Don't leave Nashvegas until you have had Mike's Ice Cream! I love this little shop, every time I find myself in this neck of the woods I cannot resist the kitschy giant icecream cones beckoning me to pig out!
If you're a caffeine fiend like me, you will love the coffee flavor. It's like a frozen latte, only WAY better MmMmMm *Yelp told me I can't make a heart shape but if I could there would be one right here* -

Talk about a guilty pleasure! Just the number of awesome flavors they have, makes this a place I want to go to every day. It's probably a good thing that I'm an hour away, because I would quickly gain some extra pounds.
In addition to ice cream, you can also order hot beverages which this time of year (winter) is also rather nice.
Lets get back to the ice cream...Om nom nom nom....
I want some now. It's hard to describe ice cream, so I suggest you stop by and get some! -

If you like Red Velvet cake, definitely try their Red Velvet Ice Cream.
It has chunks of cream cheese icing and cake in it. The ice cream is smooth and not too sweet. The Pumpkin Ice Cream is tasty as well. It was creamy, smooth, and there were pieces of graham crackers in it.
At around $3 for a small cup, they are very generous with the serving. The employees here are friendly and quick. There is quite a bit of seating available as well.
Mike's is a great place to visit for a cool treat. -

I just ate ice cream at 10 in the morning, and Mike made me do it!
This quaint and cute, old-fashioned ice cream parlor hails back to the days when quality service mattered. Each of their twenty-something ice cream flavors is "handmade" (although I'm not...quite sure what that means), and their frozen cappuccino is freshly composed each day, in house. Pastries and touristy-treats are also available, although those are provided by outside vendors. Service does take a little while, since each drink is made to order-- I guess you could say, "with love." The ice cream is worth the wait, though!
Perhaps Mike knew that I was a tourist, or, perhaps I am just that cute *wink*, because I was served a scoop of Tennessee Fudge so generous that Texas would be jealous! It was smooth and creamy, but not gluey, like some other gourmet ice creams can be. I also sampled the Pistachio, Red Velvet, and Moose Tracks, which were also delicious.
Yes, it was still so early in the morning that people were just barely arriving at work. Didn't matter. I was on vacation, and on vacation, what girl doesn't enjoy a fun and indulgent treat? -

My best friend and I were in search of a morning kick-start when we walked by Mike's Ice Cream. Which would you like? Caffeine or sugar, they have both!
I walked in and felt as if I was thrown into a scene from Grease. There's so much fun going on in the decor, it makes me want to throw a sock-hop here one day!
I ordered a frozen coffee which they blend themselves and it was deliciously strong and perfectly frozen. YUMMERS. I also got a taste of their Red Velvet flavor which is something I'll be SURE to order when I go back again.
Morning or night, hot or cold, if you're craving a sweet treat then make a stop into Mike's, you won't be disappointed! -

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would!! I LOVE THIS ICE CREAM SHOP!!!
They have so many great flavors of ice cream, and delicious concoctions as well. Two nights in a row, I ordered the s'mores sundae (yes, you read that correctly) with Tennesee fudge ice cream! It was so delicious! It was crushed graham crackers on the bottom, ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate, chocolate sauce, and candy topping. Seriously amazing!
Over the course of the four days we were there, I got ice cream here five times. Yes, it was that serious!!
I highly recommend anything having to do with this place. SO good. You won't be disappointed! -
Review from Erin H.
I like Mike's. There is always an assortment of interesting flavors. I tend to be drawn to the more unusual ones that you don't most other places. Some flavors are better than others, but really I think that's a personal preference issue. So far my favorite is the banana pudding ice cream that I had maybe a year ago. Yesterday I opted for the key lime pie based on the Yelp reviews, and while it was ok, it wasn't anywhere near my favorite. I walked away thinking I should have tried the red velvet. But, that's the risk you take unless you continually order the same flavor. And, with so many options, where's the fun in that?
I would echo other reviews and say to stick with the "square ice cream bins" as those are the homemade ones. -
Review from Safa S.
I love this ice cream place!!! They have fun flavors like Red Velvet Cake and Rum Raisin. They also have nice selection of hot chocolates for the cold nights/days. We tried their mint hot chocolate, which was awesome.

On a hot day, this is the place to be in Downtown Nashville! Just needed a quick (and cool) pick-me-up, so I ordered the Pina Colada milkshake. Divine!
The place was busy with families, couples, and friends enjoying a tasty treat. Touristy, but definitely something to try! -
Review from Todd R.
Woohoo! Yelp does it again! What a fantastic place! I tell you, I am no longer afraid of going places I'm not familiar with anymore because Yelp has yet to steer me wrong. If you have a smart phone and you do not have a Yelp app, or do have it and don't use it, what's wrong with you man??? (-in my Chris Tucker voice!)
This place is what local legendary places is all about and what Yelp has helped me to discover. The atmosphere in this area of town is great, somewhat, touristy, but authentic. The place itself is about as big as a chicken nugget, but the place itself is clean and well organized. Not only is this fantastic ice cream, but also a full fledged coffee shop with all of the foo foo drinks you could want. They have some neat little displays and murals on the wall. One is a fountain that looks as if it's poring into a soda glass from the soda fountain mural. Quite inventive and cute. They also have their own T-shirts for sale as well with their famous logo and location of Nashville, TN. I bought one.
Finally, the ice cream itself here is great. It's not too frozen so it melts while you eat it tastes better. Doesn't have any of that freezer burn smell or taste to it. They also have some pretty crazy flavors, including a banana flavored one that went fantastically with a scoop of chocolate. From what I understand, the ice cream is hand made, and you can taste the quality of the ingredients.
Well, if we journey anywhere close to Nashville anytime in the future, I will have to stop again here. There are just too few of these legitimately local places that are too good here in the heart of the USA to pass it by. You will not regret any time spent here!Listed in: Cool Off

Hello creamy goodness, why have you been hiding from me for so long? I had heard about Mike's Ice Cream but never managed to get downtown to try it. I mean, I can hardly convince myself that driving through all of that traffic on Broadway AND finding parking just for ice cream is worth it. (I know, you ice cream fanatics might be hating me for saying that) But in all seriousness, I just don't have the patience for that. But, I was already out downtown with some friends when we got hungry and decided to stop in for a treat. Oh my goodness--delicious. Great flavor selection and everything is so creamy. So deliciously creamy and smooth like they bred their cows for creamyness. Yum.
Great hours too. Perfect for a near-midnight treat during your night on the town.Listed in: Dessert Spots

Review from Kat M.
This ice cream place is very cute and tasty. They were generous with the scoop sizes and overall, the hubby and I were happy. I was a bit annoyed when the man helping us put a limit to the number of samples we tried between us to 3, when we ordered 4 scoops of ice cream. It wasn't like we were not ordering each thing we tried. I found this off putting as we were ordering scoops as we went. I did not appreciate the attitude.
The hubby had the chocolate obsession and chocolate peanut butter in a cookie cone. Both these flavors were very tasty, but the peanut butter stood out. The cookie cone was not tasty. It reminded me of that children's cereal, but much worse. It was superbly hard and tasteless.
I had the red velvet cake and the birthday cake. The red velvet was delicious. I greatly enjoyed it. The birthday cake was the 4th flavor that I was not allowed to try. I liked it, but found it over sweet. I still ate it all.
We were filled with heavy cream and took off to walk it off.
Overall, this is a good ice cream shop. It is certainly not the best I have ever had. The reviewers who felt this was the best ice cream they have ever had need to take a trip to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard during the summer. Here, the homemade ice creams shops line the street and each place is better than the next. -
Review from David O.
Mike's is easily my favorite Ice Cream shop in Nashville. It has only one serious problem. IT'S DOWNTOWN. No reasonably sane person would come downtown just to visit it.
Nutter Butter Ice Cream? Yes Please. Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream? Even Better? A large selection of the Ice Creams are hand made on site and you can taste the difference.
I guess ultimately its a benefit to my waistline that I can only come here on rare occasions with family or friends when I am downtown.
If you pass by, be sure to stop in! -
Review from Ally A.
i shed tears last night...real, salty tears...when i realized that nashville, and, in turn, mike's ice cream, was a 45 minute drive and i would not be able to go daily. TEARS, I TELL YOU!
this joint is ROCKSTAR! i got the dark chocolate heath and my girlfriend got the caramel pie...i will carry the memory of that ice cream with me for life! they have an awesome assortment of flavors, not your typical cold stone or baskin robbins selection.
PLUS, they currently have hot chocolate from around the world, which means i FINALLY got the mexican hot chocolate i have been CRAVING for a year, ever since i left arizona! a little bite to it, but not the overwhelming cayenne heat i've been getting from the mixes i've bought to try to get that flavor profile back.
i will be back...again and again! i wish i was there now...Listed in: fort campbell adventures, Music City eats!

Mmmm. I love Mike's Ice Cream espresso. The perfect pick-me-up after a long day at the office to gear up for a musical journey at The Ryman or Bridgestone Arena.
Get a double-shot, enjoy the deliciousness, and be ready to rock before you even reach 4th Ave./Broadway. -

I only give Mike's Ice Cream five stars because there weren't any more stars to give. I adore pistachio ice cream - but obviously wasn't prepared for the quality provided by Mikes. They have achieved what every 'homemade ice cream' shop strives for - absolute perfection. This was the creamiest, most satisfying frozen delight that I've ever experienced. Whole pistachios perfectly salted found in abundance throughout the entire frosty treat? Unbelievable Thank you, Mikes - for making the two hour trip worthwhile. We will be back to Nashville, specifically to visit your shop.

I scream for Mike's Ice Cream! We happened upon this ice cream parlor when walking through downtown Nashville & are so glad we stopped in. Make sure you pick an ice cream from a square box because those are the homemade flavors. Being a huge fan of chocolate peanut butter combinations, I chose the peanut butter cup ice cream and might have just discovered my favorite version as the ice cream itself had a great combination of chocolate and peanut butter rather than just chocolate ice cream with globs of peanut butter in it.
My friend tried the cookie cone, and while not sure at first, said it ended up going really well with her Rocky Road ice cream which she loved because of the abundance of ingredients.
You will definitely get your money's worth with the nice size scoops served here. -
Review from Laura S.
While wandering the strip in Nashville (in 30-degree weather) and happened upon this ice cream shop, which was exciting because it was around 10:00 and we really wanted dessert but had despaired of anything being open. We didn't have very high expectations, but this place was surprisingly great. The staff were really chill and friendly. My $4 sundae turned out to be the size of my head, for serious. 3 scoops of ice cream on top of a warm brownie with hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts and a cherry. It was so incredibly good. You should share it with someone, since wasting this felt like a crime. It was impossible to finish, though.
They also advertise "hot chocolates from around the world," so if it is the middle of winter and you are NOT crazy, you are not stuck having ice cream for dessert. Win-win for everybody.Listed in: Ain't No Place I'd Rather Be

I am really overwhelmed by the amount of frozen yogurt shops that are springing up everywhere (especially between Broadway and West End - yikes!). I do love my fro-yo, but sometimes I need a some real ice cream in my life. (Especially with the growing prices of self-serve yogurt, non-identifiable soft serve, and other 'yogurt like' desserts that can't even be called yogurt.. sheesh!)
What brings me back to Mike's is their delicious red velvet cake ice cream. It is full of pieces of real red velvet cake AND cream cheese frosting pieces. DELICIOUS! I don't mind throwing a quarter into a parking meter so I can run in to Mike's and pick up a single scoop. It is totally worth it. -
Review from Zeb M.
Mike's always seems to be packed with tourists and families, but don't let it stop you from coming in to get something sweet when you're on Broadway. I can't remember which flavors of ice cream I've had the two times I've been if that tells you anything - excellent ice cream, but not the best in town. However, the nostalgia you feel upon walking in and the friendly staff still deserves four stars in my book.

I had my first egg cream here, and unfortunately for my waistline... it will not be my last. Those egg creams are good. Too good.
Quaint and relaxed, feels like an old-fashioned ice cream parlour. Loved the murals! Mike's Ice Cream Fountain is so cute, can I put it in my pocket and bring it back to Chicago? -

I had a few tasters then settled on the Red Velvet cake and Key Lime pie. I was dissappointed there was more cream cheese frosting on the RV but was over the moon about the Key Lime!!!! Even if i think it is a bit expensive i will still go back!

We all scream for Mike's Ice Cream! It was so good. This is not my favorite ice cream place ever, but its very good and as good as it gets, or at least that I could find, while I was in Nashville. It was so hot the week I was visiting Nashville and this was a true joy to find. Creamy ice cream in fantastic flavors... try the nutter butter! Its a must try if you love ice cream!

Holly shit, red velvet ice cream????? Where has this flavor been hiding? And it was real red velvet--not just chocolate with red dye. The yellow cake batter was heaven sent as well. Went here everyday while in Nashville. Yum!

Review from Josh S.
Mmmm.. Tasty. I opted for some ice cream after being considerably underwhelmed by my lunch.
I opted for a scoop of the Red Velvet and a scoop of the Cookies & Cream. Both were pretty good and plentiful. While the Red Velvet wasn't that invocative of Red Velvet cake it was still pretty tasty on its own. The Cookies & Cream could have used a bit more cookies but was still pretty good.
Definitely stop by if you have lunch nearby as they are warm and welcoming and have some pretty great flavors. -

Yummy! And I'm talking about both the delicious ice cream, waffle cones, sugar cones *and* the yummy youngin's working behind the counter of Mike's! Now I won't go repeating my age, but I can imagine the hotness that I engaged in a flirt-off with last weekend might have been born around the time I graduated high school ... Just sayin'.

Not sure I can give a 5 star for somewhere that I only went once? But the ice cream was fantastic. I had butter pecan. Huge hunks of pecan, no skimping on the portion size. Sweet, rich, indulgent. The cone was lovely crisp yet substantial to hold the ice cream in without it falling apart.
Staff were busy ( CMA fest+ very hot outside) but sweet and swift serving.
Ive never had ice cream as good as this before, and this takes the top spot for " best ice cream I ever had" . Thank you to Mike and everyone who works in Mikes Ice cream.
A joy. -

Cute little Ice Cream parlor right on Broadway. They have pretty unique flavors, my favorite was the Red Velvet! It was delicious!
The staff are nice and it has a laid-back feel to it. A lot of locals come there and we were able to talk to a Nashville native about the changes that have been happening on Broadway... that was fun. -

On a hot day in Nashville, with the sweat dripping down your back, and a belly full of barbeque - ice cream is the only thing that will do. This place is an oasis in a desert of ribs and bluegrass. The fact that the ice cream is so good (and some of the flavors are pretty unique) is just a bonus.
I love me some ice cream. -

Such a cute little shop!
With one taste of my mint chocolate chip ice cream in a cake cone, I was instantly transported back to when I was a little kid. No mix ins or anything exciting-just simple and real. -

After contemplating going to the Hard Rock for dessert (give us a break, my friend had a gift certificate and we wanted to save money), we popped into Mike's first. The tiny place was packed and the line was long but after a glance at the menu we decided to stay. The line moved quickly and I got myself a peanut butter/chocolate shake. Slurp slurp slurp.. heyyy.. where'd it go? I downed that baby with a quickness to cool down from the hot Tennessee sun. It was a good portion and mixed well aka.. not too milky, not too thick.
The staff was friendly. I love that the cashier said that the flower in my hair was "still cool" even after I told her it was fake. And like all cute little places, they had a list of celebs that have walked through. I just recognized Jimmy Fallon and some other country stars on the list.
They're open till 2AM (summer hours?), so I can see how'd they be popular amongst the bar crowd on Broadway.. but even if they didn't rely on the late night bunch, people would definitely still stop by for a good scoop! -
Review from John G.
Virginia Beach, VA
Mike's is a nice old time looking spot in the middle of busy Broadway Avenue. There isn't a lot of room inside to sit and eat, and on a hot day you will want to squeeze in there to finish your soda or ice cream.
A bit of a smaller draw is the Java bar that is also inside. Small soda stands and ice cream joints like this have a real hard time surviving in today's high-rent world, so supporting them makes you feel as good as the feeling in your belly when you are done eating there. -
Review from Ted C.
Ice cream in the dead of winter? Yes, it was a lot colder in Nashville than I thought it would be and I only packed t-shirts and yes I was freezing on Music Row but why not get in some ice cream, especially when it's cold? It's my version of joining the polar bear club.
The inside looks like an old school soda shop which is nice. I always wanted to see what one looked like and Mike's fits the bill, even the soda jerk mural on the wall.
Decor only goes so far though, if you come to a place that says it is an ice cream fountain you better have the goods to back it up. I got the pistachio and peanut butter in a cone. My friend for nutter butter and the raspberry cheesecake. My peanut butter scoop was a little too thick, it was really like frozen peanut butter, delicious but really heavy. However, my pistachio was dead on though I thought it was flavorful but still light.
I tried the butter butter and it was what I was looking for in the peanut butter flavor. After reading the reviews and finding it's one of their homemade flavors I know why it was so good. The raspberry cheesecake also stood out and was jealous of the choice she made.
I would normally award three stars but something stuck out to me during my visit, at the front of the store was a gentleman who obviously hadn't bought anything in a while and was disheveled looking. It was cold out and the staff and owners had it in their hearts to let this man stay out of the cold and warm up as long as their doors were open, that should stand for something. -

While making the 14 hour drive from Ohio to Louisiana, my husband and I made a stop in Nashville, Tennessee. Great city...wish we had more time to actually visit. But despite the quick stop, we found some good food and (of course) made a stop for ice cream. We decided to make a visit to Mike's Ice Cream & Coffee Bar on the famous Broadway.
The store was small and the decorations plain, but there was a line out the door! I decided to order the Rocky Road ice cream and my husband ordered the Nutter Butter flavor. Both tasted like custard-style ice creams (I didn't actually remember to ask). The chocolate was not very chocolaty (I like my chocolate ice cream dark and rich) and the ice cream had a heavy, dense consistency (meaning it kind of stuck to my tongue and throat...don't like that so much), but overall the ice cream delivered the rocky road taste I was looking for with the right amount of mix-ins. I actually enjoyed my husband's ice cream better than my own. His ice cream had a rich peanut butter flavor with a ripple of peanut butter and peanut butter cookies throughout. Better choice! Overall a good experience, and a good stop if you are checking out the night life of Nashville. -
Review from Dina D.
I can't pass a homemade ice cream shop anywhere, so I had to try Mike's before a night of honky tonkin'. The space is cute and looks like an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. It has a tin ceiling like the old buildings used to have and along the wall, there's a cute depiction of a soda shop man pouring seltzer into a mug (with real running water). I got two flavors--pumpkin pie and red velvet cake. Both were really good. I love pumpkin at this time of year, and I've never had red velvet cake ice cream. I liked it a lot and wish I could get it locally!

it was snowing. so of course, i had to get some ice cream. this being my first time in the snow, I was well prepared with a thin cardigan, leggings and some high heeled ankle boots that only served to elevate the risk of sliding on my ass in the snow.
I walked about 8 blocks from my hotel in my ill-fitted snow garb to the warmest, coziest ice cream shop I have ever been in. my husband had some hot chocolate....which they have about half a dozen different kinds.
however, the majority of my greatness of this review is based off of one flavor: red velvet cake. Now, I have to tell you, every red velvet cake I've ever had has been dry and not that appetizing. Like its supposed to taste good, but it doesn't. However, on this occasion-- this flavor left me begging for more and I came back for a second trip down and up hill in my skimpy snow ware for red velvet ice cream.
amazing.
