I go to Milano's at least twice a week for the coldcuts and prepared foods.  Next to my apartment, it's my favourite place on the Upper East Side.

I regularly get their prosciutto and roast beef (SO GOOD!!) from the deli section.  ALL of the prepared foods are delicious and home-made and look appetizing (usually not the case!), my faves are the pesto tortellini and the broccoli rabe.

If Milano's had a produce section, I would never go food-shopping elsewhere.  It is brimming with the most delicious decadent foods and I love it with all of my heart.

Rude, overpriced, and I've actually had better tasting Italian deli delights.

My vote would be to continue your search elsewhere.

Milano is a perfect place to stop in and grab something for dinner when you don't feel like cooking and don't want to have something delivered.

They have a great selection of prepared foods and in the back cooler they have handmade pastas which are very good. Their sandwiches, as others have said are HUGE and great for an afternoon in the park.

They can be a bit pricey but when you account for the proportions it sort of evens out.

It's clear that everyone loves Milano's too, but I'm going to add my little rave too.  Milano is small but packed with the essential goodness for my Sunday afternoon indulgences of cheese, olives, bread (pumperknickle with onions is very good), fresh roast beef, and the sun dried tomato chicken salad.  I'm not kidding on calling this an indulgence...it ain't cheap, but I'm more than happy to keep them in business.  10128 wouldn't be the same without them.

Milano Market has a large selection of sandwiches and pastry, so I was really looking forward to this meal.  I ordered a sandwich on sea salt bread with fresh mozzarella, basil, tomato, pesto, avocado and for an additional dollar, roasted red peppers.  The sandwich was good, but all of us complained it was a little dry and mine definitely could have used a little more tomatoes and peppers. The sandwiches are fairly large though and could be made into two meals.

I also tried one of the cannolis from Milano Market.  While the filling was good, the shell was a little soggy - this could have been our fault though since we didn't immediately eat or refrigerate the cannoli when we got home.

I've been searching for a market like this on the UES and finally found it!  This place became our go-to on-the-way-to-the-park spot this summer.  Order a deli sandwich (to split, they're huge), a salad or 2 from the deli case (they all look amazing), grab a few cold beers from the fridge, and you're set for a perfect summer afternoon in Central Park.

They would have gotten 5 starts if it weren't for the rude new guy that served me the last time I was in there.  On top of being unpleasant, I ordered one of the wraps on their menu and later discovered the guy didn't make it right at all.  It was supposed to come with lots of trimmings - lettuce, tomato, some sort of sauce - and he had made me a completely plain wrap (basically just meat).  And I was charged more than the menu listed it at in the first place.  Just annoying when you're paying $9 for a sandwich!  I think it's kind of important that workers are familiar with their own menu!

Come to think of it... I don't really love any of the people that work there.  If this place hired a new workforce, it would be perfect!

milano is right across the street from my apt., so there's really no choice -- i have to frequent it.  even so, its a very good gourmet deli.  the sandwiches are fresh and very tasty.  i agree that they can be a bit dry, but you can easily fix that by asking for extra dressing on the side (free of charge).

they also have a pretty formidable selection of beer, including dogfish head ale, which stokes my embers (literally).

i like the girls who work behind the register (mostly because one of them only charges me $5 for a 6-pack of sierra nevada) but the place can get busy and waits to checkout can get pretty long.

A really good sandwich/Deli spot. They also have a whole area of 'sides' that are hard to choose from. I have gotten some 'shrimp salad' and a 'chicken salad' both of which were delicious. I've been here twice and have ordered the same sandwich, the #14, mozzarella & Prosciutto Di Parma with sweet peppers. As you can imagine, its great.

Living in the UES really sucks if you like sandwiches (cold). The only choices one has is either Subway or..um..Subway.  I'd rather eat a few fish heads and a fist full  of cold rice than eat at Subway, so any real addition to the list is greatly appreciated.

It also has a good selection of Beers and deserts, just about anything one would need for those days when you don't want to go out and just hang out at home. And since GTA4 just came out, I'm sure a lot of people would love to know about this place.. And they deliver.

The deli counter is a high end counter.  The prices for prepared items is on the high side, but are good.  The 'cold cuts' are all very fresh and delicious.  It is a rather small store, but packs in a lot of things.  You will see the breads as you walk by on the sidewalk, it smells so good because of that.  Large selection of oils, vinegars and other ingredients as well.

They also have a few TV screens on the deli counter, usually the Food Network http://www.yelp.com/bi..., which is a nice touch, maybe you'll get a last minute idea!
