I really like Dr. McDaniel, but I did not care for the service in the office. Growing up in a house with two doctors, I have always been taught that the only time you should have to wait to see a physician is if you go to an emergency room without a gushing wound. I know that sometimes people run behind, but frankly I would happily give up the convenience of same-day appointments if I could actually see a doctor within an hour of my appointment time.
Dr. McDaniel refused to prescribe birth control for the full year - is she trying to get another $250 visit fee out of me?
That being said, she answered all my questions and gave a perfectly acceptable pelvic with little discomfort, even if it was clear that she had budgeted exactly 15 minutes for me and my lowly pap.
I thought I had found a great gyno, until my last visit.
First, I had to update my history on their new computer system (the same history I had given them two visits ago)- ok, annoying, but not too bad.
Then I sat in an exam room for what felt like an hour- or three days, who knows? Time passes slowly when you are wearing a paper gown in a freezing room, with nothing but old issues of Parenting magazine to read. When the doctor arrived, she rushed through the exam so fast I could barely understand what she was saying. I know she is busy, but pelvic exams are bad enough without being given the bum's rush.
Also- I was creeped out by the large ads for the G-shot and vaginal rejuvenation surgery in the waiting room. Maybe it's a feminist issue, but I question the propriety of placing ads for cosmetic surgery in the waiting room of a gyno office. Maybe it's just me.
They are finally allowing a full year prescription for BC, which is about time.
i'm changing docs because i can't deal with the 6 month prescription thing. i need a year at a time.
also, last time i was there, all the "rennovations" taking place looked exactly the same as the last time i had been there, leading me to believe that this is a permanent state.

You think the dentist is bad? This place is worse.
The Doc: Dr. Sha-Barbara McDaniels seems like she was in a major rush -- I had concerns that I wanted to discuss and get her opinion on and to be honest, she walked in with a foot out the door. She talked so quickly, I didn't understand a damn thing. I asked her to repeat and elaborate, she just looked frustrated and annoyed. This is the type of service you get when you go to this place.
The Staff: They were SO rude and it looks like everyone REALLY didn't want to be there. No one there seem to enjoy what they do and seriously, no one smiles or care to look you in the eye when you're talking to them.
I should have just left when I got there. Waste of time and money.
I read a few reviews here where people gave her 4 or even 5 stars. You guys must be confusing her with someone else. She does not warrant any compliments.
I'm so glad that they moved out of their cramped space they shared with like 12 other doctors into a new pinker space. I have to say I love and respect Dr McDaniel. My friend refereed her to me, and I went and she is by far the best woman doctor out there. She's very knowledgeable and explains everything that she's doing. the exam goes really fast and it's over in a matter of minutes. Other woman doctors were down there doing god knows what, and it hurt, and they were less then considering.
The staff there is nice, I love the nurse with the Irish accent, she's like a grandma in a sense asking if you're ok or not.
I was hesitant to visit Dr. McDaniels after reading some of the reviews here, but I have been twice now and both times went without a hitch! I got an appointment quickly, I hardly had to wait, and the staff and Dr. McDaniels were super nice. It went quickly, but she answered all my questions and didn't seem rushed. She was very friendly and knowledgeable.
So I read all these reviews and I was really nervous about meeting her but I have to say Dr. McDaniel was really really nice. She made me feel very comfortable and not nervous- which I usually am. Also she took her time and went over all my questions. She was really great. She saw me right away and I was in and out in under an hour.
Also I thought the office was clean and not filled wall to wall with people and babies.
The only thing I will say is that it sucks that you cant use your card to pay your co-pay but it wasnt a big deal I just went and got some cash.
HORRIBLE experience... I repeat HORRIBLE experience...
I waited forever to see the doctor...I know they usually run behind..but it was way way behind and the girls at the front desk kept getting attitudes with people when they asked how much longer it would be. Then by the time I saw the doctor, she completely rushed through my exam and didnt even apologize for being so late. She was not friendly or helpful at all. Then I never heard anything from them after my exam. I had been through a horrible experience which prompted me to visit the Gyn anyway....so I was expecting my results...so I called weeks later and they were like, Oh if you havent heard from us...then everything is okay...so Im like GREAT! Woo hoo...but then I get my results back in the mail and let me tell you they were not GREAT at all...I mean how do you send someone bad news in the mail and not even call them into your office to discuss the issue and how to take care of it? SO WRONG on so many levels! I am disgusted by the way I was treated....their service was completely UNACCEPTABLE, COMPLETELY. They will never see me again. Oh and lets add to all of this...the bills I got in the mail afterwards...not only am I pissed at my "full coverage" insurance provider (Blue Cross) but Im also pissed at the office for not explaining to me what is and isnt covered. I mean geez.
You know when you call a doctor's office and they can get you in immediately, you start to worry right? Well that's exactly what happened when I was looking for a new GYN closer to home. Despite all the bad reviews and bashing of Dr. McDaniels online, I went in anyways. To my surprise, my experience was very pleasant. They got me in and out no hassle and Dr. McDaniels was very knowledgeable and friendly. She answered all my questions and concerns. The women knows her stuff and you can tell she keeps updated with the latest medical research and findings.
Midtown Gyno just moved from a cramped, shared space on 34th to this clean, huge new office suite, and the results are awesome: shorter wait times, more room to breathe in the waiting room, and ample space in the exam rooms so you don't feel like you're stuck in a bathroom stall with your doctor. (Aren't we close enough already?) Dr. McDaniel is sweet, smart, and attentivea trifecta that is hard to find in such a big and busy city. They accept most insurance and deliver necessary prescriptions with test results, saving you a trip back. Fighting the Herald Square tourist traffic sucks, but it's worth it for a quick and painless bi-annual checkup.
I don't ever write reviews but girls need to be warned about this place! First of all, like most places in NY, expect a VERY long wait to see the doctor. The place is about -10 degrees as well so be prepared to shiver your way through a pelvic exam. It was not very comforatable at all... and then the doctor tries to "sell" you on different types of pills/a new g-spot pill etc... what is that about? Worst part about it though is that she only gave me a 6 month prescription for my birth control pills (standard is 1 year - who wants to go through pelvic exam every 6 months???) I thought that it was 1 year so when my 6 months was up, I called and begged (seriously BEGGED) for an extra month because I couldn't get an appointment until 2 weeks later... she said NO!!! So here I am... out of birth control for 3 weeks... cool, way to be a great doctor and actually care about my health. This place is awful.
I was so upset when I came to this place. First of all they listed their address wrong online so I was wandering around for 20 minutes, luckily I came early. While I was wondering, I was also trying to call but the phone was busy the whole 20 minutes; finally when I got through the woman was not apologetic and actually quite short telling me the address was wrong. When I got up there I was waiting for an hour before I finally asked what the hold up was. The women, again rudely, told me she was getting ready to look at my chart...again, not apologizing or giving an explanation for the wait. After waiting another 20 minutes, for a grand total of 1 hour and 20 minutes, she finally called me up to pay for my appointment before being seen (oh no, not to actually be seen by the doctor, but to PAY)..... I'm sorry but I just had to leave, I know it's not that irregular of a policy to have patients pay upfront but sometimes it's obvious why doctor's choose to go that route, because they give bad bad bad service and treatment. I told her I was sorry and just could't wait any longer, I was on my lunch break, she nonchalantly just handed me my insurance card back, she didn't look up from what she was doing, say sorry for wasting an hour and a half of my time, or even say a word to me. I don't know about you but I think a female doctor's office should be a little warmer and helpful than this, I just don't trust doctor's offices with horribly rude staff.
