9 reviews for Micky and Sam's Ice Cream
This is my favorite frozen yogurt/ice cream place in all of Los Angeles. I drive all the way from Pasadena to pick up pints of my favorite flavors: Milky Way, Chipmunk, or any of the "Yogurt" flavors, which are tart, pinkberry style. If you ask, Sam will fill a bag with ice for you to keep your pints cold. :-) They probably keep in the freezer for a while, but I eat them within a few days.
All of the yogurts and ice creams have more of a gelato type texture and I especially like that they are NOT TOO SWEET OR AT ALL ARTIFICIAL TASTING. Usually I feel sick after eating ice cream because it is so heavy, but Micky & Sam's ice cream is JUST RIGHT.
There is a great selection of yogurts, sorbets, and ice creams. There are sugar free and non dairy options too. The variety changes a bit daily, but there are always the standards. I think there are approximately 30+ flavors.
There are also sandwiches, salads, soup, smoothies, coffee, and yummy chocolate chip cookies here too (which is probably why they call it Ice Cream PLUS). I usually stick with the ice cream and yogurt, but I've had a salad from here. It was fresh and tasty. There are a few small tables inside, but I usually get everything to go.
If you are a regular customer, they have a loyalty card in which you get a small percentage of your purchase back for a future free purchase. It is also great to support a local mom and pop place as opposed to "the man".
So Sam, when are you going to open a location in Pasadena????????
i love the non-dairy peanut butter chocolate sorbet they make here. i don't know how they get it to taste so creamy without cream in it!
Lacking a sweet tooth, I don't really go for ice cream much. Tonight I had a craving and I went here based on the reviews. Big ol' MEH. The coffee ice cream tasted as if it had been made from Folgers, specifically the cardboard roast. Baskin Robbins would have been preferable, frankly.
Soup is still great. But the lavash bread that they changed to leaves A LOT to be desired. Have had the sandwich twice since the old glory days, and I'm not as in love with their (baked) falafel anymore. It would be worth it to bring your own pita (from Papa Cristo's) or perhaps order it as a plate instead of a sandwich. The place is so high quality- they need to bring in some better (fresh?) bread.

Healthy, tasty, decadent.
Baked-falafel! Tastes as great as regular falafel but with half the fat.… Read more »
I love living across the street from this "Mom & Pop" style quick stop. It was recently renamed to Ice Cream Plus from Mickey & Sam's, so don't get confused, it's the same place. They make homemade ice creams and sorbets, soups, sandwiches, smoothies and a variety of snack items. It's next to the Subway in the Washington Mutual/McDonald's center at the corner of Sunset and Crescent Heights.
They also have lots of various portable snacks on the racks and lots of vegetarian options, and a few vegan options as well. I've gone in there with a cold and the owner will make a special smoothie to fight it, that's how cool they are. If you go in during the evening, the owner is usually listening to The Beatles, which is fun. I love to order their red lentil soup with the half sandwich. The brown rice salad and the tuna sandwich are really good too. After I eat I usually order a cup of their chipmunk chip ice cream and the peanut butter ice cream, sooo delicious!!! There's little seating but most people take it to go, so there always seems to be a spot to sit down. It's a very simple menu, but very fresh and tasty, you won't be disappointed.
Homemade ice cream! They do gelato and sorbet out of fresh, REAL ingredients! The food and soup is delicious on top of that. I think the ice cream is way better than Scoops. I come from the Valley just to get ice cream at this place. Well worth it!
Food marathoning can take its physical toll. I've been blessed with a fast metabolism but certain 3,000 calorie binge days slow the heart down a bit. That's why I counter my monthly weekend marathons with light/healthy weekday meals. Besides the occasional tom yum soup from Jitlada I tend to eat turkey sandwiches from Subway (no cheese, no mayo).
Another standby is Mickey and Sam's Ice Cream Plus. It's a no frills ice cream shop that serves salads, soup and sandwiches exactly how you would make them at home. Regular old iceberg lettuce, store-bought wheat bread, brown rice, microwaveable tofu, jarred sauces... it's really nothing special at all. It's healthy, inexpensive, easy and then there's the dessert. There's yogurt, gelato, sorbet, fat free, low fat, sugar free, low sugar and different combinations. Flavors range from cinnamon to lemon, raspberry ice tea to peanut butter. This one is banana and chocolate hazelnut. For around $10 it's my go to weekday spot for lunch and/or dinner.
NOTE: This place is more than ice cream.
It has been a year since I have been to this place. Run by a hard working family that always takes Sunday off, Mickey and Sams is part ice cream parlor, part sandwich shop, part soup and salad place. I am praying to God that this place is still here.
I'm just going to say it right now. The best, the best, the best tuna salad sandwich in town. I ask for it with swiss cheese on wheat, lightly toasted, and there it is pure heaven. Then I buy a diet coke, Pirate's Booty chips (the best in the world)...and I'm in heaven.
It's stuck next to a Mcdonalds, El Pollo Loco and a Subway. I used to work across the street at the nearby Crunch Fitness and I always went to lunch here. Oh how I miss this place, in fact...I'm going tomorrow to pick up a tuna salad sandwich!
Greatest tuna salad sandwich: Buy it NOW. Turn off the computer and buy it now. Unless it's closed.
I have been eating at Ice Cream Plus (aka Mickey and Sam's) for 3 years now. The couple that owns the place are very warm and wonderful people. Everything is hand made on premises. The gelatos are great (coconut is my favorite), and the tuna melt and falafel sandwich are some favorites of mine as well!
