Why is this place called a "Sweet Center" when they serve full-on meals? Amazing vegetarian food here - I didn't even miss my protein at all.

Five stars for the food - absolutely amazing (but do come here with somebody who can speak the language and order for you as I was thoroughly confused when looking at the wall-o-menu).

Minus one star because I did not enjoy ANY of their desserts. Ridiculously sweet (I guess it is true to their name) with strange textures. Do. Not. Want!

Am surprised at the high rating .... I usually trust Yelp ratings to be done by consumers and not by business owners writing reviews for themselves to attract more business. Milan rating is making me change my opinion

Infact I am even surprised that Milan is still in business for the food that they dish out, i went there after a year (not that my first exp was good). I ordered 3-4 dishes it ranged from average to horrible, neither the taste nor quality was good/edible.

They claim to be a Gujrati snack joint , serving fusion snacks like sizzlers, chinese dosas etc I enjoy that variety of food but sadly Milan food was not comparable to what I had expected.

I wouldnt recommend this to anybody

1. only place which reminds me of Rajkot,Gujarat (although owner may be from other part of gujarat)
2. REAL vegetarian food
3. it has little touch from Kenyan gujartis
4. we spent $50 for sweets on one of the diwali and every penny was worth it.

Very nice place and nice people. They serve Chevdo mixes, snacks, asian veggies, farsan., tandoori specialties, and south indian delicacies. The watermelony looking sweet thing tastes like nothing for 60 cents.
Their indian breads they make are all $2.50 each and $6 for a meal with the bread and sell dosa. They didn't show the price for the dosa and it made me sad. I don't really know much at all about indian sweets so I kept asking a few questions and the lady sounded irritated. Their garlic naan is good, but they burnt it only because I was either a non-indian or because they let it cooked a little longer..who knows. I'm planning to come back next week on a thurs to try out their dosa.

I have been here twice now with a co-worker.  I try to have an open mind, but I am just not a big fan of this place.  The menu is somewhat indecipherable to an indian food eating novice and the atmosphere is very cafeteria-like.  The owner is somewhat friendly.  I try to ask for a recommendation on what will be good, but healhty on the menu and take her word for it.  The first time, this yielded a paneer and creamy sauce with Naan on the side.  This time I got a greasy fried paneer wrapped in Naan.  Both dishes tasted great, but certainly were not healthy.  My friend ordered some kind of salad that was topped with fries and other fritters and stuff.

This place is always busy and the food is definitely very tasty, but I don't think I'll be eating there again!

Do you know fast food from Gujarat?

Gujarat is a state in the middle of India. The food there is vegetarian. A place to explore at lunch if you are in the neighborhood and want to make a quick trip to India with something different.

I had dinner @ Milan  a few years ago, it was my first time and I knew I was not going back . It was filthy, dirty, chaotic, and the food was tasteless. After we had had dinner, we ordered some sweets to go, and were forced to make the woman behind the counter weigh the order again because she overcharged us , and there was no price list  around anywhere! She admitted her mistake . When we drove off the parking lot, we noticed  samosa ( or maybe batata vada) filling , in large uncovered  cooking-pots, on the kitchen back-door, exposed to the smoke and dust of the passing vehicles. The  dinner I had just had revisited my mouth !!
That was a few years ago.
Recently, I had some out of town Gujju friends, who wanted homestyle veg lunch and they recommended Milan because of the reviews on YELP!
I believe in giving second chances. So off we went.
What a surprise, it is still filthy, dirty, chaotic. The tacky menus hanging from everywhere glued to other menus hanging from somewhere, a wall of picture menus on one side,  still greet hungry souls. The counter had open containers of jalebis and fafda, sitting at nose level. Styrofoam cups in plastic bags, plastic forks and spoons in a cardboard box, a fountain-soda machine used to dispense warm water, overflowing trashcan inside the dining area and USED paper napkins and spoons on the floor.
Our group ordered thalis, chaat and  sizzler.
The thalis :  Entrees were all brown in color, except the dal which was light brown. All loaded with sugar , my friends liked that. The dhokla in the thali was awfully dense and dry
Chaats : Tasted Ok,  yogurt and chutneys were chilled
Sizzler : Orange colored Tikka masala sauce with pasta and other veg stuff, could not figure out what ( & why) it was!!  The sizzler plate was lined with the pasta stuck to it.
Veg chowmein :  tasted Ok , was hot and the saving grace
Frankly, New India Chaat cafe in the same hood  has much better food, service and cleanliness standards.
If sugary entrees are your thing, go to Milan. But do not look around or at the floor once you are there.
As for the gujarati taste, well it was just not it .

The variety at Milan is really impressive but sadly the food is just not that great.... They do have a few dishes that are good - the samosas are pretty good, the vada pav is not too bad either but you get the feeling your food's been lying around for a while... Most of their food tends to be oily so if you tend to associate veggie food with healthy  eating - you are wrong.

Considering that they have a steady stream of customers, you'd think they try to up the cleanliness factor .

I agree with the other yelper when he said New India Chaat Cafe was a much better option...atleast for lunch/dinner.

I go to Milan when I crave junk food...

i was at Milan over the holiday time with my family and guests. At first look i said wow...!!!!, the place was full of Egor people eating and what looked to be having fun..
when we finally got round to ordering we ordered a mixture of sizzlers and some chaats.
let me tell you about the sizzlers.!!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD.  Never have we seen this kind of sizzling item. it was flavorful to the max. if ever you want to try something new and mind blowing then the sizzler is the dish.
The chaats were really tasty too. the wonderful thing is that you can order your dish to taste requirements.
Milan has a menu nearly ranging to 200 items so do your homework on what you want.!!
they serve so many different regions of Indian foods under one roof its amazing that they are all available every day...
if you like Indian food Milan is the place to be

I have wanted to eat the food at this place for literally 9 or 10 years... ever since I was a young high schooler taking voice lessons at SMSMA.  But every time I thought of it, I was either 1) not hungry 2) had no money 3) they were closed.  But today.... TODAY! was the day, and a darn good one in so many respects.  Free coffee with grandpa and his cronies at Starbucks... check.  Free books from Cupertino Library... check.  Free tea samples at Valley Fair's Teavana... check.  Free facial and makeover at Bare Escentuals... check.  Enough free stuff to compose a song about.  And then! glory of glories, I was hungry, and driving down Calaveras with $8 in my Hello Kitty purse.

"MILAN SWEET CENTER!" I yelled, and made a sharp right on Main Street.  I parked and ran inside, where I was heartened by the masses of Indian folk inside getting their eat on.  The menu looked brilliant, just amazing.  This WILL be followed by "Milan Sweet Center: Episode II."  Because I only had veggie samosas today (and only spent $2).

They were just the right amount of spicy.  They smelled like garam masala.  The green minty sauce was cold, the peas and potatoes were hot, my momma didn't want any so I got to eat both, and I was happy.

So very happy.  I love you, Milan Sweet Center.  We will be together again.

EDIT:  I am sorry to say: watch out for this place.  Sometimes I go here just for samosas, and I get them, but I somehow end up getting charged twice as much as the $2 mentioned above (that's $4 for those of you who aren't so good at math).  And the chai is really tasty but it's $1.50 for a tiiiiiiny cup.  Well maybe not tiny but it's small.  AND I bought dal here, for $3.50, and I got about 2/3 cup.  I thought about pitching a fit but there was a big line behind me, oh, and me and the guy behind the counter were barely able to communicate.  Crazy white girl wants dal, doesn't want to pay full price!  THAT'S PRETTY MUCH IT.

OMG!  so much more than a "Sweet Center"... it does have a bakery, but the chaat is awesome!  love the chole batura, and there are always new items appearing on the whiteboard.

Milan is packed with high-tech folks at lunchtime.  i kinda feel left out when i forget to wear my badge 8-P  Expect super-casual eats - as in, we sit on plastic lawn chairs and you're eating off of "paper or plastic".

The best Indian snack food ever! Everything is veggie, so you can bring your vegetarian homies and nosh on everything from samosas to sizzling plates full of things I can't really identify or make sense of [I didn't know Indian cuisine included bow-tie pasta and tofu slices in what tastes like a  smoky cheese sauce] but are still ridiculously delicious. I always order the paneer tikka - naan that is accompanied with paneer floating in sauce as well as two yogurt-based sauces, one being a green one that i can't identify as well as one that is flavored with mango puree. The other thing I order is this salad that has pieces of naan, lettuce, onions, and even french fries, and is so addictive. I don't know how they can call this shit healthy, but I don't care, it's so good. Go. Go. GOOOOOOOOOO!

We tried  samosas, stuffed pepper and a few sweets today. The stuffed pepper was awesome. The sweets were good. The filling of the samosas tasted good but the crust was very thick  which made the overall taste of samosas a little bad.
