The ice maker in my old Frigidaire refrigerator started leaking, causing the ice cubes to freeze into a solid block of ice. I called Midwest Appliance and they came out the next day. The technician said I needed a new ice maker. He quoted me a price of $350.00. WHAT?? The whole refrigerator isn't worth that much. The technician had a very thick accent and it was difficult to understand what he was saying. When he saw I wasn't going for it, he said he could put a used top of the line ice maker in for $90.00. I agreed. I then told him that I wanted the inline water filter replaced as well. The ice maker was installed and I was told he would have to return with filter at a later date. He took note of the filter model number. He charged me $165.00 (parts, labor and tax) and left. About one and a half hours passed and I received a phone call from the technician saying that he found the filter and would stop by the next day to install it. I said ok. The technician then said that it would be an additional $120.00. WHAT? I thought it was all inclusive in the $165.00 statement he gave me. I went online and found the very same water filter for less than $20.00. I then went to my freezer and removed the end cap from the ice maker and was shocked to see that it was made in 2001. I took down the model number of the ice maker and looked it up on the internet. Brand new in the box it was $75.00 with instructions on how to install it. It also came with a five year warranty. Midwest Appliance gave me NO warranty at all...saying it was a used unit that they had installed. The ice maker is a seven year old replacement and is NOT top of the line by any means! They screwed me! The ice maker could stop working tomorrow and I have no recourse. Do not use Midwest Appliance!
