Mews Tavern has 69 beers on tap at all times. This alone calls for multiple stars. There are some canoes, some kayaks, and some trees. I am not sure why, but I dig. It appears to be one third Irish pub, one third pizzeria, one third Mexican cantina, and somehow succeeds at all three. I came here for lunch but it seems like they have plenty of fun themed nights. Also, there is a little sign you can flip that dictates if you need service.
But, yeah, 69 beers on tap...
Mew's Tavern is apparently a staple of South County - the place where everyone goes to hang out, drink, and have a good meal. And this place did a pretty good job of this.
First, their beer selection: impressive, and the one my partner tried was apparently very good. The waitress was knowledgeable - a must with 69 beers on tap! - and that went a long way in the drink department.
The food is bar food - admittedly, very good bar food. Wings, nachos, and anything else you could expect is there. We had a good dinner, but what bothered us was the slow service. It took far too long to get the meals after our appetizer, to the point where we were sitting there, bored.
The restaurant is extremely big and easy to get lost in (believe it or not!). Once you sit down, make sure you know where the nearest bathroom is, or else you may never find your table again!
Finally, the parking lot is simply ridiculous. Not enough spaces, and the traffic flow is a nightmare.
The place gets 3 stars for now because of the slow service and decent food. I would like to go back when it is not as busy. Perhaps we will get sit in a less abandoned part of the restaurant and receive our food in a more timely fashion. There is certainly potential, though.
Thanks to a head's up from someone about the RI Board of Health website, you can see inspection results from many restaurants. Looking at the Mews, I can see why I feel the place is dirty. Here's the link to the BOH site -

They are not a very kid friendly establishment, contrary to some other posts on here! I am a local, and have gotten sick from the food there twice! I will go and enjoy some beer on tap, but I WILL NOT EAT THERE! Can you say "over-rated"????
The good:
1. The beer selection. 69 beers on tap, including Arrogant Bastard. Any East Coast bar that has a Stone Brewery beer on tap has to be at least 4 stars.
2. The beer specials. While only 3 were on special, they were all quality beers, and a fairly good value (3-3.50 for a pint).
3. The (female) bartenders. I think whoever is in charge of hiring the women at this bar has the same taste in women as me.
The bad:
1. The parking lot is a shit show.
2. The big ass red sox and shamrock above the tavern. Hello tacky!
Since #2 is superficial, and #1 isn't a big deterrent, I gotta go with 5 stars for this place.
The mews is great! Unless you try and go at 7:30 on a saturday, and then you will be waiting for an hr!
Who can not be happy with 69 beers on tap? Get a tasing, you can get 4 beers and try em!
Went here for halloween, def not worth the cover charge, they packed the place!
Great specials for VIP members FUN!
Dear Mews owners.... STOP ENLARGING THIS PLACE! Its WAY too big now. You never know where to find your friends! I loved this place when it was just a little bar with dollars on the wall, and the martini bar was the only place to check for your friends.
The menu is SO huge now that I feel like Im at the cheesecake factory.
I still love the main bar, and I miss the endless happy hours I used to attend, but you are losing the hometown feel that you used to have.

The food is great. The drinks are strong. Ehhhh I could do without the snotty waitstaff. It's always ridiculously loud - music is blasting, 10 TVs playing 10 different channels, and of course people yelling to try to hear each other.
If you're going for dinner on a Friday or Saturday night, plan on waiting at least an hour before you're seated. It's much less crazy during the week- which makes the experience much more enjoyable.
And, if you're from RI, you might find yourself dragged into a high school or college reunion .. because they all still hang there :)
They have 3 bars and a restaurant. The main bar is where happy hour happens and a fun place to hang out with some booths and tables. The restaurant is cool with a tree in the middle and separate enough from the bar area to make it family friendly. There's a small bar in the restaurant area that's good if you like things a little more quiet. Upstairs they have an area that's set up more like a martini bar or lounge. Often it's pretty empty up there, so if you go with a bunch of friends it kind of feels like your own VIP room.
They have 69 beers on tap and great specials all the time. There's no better happy hour in the area. They have different free happy hour food daily, but the best time to go is when they serve their awesome pizza. They have a solid food menu with good quality overall even if it is a little overpriced. The most popular night is definitely their monthly pint night when you get a free pint glass when you order a pint of that month's beer.
Pros:
Lots of Beer
Cool Ambiance
Awesome Happy Hour
Good Drink Specials (Happy Hour and in the bar)
Large Selection
Pretty Good Food
Tree in the middle of the main dining room
Good Specials
Relaxed Crowd
Cons:
Chances are you will have a wait
No reservations
The Worst mozzarella sticks
It is hard to get a table in the bar
You may have to cope with some hippies
Great atmosphere, a classic pub. Service was so so on a Tuesday night, even while we were ponied up to the bar. Wings were awesome - the asian peanut especially - but the calamari came out cold and soggy. Pizza was decent, I tried a bit of everyone's. Lots of characters (old guys trying to hit on young girls) so great for people watching.
This place is a lot of fun! We decided that a trip to Newport for dinner would have been a pain, so while staying at the Hamilton Village Inn (right up the road, kinda) we picked this place right out of the yellow pages. This place is a beer-forward restaurant that you can bring the whole family to (vegetarians like yours truly included), but still isn't a family-oriented place (that phrase makes the bile boil up). Oh, 69 beers on tap? Yeah, get a flight.
I'd be more than happy to visit again.
I took a trip down to South County with the sister for her birthday and she really wanted to go to this place. I had never even been to Wakefield much less the Mews, but I will be back!
There are 3 or 4 different sections of the complex--it's all built in a big old barn, and we ended up eating in the downstairs tavern area. The atmosphere is pretty excellent, a highlight being a ceiling covered in one dollar bills with messages written on them. We estimated based on looking at a square foot and counting, that there is about 15,000 dollars stapled to the ceiling. If you are a burgler with a lot of time on your hands, cut me in, you heard it from me.
The beer menu is pretty damn amazing. Really wide selection. One of my friends who is a regular commented that she has tried to find a couple selections on the menu in liquor stores and other restaurants but has only found them here.
For starters, I really enjoyed the calamari, which was just slightly battered and extremely tasty. I had one of their burgers and I will be hard pressed to try something different next time I go. It was an excellent, pefectly cooked all-Angus burger, that just seemed to be the perfect size for my stomach. Well done Mews.
What the Mews does, they do extremely well. Looking for beer? 69 different taps ( a few root beer and ciders thrown in, but we'll forgive them) with a list of scotches and bourbons that would stun Foster Brooks in his tracks. (for you young 'uns look him up on youtube)
The food is fresh with quality ingredients...a menu that has something for everyone. Well done.
My review for the Mews is really trying to consist of 'Mmmm, beer....' but I'll try and be coherent.
The Mews has nearly 70 different types of beer on tap, with rotating seasonal specials and a great happy hour with free (actual dinner) food. Two-dollar pints to complement a very tasty dinner menu - mmm, yummy.
This place is more than just a good place to go because there is nowhere else to go in Wakefield but it isn't worth more than one trip from providence.
If you are a good New Englander, meaning you find variety overwhelming and hate good beer, then stay away from Mews Tavern.
Don't be fooled by the 69 beers on tap, this isn't only a "drink a beer bar." Of course it is a great place for a beer with nearly all general types of beer represented and then some. Surprisingly, though, they manage to hold nearly as much liquor as they do beer. That menu at your table is not for food, it is an endless list of liquor varieties.
The atmosphere is comfortable for almost anyone but certainly not terribly hip. The price is right though, with many quality beers under $5.00
Mew's is a great place to go if you are in the area, and worth the trip if you are craving that one hard to find beer or just feel the need to have 69 different beers instead of the 69 Budweiser's you usually down in a night.
The Mews Tavern is a casual dining establishment with a certain flare for turning the obvious into the interesting. They have, beer pizza, burgers, wings and other great pub delicacies that they manage to package in a fun atmosphere. The interior is deceptively larger, even cavernous compared to what you can see from the street view. The decoration is is rustic, if not a bit kitchy.
* 69 Beers on tap. Imports and micro brews. Very reasonable prices on pints. When you are out of beer, you flip the license plate sign to NEED BEER from HAVE BEER. It works.
* While we did not have the pizza we got to watch the brick oven pies being made while we waited. There was a 25 minute wait for a table on a Monday night. Every pie I saw looked delicious, it was sort of torture having to wait while these were flying by.
* Burgers were what we were after and what we got. The basic hamburger, but they have some nice add-ons. I got the G.F.Y.S. Burger. It had bacon cheddar cheese and jalapenos. The "F" stands for what you think it does. They have a turkey burger.
* They had straight cut, slightly thick fries, that were better than the curly version. The Onion rings are thick, good but not stellar.
* Salads were decent, I had a side ceasar that was tasty and larger than I expected.
* We didn't get to the wings this trip, we will be back.
* Get dessert: The Turtle Cheesecake was the best.
* Wide-screen TVs all over we watched the Sox from our table.
* Service was acceptable, we had a few items they forgot but those did not show up on the bill. The environment is fairly chaotic, and large parties are the norm not the exception.
Summary: A fun place with reasonable prices. From my observation of the locals, this is the sort of place your mom and dad take you to when you are a kid and you keep coming back with your friends after you have left the nest. If you are on vacation in RI this presents a nice break from the ubiquitous seafood restaurants. Hit it!
went back just the other day.
menu is the same, a few of the specials looked good.
the martini bar is NO longer upstairs. its a irish pub or something now ..
oh, and i am VERY disappointed that they dont have yuengling on tap. i know that yuengling doesnt sell beer past NY or whatever but this place has 69 beers on tap and cant get yuengling? wtf... this brings it down a star, plus our waitress was just okay.

If you like beer half as much as I like beer, you'll love Mew's Tavern. The selection is terrific, and seasonal. The food is above average. But you don't go to Mew's for the food, or else you're not my friend. Sometimes it's filled with local families, sometimes with annoying townies, and sometimes with the dreaded tourists, but stick with the beer and it won't matter.
This is one of my favorite places ever. It has changed ALOT since I first went here in 1997. However, they have not taken my favorites off the menu! I start with the veggie nachos. They give you tons of chips but charge you 50 cents for extra salsa/sour cream which you are going to need. I usually get the Lucifiers Lunch with a veggie burger. Very spicy. Very good. A friend just told me that the Mews has changed the veggie burgers. I will be there in a couple of weeks to check it out. The toll house cookie pie is a great dessert. The Mews has a TON of beers to choose from. Try the beer sampler where you get pick the ones you want to try. The Mews is constantly changing its structure and menu but it has stayed quite good through all the changes.

Lucifer's Lunch...that's all I have to say. If you like spicy sandwiches then this is the food for you...jalepeno galore.
Environment here is very conducive for a get together of friends. They also have 69 beers and TVs for your sports watching pleasure. (Definately a college hang out type of place) There are quite a few different rooms...the happy hour room is quite interesting there's free food there and many dollar bills stuck up on the ceiling....my mother got a kick out of that when I showed her the room. I admit one of my dollars is up there! There is also a low key room with couches and a bar. And of course the resturant itself with a tree in the middle of it.
It's a very all american pizza and sandwichs joint...and I admit I do crave thier menu on occasion...
I can't find any spicy chicken sandwich that matches to thier Lucifer's Lunch Too bad they aren't located in CA too.
"No crap on tap" is the name of the game at this spot - with 69 beers (!) on draft. During breaks from college, I used to come here on the first Wednesday of each month, when they give away a free pint glass with each purchase of their featured beer. It's a great deal if you're looking to get drunk and stock your kitchen cabinets.
I've never had food here- but the upstairs bar is awesome! Downstairs is great for a big group- noisy and crowded. (Which is sometimes exactly what I want.) Upstairs is much more cozy and quiet. Great for lounging on the sofa and drinking martinis or wine!
if you grew up in rhode island, plan on seeing at least five people from your past here on any given night. 20 during big holidays.
Variety is the theme here at the Mews. 69 beers on tap, lots of liquor choices, and a novella of a menu make this place worth the trip from Providence or elsewhere. Make sure you try the Cajun Scallop soup and the Sweet Potato Fries - both grade A+ choices. Be prepared to wait for a while on a Friday or Saturday night, but if you're up for a drive this is a great place to watch a Pats or Sox game on the large collection of big-screens throughout the 3 or so dining areas.
