Solid classic diner experience. Some of their food items seem simple on the surface, but they execute them perfectly. There always seems to be just the right ratio of ingredients.
This is a well known and popular spot in the neighborhood, and you can definitely expect a bit of a wait anytime on the weekend. They open at 9am, and by 9:30 there is usually a wait outside. They do have a good mix of booths and tables and counter space so they can accommodate solo diners as well as modest groups.
Pros: great atmosphere, solid food, reasonable prices. Kinda random but I really appreciate the jam being in a squeeze bottle and not having to deal with low quality annoying smuckers packets.
Cons: Small parking lot, and sometimes neighborhood parking can also be tricky. Slow service at times.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Oct 4, 2023
What a wonderful little breakfast spot. I had the downtowner scramble - spinach, carmelized onion and goat cheese - added bacon. Done perfect. Daughter has a potato stack and a coffee drink. Definitely recommend this place

Phenomenal! My boyfriend and I ordered two farmers breakfast burritos, which was the best breakfast burrito we've had all year. We ordered a regular Bloody Mary and a Reaper. I was wishing I had ordered the reaper because it was delicious and not too spicy which I was worried about. They also had poppers on special for $1, which was the cherry on top! Servers were friendly and efficient. I would come here everyday if I lived closer.

Still as good as ever. Monica and her team know how to do breakfast and lunch.
Expect a wait on weekends. Get there early if you want the chicken fried steak.Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0May 11, 2015Previous reviewUnassuming, unpretentious, and undeniably delicious.
Thankfully located just outside where the Nouveau Portlanders like to go, Midpoint Food and Drink provides quality food at reasonable prices. You'll recognize all of the ingredients; you'll really love the taste.
Hash browns or mashed are your potato offerings (even for breakfast). Lots of breakfast sandwiches and scrambles. Turkey is pulled off the breast. Whatever you get, ask for a side of red gravy.
Staff is personable and accommodating. Comfortable bright red booths and a nice counter provide a semi-retro diner feel without too much formica.
In a town filled with overly self-aware restaurants that provide great breakfasts but attract a rather pretentious crowd, Midpoint is a breath of fresh air! - Aug 13, 2023
I really enjoyed my brunch here! The staff was very helpful and our food was delicious. The potato stacks are where it's at (imho) and the red gravy is a must try. Only complaint is lack of espresso and that I wasn't a fan of their drip. Try if you must but I say get a coffee later. Will def be back and can't wait to try more options. Qapla'!

It makes me so sad to leave this review since i've loved coming here but I was so put off with the customer service here today 3/24/24. I put my name down on the list at 12:23 and was still not called at 1:10 so I went inside and saw that my name was crossed off when they haven't called my name. I asked the tall person with the short pink hair and she was really rude to me about it. She rolled her eyes and said " i don't know what to tell you i called everyone's names" and walked away from me. I decided to walk away and this is the last time i'll ever be back here. Your food is amazing but please hire nicer people.

If you follow my reviews, you know that when our son, Michael, visits, we often explore new places. Two Sundays ago we hit Midpoint Food and Drink. It's humbly hidden just round the corner off of Powell. One of about 5 places in an unassuming, dog legged strip mall, it would be easy to pass by.
The groups of folks waiting outside quickly dispelled ideas of "just another old time, meh brunch place".
We just got in under the call for the 2:00pm closing time. Whew!
I ordered and explored and savored the textures and tastes of the day's special deep fried French toast with blueberry cream cheese, whipped cream (the real kind) and berries. I didn't lick the plate because my husband was there. The bread was palm-sized rounds, soaked in vanilla French toast dip and then deep fried to a crisp delight. Between the rounds, a large quenelle of the blueberry cream cheese contrasted the crunch of the toast and was a bit melty but still cool, again contrasting the warm toast pieces. Unneeded but welcome, a dollop of whipped cream offered the sugar hit that made the syrup totally unnecessary. I didn't touch it. And the scattered, fresh berries added tang and brightness. All the food moans and sighs.
Bill and Michael ordered different variations of the potato stacks. These were hash browns to perfection - you know, they're potatoey inside and golden (not old oil overly brown or inconsistently singed, browned, or barely crisp) outside. The other ingredients in the stack were deftly cooked to done. The chef obviously works to maintain the integrity of all the produce used.
Excellent places have wait staff that authentically serve, show pride in their coworkers and in the food they produce. They make you feel like you belong. Check.
Memorable places offer interesting specials that entice you to go down that road less traveled. And you're happy you did. Check.
Places you appreciate are those that prize quality over absurd quantity. You can eat the entire serving without feeling like you could compete in a Miss Manatee competition. And prices are fair. Check.
We will return and even talked about who we'd bring there - always a nod to how much we enjoyed it.
Find your way to this Portland gem. You'll thank yourself and then you'll make plans to go back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - JoAnn C.Gresham, OR2291Jan 26, 2024
Met a friend for breakfast!! Omg - our food & service was SO great! I ate every drop! I had a perfect Bloody Mary plus the Mt St Helens Potato Stack. Everything About it was delicious including the red gravy which I was skeptical about. Even the slices of toast & jam were so good. I wouldn't have minded if the Music wasn't quite so loud but it was tolerable. I'll def go back again & again! Oh - and the waitress was friendly, funny, fast.
