Disclaimer - a $250 NYC room is about the same as the $39 Excalibur in Vegas.  With that out of the way, there's a lot to like about the Milburn.

We booked on their website two weeks before our trip.  I asked for two non-smoking twins, far from street level.  When we arrived, despite being sold out they gave us a free upgrade to a suite, room 806.  It was large for NYC standards, with two full beds, a good sized bathroom (about 5 x 6 perhaps), and a kitchenette.  Beds were comfortable, clean sheets, and the hotel wasn't overly noisy or thin-walled.

Amenities - Free Wifi.  Cable TV.  Free gym (JCC, very nice).  Nice location in the UWS, lots of anything that you'd need within a few blocks.

Definitely will stay here again next time we're in town.

Odd how "snooty" the front desk is. I was traveling in NY, and visited colleagues staying at the hotel.  Needed to "invoke" my boarding pass as the time rolled around (a process that takes maybe 30 seconds), but front desk - which was totally unoccupied with any guests - wouldn't do it as my registered guests colleagues stood by.  They wanted to send me to a Kinko's 20 blocks away.  Plenty of other options for lodging in NY... stay elsewhere.  They don't deserve your business.

This reasonably priced, extremely well-located, clean, no frills hotel has sufficient attractive benefits to overcome the officious manager who, when I insisted persistently that he immediately reverse an unauthorized $350 overcharge on my card, nose airward hurrumphed "well, it's hardly enough money to get stressed out about."

But now that Daughter No. 1 is in school literally up the road, I would stay here again, even though I really did want to punch the manager in the nose over that remark. But in the end, he resolved the overcharge, and did the right thing, so I'm all good.

We really like the Milburn after having stayed in it a number of times over the last 5 years.

Free WiFi.
Free Breakfast, Mon-Fri.
Refrigerator in every room.
Convenient location: close to subway (1 line) and a 24-hour supermarket.

A nice enough place if you're traveling with a group.  The suites are the real prize as they are not terribly expensive, decently sized (some will sleep six), and have a kitchenette.  This isn't a hotel you go to for perks, but everything is clean even if a little old.

The location near the subway and a lot of great UWS eateries is perfect.

We've stayed here twice in the last 5 years.

Not fancy, but clean and in a safe neighborhood.  Close to the subway, good restaurants and grocery stores.

I'd definetely stay here again.
