Review from Matt G.
If you like a taqueria with a diner-like feel and good Mexican food, go up to the city of Petaluma.
A large majority of my visits and dining at taquerias have been dumps and total shit-holes.
But in the city of Petaluma, you won't get many of those up there. All you will get are great and authentic Mexican food with a diner-like feel at a family-like atmosphere.
This is my second visit to the chain taqueria. I like this location much better than the Kentucky Street location in Downtown Petaluma. This location is bigger with friendly and cute waitresses. This location is also within minutes away from the Petaluma outlet shops too. "I also smell cow turd too!"
This location also has the huge Padre Macho Burrito for $12.00; just like the one I had in the Downtown location from my last visit two years ago. But I can't eat that ginormous burrito again!
For lunch, I went smaller and had the Grilled pork super burrito for $6.75. I usually get my "silver bullet" wrapped in a foil & shove it in my mouth. But mine was naked and covered in a spicy red sauce. Thus, I need to use a fork and knife to eat the burrito. All the key ingredients were really fresh. The grilled pork was lean with a few crunchy end pieces. Combine, the burrito is just as good as any of the taquerias in San Francisco's Mission Street. My burrito: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
I also got a bowl of warm tortilla chips and salsa. For $2.00, I also got a tall glass of Horchata to quench my thirst after the spicy burrito.
This place is a favorite of many sources including Yelp and Team Mexico soccer team (with the team's autograph jersey posted on the wall).
The taqueria was also voted: "Best taqueria in Sonoma County" for the last five years.
You definitely get my vote too.Listed in: It's "betta" in Peta(luma)

We tried to go to Roy's Chicago Doggery on our way home from Santa Rosa, but darn it, they're closed on Sundays! I saw the sidewalk sign proclaiming "Handmade tortillas today!" and made the executive decision that our lunch location was found.
Soon after you're seated you get a bottomless bowl of corn chips and a couple salsas. At 2:30pm on Sunday, the salsa bar was pretty depleted, but the three I sampled were all nicely done.
g/f got the single Crab Enchillada plate which comes with rice, refried beans, and a small salad (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). Creamy and crabby filling and nice green sauce on top. Their rice and beans have pretty good flavor compared to most Mexican places where they are bland sides.
They have a few steak platters like Carne Asada, Carne Azteca, Fajitas, and Arrachera which is a marinated flank steak that I ordered. The arrachera plate comes with your choice of enchilada and I went with carnitas for that. The grilled steak comes with some grilled peppers and onions (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). A few pieces of thin steak. Nice grilled char cooked medium, but still moist and tender. A couple of small gristle spots, but otherwise very good.
I was less enamored with the carnitas enchilada where the meat was both slightly bland and slightly dry.
Handmade corn tortillas were also very good (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) Nice flavor and texture. Not sure what days the handmade tortillas are available.Listed in: Al Pastor

Actually 3.9 Stars.
Service I have experienced has always been spot on.
Imo... one of the better salsa bars in Petaluma, as it has
one of my favs.. Chile De Arbol.. not rare.. but uncommon
among most salsa bars. Prices are decent, quantity is good
and honestly everything I have had is good, sometimes really good.
Fish Tacos...average. Super burrito with the Al Pastor / Carnitas /
camarónes mix was... amazing, yes..ok... I had had a few beers and had to
special order it, but try it!!!!
They have a few locations I have yet to try... but if your in town give it a shot. -

I live in the neighborhood, and this food is GOOD. I am from San Diego, and I have eaten a lot of mexican food to compare to and be disappointed by in comparison...
But, the staff seems to like to pack the place as full as possible with waiting patrons rather than give out reservations. Why not give a realistic time to come back by at least?
They tell you 20 minutes, which means 40, and it's very unpleasant to wait crammed into their tiny entryway and walkways while you wait at dinnertime. Too cold to wait outside most of the year.
Even though I like the food here more, sometimes we go across town to another restaurant (La Azteca) for some good burritos and chill service... -

This is what I'm talkin 'bout! This place is AH-MAZING! I LOVE the guacamole, and OH-MM-GEE the shredded beef tacos are to die for. They remind me of a Mexican restaurant I used to frequent in my hometown - Santa Maria. The tacos are amazing, the margaritas are delish and again... the GUACAMOLE! You need to hit this place FO SHO if you're dying for some delicious Mexican food. Keep up the good work Mi Pueblo!

Dam good food, great prices. This place always has people in here and at times it is busy, busy, busy so be warned there may be a wait but a wait well worth it.

Dear Mi Pueblo,
You are really great. You're the closest thing I've experienced to being back home in San Diego, because your food is just like the kind of comida Mexicana I've grown up with way down in Southernmost So Cali.
I've tried several dishes, and so far, everything's run the gamut between "good" to "omg f-ing delicious." Your al pastor is some of the best I've ever tried - not super fatty or soggy, but perfectly cooked with a bit of chew and char - and your asada, chicken, and carnitas are great.
Huge portions, nice, creamy beans and good rice, awesome salsas, I can go on and on. So as Yelp says, "YAY, I'm a Fan."
What stops you from becoming a four star review is one thing, and one thing only. And it is a huge thing which is why I had to drop my rating down to three stars, and that is LACK OF ATTENTION TO DRINK REFILLS.
Rule of thumb for a good casual restaurant: Check in on your guests 10 minutes after you set down the main course. Look to see if there are drinks on the table that are at least half empty. If a customer has to put their empty glass at the edge of the table, then you are too late. But if a customer does so, AND YOU COMPLETELY IGNORE THE MESSAGE EACH TIME THEY'VE COME TO VISIT, then that's inexcusable.
Do you have a "no refills unless the customer asks" policy? If so, that's unwise, especially in a casual resto. Besides the fact that your soft drinks cost a little more than the normal cost of a soft drink (I'm used to about $1.50 to $2.00; Mi Pueblo, you charge $2.25) then I practically expect the refills to keep on coming.
So unless you change your policy or train your servers better, I can't go any further in my rating... which is so sad because I really want to give you that four, but you REALLY have to earn it.
Sorry.
Sincerely,
M -

I've had this review saved with simply the words, "Mmmm, al pastor" for months now.
Really, I don't know if I need to say more. Because I come back again and again for the same thing -- Burrito con mole with al pastor. Boom.
But I've tried a variety of things and everything is delicious. I gorge myself on their chips and pico de gallo. The service is always super fast as well. I prefer this location slightly to the one downtown because I've had more consistency with the food, but both are excellent!
The small parking lot can get pretty crowded on busy nights around dinner time, so I do my best to avoid peak hours. But if the craving for burrito is strong, I'll brave the odd crowded parking lot and waiting for a table. -

Get either the 2 Chicken Enchiladas Mi Pueblo...the Chicken Tortilla Soup...or the Shrimp Fajitas...or even the 2 combo plate with an enchilada and a tamale! Seriously I love this place and have been going their for the past 10 years, it's the only place to go when I come back into town!

Review from Eric L.
Pretty legit, stacks up well to their Novato location. I'm a fan of both. Their chips and salsa are always solid. I can recommend most everything on their menu because I like how they season their Carne Asada, BBQ Chicken and al Pastor. You really can't go wrong with any of their meats, but those are my favorites.
Vegetarians can also get in on the fun with their Vegetariano Mas Burrito. Grilled veggies instead of meat, pretty darn tasty too. -

Too bad this place has gone down hill. Used to be great food and service.
The food took 30 minutes to come out...and was not good...the waiter or head guy was an a$$....last two times have been a real bummer...too bad it used to be very good local fun food.
Will stick to the MANY other Mexican places around town.
Oh yeah, they had smokers outside in the eatin area and were pretty lame about it... -

Came here on a Monday night around 8 p.m. and the place was empty. Uh oh I thought... this is never a good sign. I stepped in and wasn't sure whether to seat myself, or to wait for somebody to come over and help me out. Uh oh.. this can't be good; some place this unorganized doesn't bode well for the rest of the evening... As I sat down at a booth, somebody came over promptly and asked us if we needed anything to drink. As we were looking over the menu -- which was HUGE! so many items, we were asked about 2 times if we were ready, which I appreciated. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and was able to answer the few questions that my friend and I had.
We ordered a taco salad with beef tongue I believe, and some sort of seafood platter. Both items came in about 5 minutes. A+ for speed of food delivery. I've had to wait upwards of 1 hr at some restaurants I've been to.
The taco salad had SO. MUCH. beef tongue. I was definitely overwhelmed by the amount. A little rough, but forgivable for the generosity in amount. I also liked how they have guac and sour cream in the salad free of charge. At most places, they charge for it so I was definitely happy to see it there as I'm a fan of both in my taco salads.
The seafood platter was really large as well. I was surprised by how much shrimp they had in it too. Though a couple shrimps were on the tough end (overcooked), most of them were cooked perfectly and tasted very tender.
With these two dishes, my friend and I were really filled. The bill came out to about $20 which I think was very reasonable.
Random things:
- they accept credit cards
- free chips and unlimited salsa bar :) -
Review from Grace Y.
I like my Mexican food simple and palette pleasing, and Mi Pueblo delivers. I'm particularly fond of their chips, salsa, and gucamole. It may be basic stuff, but if their chips and dips aren't in order, I usually won't visit again unless their food is really that good.
My bf and I like to share our food and demolish it like kids. A huge bean and cheese burrito, topped with enchilada sauce, and topped again with a handful of crushed up tortilla chips.
Who said that I eat fancy all the time? -

After eating nearly weekly for the past seven or so years here, my family has also chosen to break up with Mi Pueblo Taqueria. I have to agree with the post by Emily V. The service and food have really gone downhill since they opened their restaurant in Cotati. It now takes far too long to get service even AFTER one is seated, far too long to get the food after one is ordered and no one ever comes back to check to see if things are ok, drinks need refilling or someone would care to order another beer. Currently seeking another Mexican restaurant in Petaluma. Not thrilled with any of the other sit down places, but at least I don't have to wait forever for subpar food. I don't know what happened, maybe David is just spread too thin but things have changed. We miss the old days...

Epic.Salsa.Bar.
My friend and I had a blast trying all the different salsas and pairing them with our entrees. So many flavors, so little stomach real estate.
The salsa bar has tons of variety. I wish I could name them so I can be more specific, but they weren't labeled and I'm not pro enough. But I can tell you the green one is very refreshing. The orange one is tasty and tomato-y. Then the various red ones range in spiciness. Basically, just try all of them. Go crazy!
I love that they have "exotic" meats to fill your tacos, burritos, and mouth with. They have beef tongue, beef cheek, etc.
The portions are huge. My friend and I didn't even finish half of our respective entrees so come hungry. -

Petaluma, CA
Yawn, pretty average menu and funky place inside. Prices are what you might expect (cheap) considering the run down building average meats used and poor wait staff (why are they so overwhelmed?).
Tell them it is your birthday and you get to wear the hat.
Beans are good as are the tortillas. Cheeses seem standard fare. Rice can vary from day to day. I prefer the shrimp dishes, though the Chili Verde (pork) is a highlight on the menu. The shredded chicked tasted as if no spices were added. On several occasions I have seen and tasted tamales which appeared unfrozen and usually pretty "meh", but once I had one and it was pretty good and so we ordered another six that night.
Dinner for two with house margs for under $50.
uninspired from kitchen to table, but cheap casual dining and have to admit I have eaten here more than ten times and would probably return. -

Can't go wrong with amazing Mexican food at great prices, this place was so popular they opened a second one done the street! They have every food combo you could ask for with very fresh ingredients, the staff is always consistent and friendly, they never short change you on anything you order. You have to go here!

**Please notice that YELP posts this review below ones that are 5 star rated, but mine was posted at a much more recent date.... Hmm....
Well,
After 5 years of loyal patronage to Mi Pueblo, I think we will be finding another Mexican food restaurant to frequent. The past 5 times have been awful and we left wondering why we came! Perhaps the sweet taste of success and lots of tips and $$$ left them all complacent.
Now no one gives a %^#&($% whether you sit there or not and wait.... whether you have water or not.. or if the food was even prepared right or not. Mine was wrong twice and I am not that picky. I just wanted chicken... not pork.. not beef... and not the attitude. (The smoker thing is true too... Didn't anyone tell them about second-hand smoke, but I think they were friends of the owner and so CA state laws don't apply.)
I will go and buy 5 different kinds of salsas and make my own salsa bar at home. Sorry, Mi Pueblo. I have to break up with you... you don't care about me anymore. -

This, and it's Kentucky st location are my go to places for mexican food. My guy and I come here all the time and get Super Nachos and a combo plate to share. Way more than enough food for both of us!
Some nights there is a little bit of a wait, but the staff have always been nice about it. Then again, we generally don't go out on Friday or Saturday's so that probably helps! -
Review from emy b.
Five of us come shuffling in...this place was pretty busy for a late Sunday afternoon. Our food comes out hot and was pretty yummy. We did notice that the seasoning for the meat we had (in our buriitos, flautas, enchilladas, etc) was a bit on the bland side. I did like the trio of salsas they bring to the table with the chips, and the mild (non existent spice one) was great for the kids, which was served warm. If you're here, try the Hibiscus aqua fresca, that was good too.

We've been eating at Mi Pueblo for years now and love it. The food is always good, service good most of the time. Parking can be challenging in the evenings, but if you keep circling, you can usually find something. David and his crew are warm and caring. You really can't go wrong at Mi Pueblo.

We both had the chicken enchilada with guacamole beans & rice and it was very good. The salsa had a good taste and a nice bite. The chips were fresh. The meal arrived promptly, but after that our waitress seemed to have forgoten about us until time to pay.

We fed my family of 7 for $40 and had enough left over for every one to have leftovers for lunch the next day! I had the Macho Burrito with chile verde and the chile verde was great. My wife had the chimichanga with carnitas and the carnitas were excellent also. Great salsa bar. Not the best one ever (that goes to Senor Sam's in Medford, Oregon) but still very good.
They also refilled out chips and salsa without us requesting it which is great service in my book. -

"Is it always crowded?"
Most always, yes. BUT, it's just because this is one of the best taqueria's in town! Yes, it's authentic, yes, they have delicious food, yes, they have the great margaritas! My favorite dish: the Macho Burrito. Great flavor on the grilled meat, perfect ratio of rice & beans, love the guac/sour cream/sauce on the top. Mmm! Service has time to be friendly even as they're super-busy. We've been to all of the Mexican fooderies in Petaluma, and, again, this is one of the best. -

Macho burrito. I know I should branch out, but I can't. These things are good for-
1) Eating. Duh.
2) Making friends who think they can eat large quantities look like a putz.
3) Feeding mid-sized nations for a year.
Behind the bar, Chuy makes a damn fine margarita, and makes waiting for a table something I almost look forward to, which makes the uaually packed weekends bearable (weeknights can be pretty darn busy as well.) Service is good, and the only time I can remember a botched order was when I tried to order take out from a cell phone with minimal reception. My fault, yet they instantly corrected it. One of the few Mexican places in Petaluma I still enjoy. -

I LOVE THIS PLACE! Everytime that I come here I try my best to try something new, and everytime, no matter what it is the food is awesome. My personal favs are the padre macho burrito (steak, chicken, or al pastor), the tacos (piled high with tons of meat), the nachos (carne asada), the tamales, and bañuelos for dessert! If you like chicken, you can choose between shredded or grilled; I prefer the grilled. The prices are very reasonable. The only draw back is that this place is very popular. So it's always crowded andbyou may have to wait a bit at peak times, but it's worth it.

this is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Sonoma county.
We prefer their first location on Petaluma Blvd N.
The blended margarita is perfect. the salsa bar ranges from very mild to quite hot.
their food is fresh, quite tasty, and service is attentive, friendly, and lively.
today i had their prawns wrapped in bacon. yummo.
came with a creamy chipotle dipping sauce that by itself was so good that i was licking it off my fingers, not wanting to waste any of it.
cost versus value: this restaurant gets an A+. -

A special happy shout out to Yelpers who reviewed this fine
establishment. Yup- due to the powers of Yelp, that's how the
handsome man and I decided upon visiting this place for our
few hour field trip to Petaluma.
Trust me...many happy Petaluma reviews to come.
* * * There are two Mi Pueblo locations * * *
This particular location has a kick-butt ambiance.
Simply put...not fancy, yet FUN!!!
I almost burst into Mexican song...I was feeling the spirit.
Salsa and chips are served and refilled as needed...good stuff.
Salsa has an awesome kick to it.
The handsome man ordered a "Macho Chimichanga."
Can't help it...sing along
"Macho, Macho, Man.
He likes to be a Macho Man."
My handsome macho man savored every bite of that gigantic
macho chimichanga. It was served with large portions of rice
and refried beans.
I had a super steak burrito, minus holy-guacamole. I don't do guac.
Wow! Delish!
Huge burrito packed with fresh foods; steak, rice, beans and
sour cream. There was a sauce poured atop of the super duper
burrito which added a little pizazz.
Service was pretty good considering the place was happily
buzzing with many customers. Wait for entrees was a smidgen long;
25 minutes, yet the place was very busy. And we were content
munching on chips.
No doubt the place does wonderfully...take out orders were steady.
Customers were beaming with food joy.
We don't do booze, yet noticed they served mucho margaritas.
Seems like had quite an extensive drinks list.
Siddown.
Sit
Down.
Cost for the table service outta-this-world food...
a smidgen over $16.00.
For my friend Raider...
As per other reviews, it sounds like they have great fish tacos!

This is by far and above the best mexican food in Petaluma, maybe in the county. I highly recommend trying this place. I've been eating here for years. Don't be surprised if you can't find a parking spot. (it's always packed) and don't be scared if you have to wait a minute or two for a table. And definitely don't be surprised when you are eating the best burrito you've ever had. I suggest that you order the Pollo Asada (it's the bomb diggity) but everything I mean EVERYTHING is scrumptious. A can't miss when in Petaluma.

Try the birria.
Seriously, outside of East LA or my friend's abuella's house, this is the best birria I have had.
Birria is essentially spicy goat stew . . . and in the hands of a caring cook, can be turned into a most tender, flavorful, and non-gamey meat. I'm a fan of gamey -- but even my friends the chunks that they happened to snag from me. Slow cooked all day, with the bones and all the good stuff in, the broth is the best part . . . it leaves that characteristic stickiness on your lips as you savor morsel after morsel,
Portions were plentiful (my friends had the carnitas, which they enjoyed), and the service attentive.
Indeed, from the outside, it does look like every other Mexican restaurant that you might pass on the street. With the neon Corona sign in the window and a special for margaritas. And if that's what draws you in, then great.
Just stay for the birria. -

OMG I just ate at Mi Pueblo one night and another competing Mexican restaurant the very next night (the unnamed one I cannot mention, but it rhymes with "Bres Sombres" and is downtown by the movies). Anyway, the unnamed one got only a single star for good reasons the Mi Pueblo now gets my five stars because 1. the food is hot, authentic, and delicious, 2. the prices are more than fair and could be higher, and 3. the waitstaff (and owners) are friendly, helpful, and attentive, and 4. the salsa was the best ever. Obviously, Mi Pueblo is the place to go (and the other Mi Pueblo downtown on Kentucky is excellent too, and the others around the county I bet are excellent)
