I love BBQ. And finding good BBQ in Atlanta is not an easy thing. Normally a place is good at one or two meats but their sides are terrible. The meat is good but the sauce stinks. Or they have decent food but a terrible atmosphere. Michon's is a quadruple threat.
1) We had the smoked wings as an appetizer and they were DELICIOUS. Not over seasoned and not smoked dry like some wings.
2) We then had the smoked Cornish hen and ribs. Moist, smokey and delicious.
3) Their sauce is a nice mixture of sweet and tangy w/ a hint of Heinz 57. Very nice.
4) The sides are good, down home Southern. Had mac & cheese, green beans, collard greens and they are all very tasty.
The Bonus Threat - Desert. I had one of the best whiskey bread puddings that I've ever had. I converted to being a lover of bread pudding back in NO in '95 and I try it whenever it's on a menu. This is easily one of the best I've ever had. MOIST THROUGHOUT , sweet and dripping with an authentic whiskey sauce.
If Michon's were a baseball player it would be a 5-tool star. For BBQ, it's at the top of my list because they have all the bases covered.
I had heard great things bout Michon's from other people over the past year. So when my sister called to say she would be on an unexpected 6-hour layover in Atlanta, I figured that would be a great time to try out the restaurant since it's right next to the airport.
I also had some aunts in town on business so it would be a nice little reunion for all of us with good conversation and excellent food right? Wrong. Well the reunion was obviously great, but the food was pretty dissapointing.
The restaurant itself is kind of cute because it's in a loft-style building. There is plenty of banquet space on the sides of the restaurant for private gatherings with adequate space in the middle for smaller groups. There's a bar in the middle and even a dance floor nearby.
We went on a Monday night so it was kind of slow that night, maybe a dozen people were there, but I could tell the place would be packed on the weekends. Great old school classic music was on heavy rotation.
Now Michon's is known for smoked meats so I had to try the wings. I got the special with 4 wings and two sides - green beans and macaroni and cheese. A brick of cornbread was thrown in. The wings had a great smoked flavor and a side of tangy bbq sauce that was a little too sweet for my taste. I thought the green beans were seasoned well and the mac and cheese had flavor but had that mushy consistency that normally happens when it sits too long before it's served to you. I already explained how I felt about the cornbread :-)
Other people tried the chicken caesar salad that was listed at a whopping $13. But it was HUGE and featured lots of long strips of chicken, croutons and big leafy lettuce. I think my aunts were satisfied.
Overall everybody ate their food but wasn't really impressed. The highlight of the meal was towards the end when a group of Que's stopped by the table to talk to chat us up before we could leave lol
I could see myself stopping by for a drink or two or if somebody threw a party there, but otherwise I won't be breaking my neck to go ... :-\
great St. Louis style BBQ (trimmed spare ribs, not baby backs). the ribs are perfectly seasoned and smoked. (i always order mine with sauce on the side)
be sure to try the whole smoked chicken wings, as an appetizer! they also offer various seafood menu options.
Michon's is more of an upscale environment (live jazz on the wkends & dark wood decor), with a full bar, not the typical "hole in the wall" BBQ place that i generally prefer.
I'm a big fan of smoked meat, and you can cut almost anything here with a spoon. When I asked the waitress what to order she said "I like the chicken wings and the ribs, and you gotta trust a big girl cause you can tell I know how to eat." She was super nice, helpful with everything, and completely right about the food, the ribs and smoked wings were delicious and nap inducing. I didn't have room for desert but my co-worker had space for the bread pudding so I got to try some of the buttery sugary goodness.
I quipped to our waitress that the food was gonna make me fat and she responded "See, I used to be fat, then I changed my perspective... now I'm 'BIG SEXY'. " I figure you can't argue with logic like that, so come here if you wanna end up big sexy
In this area there's not a ton around except for crappy chains, if you want some good food in a laid back atmosphere you can't beat this place, they've also go t a full bar with decent pours at decent prices. On top of all the other reasons they do live jazz on fridays and do a dance night on tuesdays with a lesson before.

Ate lunch here today and the rib tips were super dry, like leather. I think they probably only smoke the meat during the day so anything you order at lunch was probably smoked the day before ( unconfirmed). I would definitely treat this as a dinner place until you can verify

Verified. Dinner is awesome, go for the chicken wing appetizer, the rib dinner, and the bread pudding and you'll leave super happy, but remember to avoid lunch cause it sucks
