We had the taco platter for two. It was actually very good and we had left overs. I thought everything on the menu was very over priced and the restaurant could use some decor changed. They use horrible lighting and doesn't feel warm and cozy.

Corona, CA
We've been here many times, going back to their original location on the other side of 6th St. Everyone calls it Miguel's Sr., because they have several smaller fast food restaurants called Miguel's Jr. (there are two in Corona.). The food has always been good (love their bean and cheese burrito!). The hot sauce they serve is good and hot, and works well as a hot sauce you can add to your food. But it doesn't cut it as a salsa for chips they bring to your table - unless you enjoy dipping chips into hot sauce.
The restaurant is very nice (they have a nice room just off the main seating area that can seat about 12 - great for family gatherings), but over the years, the portions continue to get smaller, and the prices continue to go up. (The reason for only a 3 star rating, and the reason why we don't go there anymore.) In these tough economic times, some restaurants cut portions or raise prices, but Miguel's has been doing both for far too long. Miguel's Jr. is less expensive but they suffer from the same "cut portions & raise prices" syndrome. Luckily, there are several other good Mexican restaurants around, but I do miss the food at Miguel's Sr. and Jr. -

Miguel's Jr.'s big brother. Pretty much the same exact food as Miguel's Jr., but at double the price. You do get complimentary chips and salsa from what I remember, but I really don't think it's worth the hike in price.
The service is good, it looks real nice and clean inside, but save yourself some money and some time by going to one of the several Miguel's Jr. spots scattered around Corona.
If you do hit this place up and it happens to be your birthday, let 'em know. They'll hook it up with a free dessert! Some of the best flan I've ever tasted. -

I return to Corona once a year, and this time, I made sure to have my share of good ol' Corona-style Mexican food before returning to Chicago. All I can say is that nothing compares to the El Garbage at Miguel's. It's filled with your choice of beef/pork, guacamole, lettuce, sour cream, tomato, salsa, beans, cheese, rice and..likely 600+ calories; I'll know for sure once Miguel's discloses nutritional information on their website. But it's my childhood favorite, which is saying a lot, considering that I pride myself on being a health freak nowadays. If food is served with love, which Miguel's does, then I'm a total sucker for it. As for the -1 star? Their nachos were a bit stale the day I went, but El Garbage always steals my heart. Keep it up, Miguel's! I want to be able to take my children here when I grow up!

Mine as well go to El Torito.
Don't get me wrong. The food was good, but a lil more expensive then wanting to pay. And our waitress was a lil spacey. Eh, so - so. -

I've been to Miguels plenty of times over the past 15-20 years. I really struggled between 2 stars and 3 stars, so would give it a 2.5 stars if I could. I'm VERY picky about Mexican food because I grew up with it and have eaten at more Mexican restaurants than I could ever count. I'm also a very good Mexican chef at home, having cooked well over 80 different types of Mexican food from different styles.
Here's what Miguels gets right:
* Happy Hour: M-F from 4pm to 7pm
Fri and Sat they have it from 9pm to Close
Fri and Sat from open until 3:00 pm.
So Miguels is a good place to do happy hour. The bar is a decent size, it's got BOOTHS, the bar is pretty long, and the drinks that I've had there have been pretty good. The service has been pretty consistent too. There are 4 flat screen tvs to watch if you're into sporting events.
Where Miguels has really let me down over the past couple of years is the food. People are not dumb, they can TASTE quality and home made versus, well, not. I've been giving this place more chances because it's conveniently located by a good friend's house and this location has a lot of nostalgia for both of us. But the food quality was a real let down on this day.
I immediately noticed that the portions were incredibly small. Beans were served in a small cup (a really small cup) and the rice was a small scoop. The enchiladas I ordered were very mediocre, with a sauce that did not taste like any enchilada sauce I've ever had or made. The salsa that came with the chips; honestly, was it made in "New York City?" if so then it "really chaps my hide". (Taken from an old Pace Picante commercial). It did not taste fresh.
In all seriousness, it was really disappointing because I like Miguels for its good service, the great-tasting margaritas, and the location. I will still come here for happy hour, but when I want Mexican food for lunch or dinner, I'm going to have to pass, having tried a wide variety of dishes there, it still doesn't measure up. There are places in Corona that serve much better food. -

Miguel JRs is better...that's all there is to it.
This place is cool on the inside, but their food just isn't as good and because it's a restaurant it's obviously more expensive...8 dollars for guac just like an El Torito..why not just go to JRs where stuff is half the price?
This is the 2nd time I've been and I really don't think I'd go back unless I was really in the mood for Mexican and I wanted to be in an actual restaurant with a bar (I hear their drinks are pretty good, but I haven't had those).
Their tamales are gross, so don't get those. I got the Garbage burrito this time...it was good, but again, same as JRs an twice the price.
What I REALLY didn't like though was their chips and "salsa" The salsa was hot sauce..NOT salsa with chunks of tomato and peppers, but actual hot sauce which I was seriously not a fan of. They need real salsa for their chips and salsa.
Bottom line: Unless someone else came up the the idea to go here, I don't think I'd suggest it again. -

My husband and I decided to try a new restaurant for a change when we found ourselves in Miguel's Restaurant and Cantina parking lot. As we walked in to the restaurant we were greeted by a friendly face and immediately seated.
Complementary chips and a very mild salsa (if you want to call it salsa) was placed on our table. The salsa was horrible and tasted like tomato sauce and lime juice. No kick at all. We hardly even touched the chips and salsa.
I ordered the baja fish tacos plate and my husband ordered the chile relleno and shredded beef taco plate. In addition we also ordered a cup of the traditional tortilla soup.
The soup was brought out first and it was HORRIBLE! I realize that the menu said, slightly spicy broth with tortilla chips, sliced avocado and enchilado cheese, but the soup was completely lacking in taste. No flavor at all plus it was cold. I didn't finish the soup and set it on the edge of the table so that the waitress could pick it up. I really thought she would have noticed that the soup was hardly touched and would have asked if there was a problem, but she didn't.
Trying to have a positive outlook on things was becoming a challenge for us at this point.
Our food was finally brought out and it was nothing great. My husbands chile relleno didn't look appetizing at all, but he still gave it a shot. He stated that everything was salty and the shredded beef taco was dripping with grease. There was a huge area of grease on his plate and that really turned my tummy. Major disappointment.
My baja fish tacos were dry even after adding lime juice. I asked our server for extra baja sauce and she promptly brought me a dish of sauce out from the kitchen. With the added sauce my taco plate wasn't too bad and to my surprise was actually kind of tasty. I think it's funny that the menu claims that Miguels baja fish tacos are BETTER than the ones you get along the roadside near Ensenada...NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!
Everytime my husband and I go out to a mexican restaurant its a tradition for us to share a deep fried ice cream. Mmmmm.... Okay so we decided that we might as well go all the way and try Miguels dessert. We ordered the "helado frito". Ice cream wrapped in a flour tortilla and flash-fried. Sounds interesting enough, right? The dessert itself looked interesting and I was anxious to try it. The edges of the tortilla were crispy and was actually tasty with the whipped cream, but the rest of the tortilla was soft and absorbed the outside bits of the ice cream. It was a complete mess trying to get to the ice cream that was located in the middle of this huge flour tortilla. MAJOR FAIL!!!
My overall rating is a 2 ONLY because the service was friendly and the drinks were good. I don't think we will be visiting this restaurant again anytime soon. -

We love miguels for happy hour, fast service and consistency. This is not ground breaking mexican or a trendy place but its always yummy, the service is good, the drinks (mojitos!) are good and its very clean. My only dislike is the cheese enchiladas- the cheese is an awful coagulated mess. But the "el garbage" burrito, chilling verde, ranchero steak, refried beans and chimmis are great. I frequently get the (carbless) Mexican Shrimp cocktail or ceviche- which they'll make extra hot for me. Even the sauteed veggies are good. We have been there a gazzillion times and never had a problem with service, the food or anything else. Yes- the restaurant is a little too brightly lit- but the bar is just fine. (Please don't sit your children in the bar area- how about prying away from the TV for once!). Ask for pico salsa to combine with their regular hot sauce, an el garbage burrito and a tall mojito- you'll be happy.

You gotta be kidding me, Miguels! This place is the worst. I cant believe so many people are comparing it to Miguels Jr. Every time I eat here I swear its the last time. The food is either bland, or, as was the case tonight, over salted. It CANT be the same food that is served at the fast food version of this place, theres just no way. Each time I drive by at dinner time, the lot is FULL. I dont get it....the food tastes like it came from a can. All of it! From the lettuce to the enchilada sauce, its boring and forgettable.
At tonight's visit, the waitress deftly commented that my gf had eaten "way" more than I had. I said, "yeah, she usually does". The truth is, my burrito was horrible, I couldnt eat any more. Save your money, head down 6th street and hit Miguels Jr....much cheaper and always good. -

Not my first time there. I'm a repeat offender. The service is unlike any Mexican restaurant chain or otheriwse.Portions are generous, and the blends of flavors really work for me. They without any hesitation make me feel like a guest of honor. So to summerize,Miguels is great. I have eaten at all the Mexican restaurants in Corona, this one is a must try if you've never. Once you have, you'll be a repeat offender like me.

Love their Maria's chopped Salad. I don't care for the standard cilantro cream style dressing that comes with it - instead, I ask for LOTS and LOTS of the Ranchero (what i know as pico de gallo)...
I really like their hot sauce too.
I've been to this location several times - and I also go to Miguel's Jr. The restaurant offers a different menu than the Catina. They built a new location a couple of years ago in Dos Lagos - love that location. Eating on the patio during the warmer months is so pleasant (providing there's not a large party with little kids running amuck) .
I did try their Tortilla soup a couple of nights ago - bleh! Let me save you the trouble - it tasted like enchilada sauce (I'm serious). If you are in the mood for soup, go for the albondiga (meatball) soup instead. -

Had a business meeting here today. We had the room reserved and tables were arranged properly and the servers were attentive. I had a simple lunch meal which consists of rice and enchilada. For the beverage I had ice tea. I really appreciate the fact that even though we were all focused on the meeting, the servers were refilling the drinks without question or interrupting. Good job Miguel's staff.

I came here a few weeks ago for lunch. I ordered the giant Chimichangas. They were decent but I think they should have been a bit more crispy and flavorful.
The other folks seemed to enjoy their dishes but noone was raving.
I would check this place out again but probably order something different. -

I LoVe the Flautas, they're LONGGGG, and the Albondiga Soup (Meatball Soup) , the soup has to be the best I've ever had, well, except for my Mom's !
We like to sit at the Bar area, it seems cozier to us, the seating area of the restaurant ,in my opinion , needs some plants, although the paintings are Gorgeous.
The service is friendly. The first time my Husband and I ate here was when we first moved to S. Corona and mentioned it to our server , well guess what ? She brought us Free Dessert (Flan) and said , "Welcome to Corona". How sweet is that ?!
My favorite server is Sonia, but the other servers are fine also.
P.S. Yummy Cadillac Margaritas -

When I first moved to the area. All of the locals would rant and rave about this place. I got the cheese enchiladas. I tasted like it was warmed up in the microwave!!!!! The only thing good about this place was the decore. THIS IS NOT MEXICAN FOOD!
I would take Taco Bell over this place anytime. -

We have been to this place several times over the years. Each time we leave, we say we will not be coming back, but due to the proximity to our house, we usually wander back in on a weekend evening with expectations that the food will improve. Unfortunately, the food remains consistently bland and disappointing. I would much rather save some money and drive a mile further up the road and get a tasty original burrito from the Miguel's Jr. You pay a lot less, and get hot, fresh food from a drive thru.

So I was on my way home from the Ontario Mills Mall and I remembered back in the day when I worked in Corona how my favorite lunch spot was this hole in the wall restaurant that was hidden in a motel parking lot. I couldn't remember exactly where it was but I exited and stopped at a gas station to see if they could tell me where Miguel's was. The guy said I was almost there and pointed down the road.
OH MY GOSH. I cannot believe how fancy Miguel's is now. I don't know when they built the building they are in now but WOW.
I was worried that Miguel's had gone all Hollywood on me and I would just end up disappointed but that was not the case at all. The food was still just as amazing as I had remembered it to be. My absolute favorite is the combination plate with their cheese enchilada (with onions), pork tamale and rice and beans. Mmmm.
The prices had gone up - but that was to be expected.
Go, Miguel's!
Update: I went to their web site [http://www.miguelsrest...] and looks like the new Miguel's was built right after I left my job in Corona in 2000. -

The pico de gallo was supposed to be good, but it is greasy and then you're burping "cute" burps the rest of the day...not cool.
The red sauce that is on the table for the chips is okay. I really enjoyed the the tortillas with the butter..but really, how can you screw that up?
I ordered a 1 shredded beef taco combo. There was nothing really memorable about this place. The beans and rice were good and so was the taco, but nothing else on the menu sounded really good. I would give this place another chance, so maybe I'll edit my review if I ever come back here again. We shall see...
But you don't have to take my word for it!Listed in: Mexican food!

Let's just say the only thing wasn't impressed with was the pico de gallo. And let's just say I was five pounds heavier the next morning. And let's just say that's no surprise considering how much I ate, and enjoyed, everything that was laid out in front of us.
We went here for my mom's birthday and we got hooked up with appetizers galore. I think three platters of the Poco de Todo (yeah, we were a large group), a few orders of the homemade flour tortillas with butter (::drools::), tortilla soup (YUM!), and more chips and salsa than you would need. And this was before we even ordered our entrees!!!
Then we ordered and everyone at the table shared their entrees with everyone else, so we got to taste a little of everything. My boyfriend, brother and I ended up ordering the Tacos for two and split it between the three of us and still had leftovers. So, so good. My brother and his girlfriend ordered flautas and those were so savory and HUGE!!! I can't even remember everything else that was ordered but everything was insanely good. Definitely going back once I can fit into my jeans again. I should have worn my Thanksgiving pants that night.
Oh and if you're there, ask for Sasha or Marcy. They're the best servers and they will treat you right!!! -

I guess this place has been around for a while and is a well-known local establishment. This is what the locals tell me, at least.
I went here for some drinks n' grub last night with my co-worker, and I can't say we were let down. The house margarita is very good, and I regret getting one of those and one piña colada -- I should have just gotten the huge house margarita instead. Their food was fresh and of high quality. The service was all very friendly. I have to object with the pricing, though. Quite steep for food, and the drinks were moderately steep under non-happy hour pricing. -

The salsa provided with the chips is identical to Miguel's Jr. I got the chicken fajitas, they were mediocre. First time I've been to a Mexican restaurant where they use yellow cheese on their beans. I guess it could be personal preference, but traditionally they are made with white cheese. My sister got the mole dish, it was legit. I liked how they set up the tequila menu by aging categories.

Review from Cat L.
Hermosa Beach, CA
One of Corona's gems. And trust me when I say THERE AREN'T MANY GEMS IN CORONA!
It's an authentic joint that serves gourmet Mexican fare, conveniently located off the 91 fwy (well kinda, cuz you gotta take a sharp turn and loop around). After trying their homemade flour tortillas on the advice of my big bro, I developed a deeper appreciation for authentic Mexican food. Prior to this epiphany of what really good Mex food should taste like, I thought I was in love with Alberto's. I really had no idea what love meant until Miguel's.
So you guys might infer from reading my other reviews that I'm a pad thai whore, but on the Mexican side, I'm a nachos whore! I mean crunchy tortilla chips suffocated under heaps of grilled meat, beans, melty cheese, guac, sour cream, salsa, and lots AND LOTS OF JALAPENOS, it just about epitomizes all the wonderful flavors that Mexican food has to offer. So of course I get the nachos when I'm here. And let me tell ya, THEY'RE HUGE! There were so much stuff piled high, it was like playing JENGA with my food...I was trying so hard to avoid having any food drop overboard. Don't believe me?? Check out my pix...I swear they were even larger the 1st time I ordered them!!
FYI...The grub is a bit pricey (esp. if your only orientation with Mexican food has been at Del Taco) so it's also wise to get the nachos because they're an appetizer, which tends to be cheaper than an specialty dish, and for a couple bucks more you can add your choice of meat and share with friends. I think the nachos are the best deal, personally.
Besides the nachos, they have some kick-ass enchiladas, carnitas, and my favorite burrito from these guys is the "El Garbage." I know, sounds dirty, but I promise you that you won't get a banana peel, an empty soda can, and some rotten eggs rolled up in a tortilla! El Garbage is a hodge-podge of meat, cheese, rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, etc. stuffed into a fat burrito. Get it "Wet Style" and they'll add enchilada sauce and cheese on top. Very messy but very good! I also recommend the mango lemonade just for the unique flavor combo =). No refills though...Boo!
Ambiance here is excellent for parties, birthdays, etc. and the waiters dress up in bull-fighter getups (so cute!). Watch out for one of the younger female waitresses, I got her the last couple times I was there and man, she's a bitchy bitch with a chip on her shoulder. She got my order wrong and made ME feel bad for making her correct it. No apology or anything either. And when I asked for jalapenos (after I'd ordered my food WITH them and she'd forgotten those too), she returned with like 3 bitty sliced peppers with no "Sorry I f*cked that up, too!" either. *Sigh* Incompetence is a bitch. -

Veg fajita's were mediocre and aren't worth the effort of packing up the leftovers.
They offer average quality food -- but much more of it. Fajita plate was enormous, the fried ice cream was huge, chips and salsa to go around. I saw the waitress carry a frozen margarita the size of a punch bowl to another table.
Bottom line: lots of food, but the quality is ehh. -

I've never been to Miguel's Junior but this sit down family restaurant is some of the best Mexican food with the some of the same items on the menu. I had the albondigas soup with fresh tortillas. My friends had the tacos with carnitas (very tender) and the El Garbage (with an accent on the a) Burrito. All very yummy. Then after our faces were stuffed with the salty food group, we moved on to the sweets. The fried ice cream was a great mixture of cold mocha ice cream wrapped in a warm fried tortilla topped with chocolate syrup. Be prepared for LARGE portions and fast service. We must have been HUNGRY (when am I not?) because we ordered, ate and paid in a matter of an hour. Wow.
As a side note, I think many of the food items are the same as the Junior version of this restaurant but I think the prices here are a little higher. Our meal of a large bowl of soup, 2 sides of tortillas, a side of rice and beans, El Garbage burrito, a plate of 3 tacos with rice and beans, soda and fried ice cream totals about 45 dollars. I'm feeling grossed out looking at our list. Excuse my gluttony please. Pardon me as I change into elastic waist pants. -

I don't think mexican is too good if you ate it for lunch and you're tasting it for the rest of the night...
I went for a 'lunch special' which consisted of a chicken burrito covered in sauce and cheese. The chicken was a mix of shredded white and dark meat and filled a nice section of the burrito. The beans were okay, nothing too thrilling. In my fully pregnant state (where my stomach is shoved in my ribs and nice and small) I could only eat about half.
They offered chips and salsa to start as a freebie and since we were a large party (and around the holidays) they threw in a free desert of fried sweet chips and vanilla ice cream.
The service was okay, considering there was a few large groups going out on business lunches. I didn't feel rushed or cramped but the food was just average for the price and for the atmosphere. -

Whoever told the owners of the original Miguel's when they moved to their new location to jack up their prices, and lower the quality of the food, should never be hired to give business advice ever again! Growing up Miguel's was my family's favorite restaurant. Their old location was getting old and run down, so I understood the move. But, I didn't expect the jump in prices and the lowering of the food quality. The food isn't prepared as well, and just doesn't taste as good.
My advice, go to Miguel's Jr. That's still good Mexican food, for a good price. -

Just a word of advice, if you want to try Miguels, take the smart route and go to Miguel's Junior just down the street on Main. Its WAY cheaper, WAY faster, and just as tasty if not tastier.

A little pricey...but worth it...
Despite some other reviews listed here...take it from an expert, Miguel's is not bad. It's a little pricey for Mexican food, but the atmosphere, the service and the flavor make up for that. Try the flautas or the fajitas...both very good. For a faster experience, Miguel's Jr. is right down the street...and yes, you can get a burrito for 3 bucks there... -

I'm not a fan of Miguel's Jr., and question its relation to Miguel's Sonora restaurant?? Miguel's restaurant is nothing in comparison to the Jr. fast food restaurant. I'm Mexican and very selective with mexican dishes. I must say that the chile rellenos dish is excellent! Filled with three different cheeses and has a tasty salsa that pairs well. Refried beans are good, I'm not a fan of the rice, and how can you go wrong with home made tortillas..yumm! Carnitas are good and cadillac margaritas are a must!

I really enjoyed my meal there! I had the chicken flautas and they were amazing. I also appreciated the fact that there was more than one type of salsa. Their hot salsa is definitely HOT. Don't be scared by their green salsa - it's delicious.
A little expensive for what it was, but hey, they have to make money right? I'd definitely go back again. -

Sure you're paying for the atmosphere! If I wanted to eat tacos in my sweats, I'd go to Miguel's Jr.
This is a beautiful location and a major step up from the run down spot across the street. As a kid I remember those giant green doors seemed huge!
Everything about this place is fun. From the Mariachi host/hostess to the bussers, everyone is super friendly. The drinks are potent, the chips are not stale whenever I eat there despite other reviewers' meals, and I get what I expect. Sonora-style food.
My personal choices are the nachos, chicken flautas, cheese enchiladas or the wet garbage burrito. Their albondigas soup is also tasty. The prices are not for the meek but when it comes to date night in the 951, my guy and I choose Miguel's every time. -

The first thing I love about Miguel's is that the atmosphere doesn't look like they try too hard to come off as an authentic Mexican/Spanish restaurant. The large wood front doors are very welcoming and give you a glimpse of what to expect from their food....big portions and big flavor. I had the flautas thinking I would get a nice simple lunch...They Were HUGE! I loved every bit of it. And our server, Alejandra, was great...she was talkative and attentive to me and my parents. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who appreciates good food.
