I came here because I was helping out at a job fair that was held here. And after entering through its iron-wrought black gates, I felt like I was in another world.

The mainly Black school has much of a feel of the tv series Boston. Or maybe one of those gritty, mind-stumbling schools that you've seen on tv. That's not to say that you should fear your life - because it isn't like that. It is well run and people do get in trouble if they're tardy (The guy I was with was yelling out at people if they were seen outside right when the bell rang - he may have worked in the military though).

This is also the third oldest high school in Miami-Dade county - built in 1926. While this school is certainly gritty, it is actually unique in a way that there's so many arches that frames the outdoor hallways. The bathrooms are certainly littered by pen/marker-graffiti. The cafeteria courtyard has a peeling painted bust of Andrew Jackson that looks almost comical. Another courtyard is even crazier - surrounded by 3 stories of classrooms on all corners. It feels weird when you walk through that one and you notice that during the breaks, there's 3 floors of students looking at the courtyard as if it was the main podium!

Lots of green and yellow - the school's colors. Landscaping is decent. Classrooms are well equipped - saw computers, white boards, etc. But it is obvious that this school is aging, but in many ways it stands as a relic in my opinion. Great for movies, films, tv or whatever else. It exudes soooo much character with its age and those two courtyards and its hallways (indoor hallway walls were laden with brick).

I'm reviewing this because this relic is going to be torn down probably by the summer's end as next to this school is a huge brand new high school under construction to replace this one. It's a unique Miami story that's about to fade away into history.
