This place was recommended by the fellas over at Irv's Bike Shop. My gf and I took their advice and glad we did. The lady who took care of us made me feel like she was my grandmother (chocolate chip cookie sweet and warm hugs). She brought us a pitcher of ice cold jamaica (on the house),  and continued to accommodate us with an intuition that almost seemed psychic.
We both ordered tortas...
BITCHIN'
The best torta I've ever had....
Hit the spot and was made with love...

A perfect spot for a long lunch....

O.K. this lady makes a mean torta and that is all you really need to know. The coffee drinks are o.k. but I'm not heading to Pilsen for coffee. Especially for the most part when you order coffee in Mexico you get Instant and a spoon. That isn't the case here but either way, did I mention how f*cking good the tortas are?

We have had the standard ham and cheese, which is very tasty but not the crown jewel of the place. That would be the Pork Loin one, sorry I forget the name. I forgot to tell her no mustard on it last time but either way it was still pretty tasty. Decently priced although maybe a bit high for the neighborhood but I challenge you to find a better one. Somethings are worth paying the extra dollar for and these sandwiches are some of those things.

The smoothies and stuff aren't made with fresh fruit which would really put this place over the top but either way it is worth checking out.

Yes this place rocks  I love the older woman who busts her ass to make sure you have everything you need her tortas are the shit and she makes me feel like I have a mexican mother at least once a week.  I would definitely go here all the time even if I didn't live in pilsen.  this place is never packed and should be my boyfriend and I love it here.  I especially love that she makes her chicken torta with leg meat dark meat rules the breast is inferior.

I have to admit this is probably my favorite cafe.  The owners really make this a warm and inviting place. They care about their business and they really want to make sure you enjoy your meal.  My favorite sandwich believe it or not is the veggie sandwich. The bread is always soft and the veggies are always fresh. I also recommend the tortilla soup.

The owner, Dona Meche, is so freaking sweet. She alone may be the reason to come back time after time to this subterranean café/restaurant. But another good bet are the tortas (made with fresh ingredients all around) and the Mexican coffee, which has a little stick of cinnamon dropped inside (drink it black...I'm not one of those people, but it actually tastes better with no accoutrement). Nice spot, and much quieter than too-popular Jumping Bean and Nuevo Leon, which are "nada fuera de lo comun."

My companion and I decided to stop here for a cheap refreshing dinner after an even more cheap and refreshing swim at the pool.  This tiny garden level coffee shop/sandwich place/bakery boasts extra cool AC as well as outdoor seating depending on the weather.  I amazed myself and possibly the lady at the counter by refusing the English menu and tempting fate by reading Spanish.  Disaster?  Definitely not.  I ordered a chicken breast sandwich which was stuffed with roasted chicken breast, cheese, avocado and the usual lettuce, onions, and tomatoes.  It was amazing.  My companion felt similarly about his ham sandwich.  They also offer a ton of cakes and pastries as well as the internet.  $11 bought a delicious meal for 2 people.  I will definitely come back.
