I'll be honest--I have absolutely no idea how to do my hair on any given day, so the thought of doing my own up-do is fairly terrifying. That's where Karen from Michael Isaiah's comes in. When I had to get all gussied up to be a guest at that Fleur de Lis thingy, Karen came to the rescue. When I got hitched in St. Louis, Karen had my hair under control. Yes, there were lots of bobbi pins involved both times, but that's what happens when you have hair you can tuck into your pants (yeah, it was LONG not too long ago). Karen listened to what I wanted, checked out the images I'd torn from magazines and worked her magic on my hair. The amazing thing about the wedding hair was that it actually stayed in place--no small feat in humid St. Louis!
So yeah, Karen is awesome. She's friendly, she was very accommodating when scheduling my wedding hair trial run and she was great fun on the actual wedding day. From what I understand, the other folks at Michael Isaiah are equally talented and each of my bridesmaids looked stunning on wedding day. The in-laws who actually live in the area visit Michael Isaiah's on a regular basis for haircuts and are always happy with the service and their 'dos. I'm still getting used to salon prices (that's what happens after years of "just trim the ends" at Hair Cuttery), but I didn't find Michael Isaiah to be exorbitant. The space is open and comfortable, the employees are friendly and seem to enjoy their jobs and, most importantly, they do them well. I'll reserve that fifth star for when I actually get a haircut there myself.
If you're having trouble deciding between bangs and a bob, or cinnamon brown and strawberry blonde, this is the place to be. Located in Des Peres by West County Mall, you'd think prices would be outrageous, but I can get a fabulous cut and style from my favorite stylist for $45 and a t-section highlight for $40. This, compared to about $35 for a cut at Regis, is well worth the extra bang for your buck. These people really know what they're doing and can actually offer a solid opinion on what cuts work best with your face shape, and what colors work with your skin tone. You can walk in not knowing what you want and walk out with a hot hairstyle you never thought to consider. This type of service and skill is what makes this place 5-star worthy.
Ella has been my godsend stylist here, but I've heard many others are equally talented, including Derrick and Chance. For Ella, there's usually a 2-week wait, but it's well worth it. The atmosphere is chic, clean, and friendly. Coffee and cookies are available while you wait, and I'm always offered soda or water from my stylist. Enjoy cutting-edge service, skills, and style! Pun intended.
