Just got back from a casual dinner and was pleased with the meal and now more than ever- with the price.

I've been going to Mia Roma since my junior high school graduation party, and yes during high school I too knew many people who were employed by Mia Roma, then known as Teo's Mia Roma.

So, it turns out that on Monday's from 4pm to close its happy hour. This meant our Mac and Jack's were only $2.75 each! It just keeps getting better...  Plus, with the first beer you get a free slice of cheese pizza. Rock on!

My friend and I sat in the bar and caught up on life, my new job and his upcoming MBA. Also, sat in the bar was an older couple watching Monday Night Football, and a middle aged couple sitting together on a bench seat made for 1 making out. That was just slightly distracting as they weren't particularly sexy in any way, shape or form.

Service was good. Beer and waters refilled promptly. Our lasagnas were huge and very flavorful too. Everything came out without a hitch. We devoured most of our meals (and we are big guys- both 6'-3", 210ish) and still have leftovers for tomorrow's lunch. I ordered myself the spumoni.  The bill came to just under $21. I am happy, my wallet is happier.

I'm still giving my experience 5 stars because even though the décor can definitely use a designers touch, the ambience always leaves me wanting more and the A/V system severely needs updating (I can help with that). Those things are really unimportant when you just want a good square affordable meal. Actually the lasagna was more of a quadrilateral shape.

So one night I decided to go up and over lake Washington on my way to Bellevue, from Seattle. I was getting kind of hungry, and than it turned into really hungry. On the side of the road was this little Italian spot. I pulled in, and looked around and I have to admit, it was a little sketchy, but I figured a good Italian place should look a little sketchy right? So we went in, nice friendly staff seated us, and I ordered a pizza, and the girl had a spaghetti with meatballs. Turned out to be fantastic. It is definitely a place to recommend!

Getting into the parking lot is a pain, very few people where there which should have been a sign. I sad down and ordered, the chick that served us was friendly and easygoing. She gave us water in dirty glasses, I assumed they could be old and the clear plastic yellowed/greyed a bit but did not drink from them. (The windows and seats were kinda grungy too, another sign I shouldn't have ignored but, live and learn) I sprinkled a little shake cheese on my plate for the bread and it smelled like feet (as cheese sometimes does) and since this was unappetizing I did not eat it.

Both me and my mother had a few slices which were tasty. The very next day I get up for class and assume my mom to already be at work but, she was sick as a dog after eating their pizza (she said she didn't eat anything else out of the ordinary) and since I did not get sick myself we assume it was the shake cheese or I have an iron stomach, one of the two.

I hate to give Mia Roma 2 stars because I didn't hate it, but I can't give it 3 stars either, it wasn't very good.

We just happened to be driving down Bothell Way looking for somewhere to eat - our #1 choice didn't work out and we didn't know there was a food court outside of our destination, 3rd Place Books - and I'd been to Mia Roma in the past for a banquet and the food was pretty good so we decided to give it a try only to be greeted with mixed results...

The Good:
- The fresh, warm bread
- Alfredo sauce was nice - not too rich.
- The restaurant physically is kind of interesting.
- In the past, the pizza was pretty good
- They have many big rooms for banquets or parties and they do a nice job with those.

The Bad:
- I believe that chicken parm should be super tenderized down to a nice thin piece of chicken and I hate it when you just get a thick, normal piece of chicken.  Sadly, Mia Roma's chicken parm wasn't flat, just a normal chicken breast heavily breaded.  The sauce and cheese on it wasn't bad, but overall, I was disappointed.
- The ice tea was BAD.  Perhaps it was just over-steeped but it was nasty.
- The regular spaghetti sauce didn't taste much different than anything I could make at home out of a jar.
- Prices are kind of high.  Both items were $13.95.  I don't like paying prices like that for food I probably could've made at home and probably could've made better.

I think Mia Roma has it's place.  It's great for banquets and the pizza is pretty good, but for regular Italian food, I wouldn't eat there again.

Note to my group that left the Elite event:
Why didn't we yelp this on the Iphones etc beforehand?

The place was empty. Our waiter informed us that they closed at nine
(it was eight thirty, but he was nice enough and let us stay)
I ordered minestrone (pronounced: MINE STRONE) and some mozzarella sticks.

Asked me what I was puking up about 5 hours later? That MINE STRONE and mozzarella sticks. Was not enjoyable going down, or coming up.

Cici had pineapple in her pasta. Kat had olives in hers.

Scott liked the water.

Please note: MINE STRONE is courtesy of Julea, and Jon and Julea seemed OK with their food.

Great food cooked in a woodfire oven, but the service was horrible. Our server ignored us the whole night and the manager was doing all the work for her.

To start: this was enjoyable, not FANTASTICO.

The boyfriend and I were celebrating the start of his sabbatical by having dinner here.  We entered the restaurant to be greeted by.....no one.  There were 2 girls standing behind the counter and neither of them said boo to me.  I gently asked one of the ladies for a menu; we were only prepared to pay a certain amount for our dinners.  She (silently) handed me a menu and I looked it over briefly, assessing the selection and prices.  It seemed to be OK, so I asked to be seated.  I was told that there would be about a 5 minute wait, regardless of the fact that most of the restaurant was empty.  We were seated after the one bus-boy cleared a booth for us.  We were taken to the booth with our menus.

Our waitress, Melissa, provided us with water and a warm loaf of bread.  She also provided us with a significant amount of time to peruse the menu and chat amongst ourselves.  A little too much time.  When she finally came back we ordered.

Fast-forward 20 minutes.  Our orders arrived; three-cheese ravioli in alfredo for the boyfriend and italian marinated chicken with sauteed mushrooms and a side of spagetti.  Jimmy was pleased with the ravioli and I definitely enjoyed my chicken.  The spagetti wasn't memorable; just store-bought noodles in cut-rate marinara.  The highlight of my meal was the mushrooms.

I noticed that the menu included take-out buckets of pasta with bread.  The pizzas that I saw on other people's tables looked really good.  One mediocre meal doesn't mean that I won't be back; it's better than Olive Garden.

Hands down, the BEST PIZZA on the Eastside...dare I say the BEST PIZZA in Seattle?
I think so...heck, my WHOLE family thinks so!
Mia Roma has been a family tradition since long before I was born.  Mia Roma made me into the pizza snob that I am today!  No Pizza Hut, Dominoes, Jet City Pizza or Papa Johns for THESE LIPS, only the very best!

Perfectly cooked crust every time, excellent sauce and ingredients so fresh you'd swear they were just plucked from the garden.
Our pizza of choice  is the "Roma Special" which is around $20 for a regular size, plenty large enough for 2-3 people.  This pizza is filling - 2 pieces is my limit, but it keeps well for great breakfast the next day if you so desire...

I usually call and order the pizza to-go.  The few times i've sat and ate at the restaurant, I had a great time.  Good service, friendly staff, great full-meal-deals, including salad and dessert!

Nice hidden gem of a restaurant.

Mia Roma is definitely off the beaten path, but worth stopping into if you are in the Bothell area.  I am yet to try a bad dish here and the service is always great.

The pasta is great and so is the pizza.  Maybe best of all are the huge portions.  You definitely end up getting your money's worth.

Gotta disagree on the pasta - the Prawn Pesto was some of the best I've ever had.  Also yummy cheesy bread and salad as an appetizer.

Gotta love the dining room here - it's classic italian style, just bordering on the edge of cheesiness.

Great service and Pizza.  The pizza is very good, with very soft and tasty crust, good topping and tons of cheese.  The antipasta salad was great and big enough for a 2-3 people to share.

We will certainly go back in the future.

This place is terrible. I have wanted to try it for a while, and finally did. I wish I hadn't. This is a restaurant that needs to be showcased on Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares.  The place is a little dumpy, but would be totally forgivable if the food was edible. I don't mind older Italian restaurants that have a rustic feel.  Italian usually isn't fine dining, and that's ok as long as you give me some good eats and prices aren't astronomical.

Our waitress was friendly and served us some warm bread instantly.  We were off to a good start. We decided on a calamari appetizer and that was when things went horribly wrong!! Our calamari had an eerie resemblance of the frozen processed onion rings. Each one was exactly the same size and weird springy imitation crabmeat texture. I pulled them apart and inspected them.  We just got served imitation calamari!!! No jokes, this stuff was tasteless, but had a fish stick fragrance about it. I didn't even know imitation calamari existed until last night.  The aioli served with it was good, but I couldn't get past the fact that we were just duped into eating $9 imitation calamari.

So I was annoyed, but just kept thinking that I had my eggplant parmesan on the way, which my waitress assured me that it was very good and one of her favorite dishes here.  The first test to me of any Italian cuisine is the sauce. I was raised on my family's sauce. Every Sunday we went to our grandma and grandpa's house for a big pot of sauce and garlic bread. The sauce in my opinion was bland. It had a little spiciness to it, but that's it. I prefer a touch of sweetness to it; it help cut the acidity of the tomato sauce. That's just  my preference, but I don't really care all that much as long as it's salted and I have some Parmesan to dump on top of it.  This was not the bad part; the bad part was my freezer burnt eggplant.  It had that freezer burnt cardboard scent and flavor.  I could not eat it, so I picked at my spaghetti noodles that were served alongside, and topped with the flavorless sauce.  I tasted the mozzarella that was melted on top of the eggplant and it was actually good.  I tried to take a third bite of the eggplant, just in case it might taste better, but it didn't, and I had a hard time swallowing it.

Now onto my boyfriend's food:  it at least edible, but by no means anything that I would agree to pay for again.  He had the Trio dish that came with ravioli, tortellini, and gnocchi.  He referred to the texture of gnocchi as "marshmallows," when he tasted them.  I told him that it's because they aren't homemade and that's what nasty store-bought ones taste like. Again, my family used to make gnocchi homemade.  Just this Christmas I made them for our dinner gathering.  Nothing beats good gnocchi.  One can make it homemade, freeze it, and then boil it later, and it still won't taste like the store-bought mushy-spongy I don't want to even call them gnocchi, things.  He got a white sauce too and it was flavorful, but tasted like it has been made with processed cheese. This makes me sad. It also is irritating that I could spend half the amount of money our dinner cost us, and made a completely amazing Italian feast from scratch.

This place needs to hike up the quality, or just focus one thing they are good at, pizzas maybe? The people behind us had pizza and it looked good. Please don't go here unless you are down for low quality, freezer-to-fryer food.  I can't imagine anything at this place is made fresh or from scratch.  Who has two thumbs and is pointing them way down? Yes ladies and gentleman, that would be me.

I need to go back and try the pizza (per the other review) but I have been here for the pasta and it was pretty basic.  In other words, boiled noodles with a pretty generic sauce on top.

I've passed this restaurant several times back and forth down the 522. There are a lot of divey looking restaurants down this road and many that actually ARE divey. They all have those neon Open signs and billboards that just make it look questionable. And, it's Kenmore - not necessarily known for being a go-to spot for great dining. So, imagine my surprise when I finally decided to stop and try this restaurant.

Environment: There is ample parking and driving around the parking lot - even though there's a mobile home park right behind the restaurant, the parking area and Mia Roma building gave me the essence of Italy - not that I'd ever been there...but I imagine this place is what a non-touristy restaurant might look like. It was a good thing that there were people waiting for seating on this Fri night - all types: families, couples, friends.  The hostesses and waitresses were friendly. We waited a short time and were led to a nice booth in one of the rooms. That was a really nice thing - there's a couple of large dining rooms and a big open dining room. I don't know if they do this on purpose - but they put me and my date in one of the rooms and it looked like the big open dining room had more of the families in there. If they did that on purpose - that was good thinking. We were in a large booth that was comfortable and quiet enough for us to enjoy our meal and have good conversation. The decor reminded me, again, of a real italian restaurant (again, I've never been to Italy).

Food: PLEASANTLY SURPRISED. They brought out fresh bread and butter for the wait. It was actually quite tasty even though it was just regular baguette bread (probably fresh made). We ordered garlic cheese bread for appetizer. It wasn't too oily, maybe could have had more cheese - but it was good and I'd order it again. My date ordered the lasagna. It came out in a baked dish covered with cheese. Underneath that was the lasagna and meat sauce. He always has lasagna at every Italian restaurant he goes to, and he loved this one. I ordered the Marco Polo which is a fettucine alfredo with scallops, crab and shrimp. I was skeptical because I've been to Olive Garden (where their food LOOKS and sounds yummy, but something is always a little off - or cheapy) and the cost was about the same as something you'd get there. It was so yummy! Creamy, not oily, with nice pieces of scallop throughout and that subtle garlicky taste that a good alfredo has. I was pleasantly surprised (again)  to find a couple of big, real pieces of dungeoness crab.  It would have been better if they added (a lot) more crab and used regular shrimp, not salad shrimp though. I had my fill after just 1/3 of the plate (which I normally eat even less than that, but this stuff I couldn't stop putting in my mouth). I also ordered a Strawberry Italian soda - it was huge, and a bit too sweet for me. We didn't order dessert because we couldn't fit any more in.

To sum it up: I will go back. I want to try other appetizers, desserts and their pizza. The waitstaff was nice, ambience made me feel like I could relax but also hear what my date was saying, and the food was a surprising yummy - with a good price to match. I wish they had more types of pastas and a bellini on their menu - but there's still a pretty good mix of items to order.

It has been a while since I've been here.  Originally, Teo who was from Rome owned it and it was excellent.  He finally retired(?) and the new owners dropped quality, but they picked it back up after several years.  Mia Roma has had some ups and downs.  I want to get back and try to see what it's current staus is and when I do, I'll let you all know.
