10 reviews for Metropolis
A colleague and I went in to pick up some ribbon one lovely day this week, and were pleased to meet the proprietor. He was awesome and helpful to us, and had a very lovely selection of ribbon.
The store is a great place for little gifts, cards and wrapping. It's a great little neighborhood shop that I recommend.
WHOO! metropolis; perfect gift idea place. They have stickers ranging from unicorns to old fashion cars and they have simple sophisticated bags to more elegant decorated ones. They have small gift ideas, art, and a wide selection of cards. Perfect place to find the right card- from lesbian cards to sports cards to child cards..the list goes on I found cards with ideas I've never even thought of or seen before.
I went in lost looking for a small gift for a friend found a small colored bag decorated it with stickers, put in some tissue, and some gifts all bought in one store. Marvelous! On Art walk days you can explore the magnets and gadgets while others are viewing the art so it's not crowded and well, it's convenient. The owner is very nice and although there are not a lot of kids things there are many reasons just to stop by for a peak.
Metropolis is a terrific neighborhood card shop. Actually, I don't even live in the neighborhood anymore, but I come back to stock up on cards, or to look for nice gift ideas. Year after year, Metropolis is a great place to shop.
I find the displays in the store to be well put together, and the selection of cards and gifts (picture frames, soaps, candles, calendars, novelty items) to be great. Their new location actually seems to have a bit more space than the old one, so I find I spend some more time when I stop in.
The service is reliably friendly and helpful. Both the owner and the employees are reason enough to shop here. I find the old 2007 review about rude service to be hard to believe, though it is true that they have some nicer items, so it may not be the best place to let your children play around unsupervised. My interactions, and those that I've had many occasion to observe between the owner, employees, customers, and children have always been friendly, helpful, and professional.
My only suggestions would be for longer hours, and an even more expanded greeting card selection.
Tip: regular shoppers can use a punch card, which when filled, allows them to get a significant discount on a future purchase.
Itis always do much fun to go in here.
I always leave with something for one thing or another.
Cards, low cost favors, little gifts.
I have appreciated the staff with whom I have met and conversed many occasions.
Great neighborhood shop. 4-stars because I wish things were a tad cheaper for my limited budget.
They have the cutest selections of candles, cards, home items, gift items, gift wrap supplies, cards, etc. etc. I love just browsing around to see what new items they get. It always smells so good in there, it is hard to resist buying another scent for my place. Everyone that I've interacted with that works there has been nothing but friendly. They know many of their regular customers by name which I love in a store.
Great merchandise, great service, great atmosphere! It seems that great would be the word to sum up Metropolis!
It surprises me that on more than one occasion I have walked out of here without finding a card. Especially since it's a card store and their specialty is greeting cards. But, it's happened.
They do have a good selection of birthday cards, but their holiday section is small. They also carry gift wrap, stationery, magnets and random toys.
It's a fun place to browse if you enjoy paper, but be warned that they keep it warm in there. I always end up a sweaty mess by the time I leave.
I have been going to Metropolis since I was like 5 years old. They have been around for decades. At first I went in for the candy, then for the cards, then for the funky gift ideas and now all three and more. I love the party supplies they have and I never walk out of there without getting a great card. They have a wonderful variety.
The store is very spacious and the owner(s) are so wonderful. Fully recommend this store!
The owner, behind the counter, might be the biggest reason people come in here. He gets out from behind the counter to help you without being asked. He put my 10 incense sticks for a dollar into a bag to make it easier to carry around without my asking, and did it with a smile. It's a card and gift shop. They're a dime a dozen in any city. But he has cool pinwheels and a bucket of rubber chickens and incense and magnets and cards and sparkly, plastic door hangers, and he's just so nice. If you're in the area, get your cards and gag gifts here.
Very nice and friendly -- a big plus with soulless national chains and mail stores. Funky selection of buttons and magnets, pop-up greeting cards are a must. Goofy-friendly. Artsy, with plenty of fun when you're planning a theme party (tiki?).
RUDE OWNER. If you have kids, don't take them to this shop! They have toys and candy at a child's eye level which leads to a child wanting to touch and check it all out, which my child did and the owner yelled at him in front of other customers instead of asking ME to tell my child to stop touching everything. My child was hurt by this man's tone. :( Maybe the guy was having a bad day, but whatever the case may be it was not cool!
