beach, NY
Whether your here for the Cougars with their claws out and sharp on a Thursday night or if you are here for the food and super attentive service, either way you wont be let down.... Lot's of cougars
The Mill Pond is one of the better run places on the North Shore and it shows, the food is always been good and the service is great as well. Some of the standouts for me is their Mediterranean salad, it's field greens olives, blue cheese, tomatoes, capers, and roasted peppers, fresh and light. As well they make a great pork chop, served with a spicy hash browns. Simple fair, not too light though.
Lets not forget about the tremendous view and outdoor atmosphere, if you would like to eat outside, keep in mind it's first come first served. Also another nice touch is the propane heaters when it gets a little cool at night and for the ladies they offer lap blankets.
Overall great place for a nice evening, Fridays are great and loud, Sundays are family day, and any other day offers a nice mix. Good spot. -

My favorite restaurant on Long Island. Dessert was exceptional! Everything seems fresh and not at all oily. I left feeling refreshed, not heavy and guilty!! And it's so beautiful, love dining outside when it's warm. The service is amazing and everyone is friendly. A little dark, the menu nearly caught fire while i was trying to get some light!

Northport, NY
Mill Pond House is a really great evening out. The service is great. Some waiters know a bit more about wine than others - but all are attentive and strike a good balance between too much / too little attention.
The atmosphere is intimate in the main dining area - but not too dark. It is very comfortable - I wouldn't change anything.
Each time I have been there, the food was excellent. They always have a large choice of daily specials, but their standard menu is outstanding as well. Meat lovers - try the soy skirt steak if you have a hard time choosing. -

East Northport, NY
One of my favorite hot spots! In spring/summer they have such a beautiful view on the outdoor patio deck and the Tiki bar is nice to have a drink at overlooking the water. Great service - ask for Micheal. Romantic, quaint and I have to get a bad meal here! The sushi is top notch and the oysters are so fresh. The have a great wine list. If your seated outside the staff with come with complimentary wraps so you can stay warm. The live music is nice inside during the winter, the place is clean but save your money if you want to visit more often.

New York, NY
Most amazing rehearsal dinner here - the setting was beautiful upstairs, with the sun setting in the backdrop on the balcony. our friends loved it - they took so many pictures of us there. then the apps followed - hot apps for every table - plentiful and delish. the rice ball one was my fave. the staff was amazing - never in the way, but on top of every details. we had personalized dinner menus with our names, everyone always had a full drink, and the food didn't stop coming. every dish was better than the last. it was a ton of food - i was in heaven. our families enjoyed it. we gave speeches, opened gifts, and felt like it was our personal restaurant. our grooms cake was sent to the restaurant that day - they stored it for us, and served it. any extra pieces, they wrapped up for us to take, including the extra cookies and pastries from the meal. it could not have gone any better. we even had guests arrive late and they caught them up to speed - serving them the apps they missed. thank you sooo much. jen and dori were the managers, and we would see jen checking in the background to make sure it went smoothly. best dinner ever. loved this place!!

Have to say this is one of my favorite restaurants on Long island. Food is always top notch and service is great too. A little pricey but well worth every penny.

Flushing, NY
I used to go to this place more than 30 years ago when I lived on Long Island and it was under previous ownership. It was terrific then and may even be better now.
Went for a mid-week birthday luncheon. One person ordered the salmon from the $21.95 prix fixe menu which she raved about. Another person had the caesar salad with gigantic shrimp which was superb. I had the seafood fra diavalo. Huge portion prepared perfectly. Clams, mussels, shrimp and calamari over linguini in a not-too-hot fra diavalo dauce. Simply perfect and I couldn't finish it all. Dessert was chocolate mousse. Excellent.
Happily, the service matches the food. We were seated promptly and were lucky enough to get a terrific waiter who not only appeared to actually enjoy his job but even knew how to pour a glass of beer properly.
Interestingly, what draws some people here is the view. The Mill Pond is located at the edge of a bay and has an outside deck. However, we were here at low tide and the view was of mud flats. No water. If seeing water is important to you, you may want to make your reservation according to the tide tables.
Mud aside, the only other problem I encountered (a minor one at best) is that there are only two obscure beer brands on draft and I'd never heard of either of them. However, there are many brands of bottled beer and the wine list is extensive.
Mill Pond House is not inexpensive but at least you receive full value for your money. I would not order the lobster (they charge $25 per pound) but that aside the food, service and atmosphere will be worth the money. There's valet parking, an acceptable noise level (at least during lunch) and a friendly, attentive staff. For a pleasant, even romantic lunch or dinner, this is an excellent choice.
It's nice to go back to a place you remember fondly after 30 years and find out that not only has the standard not been lowered--if anything it may even be better. -

Awesome lunch and one of the more tranquil water views on Long Island. Once I was able to tune out The Real Housewives of the North Shore who were dining next to us, it was a pleasurable experience with solid food and attentive service.

New York, NY
I've been to the Mill Pond a number of times in the past and have always received great service. The staff are very attentive and prompt, quick to refill a water glass, but never trying to get rid of you once your meal is done.
The food is excellent as well. The specials vary wildly depending on the week, so any dinner there is a new experience unlike any other.
I don't get what sushi is doing on the menu, but it's not bad. -

Review from Will M.
Seaford, NY
Will I go back to Mill Pond House for lunch? Yes. It's an excellent choice for a special day. Even in today's downpour, the view through the large windows of the dining room was interesting, not claustrophobic. Clearly, when they can use their deck they can about double the capacity. The place was about 70% full at lunch, and about half of the customers seemed to be having sushi or other Asian dishes. I found the chicken Milanese excellent. Good salad; splendid desserts. Helpful service for most of the meal, but the check was presented without a refill on coffee or even an offer of any. The payment was picked up, more water came, but still no idea that a single cup of coffee isn't enough. Each of us had the lunch prix fixe of $21.95, but with upgrades on the entrees, plus wines over $10 created a total lunch bill $105 for three people. That's why the Mill Pond House has to be considered only for special occasions.

One of my favorite local chill spots. I enjoy the tiki bar overlooking the millpond. If the tide is out it can get a little funky, but don't let that deter you from this place. The food & service is consistantly good here. Give it a try.
