Mike's. Hmm, what to say.  Affordable dining is hard to find in  Langley and Mike's is affordable. And they serve breakfast all day....and it's a good breakfast.  It's not bad food...it's Family food, as advertised. But served in a strange environment, the place is very....sad.

Entering Mike's one encounters an empty space, Mike's Ice Creamery is in one corner while the rest of the space is unused, nobody there to greet customers. Across the room is the door to the restaurant,  a long, skinny space with walls painted bright yellow. Mike's features a nice menu, many options and a list of specials.

Our waitress was especially sad. Too young to look so sad and worn down by the world. No eye contact. She didn't check back after bringing the food. Didn't check back for refills.  Didn't bring the check, a co-worker had to get it for us.  I get it...small town, tourist town, trapped with limited possibilities. Still, how about a smile? Acknowledgment of my existence? Even rudeness might have been good, they I would have know she cared about something. And it wasn't just me, I watched her interactions with the other customers (the place wasn't busy) and her expression never changed. Also, she said EYE-talian dressing. I didn't think anybody under 60 said EYE-talian, but I digress.
Mike's menu had a an announcement  about  a new manager bringing an exciting energy to the place. She's got a big job ahead of her.

The food at Mike's was decent but nothing more. It's affordable but one might be better served to pay more at one of the other restaurant's in Langley. But breakfast anytime...that's hard to beat, even if one has to endure the strange surroundings at Mike's.

I've been here a few times for breakfast - and it was just mediocre. I know they're going for the "home-cooked" atmosphere in here, but the food is actually worse than what I've gotten at some dive bars.

Really the only reason to stop into Mike's is if it's a hot day and you want some ice cream - as they have a ton of different flavors and cone options.

We tried to eat at the Braeburn down the street but they warned us the wait may be 1.5 hours. So instead, we tried Mike's. It was busy, especially there was a relay race going on (we were racing as well). The wait for a table took quite a while. I suppose it was understandable given the unexpectedly busy demand, but their waitstaff wasn't nice at all. Several times we thought they totally forgot about us.

Anyways, after half an hour of waiting we finally got our tables. We were STARVING and promptly ordered our food. Time went by and there was no sign of food, at least not toward our direction. An hour later, I asked our waitress the status of our food and she unapologetically said their kitchen's griddle is very small and cannot handle the current workload. I looked around and only about 85% of the tables are seated. How can your kitchen not be staffed or equipped to handle even 85% of your tables??

Finally, after 1.5 hours of waiting, the food came. One might expect food that took an hour and a half of waiting was worthy of such. No luck. I ordered El Diablo omelet with fried jalapenos. It was no more than typical jarred jalapenos battered and fried. And they only gave me 7 pieces! Hash brown was mediocre as was the toast.

If our group wasn't so tired from running, we might have just taken off to eat elsewhere. Mike's Place was definitely not worth the money nor the time. Definitely NOT recommended.

If you miss the cuisine you and your roommates cooked up in college (think budget, newbie cooking skills, etc...) then Mike's is your place. Went to Mike's for my first and last time over the weekend. I know there are a ton of other great eateries in Langley but we were stuck in that purgatory between brunch and dinner when most places shuttered their doors at 3. We were starving and needed to eat and Mike's was open. That's as calculated as our decision was.

There were a few folks dining so I thought that was a decent sign, but then again perhaps they were in the same boat as us. Service wasn't the best...our server couldn't recall that I asked for my toast dry (came buttered) and I asked for no sour cream (my eggs came with it glopped on). I think they used Pace salsa on my eggs and cheap yellow cheese. Seriously, it did take me back to college. JP fared a bit better ordering the veggie burger.

There is nothing about this place that makes me want to go back (including their Seattle-like prices!  I had brunch the day before at Atlas and it was less expensive and 100 times better). Save yourself and go for the pizza joint down the street if you find yourself hungry in Langley between lunch and dinner. You will thank me later.

I wish I would have seen the other reviews BEFORE I ate here, not after. I had a bad experience all around. The normal restaurant seating was totally full so they put me in cafe section where they forgot about everyone. The chicken picatta was strongly suggested by the waitress so I choose that. After ordering I went to the restroom and came back to find somebody else seated at my table and my drink gone. They moved the other couple and reseated me. I should have left at that point but it was 6:30 on a Sunday night in October so not much else was open. After a long delay, the food was delivered and chicken was ok but pasta was plain spaghetti that was cold with little sauce. I never saw my waitress at my table again. She didn't check on me, nobody came to refill drinks. Finally after being done for 15 minutes I went up to the front where I was ignored for 5 more minutes. This is the first time I haven't left a tip and some of the worst service I've ever had. They had plenty of staff, they were just more preoccupied with decorating for Halloween than serving customers. To top it all off, I got sick from something I ate there and was up most of the night with a stomach ache. Try one of the other cafes instead. Don't let the free wifi sticker lure you inside. That was the only positive part of my experience.
