I recommend Mezzaluna, an enjoyable hotel based Italian restaurant, which is slopeside across from the gondola in Lionshead. The food is tasty, with interesting flavors, and the prices are moderate.

Overpriced and mediocre restaurant that takes full advantage of their location and their customers.

Located directly adjacent to Eagle Bahn Gondala in the Lionshead area at Vail Mountain.  That's pretty much all that it's good for.

Service was slow, condescending, and laughably ridiculous.  Let me help you get the picture...

Imagine an employee on Christmas Eve ready to leave work at 6 pm and you are his last table with 30 minutes to spare.  This is the last thing he says to us: "Well, it's Christmas Eve, I hope the other server has been taking good care of you.  I'm going to leave now because I hurting to go home.  Oh yeah, and it's Christmas Eve.  Let me get you your check".  Mind you, we were not done with our meal, and we barely started eating.

He then proceeds to sit directly adjacent to us at the bar, in his coat, mittens, and beanie, getting a drink and waiting for us to give our card and write him a tip.  Once we were ready to pay, we had to walk our own check to the bar as he was merrily drinking his booze, and then personally hand him the check with the tip on it.

Seems to me that we were providing him more service than he provided us.  Now that I think about it, I know it was Christmas Eve, but he definitely did not deserve a 40% tip.  But, my companion, being the generous man that he is, decided to do so anyway.  Needless to say, we will NEVER COME BACK!

It's nice to have a spot so close to the mountain with good views and decent food.  The pizzas are pretty good and have the extra thing crust which is nice.

I've also been there for dinner and the food was good but nothing to write home about.  As mentioned in the other review, there just isn't anything that truly stands out.  Similar comment on the decor which is very plain.

The waiter was friendly, but not very educated on the menu when we had questions.  When we ordered red wine we noticed that the vintage brought to the table was a newer vintage of what we ordered from the menu.  When brought to the attention of the manager, he simply offered it to us at the same price.  I'll let you be the judge as to what he should have done, but we would have expected the price to be reduced since for red wine typically a newer vintage is less expensive than one a year or two older.

I would love to give this place 5 stars but honestly there are only 2 things I love on this menu.  The pizza is by far the best Pizza I have had, anywhere in the country. It's the perfect thin crust, flavorful toppings, baked in a huge, hot oven right in plain sight.  The Calamari strips are the other thing I love here. They are slices from the Mantle instead of the typical small mantles and tentacles.  Other than that I wasn't too impressed. The Veal with Gnocci is good, but could be better.  The pastas are all just good. Nothing really stands out here.

The staff is amazingly nice, the atmosphere in the bar is great although the dining room is a little awkward.  Best of all this is one of the only restaurants on the slopes. You can ski right out the back door into the Gondola and vice versa.

If Jody is bartending ask him for his specialty Detroit River Water. Then again anything he makes is good... oh especially the Hot Chocolate with Bourbon.

Good food. I would recommend eating here.

I will try to not be biased here when writing this review. My fiancé and I are having our wedding here soon and I had never tried the food so that was a concern. Today, 2 friends of mine and I stopped by Mezzaluna and had lunch. They both had the chicken linguine and I had the rock shrimp pasta dish. All of our food was well prepared, the pasta was cooked perfectly, not overdone. The only thing we found ourselves doing was adding salt and Parmesan cheese because it all tasted a little bland. The bread was delicious and the olive oil was some of the lightest tasting olive oil I've ever had. We also had the cheese and tomato pizza which we thought was a little greasy but the thin crust was amazing!

The only thing that was missing was fresh Parmesan cheese. That would have been nice.

I grew up in St. Louis and ate breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Italian hill routinely so I know good Italian when I have it. I've also been to Italy and the food there is amazing, of course...

Mezzaluna is a decent restaurant to go to while you're in Vail and I'm sure we'll love it for the wedding.  Overall, I would highly recommend it!

Great location, good food and friendly staff! Service was not perfect but not bad. They got very busy soon after we sat down but our food came quickly. The pan-seared salmon and chicken parmigian (spelling?) were both very good! I would come back.

We had a great dinner at Mezzaluna in Lionshead last weekend. Sitting on the patio overlooking the ski mountain only added to the evening. Mzezaluna had a great two-for-one deal going on, but their prices are so reasonable anyway, you don't really have to take advantage of the deal. We started with some giant calamari in a red chili pepper sauce that was very good. I had a giant piece of chicken parmesan with a side of pasta and marinara. The ambiance and food was delicious and the price was reasonable.

Best Blood Mary ever made! No one can make bloody mary's like Mezzaluna. Chicken Pesto pizza was good too!  Can't wait to go back!
