5 reviews for Microtel Inn & Suites
Actually, I was shocked at how new and clean the Microtel was. I was really impressed with the room, and we paid seriously $100 for the night, and there were 3 of us.. hello, $30 per person! Luckily, we found out about the Britney concert being moved back 2 months before the hotels did, so they couldn't spike the rate on us.
There is a free shuttle to Mohegan that starts at 5 and ends at 1 (we didn't get to take it..... because we were going over too early.. and couldn't find the guy on the way back....), but if you can figure that out, yay! Otherwise, it's an $8 cab ride, and chances are you're splitting it with someone, so YAY again.

$180 for 2 queen beds as opposed to the $500+ Mohegan wanted.. hmm... I'll take Microtel. The place isn't really much to look at from the outside and neither is the waiting area. I was a bit disturbed when I saw that other review about being placed in a smoking room. Ack! But we had great service and were put into the right room. Both check in and check out were super easy and quick.
The room was oddly configured but it was much more than I expected. In the room there were 2 queen beds (one with a wall of mirrors above it - bowchikkawowowow) separated by an eat in kitchen type island (sink, microwave, cupboards, mini fridge, and tiny attached table). I thought the beds were pretty comfortable. In addition to a full seat underneath the window, there was a desk and two additional chairs with a nightstand. The closet was in the middle of the room underneath a good sized television. PS - The remote isn't broken, you just need to press REALLY hard. Inside the closet, there is a safe, hangers, and an iron/ironing board. The bathroom was nice, although I don't know why the toilet paper was on the opposite wall of the toilet. I feel bad for short people. It was freezing outside, so we had jacked up the heat overnight but it kept getting too hot. We really couldn't find a pleasant temperature for the room.. but it definitely could have been a lot worse.
The hotel is incredibly convenient.. next door to a Stop and Shop, a Walgreens/CVS (can't remember sorry!), and a slew of other stories.. not to mention it's only a couple minutes drive from Mohegan Sun. Although there's a shuttle that runs until 2AM and leaves the hotel whenever you tell the front desk you're ready to go! I would suggest making reservations online or over the phone (I did phone because some of the website deals seemed confusing) if you know there's some big act happening at the Mohegan Sun theater. I checked in on a Saturday and they told the guy behind me that they were totally booked.. apparently we were in a hotel full of Dancing With the Stars fans.
The parking lot is pretty big and there are several entrances to the hotel so you don't have to keep going in through the front door. Oh and there's free breakfast! Juice, coffee, and muffins. Not amazing, but it'll hold you over until you figure out whether or not you want to head back to the casino or head home or get some real food.
Note: They have a frequent stay card, but if you don't remember to use it.. they won't credit your stay. Shucks..
Also, I don't know if this happened to anyone else, but they charged my card for the full amount when we checked in. A couple days later the amount was pending and it disappeared for 2 days.. then all of a sudden it was back on my card and cleared. Weird. And there's a $10 safe fee.. didn't notice it till I got home.. kinda sucks since we didn't even use it.

So, we went to Mohegan Sun for my friend's birthday the other night (see previous review) but we didn't want to spend the outrageous price for a room there on a Sat. night. Not to mention, there weren't any available at M.S.
We picked this place and we were a little apprehensive at first. The rooms were only $100/night (and $125 or something like that for a suite).
And, it was only 5 minutes from the Casino and they had free shuttle service running continuously to/from Mohegan Sun Casino until 2am.
This place is only about 2 years old and it's really clean and new and nice.
I mean, it's no Ritz but for $100 it was much better than we expected. We had the birthday girl's pre-party in the Suite and it was really spacious with a mini-fridge & a sofa etc.
I would definitely suggest this to anyone who plans to lose a lot of money at Mohegan Sun and needs a budget place to stay while they do it.

I stayed here a few weeks ago after an all day gaming frenzy at Mohegan Sun. It was about a 4 minute drive from the casino which rocked, and when we got there at 1am the woman behind the desk had no problem booking us a room. For 80 dollars, it was a fantastic place to stay! The shower pressure was perfect, and the beds were phenomenal. SO comfortable and soft and clean! I could have slept forever. Plenty of parking even though it was a busy weekend, and check out was a breeze. I definitely recommend this place!
I made an online reservation for a non-smoking queen suite with a couch. I got a smoking room, non-suite with two beds. Now ask me if I liked this place...
Anyway, after being told at check-in that they don't promise non-smoking rooms, and that they didn't have any available, I was ready to leave and go to the Hilton in Mystic. I went to the front desk, and when I told them I was leaving, the woman asked me if I would stay in that room for a reduced rate. I laughed! Then she said they had a room available, and it was an upgrade from what I had requested originally.
Time was running short, so I took the other room. Which was non-smoking, and as for the upgrade...It was the same exact room setup and everything.
I would not stay there again. Not worth the hassle. Even though it is very close to Mohegan Sun.
