I'd never had Peruvian food before...but it's delicious! It's interesting how french fries are mixed in with a lot of their dishes. Jill K. tells me Peru has like the largest variety of potatoes or something...who knew?
Their lomas saltado was so good I inhaled the whole plate. And their sangria was a great compliment to the meal.
They have paella! Maybe i don't need to be impressed by that but i really don't find that many places that make it so it's sort of a no brainer for me. I've only ever had paella in Spain so i guess it can't quite compare but i figure for stateside paella i'm pretty happy with it.
and i rarely talk about service but it's really excellent here, not gonna lie they take care of you quickly and efficiently.
parking is really tough tho...
After a long and hectic day driving back and forth between the Fillmore and the Bayview for a high school fair, then shuttling my students back home throughout the Bayview and Daly City, my co-worker/carpool buddy and I decided that dinner and a drink were in order. We dropped off the last kiddo on the Daly City/SF border and cruised down Mission looking for a place to eat...... we parked on Mission in that area that is Bernal Heights before it crosses Cesar Chavez and becomes the Mission and wandered around a bit, looking at all the restaurants until we spotted this place and headed in.
Holy giant plates of deliciousness, Batman! We each had a plate heaped high with delicious rice (how do they make rice so delicious?), meat, potatoes, plantains and other yummy veggies and spices. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. We shared a 1/2 liter of sangria (though if I hadn't been driving I could have torn through several liters of the stuff, it was just that kind of day....), and finished off with an AMAZING Mousse De Mango. WOW!
Great food, great ambiance, and great company! What more could I ask for (aside from not working 80 hours a week)?
We tried this place on a recommendation from a coworker, and we were not disappointed.
The parking was fairly difficult, after driving around for 10 minutes we finally decided to park in the Bank of America parking lot and pay the $12 flat fee.
We arrived at the restaurant at 8pm on a Saturday night, and were seated right away, the restaurant was full, but not completely packed.
We had the ceviche which was soooo lemony and delicious, the plantains (soooo goood with the sour cream), the beef dish with the french fries, rice and egg, and steamed snapper (a little too much curry taste to it, but my husband liked it).
We tried the cinnamon flan, and it was good, but not the best I've ever had.
The service was fast and friendly, and the atmosphere was nice and casual.
Good authentic Peruvian food, not expensive like Limon or Fresca. Definitely recommend trying it!
I constantly fall back in like with MLP. The service is so friendly, the food is so good, and it's now only a 10 min walk away from my place. So much goodness there. Favs: Lomo Saltado, Tallarin Sattado De Pollo (the spaghetti equivalent of the Lomo S), Arroz Con Pollo. Recently tried the Picante De Mariscos for the first time b/c I was trying to replicate a dish I had in Peru, and while tasty, it wasn't quite there. This will not deter me, though, from returning time and time again ...

I forgot how much I liked Mi Lindo Peru. I haven't been back for a few years on account of living… Read more »
A member of our group was reading the NY Times Travel section and it was discussing Peruvian food in SF. Of the restaurants mentioned, Mi Lindo was among the most "unpretentious" and so we decided to give it a shot. The other restaurants featured in the article appeared upscale, intimidating, and expensive; not Mi Lindo!
I'll just go ahead and begin by revealing the primary driver of my 3 star rating. The waiter kindly brought water to our table, a standard restaurant courtesy. All was well. A few minutes later, I notice my water glass has lipstick marks; I'm FREAKED OUT! It was pink. NOBODY in our party was wearing lipstick. I know I didn't mix glasses with the guy across from me! THIS IS DISGUSTING!!!
I remained cool as I quietly placed the glass on the adjacent table and proceeded to mentally begin planning my Yelp review! I hope this was an isolated and accidental incident. But in my mind, I was targeted!
Aside from the above noted MAJOR problem, the food good. When the waiter brought out the dishes, the smell was amazing. Taste was great as well. We ordered drinks: Sangria. It was my first Sangria, so I can't compare, but I hope it was a clean glass.
Dessert was good as well: Chocolate Cake and Fried Banana With A Peruvian Ice Cream. The chocolate cake clearly wasn't a Peruvian dish and now that I think of it, why did I order chocolate cake? But the Fried Banana w/ Ice Cream was tasty and full of goodness. Plus, unlike the chocolate cake, it actually tasted like the dish was prepared on-site in there own kitchen.
The atmosphere is very casual and simple. No need to impress anybody here! I would go back if not for the water incident.
Went for a walk with my man and found this spot right by my house and it was so so good! We got some steak dish that came with french fries in it. Sounds strange but it soo soo good. We also got the chicken and rice. Was also really good but needs a little salt. They have great bread and some kind of great sauce that goes on it. This place does not look so great from the outside and the ambiance is lacking but it is really a great spot. Cheap and tasty! I highly recommend this spot if you are in the area or are looking for a great Peruvian spot!
I first came here back in 2002, and was thoroughly impressed and loved everything I had and whatever my friends had ordered. I even finished my buddies' leftovers (though I usually do that anyway, so that doesn't necessarily show how much I loved the food).
It took me 9 years to eat at this place again, and I was pleasantly surprised that it was still in existence. I brought a friend who never tried Peruvian food, and I was sure she'd be impressed! Unfortunately, my second round here was not very satisfying. All of the food I ordered didn't taste as good as the first time I went. The rice seemed dry. My friend didn't like nor finished the food (I didn't eat the leftovers). The food wasn't bad at all; it just didn't impress me like the first time I came here. As if I came to a different restaurant! Granted, it's been seven years, so a lot can change in that time (management, chefs, even recipes).
This was my first time at Mi Lindo Peru and the whole experience was great! I had their specialty, the bistek, which was covered with onions, yummy seasonings, a plantain and fried egg! Their ceviche is also yummy and different, served with yams and potatoes. My kids shared an appetizer of fries and sliced hotdogs. I know, sounds really unappealing, but it was actually really tasty! We had to have a liter of sangria, of course, which is homemade, but not as good as you'd find on the other side of Mission at Cha 3x's! The service we got was excellent, and even though the atmosphere seemed cozy and intimate, they were still very kid-friendly!
I've been going here close to 10 years now, and never once did I feel like the food or service was "off"! I've tried a number of different items on they're menu, and all of them were great. I think my favorite is the "Mar Y Terra" (they're version of Surf & Turf), the steak is cooked with this "silky" sauce of some kind, it's so good, I always order a bit on the side to pour over my rice! There is also this interesting appetizer that I always get too, I don't know the name of it, but it is like a shrimp salad spread over thinly sliced avacado, oh my god I think I will have this tomorrow, no joke!
I ordered a dish with chicken and peas, mushrooms, onions, cilantro, curry sauce, and rice. It tasted just like I imagine my cooking could taste, only better. Everything was really crisp -- the flavor, that is. Perfect under-stated zing to it. Highly recommend. Good service, too.
This little Peruvian restaurant really grabbed my attention because simply how nice it was a change from your average everyday Mexican food places. Overall, the service here was really nice and the people were surprisingly friendly despite how busy and the rude groups of people who were coming in and out of the place.
If you are in the area and want to try something new, stop by here.
The Ceviche Mariscos was good and fresh, but I found it too expensive for the portion size. Arroz con Pollo was huge. Tons of rice, with peas and corn, but I only found 3 pieces of chicken and I felt that the dish was overpowered by the taste of cumin. The empanada was ok. the meat mixture was much more sweet than I would have thought.
Service was great! Our waiter and server, kept our water glasses filled and our needs taken care of.
I was expecting more from Mi Lindo Peru, because of all the wonderful reviews, but I will probably be coming back to try the other items on the menu.
As a Peruvian i have very high standards, and this place is that good! Its a hole in the wall homey feel very peruvian like place!
All their dishes are delicious and the lomo saltado is probably my favorite! VIVA PERU!
This place has a nice hole-in-the-wall atmosphere. You get in, sit down and relax. Everything here is delicious with a comforting home cooked feel. Everyone is friendly.
Pescado Al Ajo fills the void. Mmmmmm.
A big fan of the ma and pa, i wanted to *LOVE* mi lindo peru.. The halibut ceviche was remarkable, my kudos to that. And service was sweet, very humble yet efficient, made us feel like familia. But other items lacked a spark that would've brought me back-- Sangria was more juice than wine (a faux pas on the girl's nite meet-up spot), other tapas lacked inventive flavor (how can ya mess up shrimp w/ garlic its hard to say, but i wasn't particularly warm so it didn't scream "fresh off the skillet" in any way..) Mayonnaise was on heavy feature (really? Peru? i need to refresh my geography but i've not encountered that before in this cuisine) which limited my "wish list" of menu items (ok, i can't dock them stars for my mayonnaise gag reflex, but i'll mention it in case you are my twin of tongue :) That said, the setting is homey, small enough to feel intimate and it did us well as a spot for collecting "all the latest" while getting our garlic breathe on.. (and when boy came to meet @ the end, i just had him finish the shrimp to shore up the situation..)
Yum! An inexpensive but tasty establishment. I came in a little low energy and hypoglycemic, left with a spring in my step.
I had the Saltado de pollo, and was quite pleased. Dinner was about $15 a person with tip and no drinks.
If I lived in San Francisco, I would definitely be a regular at Mi Lindo Peru. I recently had a wonderful meal here with a friend. Since it was my first time dining here, I wanted to sample of few dishes while I was there. So, my friend and I decided to order a few appetizers and share an entree.
For our appetizer choices we opted for the Anticuchos, Causa, and the Ceviche Mixto. Everything was quite tasty. But my favorite appetizer was the Ceviche Mixto. It's a little pricey at $14 but I think it's worth the price for the seafood you get and the quality of the dish. It was fresh tasting and contained a lot of seafood. The Causa reminded me of a deconstructed chicken potato salad. Its a mixture of mayonnaise and chicken sandwiched between steamed potatoes cut into two rectangles. It's topped with eggs and olives. The Anticuchos are beef hearts flavored with spices and served on skewers.
We decided to go with the Tallarin Saltado for our entree. I've had Lomo Saltado before and love it. So, I wanted to try something a little different. This entree is basically Lomo Saltado but substitute spaghetti for the rice and fries. It was good but I think I prefer Lomo Saltado. The dish however was well seasoned and the beef pieces were cooked well. For $8.95 (at lunch) the portions were quite huge.
To end our wonderful Peruvian meal, we decided to get a scoop of lucuma ice cream for dessert. I'd never had this flavor of ice cream before and I loved it. I would describe it as orange in color with a nutty taste.
The servers here were really nice and attentive. And, willing to answer any questions we had about the menu. I definitely would return here the next time I visit the Bay Area.
Oh yeah, I'll definitely be taking my boyfriend here when he's in town in a few days! I went for dinner with a friend, and it was a very cool experience. Completely unpretentious, and though $13.95 isn't the cheapest entree in town; it was a steak. A really good steak. With a ton of flavor. And the Peruvian beer, Cusqueña, was a GREAT compliment to the meal! Loved every bite. Plate was quite clean.
A low-cost, good alternative to the better tasting, higher end venues like Limon or Fresca, but you definitely get what you pay for here. Well the quantity of food is bountiful, the quality is less appetizing than the fare you might receive at Destinos. The wait staff is attentive, and the ambience it ok. I generally love Peruvian food, but found myself ordering fried shrimp over the lomo saltado, as it wasn't appealing to me. The other folks I was with last night quite enjoyed their food, and will most likely return to Mi Lindo Peru. I on the other hand will save me pennies and try INKAs up the street the next time out.
this might be the best lomo saltado i've ever had! healthy portions, and the sangria was good too.
note: we came in at 8 pm on a sunday, and there was plenty of space. however, as it neared 9 pm (which is their closing time), it became more and more crowded. i don't know if this is typical, but 8 pm on sunday was a good time to go, just fyi!
Maybe it's hype ( a good friend calls Mi Lindo Peru the one meal she misses most in SF, and yelp give 4*'s), but we were supremely disappointed, and again, I try to be pretty forgiving, but I just don't get it... off night? main chefs were off that night? Who knows? But I couldn't even think of giving this place more than 2*s. Bland food. Drab setting. Not that cheap for what you get.
Head to Piqueos instead.
After a bunk and somewhat pricy meal at La Mar, I was complaining to friends. They all mentioned this restaurant and said that the food is very authentic and very delicious. I had to try it. And I did! And I loved every single dish!
I order the fried chicken in garlic sauce first. Sounds like a chinese dish right? Well it's not! It's really deliciously fried bits of chicken in a dry garlic sauce that has a TON OF GARLIC. It was SO AWESOME!! And for my main entree I had the lomo saltado and omg.. It was great! Flavorful and tender. Sooooo much better than the lomo saltado at La Mar and for 1/2 the price.
I tried a bit of my friends dishes as well and everything was just really good. The portions are generous and the service is really great and the servers are really hot!
I enjoyed the beef hearts.
I wish they offered a million different potatoes and some indigenous fare.
I've never been to Peru but this place serves the best peruvian food I've had. Generous, varied, and flavorful! What else can you ask for? I took my parents here and they loved it as well.
Everything was done well except the veggie paella, which we found on the bland/dry side...
Most definitely good enough to warrant "Go-To" status.
was in the neighboorhood and figured I would try a random place.. peruvian food it will be.. this is only my second time having peruvian food..so, I don't have much expectations.. we looked at the other diners to get some ideas..
first the wait was quite a bit..then again it's a sunday night.. then it took a while for them to come by and take our orders ( a good 15 min went by)..the food had generous portions... I wish the service would be a little better.. they didn't come by our table..not until towards the end did they refill our water.. but, the food was good.. would go back..
This place serves good food, decent prices, and as authentic as you can get here- as it is confirmed by my Peruvian co-worker who is from Lima.
Anyhow, the portions are generous. We couldn't finish all 4 different dishes we ordered. But, let me tell you... I love the deep fried fish topped with fried garlic. OH so YUMMY!! I also enjoyed the beef heart.. its very tasty and its chewy, so if you don't like chewy food, I suggest not to order it. All the dishes are flavorful including Lomo Saltado and Pollo Saltado. They are so GOOD. The homemade sangria is very good also.. sweet, easy to drink... dangerous!
All four dishes we got with the portions given and 1/2 liter of Sangria plus 4 glasses of Peruvian beers.. just about $100 with tax. Not bad. I'd go back!
Most definitely a great treat to give a shot. The sautéed beef with fries, onion, and tomato was delicious the first time i went there, but was noticeably blander the second time. Both were tasty, so I say go for it.
The spanish paella was fantastic but a little bit homogenous in flavor, which was great, but just not as exciting as the beef dish. Also, the calamari in the paella was fantastically tender and flavorful, which was great because I'm usually not too impressed with calamari that isn't deep fried.
All in all, the service was a treat, and the prices during lunch special are pretty reasonable. 4 Stars!
WHOOP! THE'r IT ISSS!
I'm somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars here. I met some "Peruvian" friends here this week and was pleasantly surprised. When they told me to meet them at the Peruvian place in the Mission I thought we were going to Limon... but Limon is closed... for good. Anyway, I finally found out where it was exactly. Sketchy neighborhood and the restaurant is a little worn but in a cozy sort of way. Same great Peruvian flavors and decent sangria. We all shared different things like ceviche and Picante Mariscos. Like I said, it was cozy. The prices weren't cozy though. It was about $15 a plate and with sangria, apps, dessert, and tip we ended up spending quite a bit. Service was very friendly as well. All in all I thought it was a great alternative to Fresca and Limon, the other Peruvian restaurants in the City.
Food with zing! Service with refreshing no-nonsense style.
They basically serve seafood, chicken, or beef over rice or spaghetti. Sounds boring right? Bzzzt! Wrong. This is the tastiest stuff on earth. The meats are well marinated and spiced. You gotta love a place where you find french fries mixed inside the entre.
My only gripe is that some many months ago, they stopped using safron in their rice. It's now plain white rice. Darn, but still mucho tasty.
Speaking of mixing french fries into your entre, Ali Baba's lamb shwarma on 19th and Valencia is mucho yummers as well.
I went a few months ago with some friends and I think about this place. I should have written a review back then but I still remember what was so yummy. If parking were easier, I would have been back already.
When I go back, I need to go with some more friends so we can order more and try more things. Definitely need to get the Ceviche Mixto, Lomo Saltado and Aguadito De Mariscos among other things... anyone in?
Delicious! The sangria here is amazing the the waiters are all so friendly. Luckily we got here right before the crowd came so we didn't have to wait outside the restaurant. The food is really good and simple. The portions are very decently sized. We had three tapas and a paella and could not finish everything. The paella is delicious as well as their ceviche. Definitely will come back!
I'm a big fan of Peruvian food, and when I found out about this place I had to come and check it out. I Had the Arroz con Pollo and some fried calamari -all topped off with a cusquena (Peruvian beer) it was all delicious, and I look forward to coming back soon!
I'm not too familiar with Peruvian food, but every time I come here, I always over eat, and would still want more. I don't remember ever not enjoyed something from the menu.
The only complaint is that sometimes I still smell the restaurant on my clothes after a meal here.
Keeping it simple...
Great food, GREAT sangria, big portions (I just had my second half for lunch and am stuffed again), wonderfully warm staff. We had our toddler with us and they kept him very entertained and were very helpful.
My husband had the steak and shrimp, I had the steak with the plantain (which was delicious).
Only negative, steaks were a bit overdone for both of us. But the shrimp were yummy!
Mi Lindo Peru ended up being the culprit of my "I'm so bloated I can barely breath & wobble home" syndrome. But, what a wonderful way to experience Peruvian food for the first time. A relaxing dinner out with some friends & quality eats really tops the evening off.
The food, which was reminiscent of Spanish food was excellent! I ordered the Bisteck a lo Pobre: a Steak topped with an egg & onions served with rice, potatoes, and plantains. The portions are big & the combination of it all was very tasty! The plate was flavorful with all the right seasonings and my juicy steak was cooked to perfection. The cold sangria went well with the meal, although the small bits of fruit was a bit too mushy for me. They also serve bread with butter and salsa beforehand.
Service was great, and the waiter was very nice & helpful. No complaints about it! He even offered dessert, which I sadly had to turn down because I overstuffed myself.
The place is pretty clean, decent sized, and great for a date or dinner with a few friends.
As for the bathroom, kinda creepy the window was open & across from umm possibly the kitchen window? And it sort of smelled like pee, but the fact board told me "It takes 50 muscles to swallow" Okay pee smell I guess I kind of forgive you...
I woke up the next morning a bit more smarter knowing about the 50 muscles & how delicious the Bisteck a lo Pobre is. I will be back soon!
I loved the food here! Our group tried several dishes but my favorites were the Arroz con polo, Saltado de beef, and some kind of spaghetti with beef and garlic. The food tasted great and left wonderful flavors in my mouth! Portions were also huge and prices were decent.
Service was also good. Our servers were friendly and definitely took care of our group.
The restaurant was also nice and relaxing. Good for quiet Peruvian meal!
I'm definitely looking forward to returning here!
This restaurant is one of my favorite places. I love so many dishes there. Thinking about the food is making salivate as I type this review. I love eating the chicken appetizer, the garlic prawns, the garlic fish, the lomo saltado, and the tallarin. The soup and salad is good as well. Mmm...and the bread and the sauce that goes with it. *drool* Haha...everytime I go there with my friend she gets her happy juice. I dont drink alcohol but I've heard the sangria is really good there, too. I can't wait to go there again. Hopefully, I have some free time to go there soon. Yum!
Can pretty much stay your lindo for all I'm concerned.
The steak order recommended by the waitress was kind of dry and flavorless. The breaded garlic fried chicken recommended by the waitress was REALLY oily. A couple of the pieces were deep-fried batter. The garlic mushrooms were tasty.
When they say something comes with garlic, it REALLY comes with garlic. I love garlic, so it's all good for me. May not be good for u.
Service = the slow. 3 peeps working the night we were there, Kieu mentioned that the 3 could actually cut it but disappeared pretty often and totally off-queue. Felt the frustration from neighboring tables, as well.
Parking = the lose.
A tad overpriced.
Ok, I had to throw in my 2 cents for this place.
I've been coming here forever - so long that I think I've met the whole family who runs the place - parents started it and then their children, brother and sister, have taken it over...but I digress.
If you eat meat: TRY THE ANTICUCHO... don't ask what it is (it's lean and delicious) then have the Ceviche, the Lomo Saltado and the Champiñones al mojo de ajo. Finish it with a Peruvian beer or wine or have some Inca Cola if you're on the Wagon.
Yes, the place is not as fancy as Fresca, Limon, et al., but the food is good, plentyful and the service is good. Plus, no "Fusion" here as in the previously mentioned eateries. I ebven tried Inka's up the street and I always come back to this spot. I mean, I even love the french bread with that hella spicy salsa thing.
