I've never been to the lunch buffet (actually, I didn't even know they had a lunch buffet until I signed in to Yelp to write this review), but I had dinner there a number of times before moving out of state in 2007.  On a recent trip back to Texas, my sister and I went there for dinner as soon as I got off the plane.

The nice thing about going to Midori for dinner is that their basic sushi is half price.  Service was a little slow this particular evening, but they were friendly.  They brought us a free sushi roll bite while we waited for our seaweed salad, which was a nice touch.  We shared the spicy tuna roll and the volcano roll (yum!!!) and had a few pieces of nigiri.  We wanted some white tun nigiri because it tastes like little bites of heaven, but they were out of it.  Maybe it was just hard to get around that time, because the sushi buffet I went to the next day didn't have white tuna sashimi like they usually do.  Yes, I ate sushi two days in a row.  I'm a sushi nut... what can I say?  Doesn't that make you trust my opinion a little more, though?

The only time I've ever gotten the wrong food was when I got some weird sweet egg sushi instead of eel... but that's because they were next to each other on the paper menu and I marked the wrong one, so it's my own damn fault.  That was not a happy mistake.  Yuck.  Everything else I've eaten at Midori has been great!

I have been coming to Midori on and off for years, although I've never tried the buffet.  At dinner, instead of a buffet, they offer half price sushi.  The half price applies to most of the regular sushi (tuna, salmon, red snapper), but not the sashimi, rolls, or the "fancier" sushi such as yellowtail or fresh water eel.

On my most recent visit, our party of seven dined on a Friday night.  The service was extremely friendly.  They had us write our names on each of the paper sushi menus so they could easily keep track of our orders and split the checks.  This is always a big service plus, as it is often like pulling teeth to separate checks at some places.

They brought out lots of little free extras with our meals: miso soup, edamame, sushi burrito, and orange slices for dessert.    At first, I said "Oh, I didn't order this" and they looked at me like I was crazy and said "It is on the house."  Yes, these were all FREE extras.

My only service complaint is that they were slow to get a second round of drink orders.  Most of us were drinking Kirin Ichiban, and probably would have had seconds, but they lagged in asking.  I never understand why or how restaurants fail to bring a second round of alcoholic beverages.  Hello!  We are trying to give you more money.

The two items I highly recommend at Midori are the volcano roll and the spicy tuna rolls.  Unfortunately, neither fall into the half-price range, but are definitely worth the cash.  The volcano roll is made up of little rolls (maybe California rolls?) baked in a creamy seafood sauce.  It sounds gross, but is amazing, and not mayonnaise-y at all.  The spicy tuna rolls are very spicy and probably the best spicy tuna rolls I've had.  I also like the albacore sushi, which is lightly seared on the outside.  Don't get me wrong, I love the raw stuff, but the searing on the outside of the albacore gives a little extra "oomph" to the flavor.

Sure, there is better, fancier, sushi in the area (Teppo, Yutaka, Sushi Sake).  However, I must say Midori is the best *value* for sushi in town, at least at dinner.

I love sushi.  I love Osaka.  I'm usually very reluctant to try a sushi buffet other than Osaka because I'm afraid of being bitterly disappointed.  Midori not only didn't disappoint me, it surprised and impressed me.

Midori is a much smaller restaurant with a much smaller buffet than Osaka.  They offer mostly rolls and most of their rolls are different versions of crab.  But I was really surprised at how truly flavorful everything was.  And the tempura sauce was wonderful!  They do have a few fried items, a few non-seafood rolls (chicken? honestly, I didn't even try those) and the rainbow roll is about the only fish you'll see other than tuna.

I was a little nervous when I realized that the plates on the buffet aren't sitting on ice but are just sitting on the counter.  Then I realized why.  The plates are small (the eating plates are tiny as well) and the place fills up for lunch, which means the rolls are turned over very quickly.  That was another concern of mine, that the buffet would run out of items quickly due to so many customers going through line.  That wasn't the case at all.  The employees serving up the sushi were on the spot with refilling empty plates.

My absolute favorite thing about Midori is the price.  $11.99 for lunch.  GTFO!  I gorged myself on sushi for almost half what I would've paid at Osaka.  This is the biggest reason Midori gets 4 stars from me.

This is a no frills sushi buffet.  I can't see it surpassing Osaka as my favorite, but it certainly runs a close second and is much more affordable.

So I said to Joe Avezzano, while enjoying my NYE sushi buffet....

No, I didn't have the guts to go up and shake the man's hand but it was super cool to see him. I actually wouldn't have shaken his hand. I would have grabbed his shoulders and shaken him begging for him to help coach again.

I'm not surprised to see Cowboys and ex-Cowboy's at Midori. It is in the hood. And there a photos on the walls of all the folks who have eaten there...most in blue and white jerseys.

I'm also not surprised because the sushi is top notch. I've never been disappointed by quality, freshness, quantity and creativity. The service and value are equally awesome! You get more bang for your buck at their lunch buffet than you would anywhere else in town, mega buffets included.

For NYE they pulled out all the stops. They referred to the dinner as being an International Sushi Buffet. It was. No, they didn't have the Australian spam sushi, but they had a wide variety of Pan-Asian offerings. I'm not even going to try to list it all...but be sure I ate it all.

Still my favorite thing was when we used to eat lunch there. My gal-pal Q can put away more sushi than anyone I know. We used to hit the buffet towards the end. Before they cleared the buffet, as we were winding down. They would come to the table and offer the dish to Q before they took it away.

Acknowledging greatness is their forte!

Totally does the job.

It's been in rotation for work lunch with friends over the past few years; it's not super-fancy but it is nice and yummy and reasonably priced, with enough non-sushi items to keep the non-believers from starving.

Has a decent selection of rolls that are made in fairly small batches, because no one likes death sushi. Lots of basics like California, Philly, tuna, spicy tuna - although I swear those two are always marked backwards. Beware the eensy tiny tuna rolls at the end - they're always WAY hotter than the purported "spicy" tuna! A few choices on the more adventurous side, like the salmon skin roll (which I LOVE. Shut up, don't judge).

And word up on the #2. No clue what it is, but it appears to have some kind of mayo/seafood spread on top (shit you not - totally like pimiento spread on a freakin' Ritz!) and then covered in cheese (!) and then BAKED. I KNOW, right? But it is some tasty shizz.

Very inexpensive ($11ish), very friendly service, never a wait for a table even though they're always full for lunch and a cheerful bright interior. And as a bonus, dinner rolls are always 1/2 off... only been a few times for dinner, but it was good.

Oh, and there's now a second location - 360 and Trinity!! Like you're going to the Marriot, but stop at that new little strip mall thingy.

Totally fast, inexpensive way to silence the sushi craving! Like a nooner, only with wasabi.

Meh! They are ALRIGHT.

Service was HORRIBLE. Can they hire a server who talkative and speak English clearly?

I always ordered seaweed salad everytime I go to Japanese restaurant but this one here, taste like it's been stored for months... YUCK!

Food was OK, sushi was acceptable. Sashimi was Good.

I'm here visiting, and was looking for one all you can eat sushi, posted a talk and received this suggestion.

Their selection is not wide like others, such as Todai (comparing to the one I went in California), but everything in their selection was fresh, they had about 8-12 choices for rolls (rolls only), assorted tempura veggies, 2 kinds of salad, and oranges.

Quality of food is great, no food smell in the dining area, and service was really friendly.

This place is located in the upscale Las Colinas area so I expected it to be on the fancy side, but it's very casual - almost dineresque. Wine list is virtually non-existent. Sushi was good enough to not get sick, but not good enough to want to rush back. Red snapper was stringy - not a good cut. I sat at the bar and it was a bit  sticky. Chef was barely cordial. Not mean, just shy and without personality.

I'll be looking for a better sushi place during my next trip to Irving.

Best sushi in Irving...well, you've got a couple other choices.

Try the sushi burrito. It's unique, deep fried (for you rare haters and cholesterol seekers), and very delicious. It's a must-get when I'm there during lunch break where they set up this respectable array of dishes to choose from. Quite decent for the price too since you not only get sushi choices, but rice and other Japanese dishes as well.

On the menu, Midori Special #2 is the powerhouse. I highly suggest trying this before anything else. Otherwise I would look like an idiot for totally pimping this place.

Lunch buffett was sooo bad.  Rice tasted stale.  Tuna was fishy. Rolls were sloppy.  Only thing good was the service and the chicken gyoza.  Worst I've had in this area.

They have a  pretty good sushi buffet during lunch, although it doesn't even come close to Tokyo One in Addison. Unfortunately they have dropped some of their better quality sushi like the salmon sushi and they only serve it outside of the buffet.

Their food is fresh, good and a pretty decent price. Last time I went in June 2008, it was about $11.

I really like their green tea ice cream, one of the better I've had.

"Yay! I'm a fan" because for $14, you can get all the "sushi" you want and some hot tea. Not bad. Yes, the sushi is low grade. I mean, c'mon, you are at a buffet. This isn't Nobu. A nicer buffet (is that even possible?) is Tokyo One, but it is WAY up in Addison on Beltline, and it is $20+. Midoris does have a good range of raw, cooked, fried, and baked rolls. No sashimi that I recall, that would be too expensive for them, but lots of rolls because rice and cucumber are cheap. Midori is great for large group work lunches because they have lots of space and the servers work together to take care of large parties. If you are looking for a sushi buffet to put into your lunch rotation, this is a good bet.

Midori will always hold a special place in my heart. I've been going there for about 7 years now.

The buffet is always great and fairly cheap, considering it's sushi and it's a buffet.

Ordering off the menu is also cheap - the sushi is always fresh, always good. The staff and management at Midori are wonderful, friendly and always accommodating.

We've been there several times for birthday parties, and it's been a great environment, especially if you're in the back room!

Decent, but not great.

The sushi's OK, but I always get the impression that it is better prepared or with fresher ingredients at competing restaurants farther up north on MacArthur. I just had dinner with my wife there and the sashimi looked like it was cut with a chainsaw, though the taste was alright. They seem to use wasabi on most of the rolls, which I don't like as much.

Where they really lose points though, is in service. They are polite, but inattentive - no refills, dirty plates can sit on the table for a while before they pick them up, and getting the check takes a few minutes. I think it's much better for lunch than for dinner.

For the price you pay, the lunch buffet is definitely acceptable, but the chefs are douchebags if you eat a lot.  My friend and I went to the restroom at the same time, and came back and the waitress took our chopsticks to which she said "I thought you were done, sorry."  I guarantee you, though, that they just wanted us to stop eating.  My friend and I just went back and got about 10 more pieces each of their most expensive roll, probably the spicy tuna with rainbow on top.  They need to quit staring.  If you're going to open a sushi buffet, don't be afraid if people rape your buffet.  Their fried sushi are pretty good, fyi.  Especially for buffet.  They just need a bigger selection.

Great lunch buffett - I worked in Las Colinas for a long time, and this was on my top 5 places to go in the area.  Its not the greatest quality but it's not bad either - fresh - plus they give you a million other options including a healthy selection of Tempura, fried and terriyaki chicken, and gyoza/dumplings.  Took most of my coworkers here and they all loved it.  I think it works out to be $13-$15 with tax and tip.  They also have reasonably priced dinner specials around the same price.

This one is pretty solid.  It's a little pricy, but that's what you get for eating sushi and it's worth it to go every now and then.  They have plenty of original sushi rolls to choose from, including chicken rolls, which I thought was weird, but they were actually pretty good.  They also have other fried stuff and noodles to choose from on the buffet if you're into that, but I've never had it because I don't want to waste my precious stomach space on anything other than sushi when I go here.  They give you huge glasses of water and refill it when it gets halfway down, which EVERY PLACE NEEDS TO DO.  One drawback is they don't have any sashimi.  Give me sashimi.

Midori Sushi is our neighborhood Sushi spot.  Most of the time they start you off with a bowl of miso soup and sushi sampler and finish each meal with fresh orange slices.  Their spicy salmon and shrimp tempura rolls are fresh and better than decently portioned.  Their special rolls are fun and interesting (I'm a fan of the viagra roll).  Their sushi steals the spotlight from the hot foods, although my husband and I will order the fried dumplings from time to time.  Beware though...well priced sushi comes at the price of sometimes neglectful service and little flies here and there...
