I've been a "yelp-lurker" for years now... a student switching neighborhoods, new to the city... I needed to get in the know w.o. knowing anyone who knew.

In '07 I reallllly needed a haircut after having a tragic cut/color disaster down the street from my apartment and the UBER-expensive "fix" that didn't leave me bowled over later, also in my neighborhood. Yelp it was.

I needed someone good, on the cheap side, talented w.o. being a snob (the stylist or the joint)... Milio's fit the bill and so did Billy.

I have straight-wavyish hair that I need to wash and go more times than not... It's also on the thin side, so anything that can fake volume (w.o. resorting to "bump-its" or teasing) is good, too.

The last couple of times I've let 6-7-8 MOnths in between cuts, as I've been busy w. life things, babies, etc. Billy's always been a welcoming guy, never chastising; he knows that I wouldn't "cheat" on him! (Except for the once-in-a-blue-moon chop my European MIL gave me!) This last cut was Utter Perfection.

I've seriously had bangs for 90% of my life, minus those times (like recently) when I let my hair grow for months on end and the bangs migrate out. So... I took my Rapunzle hair to Billy this past week, toting in pictures (from the waiting area, I should've known better). He seriously knows what I want/need/look good with better than I do! And Thank GOD. He proposes cutting off a bunch of inches, still leaving it long w. the layers it already has. Simple, right? Not after he was done w. me! It was perfect. A choppy finish--he always uses a razor, a little interest w. the remaining bangs/layers he'd cut 8ish months ago... I washed it and air dryed it yesterday, no product, only brushing it out... It's perfection. On my head. I've never been happier.

Yes, I know he's got a million fans, and I'm one of the tamer ones... but that's his versatility! He can do rocker AND mid-20's momma. So, all my mommas, don't look at the scary pic of the silly razored-hawk chickie up top! Get yourself a babysitter and pop over to Billy's chair! I've always had incredible luck getting in to see him, since I can't plan my days very far in advance.

So, this is my first post: my ode to the stylist that's saved me from hair hell and ponytails. I heart Billy.

Oh no. I really wanted to love this place. I had a lovely highlight experience as a model with Angelo initially and when I called for a specific day to come in and see him for a touch-up, he was off. I'm relatively laid back about my hair (big mistake) and decided to try another. They set me up with another male stylist whose name begins with a "J."

As I sat there, I tried to not get worked up that my hair was emerging a color that I had not anticipated. I expected that as it was dried, it would of course be exactly what I wanted. NOT THE CASE. I

I left the salon expecting the color to "grow on me" and when I brushed my teeth that night under more intensified lighting, I noticed that my hair was not so much highlighted with blonde but more all-over grey with violet undertones.

Naturally I called and came in the next day to have it re-tinted. They were super understanding and wonderful but "J" never came in that morning. I was forced to go with YET ANOTHER stylist! Ahhh! Nervously, I complied and although the new stylist did a better job, it was still so far from what I wanted. I was essentially back to y natural hair color and $90 poorer.

Ugh. Can anyone recommend a stellar replacement. I'm so nervous to go anywhere now.

I was going to a ball and I needed an up-do. My friend suggested Milios so I booked an appointment. My stylist's name was Carissa.

I loved that she sat me down on the chair and asked me questions about how I wanted my hair. Then she told me that she could not replicate the exact hairstyle that I wanted -- I had brought in a picture from one of my company's hairstyle magazines. But she reassured me that it would look similar and told me the steps she was going to take to make it happen. Alright, that sounds good.

She was really friendly as she styled my hair. I kind of like that personal treatment. But up-do's hurt. That's not my complaint though. I figured it was going to hurt what with her sticking all those bobby pins into my hair/head. And yeah, I know it's not her fault that it happened to be a very windy day, but right when I walked out the salon, I felt as if my up-do completely fell apart -- some of the bobby pins fell out.

I thought I looked like a disaster, but my friends said it was okay. Maybe they were just being nice. I don't know.

I may go back here one day for a cut though. I don't know about up-do's. We'll see.

I've had different experiences here. Most of them good. I've only ever had my hair cut here, not colored or anything else, and it was too pricey for the cut. It wasn't THAT great. The people are kind of pretentious.

If you're looking for some awesomely crazy haircut though at a high price, it's the place for you.

So I've been going to Robert Jeffery for a while now but I wanted to share why I left Jessica at Milio's.  Frankly, she got lazy.  Last time I was there she took ten minutes (literally) and used a razor to do my entire head.  LLLLLLAAAAAZZZZZYYYYYYYY and kind of sloppy.  Sorry Jessica.

I can't say I'm too into hair.  I don't get colored or dreaded or treated or any of the fancy pants stuff regular dudes like me should refrain from.  But I've been chopped at Milios for the past half decade or so and all I know is that when I leave the joint I feel invincible.  Or at least my head does.

Sometime the stylist run a little behind but I can't judge them for what I assume are jerkstore clients who were getting did before me.  I also miss the messy punk rock DIY look Milios sported before the current coke lounge decor.  Be warned: the stairs are mighty steep.  Unintentional upskirt peeks have been known to occur.  I am only human.

I have known about Milios for years being that I've lived the area my whole life, but for some silly reason never went in. My stylist of 6 years stopped cutting hair.. and I pretty much freaked out because I have super thick hair and she always made it look awesome. Wah, wah..

So.. I went to Milios very recently and BILLY cut my hair better than she ever did. It looks so super cute! Thank goodness for him! I've never been able to just let my hair dry naturally and it look THIS good. The price is great- $35.00 and Billy and the stylists will keep you laughing the whole time.

So happy! I will definitely be back soon to get some color done! Go to Billy!!!

Billy deserves more than 5 stars but sadly, that is all Yelp will let me give.

Billy gives you a haircut that suits you.  He is extremely honest which I consider to be a good thing.  Billy will listen to what you want and try to give you the best haircut for your life style and your type of hair.  I have semi-curly hair that I have always fought with, and he cut my hair so I don't have to do anything to make it look good.  I've never liked my hair more than when Billy takes care of it.  I'll never go anywhere else!!

Sadly, my beloved stylist Isaac has moved out of state.  He is doing well and loving his new life, but my hair had to pay the price.  I went back to Milio's for one haircut after he left and was not thrilled at all...with the haircut or the snooty service from the front desk.  Without Isaac I do not like Milio's and I have moved on to another salon.

"Cutting Edge!"

This place is a very urbanistic roots salon.  All of their stylists look super cool and their cuts are "edgy."  Think Rhianna folks!  I like the products they used on my hair but in terms of the actual cut, I wasn't too impressed despite all of the rave reviews about this place.  I have very thick hair and I understand that it is harder to cut and style than thinner hair types.  Although my stylist did a decent job in taking the time to style it, she didn't spend as much time in layering it and making it better for manage-ability.  I think maybe it depends on the stylist (although I went to the one people had recommended).  Anywho, parking is a pain at this place and the pricing is about the same as most upscale salons (they might offer student discounts).

I did not like it here. I had some weirdo guy color my hair and was quoted a different price over the phone for a partial. Then I was upcharged. He gave me crappy color and I thought the whole place was pretentious.
If you want punk rock, goth, whatever alternative style with quirky colors, then I think this would be a great place to go. But if you want something a bit more tame then head to another salon.
I think they specialize in different cuts that are not mainstream-which is great, BTW, but not for me.
I like walking into a salon and feeling relaxed and comfortable. This place seemed neurotic.

I like this place for cuts and off-the-wall coloring.  I've been primarily going to Jessica recently, but I've been to a couple of other people as well.  I didn't get to-die-for cuts but they were nice and I looked cute (well, while it was still styled, anyway) so yay!   I don't know what a "normal" dye-job here would look like, since it seems like most people get bleached and dyed purple or blue or something.  They're usually pretty good about scheduling my boyfriend and I together, which I like.  His stylists have been a little more hit-or-miss than mine, but usually he comes out looking pretty decent; I guess it's hard to mess up guys' hair.

I have heard that a lot of their stylists have been poached recently, so I'd make sure you stick with someone you like; I have no idea how good the newbs are.

Also, dye-jobs can get eye-poppingly expensive.  A cut runs about $40+tip, which isn't a terrible deal for the city.

Back in October I needed my hair cut ASAP and found out when I called that Heather had quit the previous day...so, I set up an appointment with Sara.

I've been back to her a second time and am completely happy in my decision to stay at Milios instead of tracking Heather down at her new shop.

Sara is very friendly and really listens to the concerns and ideas I have about my hair.  Both times I've seen her I've walked away very pleased.  Her cuts are great and the color is to die for!

She doesn't harass me about only coming in every 5 months and never tries to talk me into a style I'm not comfortable with.  She actually trimmed my hair the exact amount we talked about which is usually impossible to find in a stylist.  And, maybe my favorite thing about Sara is that she didn't even scold me when I told her I gave in to my roommates desire to color my hair from a box...

You get $5 off your next appointment if you pre-book, which I did, to ensure there won't be anymore DIY hair moments at my house!

Admittedly, I'm a Big Hair defector.  I used to swear by the place, but after a handful of less than stellar experiences, I've jumped ship over to Milo's.  Sure, it's a bit more expensive, but I got the best haircut I've ever gotten here.

My first time coming to Milo's, I went to Big Hair first and asked for a pompadour, which is what I usually get.  She said she can definitely do that and got-a-cuttin'.  Unfortunately, she was way more into name dropping whatever punk rock dudes she knows and less into paying attention to what she was doing.  I was so irritated by the situation that I just decided to say "ya know, that's fine.  It's good enough."  I paid for my haircut, went home and my wife suggested I call that "punk rockish place by the Belmont red line stop."

I totally thought this place was for posers and dip shits for years and years, because that who I mainly saw going in and out of here.  But after getting my hair cut here, I changed my tune entirely.

I was getting my haircut by this dude named Jeffrey for a while, but he no longer works there.  His haircuts were good and my pomp was very Morrissey-esque.  After he quit, this greaser lookin' guy named Billy cut my hair and he's the absolute perfect combination of chatty and able.  He can keep up a good conversation about music and guitars while chopping your hair into the perfect style.  Best pomp anyone's ever given me.  Plus he gave me some excellent pointers on styling it.

Five stars for fair prices for great hair cuts.
Minus one star for being located around Belmont and Clark.
Plus one star for friendly service and experienced barbers.

I used to come here to get my choppy layered hair trimmed. I came here because I wanted something edgy and non-traditional, but it was somewhat like pulling teeth to get the stylist to do it. Sure, I don't have tattoos and major piercings...but at least give me a crazy haircut!

The customer service here is a little unfriendly or maybe just aloof. No one really talked to me the whole time I was there...and I went back at least a dozen times.

Someday, when I'm bouncing my grandchildren on my knee, I'll be telling them about the great cuts and fun talks that I've had with Jamie. She's the best.
Milios has never disappointed, and I usually have pretty good luck getting in to see Jamie easily. The atmosphere is great, the other stylists are nice, and the prices aren't ridiculous.
If you're a dude (or gal) who wants a good haircut, go see Jamie. Tell her Ben from Miami sent you, maybe she'll laugh.

Whether you want your hair to resemble Dolly Parton or you want to rock out with the colors of the rainbow all over your head - this is the place to be.

Color treatments will cost you a good lot, but the quality of products they use justify it. There's nothing here they won't do, or at the very least try, with constant consultation. You girls aren't the only ones worried about how your hair will turn out. We boys just don't like to admit to it. Oh the vanity.

I myself have black ass hair. I once tried to pink it up, which you can imagine, takes a horrendous amount of time with bleaching and the whole nine yards. All the while working against my infamous cowlick as they try to sculpt some form of a decent faux hawk. I figure I'm asian. So I can pretty much get away with any hair.

The establishment itself has a wide variety of talents and personalities. It helps to find someone you're comfortable with after a few tries and take it from there. Reception is extremely friendly and attentive to your needs, and they're more than willing to set you up for that next time when we all should expect that red to turn into a horrendous Pepto Bismal pink.

Great price all things considered, with endless possibilities for your prospective new hair cut, very convenient location to the Belmont eL stop, very strong talent lurking inside the salon with their shiny scissors...

You can't go wrong here.

She even helped with the recent decision to add side bangs... she's great at listening to my ideas and telling me what will work!
It's $35 bucks for a cut... and in the city that's not bad! Be prepared for an entertaining atmosphere and for some good people watching!

$90 (with $5 off for bringing in a referral card)  for partial highlights and a bang trim from Erin. I was pleased and will go back again.

Side note: The girl getting her hair cut in the station next to me told her stylist that she was a "baby" about getting her hair cut - the stylist (whose name I can't remember) apparently also did a decent job, as the client didnt start sobbing.

Also, my appointment was at 10am on a saturday, so while I was there it was pretty quiet. I imagine it can get pretty loud/rowdy during the busier times.

I wasn't going to write a review for Milios.  I wasn't going to write a review for Milios because while I was getting my hair done yesterday my stylist and I talked about how much a few negative reviews from Yelp have really bothered him.  This was after he was so helpful explaining to me the difference between two cuts I had been describing to him, which was so helpful that I had faith that the color portion was going to be great.  I felt for him, that sometimes people can be harsh and say things that are not true all of the time, out of spite.

And then after the terrible color I came home with, I debated even more.  Do I write the truth and further this stylists upset feelings towards Yelp?  I'm sorry Stylist (I won't say his name) but my hair is suffering and my wallet is down $175.00 with nothing to show but a need for corrective color somewhere else.

I had been to Milios a few months ago and had a different person who, while he did an okay job with the cut, the color was stripey and just overall not very professional.  I decided to give the place another try with another stylist because the place is not far away, can fit me in last minute, and the prices are okay.

The new stylist was very nice and was very helpful as far as helping me describe to him what I really wanted as far as the cut.  I really appreciated that because no one has ever taken the time to sit down and describe to me why what I was saying was conflicting, which has resulted in bad cuts for a long time.  After that it was all downhill.

While he was applying the color I kept thinking to myself that it did not look like the color was going on very smoothly.  It was all gloppy and all over my face and ears.  (I went home with my skin stained and had to go to work today with brown blotches on my ears.)  Once the foils were out and I was blow dryed,  the stylist was about to send me out the door.  And then I got a better look at myself in the mirror.  My hair had polka-dots of color where spots were missed.  I showed it to him and he asked me if I wanted him to run a toner over it.  Um, Yeah!!!  I wasn't going home like that.

Two toner rinses later, my hair was almost black with no dimension..just all over color as a result of the all over toner.  I came in looking to go darker for fall (from blonde highlights) with some caramel type lowlights.  What I got was all over color with no dimension and fried hair that hopefully won't fall out from so much processing.

I should have spoken my mind but I was scared that he would continue to try to "fix" it and I was afraid my hair could not take too much more.  I lied, told him it was fine and got the hell out of there, paying full price, mind you.

It sounds like Milios is great, if you get the right person.  I won't be back, however.

I went here for my first haircut in Chicago.  It was the closest and cheapest place around ($35).  Billy cut my hair and seemed a bit nervous at first.  I have long hair and I think stylists are more nervous to cut long locks off.  Most people with long hair tend to be attach to it, but Im not like that.  So, once I convinced him that I wouldn't sue him for a haircut, he cut away and its one of the best cuts I've had in awhile.  My bangs came out really cute.  Minus one star for a rescheduled appointment.

If you are new to town like me...you enter at the tanning salon door and go up the stairs and its the door on the right.

I used to come here for about a year.  But eventually I got tired of showing up on time and being kept waiting for 20, 30, sometimes up to 40 minutes because a dye job was scheduled before my 15-minute cut.  Someone over there needs to figure out how to make appointments.

Then they devised a new pricing scale where customers pay more for stylists with more experience.  I don't understand the need for this new system.  I moved on.

I had the good luck of finding a free haircut at this place via Craigslist the other day...which was cool because the person who would be cutting my hair was the teacher of the class. So, free haircut by someone who (one would assume) knows what they're doing? Sure, I'm in.

As soon as I got there, Erin (the chick who would be cutting my hair) offered me so green tea while I waited. I always think that I like grean tea because it's all healthy and good for you, and then I take a sip and realize it tastes like unsalted popcorn mixed with dry fish food. I don't like it. And yet I constantly find myself drawn to it.

Anyways, it was nice to be offered a hot beverage on a cold, rainy night. One of the students shampooed me, and I found myself actually chatting with her and not pretending with all of my might that she didn't exist. Huh. Then I was seated for the cut. Mostly I just sat there, occasionally shooting the shiz with the 4 or 5 stylist gathered around, which was kinda cool. They all seemed nice enough. And it was nice because I didn't feel forced to talk as Erin was explaining all the C-cuts or what not she was doing.

At the end I told her I wanted really heavy bangs, and she was all, first let's see if that's possible with your hair. Which I kinda liked. Sometimes stylists will do what you ask for without ever considering if it will look okay on you or not. She ended up cutting the bangs a little long, but otherwise, it looked good.

Basically, I got a free haircut that looked much better going out than it did coming in, so I was happy. Would I pay normal price for the same thing? Maybe. But right now I'm poor and there are TONS of places that offer free haircuts for hair models, so I'm all about taking advantage of that.

Also, my mom went here and loved her haircut but hated her color. It seems from other reviewers that the color can be kind of questionable. For now, I'll stick to free haircuts.

I've been going to sal for about 4 years and I love him. He manages to work wonders on my curly puffy mess of hair. In fact, he's the only person who has ever cut my hair that didn't turn me into a poodle head- unless I asked him to! He's always super friendly and funny, and he doesn't take forever to get the job done.
To me, the prices have always seemed very reasonable. After the management changed I hadn't gone for a while and thought the prices might have jumped, but the price for a cut- which is all I do- was pretty much the same.
The people up front are generally pretty friendly and helpful. I think Milio's- specifically, Sal- is pretty damn awesome

I used to be a fan of the haircuts I received from this place and the people seemed to be pretty friendly, but I guess things have changed over time.  I used to go in here wearing some random punk/hardcore shirt, and service was pretty good, but recently I've tried to go in after work with my collared shirt and the service has been pretty crappy.  After waiting for 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment time today, I decided to jump ship and officially denounce this place as a ridiculous, overpriced mall of fashionable pricks.

I'm pretty happy I've decided never to set foot in this place again, I'll be better off.

I used to have a great stylist, but then she left and since then I've been going to a new stylist. I just want to say that this review has nothing to do with her as a person (she's very nice and fun to talk to) but my hair looks horrible. I had her color it blonde a couple months ago, and it turned out yellow. I figured I would give it a week or so to lose the hay-like color but it never happened. I went back to have her fix it and now it's more orangy brown. I have never been so unhappy with my hair, I'm just not going to go back there again. It's a shame because I really hate looking for a good hair stylist. I think the people here at Milios are better at hair cuts than colors. Sorry Milios, you have lost a customer.

When i moved back to chicago I needed an affordable, yet fun place to get my hair done. I'm really particular about my cuts. I was extremely welcomed on my walk in visit, got in within a matter of minutes, and was really happy with my cut when i walked out. My stylist listened to what i wanted, and was fun to talk with while i was stting there.

It had been over a year since I'd had a real haircut, and I was looking for something new. A new look, and an increased confidence. I had heard and read such rave reviews about this place, so I decided I'd give it a try.

I was disappointed.

When I was sat down and asked what I wanted done, I didn't feel like the stylist was listening to or cared about what I had to say. This became evident when he asked three of the same questions both before the shampoo, and during/after the cut.

The cut process wasn't too pleasant. The conversation felt forced, bordering on uncomfortable. He seemed to be more focused on his gripes about life than my hair. After the cut,  and after asking me, once again, if I use product or not, he didn't even ask if I liked what he had done, or offer me a mirror. He just stood me up and led me to the cashier. I was feeling my hair on the walk over and realizing he had ruined it.

When I got home I looked in the mirror, and was seriously considering taking my trimmer and shaving my head bald. The cut was not so great. It wasn't anywhere near what I asked for (I was very, very clear), and didn't even fit my face. I played around with it a bit, and took scissors to it. I managed to make it a little bit better. If he had at least used his creative license well (he didn't), or if I had walked out with a haircut that I hated, yet was still sharp (I didn't), I'd be much happier...

I've had worse haircuts... but I've also had better (and hipper) haircuts at Supercuts, at small town barber shops, from my mom, from girlfriends who had never cut anyone's hair before, and even from myself. I feel like I wasted my money here. It wasn't expensive, but it was much, much more than I should have to pay for a below-average haircut, and for something that's still in need of being fixed.

This will take a month to recover from, and that pisses me off.

The few positives of my experience with this place are: I managed to get a same-day appointment, in spite of its popularity. The location is good. There are some very beautiful women in there. And my hair was not damaged beyond total repair. This cut could have been worse.

In summary, if you're a guy, I'd recommend thinking twice before you go into this place for the first time.

I'd also love to hear recommendations from guys for a stylist at this place who can give a great haircut, because I've seen some dudes with stylish hair swearing on graves about this place.

I'm extremely particular about my hair.  I've had more bad haircuts than I can count on two hands and that coupled with how short I prefer to keep my hair makes me a little gun-shy when it comes to stylists.  A friend referred me to Brenna at Milio's and I've been hooked ever since.

The place definitely has a Hot Topic feel to it but if you look beyond the tragically hip deco, you'll find a lot of great stylists.  Brenna has never canceled an appointment with me, she's always friendly, and she cuts hair like nobody's business.  For me, communication is key when I'm looking for a stylist.  She not only is a great listener, she remembers pretty much everything we talk about despite the 3-4 months between my haircuts.  I've had a hard time in the past getting stylists to remember my styling preferences, but I rarely have to remind Brenna of any O.C. tendencies I have with my hair.

The salon itself seems to run smoothly.  I've never had an issue with scheduling or rude staff.  I would highly recommend Milio's.

For a funky hair studio, I was only semi-impressed. I just wanted a hair cut and I ended up with really chunky layers at the stylist's urging and I feel like she shouldn't have made that judgment call since a) it was my first time there and b) she hadn't even really seen my hair's texture since I cam in with a ponytail. Meh. However, everyone was friendly and I was able to walk right in on a Friday evening to get a hair cut for $35, not bad. I do like the atmosphere and I've heard many stylists there are very talented, you just have to be specific.

This review is more for Anne Richardson than for the salon itself. Anne is a fabulous hairdresser and a kick ass human being. She absolutely rocked my wedding hair. Got it dyed to the perfect shade of deep dark brown a week before the event. She trucked up to my place and did vintage style up-do's on me and my two bridesmaids that were phenomenal. It was the hottest day of the summer and my hair stayed PERFECT all day and well into the wee hours of the night.

I've since been back and she dyed my hair again. I was ready to get rid of the hair I had been growing for a year for the wedding and wanted to donate it. So, she put it into a ponytail, lopped that bad boy off and gave me the bob that I never knew I wanted.

Writing this review reminds me, I need a haircut. Anne!

I've been going here on and off for about 6 years...but never consistent enough to say I've only been to one stylist. The last time I remember was with Jay Jay and it was fabulous. He was out of town this week, so they scheduled me with Shauna. We did some color and reshaping of my hairstyle. I was going for more fringe, asymetrical bangs and some contrast color. Shauna delivered! She was so attentive, making sure that I was comfortable (she brought me my phone when I got bored) and was on point checking to make sure the color was processing correctly. She listened carefully when I showed and explained my sketches of what I wanted to do to my hair, and made suggestions as to what would go with my face and color and length. I was more than happy with the result, and pre-booked my next appointment (you get $5 off when you pre-book and they also offer student discounts).  Very relaxed environment, all types of people go here. Definitely a keeper.

I cannot believe I can get a cool haircut for about $30.  Libby is the shit.  She has never given me a suburban Mom hair, and she knows how to work with my weird locks that are thick and curly in the back, and fine and wavy in the front.

This place is nor frills though... if you want a glass of wine, forced conversation, or a polished atomosphere, go somewhere else.  This place is rough around the edges, but in a good way.

James at Milios has been maintaining my locks for over a year now and I have to say that I am consistently pleased.  I appreciate that I can go in for an appointment with absolutely no idea as to how I want my hair cut, and James is able to take in the best direction.  He recently chopped about 4 inches and, although I'm still adjusting, I'm super pleased with the results.  Plus, as an added bonus, you get $5 off for pre-booking--$35 haircut?! Yes, please.

I have been there a few times, and every one has been a great experience.

Most recently, Jessica took me from a really crappy home dyed red to blond, and it looks great.  She was so friendly, and kind to me, and dealt with me for almost 6 hours, she even worked until well after closing time.  My hair looks great and I love it so much.

I will never try to dye my hair again!
