The Sierra Chicken is one of my favorite sandwiches. The roasted brussel sprouts are perfectly salt and peppered. The roasted yams with bacon and feta, um, hello. Yes please.
The soups are a little too thin for my taste, but flavorful none-the-less.
Been a fan, always will be a fan.
The staff rocks, Sarah and Justin are just great.
Michou Fresca is A-OK, a worthy eatery which i enjoyed.
Michou seems to specialize in two things- baked potatoes and sandwiches. I had one of their sandwiches- a Tuscan Chicken I believe(see pics). While the grilling made the bread nice and tasty, the overall sandwich was a little bland for me. The tomatoes were juicy, but overall not much flavor- However, it was only $5.50 which seems like a good price for this sandwich! I also had the Zepploes, which were just ok- but a steal at 4 for $1.50. The mozzarella sticks were very tasty- and 3 for $1 is another steal!
Overall maybe not the greatest food I ate in Seattle, but definitely some great deals on quick snacks near Pikes Place! I'd would go again for the mozzarella sticks lol!
I have mixed feelings about Michou ... on the one hand I ate almost all of my teriyaki tofu sammy, but on the other hand, I also felt like complete death afterwards.
I think there was a bit too much mayo/cheese in the sandwich, and due to the high amount of foot traffic, I'm pretty sure they couldn't afford to make each sandwich to order ... thus making it slightly difficult to ask for no mayo/sauce/cheese. Taste-wise, it was very good, but honestly too rich for me to eat ever again.
I have no real complaints, I think it is tasty if you're into richer foods, but for me I was too concerned with how my arteries were holding up afterwards. The staff is friendly though and everything is very fresh!
The storefront pales in comparison to its warm-and-lovely neighbor Le Panier, which I assume is why I never noticed this place. When I finally discovered it, I was pleasantly surprised! They have a massive collection of health-nut salads like yam and cranberry, quinoa eggplant, or roasted cauliflower and blue cheese. I highly recommend the roasted brussel sprouts. The soups are also some of the best I've had in the city, and the sandwiches are grilled and made to order.
It's best to do take-out here, as there's really no place to sit and watch the people, and the atmosphere is boring and flourescently-lit.
I'd been to Michou dozens of times when I lived in Seattle, so when I popped in for lunch on Wednesday I had high hopes.
I was not disappointed.
Seriously, this has to be the best deli in Seattle - period. The Sierra Chicken is awesome - their pastas are usually excellent - they'll let you sample until you're content. I also tried their mozzarella, pesto and basil panini - very good. The only negative with Michou is that there is extremely limited seating.
Coffee raisin bread pudding, amazingly mmmmmmmm!!!!!!!
No more breakfastbowls, they now have breakfast sands.

I worked at Pike Place way back in the day at the tender age of 15 (don't worry, I only bagged fruit & created pepper chains) and this has been my lunch spot ever since. It's $5.50 + tax for a half sandwich & soup or salad, ridiculous in this day and age!
I never remember what it's called other than that "damn good sammich place" All the food is amazingly fresh and there's something for everyone: pizza, salads, pasta, soups and oh yes, their sandwiches. They usually have 2 types of ciabatta rolls, one peppered with sesame seeds and the other more on the sourdough side.
And forget tuna salad and ham & cheese, these are gourmet to the max. Rare roast beef melds with Gorgonzola, Decadent Brie dances with tomatoes, crisp lettuce and roasted pesto and slices of Eggplant nestle nicely for the vegetarians out there.
Go go go.
Incredible "sandwich" at an incredible price with incredible selection. Man...this place is certainly a "must stop" in the Market.
My personal favorite on a few tries was the Poblano Roast Beef.
If you are with a friend, order two different sandwiches for a perfect split.
Michou Fresca is full of yum - and it's good I don't work downtown, because if I did, they'd get all my money. I've come here often for lunch while hanging out at Pike Place or the neighboring areas, and I'm never disappointed. I always take forever deciding what I actually want to order because there are so many tasty-looking choices. I know I've had the carmelized tomato and mozzarella panini (which was good, although the tomatoes were really too sweet for me), the pesto pasta salad, quinoa (it was my first experience with the stuff, too!), and lord knows what else.
This is definitely a good little lunch spot. Buy something good, take it to the park, and enjoy the sunshine (we seem to have that now...).
The Sierra Chicken.
Is this little taste of heaven the best sandwich I've ever had? It's certainly up there.
While plowing and/or gorging our way through the 100 List, we went for this tasty sandwich from Michou Fresca today, and I'm so glad we did. It will be hard for me to stop at the Market without stopping in for a sandwich! The chipotle mayo was perfect, the prices were reasonable and the line went quickly. My friends devoured their sandwich, which had caramelized onions [I can't remember what it was exactly, but it looked/smelled amazing].
Places like this resulted in the phrase "Good things come to those who wait." I think what is meant by that is that if something is pretty good, but you wait awhile for it, it's pretty great by the time you get it.
Michou is that, good, but a long wait, and different shaped flat sandwiches that are great once you get them. If there was no wait, they might just stay good.
I had the BBQ Pork mostly because I couldn't see all the options, but the joint is a great place to grab a sandwich in the market. Local and cool.
Still 5 star... excellent staff and yummy sandos. Tried the tuscan chicken today- was more bland than the other sandwiches i've had here, but still very tasty!

The best place to grab picnic food and head to a park near Pike's Place Market. Today, we bought sandwiches and salads, and took to the Sculpture Park on the waterfront.
Very veggie friendly. I resisted the portabella/roasted pepper sandwich, since I get bored with portabellas as the only veggie option at most restaurants. Instead I ordered a half terriyaki tofu sandwich. It was soooo good! I also got sides of pasta salad and roasted eggplant. All for under $10.
Raves were also given to the salad with strawberries, cheese, and nuts.
Amazingly, we went today -- part of a holiday weekend -- and there was no line. On a normal weekday, be prepared for a line out the door. Yes, they are that good.
One of my favorite stops at Pike Place Market. Michou is a great take-out place next to Le Panier. Their half sandwich and salad combo is awesome for the price and selection. There are numerous items you can choose from depending on your mood. Particularly like their Tuscan Chicken and cod sandwich, along with their pasta salads.
Outside of sandwiches and salads, they also serve pizza by the slice, zeppoles (Italian beignets), baked potatoes and pastas. Michou is very much the Seattle Pike Place Market equivalent of one of my recent restaurant finds, Laurelle's on Granville Island in Vancouver.
Prices and portions at Michou are awesome. This is really a take-out place as there is not much table space. There are a couple of spots near the exit of the restaurant, but you would be better off taking it to go and eating across the street at the park facing Elliott Bay. Overall, I highly recommend trying Michou when at Pike Place Market.
What a lovely little place! Right in the heart of Pike Place Market with beautiful little desserts, yummy gourmet sandwiches, salads and entrees all reasonably priced to tickle the senses.
The Roasted Garlic Polenta was amazing and the Mediterranean Feta Salad was to LIVE for! The salad dressing was so tangy and flavorful I could have eaten salad all day long!
I'll definitely be back!
Three words: Portable Gourmet Goodness!!! I quite wandered in here by accident the first time, and was amazed at the array of food, especially great for lunch and dinner. Everything is prepackaged, so it's extremely easy to carry-out, or they will toast a sandwich for immediate consumption. My absolute favorite sandwich that I get almost every time is the Sierra Chicken...it's chipotle heaven! Quiznos, this ain't, folks.
I was feeling curious last time so I bought a dish of manicotti that was divine! Rich, yet not too over-the-top, the perfect size, something you'd pay twice as much at any good Italian restaurant, all for my enjoyment at home. Speaking of Italian, I had my first zeppole here, so moist and sweet-tasting.
The spicy tomato-sauce gnocchi was delicious; one time I bought a caprese mix on polenta, but the polenta didn't do that much for me. All in all, this is one place I will truly enjoy coming back to again and again, to keep discovering new worldly cuisine without all the stuffiness of some expensive restaurant.
Despite the fact that I was having a LOT of trouble eating... due to Novacaine induced paralysis of my lower left jaw/chin/tongue, the Sierra Chicken Sandwich (off of the 100 list!) lived up to its reputation. I'm not sure if it was the juicy chicken, the crunchy bacon, or the delicious sauce, but combined they became a lovely taste of heaven between two perfectly grilled slices of delicious bread.
I am definitely looking forward to trying all their other sandwiches in the future. Although this may be difficult, since I'll just want to keep ordering the Sierra... SHOOT! How will I pick?!?
Possibly the best sandwich I've ever had. They have tons of choices and they grill them all up warm and toasty. The only drawback is the place is a tiny hole in the wall and you have to take your food back to the office and eat with your coworkers.
Michou is another favorite stop of mine when searching for lunch at the market.
They make numerous types of salads, panini style sandwiches, and pastas that you can quickly pickup and take to the park or back to your office for a delicious lunch. I have not had a chance to try their breakfasts, but from the case they look hearty and flavorful.
For lunch, i usually get a half of one of the multiple sandwiches that have the roast chicken, as well as some pea & orecchiette pasta salad. The other pastas, such as the pesto are fine dishes too.
Michou is just another example of a high quality local business at the market. Definitely stop by here when you're in the area.
What a fantastic place for lunch. Like others have said, the 1/2 sandwich and salad/soup deal is a bargain, especially compared to some of the other options downtown.
The roast brussel's sprouts and the pea/pasta salad were great sides, and served in generous portions. Sierra chicken was my favorite of the few sandwiches I have tried so far, but none disappointed.
Very highly recommended!
My absolute favorite place for lunch!
If you get tired of their panini sandwich (chicken and goat cheese, pulled pork, roast beef and Gorgonzola, fresh mozzarella with caramelized tomatoes etc...) , try their salads, or pastas, or soups, or mezes, or baklava or bread pudding... They rotate their huge menu daily , and add seasonal items so it's fresh and there is always something new to eat!
It is a great mix of Mediterranean cuisines - and not just Italy and Greece, but actually all countries Mediterranean!
The chef is Lebanese with training in France, I think she recently sold the business, but the menu is still great! The new owners are always there and smiling! The staff has been the same for ages, so they must like working there :)
They have a very small place to eat, so they are definitely geared towards "eat while you walk" or "take it to your desk". But I love taking my friends here, when they visit my office on a sunny day.. We take or food and head for the Victor Steinbrueck Park. It's good people watching - seagulls, homeless, tourists and policemen on horses make an interesting combination :)
Note: You must like garlic to eat here!!!
Wheelchair access through the passage, not the main door...
They provide catering but not delivery
I love this place! They have great portable gourmet food (someone else used the term below and it's so true. I've tried the pizza, sandwiches and the pesto salad and my favorite little treat are the three mozzarella for $1. All were amazing. I would highly recommend Michou and it's great because it's located in the scenic Pike's Place Market. Amazing. The staff are helpful and more patient when the line isn't out the door. The one thing that sucks is that there is zero seating. However, there is a great courtyard just behind Michou. But what sucks about that is that in the winter it's cold and wet.
Go try Michou! It's delicious!
Always wanted to stop here but the aroma from piroshky always pulled me a stop further. Anyways today I made it to Michou n its the next fav stop for me for lunch. (already stopped there twice today)
So far I have tried the Seirra Chicken and Tuscan chicken sandwich. Really filling and great quality. Also had a piece of Moroccan sockeye Salmon . Twas nice spicy and well marinated. The sandwich costs are lower 'en La Panier and are better too (~$6.00) and salmon is 17+/lb. 1 piece of salmon will cost aprox 3+ bucks and its pretty filling with a sandwich.
Will try more things next weekend and will update further.
My favorite restaurant in the Market. Best sandwiches around. I don't know why people wait in huge lines at Piroshky Piroshky (also good) when this is right down the way. Line moves fast and staff is friendly. This is a great place to grab a quick bite, but at the same time the food is unbelievably good.
Yum! Among all the tantalizing edibles in Pike Place, this is the one I picked one afternoon last week-and I am so glad I did!
I had a delicious smoked salmon sandwich with greens, onions, and some sort of cream sauce for $6, which I then snuck into Beecher's, where my friend was eating. She was eating some of their famous mac and cheese, which I had a bite of, but I remained faithful to the Michou sandwich.
Next time I'm in the area, this is definitely where I'm headed- and when you're talking about Pike Place, that is a major commitment.
C'mon Seattle ... you led me astray! After all of great reviews on Yelp, we chose this place for our final meal in the city and were sorely disappointed. I had the roast beef/gorgonzola/caramelized onion sandwich and the boyfriend had the turkey (goat cheese, roasted peppers). The bread was so dry it literally crumbled as we bit into it ... you could hardly choke it down. We also found there to be very little meat and I couldn't find any actual gorgonzola cheese (maybe it was mixed in with the tiny bit of mayo?). We ended up eating the sandwich filling and throwing the rest away. All in all very disappointing though we did enjoy a number of excellent meals during our trip ... but one just didn't do it for us at all.
Michou has great sandwiches.
I love sandwiches. Like... A lot.
They're kind of a one-man show, even when they have more than one person working the grill or register or whatever implement requiring operation. It can get a little slow, but their food is amazing. Great little spot to stop in and grab a bite when you're meandering through Pike place market.
I moved to Seattle and wanted to live downtown. After moving up here I quickly found out that my "down town" was actually referred to as "Belltown." I don't care what you call my former neighborhood because it was close to Pike. I could shop there weekly for my fresh produce, meats, and various seafood which I finally learned to like. Discovering Pike is always an adventure with the different shops and restaurants nestled back in alleys, down long hallways, and in basements.
Sometimes you miss what is right in front of your face. Michou is directly across the street from the market in plain sight. You can identify it by the usual long line out the door. Get in the line. Wait; patiently. Order. Enjoy. Delicious sandwiches here with a variety of different salads to choose from made daily. Most sandwiches are panini style, being grilled to perfection with your cheeses melted, bread toasted, and ready to eat; not piping hot, burn the roof of your mouth temperatures.
I have found my default lunch destination.
It boggles the mind how they manage such a wide selection of fresh goodness. But I won't question the bounty, particularly when there are so many tasty vegetarian options.
This is a fantastic 8-5 lunch spot in Pike's Place!
The lines here can be pretty long but they move quickly, and the food (and price) is worth the short wait. I recommend the Sierra Chicken Sandwich and the Cauliflower with Goat Cheese.... delicious!
Seriously delicious treats for seriously little cash in Pike Place. Tons of pasta and vegetable salads, paninis with several vegetarian options, and two soups a day. $5.99 lunch specials with a half sandwich and a soup or salad. Also they have ginormous baked potatoes stuffed with various things... today they had ratatouille and goat cheese. HUGE, nearly the size of your head. For $2.99!
This is my day-before-pay-day lunch spot!
Be still my heart - food to go that is nummy and totally cheap!! This place had me at baked potatoe! Seriously, why are baked taters lacking in Seattle? You can get a huge loaded baked tater with butter, sour cream, chives, cheese and bacon for $4! They also have the greatest roasted brussel sprouts!
Be prepared to stand in line though if you get there after noon. Although it goes somewhat fast you might get up to the front and find your favorite dish sold out.
After ingesting too much mouthwatering cheese at the Cheese Festival this past glorious and hot Saturday (I want to go there right now and get more samples), I realized I was thirsty.
Walking through Pike Place Market, this was the one place that didn't advertise coffee. They advertised $2.50 fresh lemonade. I went in and they were out of it. Bastards! But wait...salvation! They had a jug full of Hibiscus Lemonade.
"What is hibiscus lemonade?" you ask with a skeptical look in your eyes.
"Just about the most fantastic iced drink one could imagine drinking on a hot day," I answer, smiling blissfully.
The best thing to happen to lemonade since that "special" pink flavor came out. In truth, hibiscus lemonade is far superior to that pink shite.
5 stars for that reason.
(I didn't try the food. I was full of cheese, people! I'll update it after I do.)
I was so ready to love this place. Everyone else seems to, and what's not to love about a grilled panini? I ordered the sundried tomato, pesto & brie sandwich and a wild rice, cranberry & walnut salad and my boyfriend got the portabello mushroom.
Apart from the warmth, which was comforting on a cold day, the sandwich was bland and greasy. The salad tasted overwhelmingly of vinegar and little else. I don't consider myself a picky eater at all, but I found nothing noteworthy about this place. Maybe if I ate meat or tried one of the soups or another dish I'd feel differently, but for $8 I've had better lunches.
THE PERFECT LUNCH.
I've been there at least once a week (sometimes 3-4 times a week) in the last 2 years. I still get excited to go there.
They have magical roasted chicken = any sandwiches and sides with this chicken are magical.
Also, the combination of smoked salmon sandwich + shrimp bisque in the cold weather makes me even appreciate the shitty weather.
Farro and Almond salad is addictive.
and, Banbaloni... this is kindda dangerous because it makes my face break out, so it has to be a very special treat for me now.
Plus for the quality of the food, the price is magical too!!!!
I LOVE THIS PLACE :D
What a delicious spot to pick up lunch! I can't believe I haven't been coming to Michou all this time. I had their tuna melt and it was awesome. I am not usually a tuna melt kind of gal, but the provolone was perfect on this. I was kind of unsure of what to get, because they had so many choices--salads, sandwiches, pasta... I think it just means I will have to be back, and that's fine with me.
Also, I almost didn't stop in because there was an absurdly long line and I couldn't tell what they carried. However, I am glad that I did wait because the line moved quickly and as I moved with the line I was able to decide what I wanted, so it was perfect.
Is there a city-wide policy around Seattle to sell alluring, large slices of baklava for just pennies a piece? Or perhaps it's a little-discussed but widely-practiced policy around the Bay Area to gouge the baklava-loving public.
Either way, baklava at Michou goes for a buck-fifty a pop. Can't really beat that. Oh, actually, Michou does, with their zeppole, of which you can get four for a dollar fifty. I can't think of anywhere else that you can get freshly-made goods for so cheap.
Well, freshly-made might be stretching it a bit at certain times. We stopped in at around three, and everything had been pre-made. The zeppole is quite cakey and comes prepared in two ways: brushed with a honey syrup or dredged in cinnamon sugar. I prefer the cinnamon sugar in terms of the flavor, although the orange flower honey is great after a few hours. I would imagine, though, that these are infinitely better fresh. I think next time I'll opt for the Tunisian beignet, as the zeppole were a bit too heavy for my liking.
The baklava, additionally, is good but not great. It's too oily for my taste. But still, for $1.50, it does the job.
Michou also has a wide array of delicious-looking and creative sandwiches and salads in true gourmet Italian-American deli fashion, all at quite affordable fare. If Piroshky Piroshki next door had not haunted us with the promise of potato wrapped in dough, we might just have had to indulge in some of the other offerings at Michou. But there's always a next time.
A solid ****1/2.
Michou Fresca is a great little surprise in the Pike Place Market.
Basically, it's a small stall-type storefront with a deli counter. From there, you select your sandwich and/or soup, it's heated on a panini press (if applicable) and you're good to go. I tried both the Tuscan chicken and the smoked salmon. The chicken was especially impressive, and the salmon was delicious too, and less greasy than I expected.
The best part was the prices, though. Under $6 for a very solid sandwich with quality ingredients? In the Market? Sign me up, and be thankful that they aren't pandering to tourists.
Great sandwiches for a great price. The salads I've had have also been excellent.
Another tasty lunch spot in the Market that should not be missed. Their sierra chicken sandwich is mmm mmm good and how can I forget about their two tomato, basil and mozzarella sandwich oh so good. Besides sandwiches they also have a deli case full of fresh salads that taste as wonderful as they look. I usually go for a half sandwich and salad, it's a filling, fresh meal for cheap. If you're not into to salads and sandwiches they also have pizza and fries and I think some pasta dishes as well.
If you are going to check them out go early or late because at noon the line can be out the door.
