The Aztec Burrito is amazing and the steak quesadilla is a close second. But they do not blow you away with mexican awesomeness. You have to factor in the price to quality ratio as well, both the burrito and quesadilla mentioned above are $9+.
The wait can be brutal on a weekday around lunch time...just as a heads up. -

Literally just finished my meal but eaten hear plenty of times. The burritos are assembly line style... What kinda meat? what kinda beans? Not really my thing, I'm more of a taco truck aficionado. So I order straight from the grill to get the freshest meat possible.
I wait 30 minutes for my food (a lot longer than any taco truck in the area). The shrimp taco had barely any meat in it and was on a bed of cheap packaged lettuce!? They obviously DON'T know Baja style seafood; I'm looking for nicely seasoned fish, shrimp, fresh cabbage with a cooling white sauce and a dabble of Pico. So don't order anything seafood here. The Al Pastor taco is a little better. The marinade was lemony sweet and you got that grill mark flavor too. Wish there was at least some Pico but all in all they don't skimp on the meat. The tortillas were soggy and fell apart due to the foil wrapping, and it probably was just a bad tortilla.
The price not so great $3.80 (Shrimp) and $3.00 (Al pastor) for 2 tacos. I could of gotten 4 higher quality varieties of tacos at any of the taco trucks in the area for less than 2 bucks a pop. With 3 people working the assembly line, 1 working the grill, 2 at the register... This is why they probably charge so much. Ive seen 2 dudes alone create better food than all of them combined. It is a joke.
Ambiance: Long but fast moving line of semi yuppies, Diego Rivera prints everywhere.
Service: Free chips and a salsa bar, Not very fun or happy feeling.
Food: Try there Al Pastor if your into pork and a strawberry drink, everything else is pretty mediocre.
Overall Score: 2.4 -

Not impressed with the burrito (I'm too spoiled with Mission burritos!). I've made my way exactly once since my work relocated to SOMA. I'm a firm believer burritos should be good without salsa or hot sauce. Mine was pretty bland. I didn't have time to get the sauce. I'm sure I'll be back as a regular since this is the only Mexican in the area, but I love that it's in the middle of South Park.
What should I try next time? -

A bit pricey, a long line if you visit right near noon -- but still the best Mexican you can get in the neighborhood if the taco trucks are nowhere to be found. Tough to find a seat so I'd recommend a to go order.

I haven't been here in a while, I no longer work nearby and it's a little too far to get there and back during my lunch hour. Once in a while I make the trek even though it means eating my burrito as I walk back up 2nd Street. :D
Very, very tasty burritos. I've never had a bad one here. They're perhaps a little on the pricey side (if you get a super or Azteca) but they are delicious and pretty large. Everything tastes really fresh. I like that they have a lot of non-standard options - veggie options beyond just 'bean & cheese' (they have tofu burritos & tacos, and delicious broccoli burritos). *I* am not going to eat a tofu burrito, but it's nice that they offer them. It makes it an easy choice when I'm going to lunch with vegetarians. I could go on - they just have a much more interesting selection than your average burrito/taco place.
Who serves the best burrito in SF? I will never get into THAT discussion again... but Mexico au Parc is one of my favorites. :) -

yo queiro mexico au parc! It's not like this is the only place nearby that offers mexcian cuisine, but this is by far one of the best places nearby to get my south of the border fix and can't make the long 15 drive to the mission. this place is always packed. sometimes the lines are out the door. the staff are pleasant and the food is delicious! i usually stick with the nachos but i've tried their burritos which are good sizes for the price you pay. the salsa is always fresh and sometimes a mess but only on busy days. I blame the customers for that! be neat! Their strawberry agua fresca is really good and not too sweet.

This is officially my favorite taqueria in the land of wonderful, abundant, delicious taquerias. That is quite a recognition, as I used to eat at taquerias 4 times per week for many years. Then I moved out of SF into the land of Chipotle and Qdoba. Arghhh!
The veg options at Mexico au Parc are great, the food is fresh, the salsa bar offers five fantastic salsas. What else do you want in a taqueria? Horchata? I don't know if they have horchata... but the food is really good, and the salsas are great.
5 stars for a taqueria? Keep in mind, that is in the context of a taqueria. If good, fresh salsa is not important to you, then it's probably not worth trekking over here during the lunch rush. And, as far as I know, they close by 5pm, so dinner is not an option.
Unlike some of the cranky reviews here, I have never had any problem communicating with any of the restaurant staff. Getting a table, on the other hand, is always a challenge. -

Mexico au Parc is a nice Mexican restaurant to check out if you're in the South Park area, but I wouldn't kill myself trying to get across town to eat there. The service is friendly and the portions are large. The burritos are enormous, and they definitely come with a fork and knife prerequisite.
The ingredients are fresh and they have *gasp* real classic Coke in the glass bottles in the drink case (Definitely worth at least 1 star for that). It can get pretty busy at lunch, and I wish they would be open for dinner, but I'm still a fan.
If you're eating in the 2nd st/S. Park area, check this place out before throwing your money away somewhere else in the area. -

I was quite prepared for the madness I experienced here because I read several reviews here first.
Important stuff worth recapping here:
1. Only the cashier speaks English everyone else just makes random gestures, usually to indicate you are in the wrong line. Next time I will use my Spanish to make them feel more at ease.
2. There are two lines: different price points, different amount of time for food prep. Burrito bar is the line to the right, you can only order from the menu over the burrito bar...pay attention!!!
3. The line moves quick, so don't be discouraged.
Stuff tastes good here, but its not mission quality. I wanted more flavor for sure, but sine there aren't too many options in the area, I will probably come back. -
Review from Jenna L.
The burritos here are okay but I ordered a shrimp fajita burrito from the grill and it took FOREVER. While the burrito tasted fresh, it wasn't worth the 20+ minute wait from the time I ordered. If I go back, I will definitely order from the regular line where you get your burrito made just like Chipotle.
I did like that they had whole wheat tortillas and black beans and I love this area in South Park. -

Alright, really I might say four stars, but I want to see them get over 3.5 overall. ;)
This place serves one of the best tacos in the city: fresh ingredients, house made salsa, sizable, and SUPER affordable. The salsa is a little different every time I go in.
Don't be fooled by the long lunch line from noon to two, they serve at lightning speed. -

Super adorbs little mexican joint in the middle of South Park. There's always a line stretching out the door, but the wait is worth it. There are two lines, so pay attention when entering. The line on the right is for all the regular foods and the one straight back is for grilled items.
The sucky part is the min. required for credit card purchasing, but other than that, the food is good. The messy area is the salsa stand next to the register. Maybe they should move it closer to the door. A couple times people were getting their salsa and managed to spill on patrons standing near the counter.
Definitely a great place to try out and fill up. -

San Francisco, CA
This place is decent and convenient. It is nothing to write home about, and I wold never seek this place out if I didn't work literally around the corner, but I am always satisfied after eating here.
Mexico au parc (yes, a Mexican restaurant with a French name, indeed thaat's indicative) has a great location right on South Park in SOMA. Come lunchtime, the place is flooded with the daily mix of techies on a lunch break from their startups (I'm in that group) or art students from the Academy of Art across the street. There's often a long line at lunch, but it moves very quickly for takeout. Sitting inside at peak time can be more stressful.
There's two lines--get in the line to the right. The other line inside is more expensive options. If you want a grab and go meal, which you probably do, get on the right side. Do not expect friendly service--they are trying to get everyone in and out as soon as possible.
The meats look really good and I've been told they are and that the sauces are bomb, but as a vegetarian I get the Tofu Ranchero or the Supper Veggie burritos. Both come to under $6 and I can save half if I'm not totally starving. Note: I ask for hot salsa and these are NOT spicy. Everything here needs more flavor!
Good selection of tortillas--whole wheat I'm a fan of, Spinach is also an option--and they move fast. The burritos I mentioned are satisfying--they are definitely filling--but you are not going to bite into one and think "DAMN that's a good burrito!" You will think "Yay, my stomach is not growling anymore." And that counts for something. They are decent, not great.
When you go to pay they will put a handful of chips in your bag, which is nice. The chips are NOT GOOD. Maybe just because I am a saltaholic but these taste unsalted and kind of taste like nothing. Then you get your own salsa at the bar next to the registers. The red onion/cilantro (at least I think that's what it is!) are bomb. And I haven't tried the aguas frescas yet but they look delicious.
Bottom line: decent food. Great setting. It'll satisfy you. But don't come from far away to go here. Grab a burrito, sit on a park bench, soak up the sun, and all will be well. -
Review from Ziyan C.
I had to get the sope after they'd run out last time. Luckily I got the very last one! However I realized this also means I got that last shell that mustve been sitting on the display all morning.
Sope
- Cute but I realized this was basically a mini tostada. The sope itself should be softer, more bread-y. This was kind of stale and crunchy.
- Chicken was pretty good: tender, flavorful, juicy.
Veggie tostada
- Pretty good fried shell, though maybe a little too crispy (hard to eat with a fork).
- Good deal ($5.50 for veggie) - they give you extra beans for veggie, and as with everything you get tons of sour cream, guac, and lettuce =).1 Previous Review: Show all »

I've had lunch here a few times and loved it each time. Its not extremely impressive but its good Mexican food at a okay price. I've had a burrito, tacos and tostada. All were great but the shrimp tacos seem to be over priced but at least they taste good.
The only downfall to Mexico Au Parc is that lunch time is a hassle but hey what can you do? There are a bunch of little businesses in the area and they got to eat too! So when its busy you might be looking at a 10 to 15 minute wait plus the extra wait if you order from the grill. Ordering from the grill is worth the wait.
If you're in the SOMA / South Park area go try it out! -

Ever since I discovered this little place in the middle of South Park, I can't get over it! It's 80 degrees in SoMa and my co-workers and I are figuring out where to eat outdoors... (a light-bulb goes off *ding!*) Mexico au Parc it is!
Instead of getting a quesadilla this time, I went for something smaller. I got a "Super Taco" with tofu. I was initially going to get two tacos, but the worker recommended I get one since it's super-sized. The super tacos are fat - and I mean FAT. It's as filling as half of a burrito because they stuff beans, lettuce, your choice of meat, sour cream, and a whole lot of yummy-ness in them.
They also give plenty of chips and you pack your own salsa. They have a small section in the restaurant where you pick and choose which type of sauce you want to go with your order.
Mexico au Parc, I'll be back for more - lots more.Listed in: Cheap Eats

San Francisco, CA
If you're a newbie to this place, the best advice I can give is #1 come before noon and #2 stay to the right. The line is almost always out the door around noon and I'm not sure what's at the end of the other line.
My usual order is a veggie burrito (make that a super when I feel like splurging). They always get my order right, but they somehow mistake me saying "to-go" for "for here". Maybe that spit guard between me and the order taker has sound proofing capabilities?
I like that they give you a scoop of chips with your order (not like Maya, down the street, where you've hit the jackpot when you've got more than 8 chips total in your to-go bag). And they have a salsa bar (not like Maya where you have to pay extra for salsa).
The food is consistently good, well priced and the line moves fast -- a good combo for grabbing a quick and tasty lunch. -

I ordered a burrito but everything inside were leaking out after the first few bites. In the end I was not eating a burrito, but a plate of rice, beans. I can't give more than two stars to a mexico restaurant if they don't know how to deliver a proper burrito. They added a small slice of lettuce on my burrito, but two stars remain to the place.

San Francisco, CA
This place is genuinely terrible. They skimp on everything, the meat is dry (obviously made early in the day and left under the heatlamps for hours), the veggies aren't fresh, the lines are long and the employees are rude. The worst part are the stale tortillas.
I have a feeling the location makes them lazy, as they are smack dab in the middle of South park resulting in the giant lines stretching down the block. I am pretty sure a joint that only served PB&J in this same location would draw simliar crowds. Ate here twice and swore to never go near it again.
They make no effort and they don't deserve your money people! Walk a couple extra blocks and go to Victor's. -

Ever since my relatives moved out of South Park, I haven't got a chance to visit the park in a while. It was lunch time and tacos sounded good at that time. Luckily this place was nearby and so I ordered their Azteca taco. Ordering food here during lunch hours is quite complicated. It's crowded, paying for your meal seemed impossible, and picking up your meal took long. (This was on a Tuesday afternoon)
The tacos were good. But it's not worth $4.00 for 1. They could've gave me 2 for the price and long wait. Although i love how they have open salsa bar, that's for the 3rd star..but then again they were very limited giving out their complimentary salsa chips (dine-in only).
I would like to try their bowls (burrito?) was not sure what exactly they call it but they look really good. TO GO this time. -

San Francisco, CA
Great place, you'll find the traditional Americanized Mexican food (a.k.a. Burritos, Nachos etc...) and they are actually pretty tasty.
The place is really nice to go for a lunch break, service is good and friendly.
I usually always have the "Azteca Burrito" and it's great, quite massive for a tiny price.
The "Aguas Frescas" are a must, Horchata is really good, so try it!
If you're ever by South Park and want to grab some nice food, give it a try!
$8 credit card minimum, you'll probably spend a bit more for a hearty meal. -
Review from Erin G.
Berkeley, CA
This place is delicious, and the service is great. I prefer the tacos to the burritos, but everything I've had has been solid. Fresh and tasty, and hits the midday Mexican-food-craving spot.
To the people complaining about the confusion about the two lines: Really? It was that hard to figure out? There are clearly two menus and two different places to order from those two menus. Think for a moment and quit your bitchin. And the grill line takes longer because... wait for it... they have to grill your food. Not just scoop it into a tortilla.
And to the people complaining about the staff's lack of English skills: Seriously? A) You're incorrect. B) Regardless, you're in a taqueria, and the staff are really nice and always get the orders right. What more do you want?
This is an excellent lunch spot if you work anywhere near South Park and like good, fresh Mexican food. -
Review from Kevin O.
San Francisco, CA
I'm giving this place 1 star not because of the food (which is so so), but because of the shear incompetence and assinine way in which this restaurant is run. To top it off, the staff are just rude and couldn't care less about customers.
If you order certain kinds of burritos (it's not at all clear which ones), the ladies in the burrito line point to a different part of the restaurant, and tell you in their broken english "no order here, you order there".
Of course "over there" there is no one to be seen, just an empty counter. I tried going to said counter, but was completely ignored by every staff member that walked by. Eventually I gave up and just went to the register, where the guy acted even more confused before finally taking my order. This happened to the guy behind me too, who just gave up and pleaded, "ok, what am I allowed to order here?" My burrito ended up being made in the back or something, and took 5x as long as the rest of my party, no explanation.
I will not be returning. If you're going to have bizarre ordering rituals, you need to explain it somewhere on a sign, or at least have your staff speak enough English to explain what the hell is going on. -
Review from Kori S.
Same old story - fast, convenient and reasonably priced so I find myself here alot even though it's not particularly amazing.
I'm a chile relleno burrito with refried beans and spicy salsa kind of girl. I do love chile relleno and the fact that they stuffed it into a tortilla? Brillz.
Plus, these things really are huge and they have Mexican Coke. Just be sure to wipe off the lip after you pop the cap b/c they tend to have a bunch of gross rust around the top.
Anyways, the ladies have always been perfectly nice to me if anything just a little difficult to understand. But I've got the routine down: they ask what you want, what kind of beans, what kind of meat and what kind of salsa.
A-OK Mexico au Parc. See you tomorrow. -

Okay, I've been won over. I maintain that they aren't the best in the entire world, but sunny lunches in the park make this a great workday option!
I get the tacos or sopas, which look pretty small, but when you get down to business, they really fill you up. And for under $5, that's a pretty reasonable deal. I hear that the prices on burritos went up, but whatever. You don't need to eat 5 lbs of beans and rice anyway. Don't be greedy. Did you know that a it takes about 8,000 lbs of fresh seafood a day to keep the blue whale well fed?Listed in: The Clearance Rack, La Señorita Salsa

The last time I was here was 19 months ago. It is good to see them still going strong. Lunch time on a weekday they are packed. The burritos they serve are made to order with you choosing exactly what you want inside. Multiple types of tortillas, beans and meats. They are made large enough to stand on end and easily be divided into lunch and then a snack later. Yum!

Review from David D.
It's not a cheapo burrito joint.
After dropping off my laptop at the laptop hospital, I decided to take some time to enjoy a neighborhood I haven't seen in 7 months. South Park was jumping with commerce today! The economy is alive and well in San Francisco. People were interviewing at the tables, talking about new job assignments, and phoning me with opportunities. Yes, phoning, but none of the other diners seemed to mind.
The steam table looked about normal for a burrito shop. I ordered 2 super tacos, which turned out to be beans, rice, shredded lettuce, shredded cheese, sour cream, and carne asada piled so high on 4" flour tortillas that I couldn't even see the tortillas. These, with a real Coke hecho en Mexico, cost $9.75, and I got a free basket of corn chips on the side. There was also a salsa bar, in case I wanted something on the chips. I ate the tacos with a fork, because I couldn't pick them up.
The weather was beautiful, as were the clientele, and it was a pleasure to walk through the park before and after lunch. The Gran Oriental Filipino Masonic Hall dominated the scene, and apparently had a lot to do with the park's redevelopment and revival -- there were also Gran Oriental Filipino apartments on the north side of the park.
It would be nice if the 30 and 45 stopped closer to South Park, but I was able to find the offset bus stop "at 3rd and Brannan" without too much trouble. Hint: It's closer to Townsend than Brannan; keep looking.Listed in: Mission Bay

Came here again for lunch today, and put to use my prior knowledge of the strange nuances that go along with eating here. I ordered from the register OPPOSITE the entrance (i.e. the one with fresh-grilled meat), which allowed me to skip the 10-person line of people who didn't know any better. I went for the carne asada quesadilla, my buddy got the al pastor quesadilla.
I hit up the salsa bar, and like before, had to navigate around and say "excuse me" to at least 37 different people. They do have good salsas though; the salsa verde was especially thick and flavorful, and the pico de gallo really was excellent.
Again, the carne asada tasted like it was from an American steakhouse, and again, the al pastor tasted like a Chinese dish.
Not much changed, but I find this place so fascinating that I'm going to give it a fourth star. The quesadilla turned out to be less than $7, and with the excellent salsa bar staring at me from across the room, I felt no need to shell out $1.40 for sour cream and guacamole.Listed in: Lunch in SoMa, Mexican Food in SoMa

Who knew such a nice and cheap Mexican joint hidden away in little South Park? I did not know this little pocket of San Francisco existed until today, but I'm loving the fact that it's close to my workplace.
I must warn though, drippy tacos can ruin everything!
DRIPPY TACOS = A NO-NO
Seriously, both my shrimp taco and steak tacos were pissing salsa water. The steak was good and there was a lot on one taco. The shrimp was peeled too. Still, I regret getting hot instead of mild because I was dying from the salsa they put on it. I wish they had not put any on and just let me do it myself since they have a salsa bar.
3 tacos + 2 drinks = about $15

Best $5 lunch in the South Park area. Five bucks buys you a regular burrito with your choice of meat (or a veggie one for less) and a trip to their famous salsa bar. And free chips. It's a very filling meal.
Their grilled chicken tastes nicely charred. Just right. The tinga chicken makes your burrito too wet and messy. The carnitas are really, really good. I also recommend the wet burritos. They use high quality ingredients and give you lots of choices (pinto, black or refried beans? spinach, regular, or whole wheat tortilla?)
DO NOT miss the salsa. They make the best salsa in town and if you put tons of it on your food, everything you eat there will taste really, really good.
I haven't tried them for breakfast yet but it's nice to know that they have that option.
Bummed that they aren't open on weekends...or for dinner.
Other tips: Get there early on weekdays to beat the lunch crowd. Parking can definitely be an issue too, particularly around lunch time.
The more burritos I eat, the more I miss Mexico Au Parc's burritos. They have the best grilled chicken and salsa. It's the only Mexican eatery I've purchased salsa from. -

I wouldn't recommend coming here in morning for the breakfast burritos. You don't get the bang for your 5 bucks, and the chorizo tasted re-heated from the previous day.
Both the super and the azteca (wet) burrito cost the same. I love the red sauce for the azteca burrito. Lines move quickly during the lunch rush. Added bonus is they don't have those cheap flimsly forks, I mean I know its plastic forks but they have the more durable ones for take-out! -

When I've eaten too much Japanese food, I get cravings for Mexican food (don't know why). In those occasions, Pancho Villa Taquiera -- my idea of fast, cheap, basic, and yummy Mexican food -- used to be the fix.
Today, I had lunch at Mexico au Parc, and it has replaced Pancho permanently. I immediately liked it when I saw choices of meat -- beef, chicken and pork. They were chunky and dry (i.e. not drenched in sauce). I followed most other people and got their burrito. They melted the cheese on top with sour cream, guacamole, salsa and some sauce. It was so delicious.
But why are they NOT open for dinner and weekend? When I am supposed to enjoy your cheap beer and wine, unless I change my policy of staying sober during weekday daytime? What I'm supposed to do after a big Japanese dinner on Friday night? -

A Little Mexico Au Parc translation:
tostada=taco salad. I stopped ordering the burrito, because the Tostada just takes the same ingredients and puts them in an easy to eat DEEP FRIED crispy shell. Yum, Yum.
Also, this is one of the few places I'll actually drink a coke, because they stock the kind made in Mexico (Hecho en Mexico) con sugar AKA Cane Sugar, NOT High Fructose Corn Syrup. Yum, tastes like when I was a kid.
Sadly, though, the portions are so great that this is a once :::burp::: in a while treat. -

Decent but pricey, not very authentic. Highlights: Steak quesadilla, wet burrito, tostada. Chips are too tough and salsa not great too. Everything is about 20-30% more expensive than it should be.
I've been going here for years but it's honestly just mediocre and pricey for mexican food. If you want real mexican you gotta go to the Mission. If you don't have that kind of time, this place fits the bill.
Location is great though, right across the street from South Park so you can lounge in the sun and grass.. but I wouldn't recommend it. There's dog poop everywhere because of a-hole yuppies who don't pick up after their dogs. -

The taco line is a feast for the eyes for a hungry hungry hippo such as myself. Your dream feast can be built with any combination of meat (in many varieties of sauces), veggies, beans, anything that you desire, really, and yea...that s*& was good.
I have been craving their carnitas ever since I ate here with the bf and my friend/realtor extraordinaire Claire to sign paperwork and scarf down some lunch. My chicken mole taco was also quite good, and love the free little basket of chips and salsa bar. Claire mentioned that the seating can be a bit tough during the lunch hour rush, but we managed to easily snag an end of one of the picnic style tables.
A definite must if you're in the area and need some delicious, fresh, and inexpensive sustenance.Listed in: Tasty Vittles

I feel like a failure. It's been over a week.... with nary a new review. Thank god for my friend amanda, who's helping me find new places to eat close enough to work for me.
I showed up in fear... nay in sadness. I only get 30 mins for lunch, and this place is popping like a prepubesent pimple! Like splattering on the mirror popping.
I get in though, and I see how quick the line moves. Happier than a swedish school girl, I order a delicious carnitas super burrito, get some chips at the register... and voila! 5 minutes later I have a seat and a burrito bigger than my head.
I like the food here, but I mgiht have been more in love with the ambiance. All the workers are smiley, it's not too loud, and you can sit by a window and look at the highschool kids skateboarding in the streets.... (I try not to wish they'd fall... but I'm only human).
The burrito was highly above average, thought not the best I've ever had. TO those people complaining about a price hike... get over it! Perfectly fair prices given the location and business..
Sorry your 8 dollar burrito now costs 6 instead of 4... it's still a deal!Listed in: A New Exploration of Afternoon…
