My dad used to take us to this Mike's every week when we'd come in from Portland to visit grandma. It's exactly the same as it was 30+ years ago. But if your making some of the best greasy food in the nation (as I remember Mike's even getting a vote for one of the best burgers in the country in some national magazine, I don't remember which) you stick with what works.
My favorite is the Guacamole, Swiss, Bacon Burger. And don't even try to clean yourself with the dinky little napkins they provide. Just wait 'til your done and then do your best with a wad of as many as you can hold after your last bite, 'cause these burgers are messy. Wiping as you eat is futile.
Mike's has a suprisingly large and diverse menu. At least bigger than you'd expect from a place like this. The shakes are as good as you'll find anywhere. I'm serious, ANYWHERE. And for a big boy like me, I'm elated that they make them in large.
You have the choice of sitting outdoors (The dining room is as dinky as their napkins) on the picnic benches they provide on the premesis, it's cool to catch a train that runs right next to the parking lot there.

Be advised, this isn't fast food. They start cooking only after you've ordered and they don't seem to hurry. But that's what makes it better than most I guess.

My only knocks that prevent a 5 star rating is that the prices are far from reasonable and the burgers/servings are much smaller than I'd like. But make it a special occasion that the whole family will love. You won't be disappointed.

The transition from summer to fall can be difficult, especially for a sun whore like me.  Gone are the warm evenings spent on the back deck barbequing with close friends.  As the air gets colder, the clothes get heavier. Drinks on the various patios around Portland become distant memories, only to be revived after 9 months of cold wet weather incubation.  The bike rack gets removed from the back of the car, patio furniture moved into the garage, and the crock pot replaces the outdoor grill.

Yet each year this difficult transition is eased by a few recurrent gifts:

Seasonal Winter Beers

And

Mike's Drive Inn's Pumpkin Milkshakes!

Thank you, Mike's.  Your cold, creamy pumpkin goodness makes me think that I might be able to make it through another cold rainy day.

Pros:
Quick, friendly service.
They took their time on the delivery, which means freshly cooked goods.
Reasonably priced.  The combo basket gets you fries, a medium drink and either (really good) potato salad or cole slaw (Edit: for $2.95 extra forgot that part)

Cons:
Ground buffalo is just dry ground beef (the regular beef is pretty good)
John Tesh show on the radio.
