Met the Milat brothers and was incredibly impressed with the entire experience. They were hilarious, entertaining, and very kind. I ended up walking out with over $100 worth of wine and my entire crew was given free tastings because of it. I recommend the chocolate port sauce above all. They have a great cab as well. If you are on a wine tour, I would suggest tasting at some of the larger vineyards, but end up at this spot to get a local feel that's worth rallying behind. They know their wine well, and will take the time to invest into your knowledge.

    "Favorite wine in Sonoma!"

The Milat family was friendly and welcoming.  Their tasting room was dog friendly (+++) and their wines were delicious.  Thanks so much for sharing our weekend experience with us!

At a friend's birthday dinner, my husband and I tried the Milat Zin, and we were hooked. Fast forward a few months, and during a Napa trip, this place was a must stop. It is very charming, a small, family owned estate winery. Apparently, they used to rent out a guest house, but that option was unavailable when we went. In any case, the tasting went really well. They are pros-the info sheet has everything, from type of grapes to amount of cases produced to notes. The $5 tasting includes all the wines in the flight. The Chenin Blanc was my personal fav of the wines, though the Zinfandel is great. The chocolate port sauce is a MUST! It is thick, hearty, and you taste the port and chocolate in all their goodness. The best thing however, is Bob Milat. He is so adorable and funny, proving that drinking with company is that much more fun! He was more than happy to talk to us about the soil, the weather, the grapes, and their processes, and as wine noobs, my husband and I got a lot of understanding. They don't do a ton of varieties, but they stick to what they know works and grows well with what they have. He was also happy to talk to us about bottling, shipping, and the difficulty in getting their bottles in stores in say, our neck of the woods (Los Angeles). It really was a joy to partake in their flight and have a great conversation with one of the owners. I think we would have walked away with a case if my husband could have fit it in the car!

Chocolate port sauce!!! One of the most delicious things I've ever tasted and reason enough to come to Milat Vineyards Winery.

You don't associate a laid back family run business with Napa Valley winegrowers, but that is exactly what Milat is. From the moment you step foot inside the tasting room it becomes abundantly clear that this is not the typical Napa Valley winery. The tasting room is run by the owners themselves and they are incredibly personable. They pour generous tastings for a modest fee and genuinely enjoy telling the story behind their wines.

All of the wines here are excellent, but their ports stand out amongst the rest as the reason you absolutely have to make a stop at Milat Vineyards on your next trip to the Napa Valley. The 2006 Zivio Port is fortified with brandy and will go perfectly with any dessert. The real star is the  Chocolate Port Wine Sauce, a single taste is all it will take for you to fall completely in love with Milat Vineyards.

Milat Vineyards Winery is an absolute can't miss for any trip to the wine country, just be sure to pick up a bottle of the chocolate port wine sauce while you are there.

This is a great little family run winery to stop by if your doing winery hopping! The parking lot and tasting room are small, which is a bit uncomfortable if theres no room for you at the bar because they dont rly offer anything else to look at or entertain yourself with while you wait your turn, but the gentleman, which is one of the owners, was very welcoming and friendly and made room for us int he crowd already at the bar! I was surprised at how well he handled the group, not rly ignoring one or the other, and also engaging all parties! He cracks jokes and tells stories and is very down to earth, and we LOVED THAT! Im not much of a wine drinker, i dont like it, so i dont feel i can give you an honest opinion of their wines, although the bf loved them! BUT the Chocolate Port sauce was HEAVENLY, just like the rest say!!

Hands-down my favorite winery in the Napa/St. Helena area.

Delicious Chenin-Blanc and fun conversation with the gentleman serving us.

Relaxed atmosphere, no rushing to get you out, and a true sense of "let's just chat casually over a glass of wine, even though I can tell your face is really red because you are Asian, but you know what, thats totally cool with me so just enjoy your Chenin Blanc" feeling.

    Will be coming back soon!

What an awesome pit-stop along our way in St-Helena!  This is a family owned vineyard and born in 1986.. Just as old as me!  The tasting room is a bit small and only has one chair... So when big groups and other individuals come on in, the place does get cramped and you don't get a chance to hang out at the front wine bar with the host.  We had a group of 7 yesterday and were all lined up along the bar.  Other couples came in so we tried to squeeze or make room for them.  There was definitely a strong and strange odor we all smelled as we entered the premises.. But you will get used to it within minutes.. unless you keep going in and out.  Bathroom is located on the side of the building!.  Little amount of parking spots so beware!

Service was fabulous.  The owner was hilarious from the beginning to end.  He made us feel very welcomed with his humor and knowledge of wine.  He had a carefree personality and since one of our friends bought about 4 bottles of wine, all the tasting fees were on him! yay!  It is cheap though.. $5 for 7 flights of wine.. you get to try the blanc, chardonnay, port, cab, merlot, zinfandel, port de chocolat...  The chocolate syrup was delicious and a great addition to desserts!  I was just scooping that little sample up like crazy.

I wish I was able to enjoy this experience more due to me getting sick.. It's okay.. Until next time!

Our group of 11 started our Napa wine trail at Milat Vineyards http://static.px.yelp..... What an awesome choice. Family owned, you really get the feeling like you're a close friend just stopping by for a visit to chit chat. Definitely not the hoity toity winery where you might feel uncomfortable that you're swirling or sipping all wrong. Instead we were joking with Bob Milat (a fellow Cal Poly alum!) http://static.px.yelp.... and hearing his stories while sipping on Chenin Blancs and Merlots.

$5 for 7 tastings http://static.px.yelp.... ...what a deal. The tasting room is a small space but the genuine vibe the minute you walk in more than makes up for it.

If you're into the sweets, get the Chocolate Port Sauce...which from what I recall, Bob said tastes even better poured over..ahem. What a funny old man!

Bob Milat, my buddy, my pal.  I thank this man for making my view of Napa change drastically from the snooty stuck up wine connoiseur to just the simple chilled laid back vibe.  Heck, he's my fellow Cal Poly Alum and he absolutely made wine tasting in Napa remind me of those I've gone to in Paso Robles.  This spot is definitely a small winery and it doesn't have the whole fancy schmancy feel, but it takes you down to earth a little bit more and just enjoy the experience.

And at $5 for 6-7 tastings, that's really cheap for Napa.  I would definitely come back here since I enjoyed their Chenin Blanc and the Port Chocolate Sauce.

I am reviewing their lodging, not their winery since my boyfriend and I stayed here recently during a trip to Napa. He had stayed here once before so when he found out his friend was getting married in the area, he booked a reservation for their cottage. They have 3 different rooms available and they're all in the back which would make them easy to miss unless you know about them.

Anyway, the cottage was small and cozy with an awesome view of the vineyard. We got there late at night so I didn't realize that the big window across from the bed had such an awesome view! There was also a little patio area outside which was nice. We didn't spend much time here since we were out most of the time but I enjoyed my stay! :)

Bob and Mike Milat have got to be two of the most awesome people ever to make wine.  Seriously, these two are so laid back and personable it is impossible not to love them.

My friends and I tend to employ a highly scientific method for wine tasting when in Napa (i.e. Hey, that place looks cool, let's stop there), we stumbled upon Milat in just such a way.  If you're looking for a place that is delightfully unpretentious, a place where you can ask questions about wine and not be made to feel like an idiot, a place you are made welcome and has some damn good wine, this is your place.

Tasting is five bucks, which is credited toward any bottle of wine you purchase or you can keep the glass if you collect such things.

Once again, a brief taste of how Napa used to be.  I talked to Bob Milat for a long while at the winery, about how people need to drink more Merlot, about the upcoming crush, and about life and the universe in general.  Great guy.  The winery wasn't that busy, so the tasting was relaxed and very enjoyable.

If you drive past this place, you're making a mistake.  There are few real family wineries anymore, and damn few wineries where you can have a conversation with the actual wine maker.  Stop in, relax, and have some good wine at very reasonable prices.

Long over due review as I've been a huge fan of Milat (and the owners) for over 10 years.

If you're looking for "real" then go here...if you're looking for some canned pretty show run by paid employees, go elsewhere.

Hands down their Cabernet is my favorite and at only $38 a bottle for a Rutherford Cabernet it is fabulously priced...buy it by the case (why not - you know you'll end up wishing you had) and the price goes down further. I have had over 10 years of their cabernets - consistently good!

So, when you want to taste good wine that you can buy without breaking the bank and are more interested in talking to people who "live" the work of making the wine head on over to Milat!

On our way home from an epic and impromptu day of random wine tasting, Baby Brian, Nicolas and I drove past a small shack of a tasting room that had one sign precariously perched atop its roof -- Milat Vineyards.  Seeing a tiny parking lot with but one vehicle, I said to the boys, "We HAVE to finish our day up at this joint."

We walked in just as a couple was leaving, making the three of us the ONLY patrons in this tiny space of a tasting room.  We noticed that tasting was only $5 and refunded upon purchase -- ah, a winery that speaks our language!  Our kind host for the day, Mike, just made our experience that much more awesome.

We talked up a storm with Mike about everything, from education to the economy, to shots of Jack (sadly, we didn't take any with him, but 'twould've been outstanding to do so), and he was just about the funniest and kindest person we'd encountered all day long.  I was so impressed with his wines and his very nondescript, non-bullsh*tting manner of helping us out that I decided to purchase a bottle of his popular Zin, which was left off the tasting menu due to its low supply.  I figure, if it's almost gone, then it must be good!  Nicolas also purchased a chenin blanc (I'm so proud of him for putting his money towards the smaller wineries, I love him) and I added to my basket a bottle of their chocolate port sauce (which Baby Brian then proceeded, a number of times, to spill on his sweater -- I love him too) to give to Angie B. and Natalie M. upon our return to Berkeley.

Mike didn't even charge us for the tasting (possibly because we bought wines, but also possibly because he is just a cool cat), and we took a couple sweet pictures in the tasting room with him.  I highly recommend Milat not only for the quality of its product, and not only for Mike being totally awesome, but also to support the smaller family-owned and operated wineries in the area.  I'm all about that.  Thank you Milat for an outstanding closing experience to our day, and trust me -- the chocolate port sauce was a HIT for dessert!

(I'll update when Baby Brian, Nicolas and I bust open our celebratory Zin -- we're saving it for a 'special occasion.')

This winery was a recommendation from a good friend.  Unbelievable!!!  These guys do a great job, the Merlots are good, the Chenin Blanc to die for.  I even bought the Cabernet.

Now for most tasting rooms I have been to many this one is small, but you can't beat the personality of the owners.  They are totally awesome.  Very personable, funny as hell and willing to respond to any question regarding their wine production include yeast variation anyone could possibly ask.

    This is a must go!!!

This was actually the first stop at Napa that my friends and I made... and I can say that I was definitely drunk by the end of our tasting session.

For $5, the owner, Bob Milat, provided us with 6-7 tastings. That is a BARGAIN compared to the rest of Napa's other wineries. Not only that, Bob was very personable and it's hard not to be won over by the charm and down-to-earth demeanor that he and his winery exudes.

Would gladly go back again the next time I'm in the area!

I've never found a Napa wine that I've truly liked... until today.  Five of them too.  This unassuming little winery is such a gem among the huge touristy hot spots that surround it.  The one of the owners, Mike, is incredibly easy-going and friendly; we felt like his personal guests rather than one of the million lost sheep miserably crowding huge oaken halls.  And most of all, the wine -- finally some wonderful Napa wine:

    ++ | Chardonnay |
Bright, fruity, good balance of sweet/dry, light finish

    ++ | Cabernet Sauvignon |
Extremely mellow tannins! Smooth & round flavor which masks the strong bite a typical cab would have.

    ++ | Chocolate Port Sauce |
French chocolate mousse in liquid form.  This is DELICIOUS and pairs perfectly with the Zivio port wine.

Chenin Blanc & Zin are also great here.

Tasting = $5 for 7; waived w/purchase OR if the owner is in an especially happy mood

If you are looking for a great wine tour this one might not impress you much. Although it is a small vineyard and the owner said they are not used to big groups (our group was only 9 people.) She was a little bit unorganized with the whole tasting portion. The lady was sweet and informative but didn't know when to stop rambling on. But their tasting is very inexpensive: $5!

However, I loved their Chocolate Port Sauce and Chenin Blanc.

We stopped in here today cuz it was one of the few tasting rooms we could find open on Xmas eve afternoon. Glad we did! The wines were really good....chenin blanc is much sweeter than other chenins I've had before. And the chard was awesome (though the guy behind the bar mentioned they just tore up their chard vines so they won't be making it anymore - boo). Port was excellent too, especially cuz of the wee dish of chocolate accompanying it! I'm not a big fan of red wines, although their zin is very tasty. My husband really liked the cab. And best of all? Our tasting fee was waived - that's the christmas spirit don't ya know! XD

Our private driver took us here towards the end of our Sonoma-Napa tour. We were trying to blast out some quick stops toward the end of the day. What a nice surprise from this unpretentious and laid back winery. One of the owners (I think this was Mike) served us in the tasting room and had us laughing for over a half an hour. This is "old school" Napa, not old and fussy. The owners are original Napa and have been farming grapes here for over 60 years.

The wines are good and once again unpretentious. The Chardonnay was lovely, the Zinfandel good and the Chocolate Port Sauce was amazing. There are also two cottages on the property if you are looking for something laid back.

We came here based on the great Yelp reviews and this is exactly why I turn to Yelp for suggestions.  This place was awesome!

Small and family owned, they're sweet and would like for you the respect their place.  It's their home and we are guests.

The owner, Mike, started off by asking how I found the place.  I mentioned Yelp and he chuckled because most of the reviews were good except maybe one.  He mentioned that the one might have been because he kicked the guy out!  Why...cause he was wearing a sweatshirt he didn't agree with.  Something with the letter F and baby in it.  We all laughed because then we noticed that my friend didn't have his jacket on.   Apparently he was asked to remove it because it said FCUK...go French Connection for insulting Mom & Pop Shops!

Anyhow, we did 7 tastings for $5.  The experience was fun, not snooty AT ALL, and most of us ended up leaving with a bottle or two.  As the reviews prior have said, the Chocolate Port Sauce ($18) is amazing and I really enjoyed their Chenin Blanc ($18) even though I tend to be a red wine fan.

Milat is truly what many might imagine a small family winery and vineyard to be.  It is unassuming and personable, and it is definitely not pretentious.  Most importantly, they have great wines.

Their selection is a little more limited than the larger wineries.  We opted simply for the reds and were provided: Pine Station Blend, Zin, Merlot, Cab Sauv, and a port.  The Pine Station is a great priced red blend of merlot, zin, and cab.  At $18 dollars, it is a great everyday wine or the perfect bottle to give as a gift from your napa trip to family and friends.  The Cabernet was really what caught my attention.  On the nose, you get a good bit of raspberry.  Unlike a lot of other cabs, the Milat is a little lighter without being too acidic.  Definitely give that a try.

In terms of cost, their bottles ranged from $18-36.  We ended up purchasing 3 bottles and our tasting fee was waived.  Our pourer was very kind and we had some great conversation with her.  She had a lot of insight about wine, the winery, and the history of Napa.

To address a few other yelp reviewers, not all wineries are the same.  Milat is a great tasting room where one can try wine and purchase it if one enjoys it.  Milat is not a tourist trap winery built on some sort of gimmick, they do not do tours, and this is not a stop to go to if you are planning to get wasted.  This is a great place to go if you enjoy great wine, a laid back atmosphere, and a personable host that really believes in their wines.

Hands down,  one of my favorite on my Napa trip.  It is located right in prime Napa location, so you have not excuses not to go here.

This small winery may not be the most flashy but it packs in the fun. The older guy who served us the wine was very funny and outgoing. I don't know his name but if you go there, you'll figure out who I'm talking about.
The tasting room is fairly small but there's a lot of wine to go around. The wines are good and taste pretty much like a decent bottle of wine should taste. With your wine, you get good doses of sarcasm and uncensored jokes from the guy behind the counter.
The tastings don't cost anything (big plus) and the wines are affordable. I recommend a stop here if you're heading through Napa and want to avoid the stuffier, larger, higher profile and more expensive wineries.

3-4 stars for the wine but 5  stars for the people. The tasting room is very casual and this is what a small, family owned winery should be like. Think the complete opposite of the Disneyland, commercial productions that you might find down the road. The owners are funny, informative, and always provide a good time. The tasting fee of 5$ is nothing and always refunded with purchase, the rest of the wines are super reasonable in price as well. I especially enjoy the chenin blanc (which I'm usually not a fan of and you won't find many places in Napa), and the port and chocolate sauce. We always leave with a bottle of these. Also mid $30's for a cab in this area of Napa is a great deal. We always bring family to this winery because it's just an enjoyable experience overall.

As a former Napkin, this is 0ne of my favorite places to come when I am visiting the other side of the hill, mainly because it's none of the pretentious crap that makes us true locals cringe at being party to.

Bob and Mike are some of the most fun brothers and winemakers you will ever meet.  The chenin blanc is amazing for a variety you don't see enough of here in the valley.

There desert wine is incredible, especially if you do it with the chocolate as well.  (But who can really turn down wine and chocolate I ask you?)

The merlot has an amazing cedar and pipe tobacco quality that seems to return year after year, telling me the terroir is coming through in the wine, and both are characteristics that I dig in a good red.

If you are in the area, or planning on coming to the area this is a MUST DO  on any list.  If need be - scratch the Castle, the picnic, the film tour the what have yous - this is the place you need to check out to see what true artisan winemaking is all about.

Also they have a beautiful bed and breakfast cottages - if you are looking for a place to stay up in the valley.  They are moderately priced, and there is more information on their website.

So - GO GO GO!  Check them out, oh and you can tell them that:

Never thought i'd find a great winery via Yelp but it happened!

I actually stayed at their cottage for 3 days over their first sunny weekend of the spring.  Beautiful view of the vineyards.  The room was simple and had just enough for you to enjoy the rest of napa, nothing too fancy.

Their tasting room was awesome! $5 for tasting of all 7 of their estate bottled wines.  Family owned, the brothers Mike and Bob are a hoot.

Definitely one of the few family owned wineries off of hwy-29.  Thanks for a fantastic weekend.

This winery on Highway 29 in Napa is a winery with an eclectic assortment of wines: Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon and producers approximately 3,500 cases per year.  The tasting fee is quite low - $5.00.  An easy in-and-out if you want to visit one last winery before you leave the valley.

I can't add much, except reaffirm that Mike is an awesome guy and his wines are great. Such a relaxed, laid-back winery. I hope that I can end up in Mike's position -- sweet life.

We will be back. I love patronizing places like this.

I truly enjoyed my visit here...our tasting room host was the most amusing of my trip, and the wine was very good. What I liked best was the price: $5 for the tasting, and the wines are really reasonable for the quality. I consider myself to have a refined palette, but not refined enough to warrant $70-$150 per bottle. Primarily, I DRINK my wine. I don't cellar it, I don't talk about it much...i just enjoy. I wouldn't say this was the BEST wine I had, but it was the best for the price...and this was the first place I was tempted to buy a case. Oh, and I hate port, but their port-style wine was quite good. Oh, and did I mention the guy pouring--hilarious! This would definitely be on my list of places to return to in Napa!

Mr. Milat gave us a private lecture on Wine Industry 101 for good one hour.  I didn't like his wines but that didn't matter.  I'd go back again and again to listen to his amusing stories.

Very nice, old, vintage family owned winery in Napa. Located just on the Hwy 29 strip, Milat gives wine tasters a great opportunity to stop and enjoy the less crazy, smaller and more exquisite valuable's that Napa has to offer. You get the home touch here, greeted by the owner couple and learn the history of their winery. I wanted to stay here for while but they had to close at 6. They even offer a guest house if you're interested in skipping downtown Napa and enjoy the serenity of the st. helena side of the valley.

I came here with a friend memorial day weekend.  It is on the main road in Napa. The tastings are five dollars and that amount is refunded if you buy wine.  We loved the chenin blanc!  We bought two bottles and finished one off the same day.  The servers are very friendly.  The only con is that the tasting room is very small with no tables or chairs.  Without a seating area, you feel like you are rushed through the tasting.  But I would go back just to purchase the chenin.  My friend also purchased the chocolate port which was yummy too.

This is cute, and one that probably often gets missed. I like that they give you LOTS of information on the tasting sheet... Case production, Brix, etc... Good wines. Small family-owned feel. Check it out.

The customer service here is awesome. It's a smaller, family owned winery so don't plan to come here with a large group. Tasting is $5 but you get your $5 back if you purchase a bottle. I'd recommend their Zinfandel and Cabernet. Milat can fit about 10-12 people comfortably at their tasting counter at a time.

Great place, super nice, unpretentious, and a really friendly owner....this was a great find.  Thanks, Yelp!  I was not a huge fan of any of their wines, but I loved coming in here anyway.  We wound up buying the chocolate port sauce which was delicious!  If you need a break from overpriced, stuffy places to taste, check this place out!
