At the beginning of the month, all of the tenants of the building where Erin W. and I had happily rented for years were served with 60-day eviction notices.  The building ownership wanted everybody out so they could sell the building and convert the rentals to condos.

The very next day, we went to an open house in East Oakland and, under the gun with only 60 days to find a new place to live and two dogs, we took a huge leap of faith and made an offer to purchase right there on the spot.  Did we have money saved to buy a home?  Hell no!  Did we think we could "afford" to buy a home?  Hell no!  Did we have a real estate agent?  Nope!   But we signed the 12-page Purchase Contract anyway, just to see what would happen.

Once we had signed and initialed every page, the Seller's broker hands me her cellphone and says, "Here, talk to Michael."

Michael turned out to be Michael Champion, Loan Consultant for Barron Mortgage Company.  

Every single day for the next 18 days,  Michael busted ass on our behalf to get us the loans we needed to make it happen.  He provided daily e-mail updates and travelled all the way from Napa on a Saturday to meet with us in San Francisco and explain every detail and answer every question.  The day we all met at the title company in Pacifica to sign the loan documents, Michael must have left Napa before sunrise to ensure that he was right there by our side, making sure every figure was right, whipping out his trusty calculator, and answering questions from us, from the title company, and even from the real estate broker.  

Seriously, Yelpers, it just doesn't get any better than this guy.  Don't trip that his office is in Napa.  If you have e-mail and a cell phone, he's as close as you need him and he will come to you when only a face-to-face will do.
