I have had the complete opposite experience with the first poster at this Midas. This is the only car shop in LA I have returned to, probably 6 times in the past 3 years I have lived here.
They have never over sold me any service, have explained things clearly, and candidly told me when I needed something but could wait a little longer if financially it wasn't practical for me. Actually just last week I went to have my brakes done (it was close to $390 for one new axle and new brakes) and when I told the owner I was sure that I would be selling my car soon he advised me to do less service.
My uncle owns a car repair/smog place in SF and looked over my car after Midas's work and has only had positive comments. So I am confident to give them such a great review.
Went here yesterday to get prices on tires. Man behind counter told me that my size starts at $110 and goes up from there. Immediate red flag, because several other places I'd shopped had something for less than that. He also said my size would have to be ordered, which is fine with me, but the way he said it suggested that he didn't want to bother. Then I asked him if he could give me exact prices for specific brands/models, but he said "I'd have to look that up" and just stood there. Apparently, looking things up is not part of his job description. What a loser! I'll take my business elsewhere.
If I could give a zero I would. I pulled up and the guy who appeared to be the owner was raving at an elderly woman like a lunatic. After I saw other customers leaving I walked in figuring I could get my alignment pretty quick. Instead the guy gave me total attitude and screamed at another woman who came in. I went over to another Midas in Santa Monica on 5th and had no problems. I would highly recommend against this place and go to any other Midas. The kind of behaviour and language they used towards customers was completely unacceptable. I would not trust this maniac with my car. Save yourself the hassle and go to a professional - there are other Midas' everywhere.
I went here for brakes and an oil change. They were quick, and actually called me to tell me my car was ready. A first for me out of probably a dozen shops. Best of all they didn't try to sell anything I didn't need. I will be back for sure.
I have been a customer at this Midas for the past five years or so. I normally deal with Roger, who is polite, patient and professional. After having dealt with the service department of Honda of Santa Monica for several years and hating EVERY MOMENT of it, Midas was a refreshing change. Midas has done everything on our two cars from oil changes, new tires, fuel injectors, etc. They do not try to oversell you things you don't need, and they do the repairs quickly and at a seemingly fair price point. I highly recommend them!
I had some work done up in San Francisco at the Midas there. After a few months the work wasn't holding up so well, so after I moved to LA I went back to Midas here on Pico with my squealing brakes and they totally took care of me! Really quickly too and I didn't have to pay for any additional repairs to the car. Very happy, and I will definitely be bringing my business back here for midas-related things. It is really hard to find good places in LA!
