    Metropolis Manifests a Mega Mindblow.

I came in here only needing a simple bike light for my cruiser. Jimmy was exceptional.  He took me by the hand over to the lights (ok, he just said follow me) and we frolicked over to the wide selection of bike lights together.  After a brief chit chat of my bike riding M.O., we determined I just needed something simple.

He offered to put both the front and back lights on for me, took my bike inside the shop and went to work. He noticed my tires were running low on air and my handle bars were a bit loose.  He didn't ask or offer to fix it, he just did, took care of it - no extra charge.  That's customer service.

I even asked the stupidest question, "So like, how do tires go flat?" to which he replied WITHOUT an ounce of arrogance, "well rubber is a pretty porous material.  So, no matter how much you ride, air will seep out eventually.  Smoother and easier ride when they're just right."  I completely appreciate him answering my air-headed question sans underhand insults.

Their selection of bikes and accessories are certainly vast, yet still an eclectic variety.  If I ever feel like getting a new bike, I'll know where to go.  One can tell the staff is happy to spread the love of riding and happy to answer any and all questions.  Overall excellence indeed.

    May Metropolis Make your Month.

Metropolis is a place to buy bikes that have style. The store is keen to selling only quality bikes. The people who work at the store are very passionate about bikes and are very helpful with choosing a bike. The repair shop is good at getting maintenance  done quickly and doing it correctly.

I bought my Electra Townie from here about 6 years ago. When I started to ride that bike around town people would compliment me since it's an above average bike. Very stylish you can say. When I bought the bike the store provided a lifetime maintenance guarantee where they will tune my bike whenever I want. I had brake issues before and the repair shop fixed it for no cost.

I bought a Nirve Hello Kitty bike here several years ago as a gift for my girlfriend. One of the parts was discovered to be defective so the store worked with the manufacturer to get a replacement part which they did.

Allot of accessories are sold here. And, I'm about cool ones! They sell things like Ceramic Skull Ornaments that can be mounted to the front of the bike to bling out tire valve caps. Who else sells stuff like that?

Selection of bikes is really dope. They pretty much sell any type of bike you want from beach cruisers, mountain bikes, unicycles, chopper bicycles, etc... Lots of good high end brands. If you want a cool looking bike this is the place to go!

Well i was doing some research before purchasing a bicycle and Metropolis was my first stop.  I spoke with Ulysses who took the time to explain the different styles of bikes.  He asked what kind of riding i would be doing and that way he could better gauge which would be the right bike for me.  There was never any pressure to purchase anything from Metropolis and Ulysses talked to me as if we were friends for years.

Unfortunately i didnt purchase a bike here at Metropolis but as its in my neighborhood and since i got a great vibe from Ulysses, this will be our go to LBS.

On a side note, they do stock lots of nice cruisers and electric bikes, as well as tons of accessories.  Very nice selection of cruisers and some hybrids that have some awesome paint schemes.

Wow what a pleasant surprise I went to get a basket and I got that and great service.   Jimmy was my go to guy at the counter and he quickly pointed out what I need once we had afound basket for twenty five he asked if u wanted black or white.  He notched my bike wa black so he said how bot black and I agreed.  He went back to get the black one and I tested out the fit.  I got one for twelve dollars down the street at Willis.   And to my amazement he said ok he you go twenty.   I thanked him and smile the time.   I highly recommend this place. Call first to make sure there are not too busy.   Come check out it for a great deal

I went into Metropolis last Saturday just to have a look at some bikes.  I'd also stopped by Universal and Athena, which were both above my price range (and offered $50 tune-ups!), and they both had slightly rude employees.

NOT the case at Metropolis.  The guy I met with Saturday was very friendly and helpful, and he immediately took me to the bikes in my price range without trying to sell me anything else.  I went back in on Sunday with the intention of buying one of the cheapest bikes they had, but the girl who helped me explained why the Electra Cruiser 7D would be the perfect bike for me.  Boy, was she right!!!  I absolutely love my bike, and I was so thrilled to have such a helpful, unpretentious salesperson helping me.  I ended up buying one of their nice Kryptonite U-Locks, and I really appreciated all the tips the salesperson had for me, since I'm a first-time rider.

I met a couple of the other customers while I was waiting for them to look over my bike and tighten everything up, and I couldn't have asked for a more positive experience all around!  The shop is huge, the employees and customers are great, and I felt so comfortable spending more than 3 times what I expected on a bike!  ;-)

Can't wait to go in for my first free tune-up!

Awesome place. Great selection of bikes and good customer service. The prices can be slightly high, but there aren't too many cool bike shops like this one this side of town. They're stocked with Electra, Nirve, Schwinn and then they have the bigger brands that I can't afford! If you're into bikes and you live in North Hollywood, Studio City or Valley Village, odds are that you've already been here. The thing that is most impressing for me is how clean the shop is and how professional the place looks. It's almost got a bit of a museum vibe, haha. Check it out, it's cool!

I've purchased three Electra cruisers from Metropolis. The first cruiser was purchased in 2007.  I was extremely impressed with the store's wide variety of bikes and accessories, and I was very happy with my new Gypsy cruiser. All work that I had done to my first bike in 2007 and 2008 was quick and easy.  They called to keep me informed f their progress and any delays. Since then I have purchased two more Electras - a vanilla Townie and a cream Amsterdam. I love the bikes except for a few minor problems with the Amsterdam's assembly. I don't believe it was done properly the first time around. Unfortunately I don't feel comfortable taking my bikes into the shop anymore even though they are covered with a lifetime warranty by the shop. Since 2009 to present I have experienced the worst possible customer service from Metropolis Bikes. Every time I've had them work on my bike, I've had to call them repeatedly to get an ETA on their progress. I hate harassing them, but they give the impression that they need constant reminding that they have your bike and it's waiting to be worked on. It's like they forget that it's there or think you can wait several days to get your bike back.  A simple tire change and tune up takes multiple days. I had both tires replaced with new skinnier tires, plus a back rack installed at Helen's in Santa Monica in an hour. It took Metropolis two days to replace the tube in my front tire and put on a new chain. They're slow and the work they produce isn't what you would expect given the ample amount of time they allow themselves to work on the bike.

The store's selection and variety of bikes is still amazing, but the quality of their work and customer service leaves much to be desired. I used to love this shop but now I'm looking for another place to do my repairs. The warranty isn't worth the wait.

Metropolis has the best bike repair shop for us "non-fanatics."
I've taken my old bike in there for tune-up/repair, and had excellent results both times.  The crew there seem to be there because they love bikes. Always friendly, honest, quick turn-around, great work.  This is where I would go if I still lived nearby.  It's the perfect neighborhood bike shop!!  Good selection of new bikes, competitive prices on most of them.  And you'll know you're dealing with someone reputable.

I've had 2 very bad experiences at the shop - I should have learned after the first.

I brought in a year-old bike for a tune up.  $75 later, the wheel rubbed so badly on the brake, I had to take it back into the store before I got it to the car.  They made excuses, put it back on the rack and tinkered away. The wheel still rubs, but I don't think it's worth dealing with them anymore.

I tried to buy a bike there and was shocked by what a liar Ulysses is.  I had my eye on a bike and asked why it was on "closeout".  He told me the bike had a "good story" and that he had exchanged a few parts on the bike, which is why it is such a good price. I realized the bike was used, but Ulysses insisted otherwise.  I had to point out that there was someone's name written in pen on the tire for Ulysses to finally change his "good story".  "Fine, it's used, but I'll fix it up good as new".  When I came back 3 days later to pick up the "tuned-up" bike, it could barely shift through the gears.  After insisting there's a "special way" to shift this bike (even though it shifted fine on my previous test ride) another employee suggested that the shifter is just out of line.  I told Ulysses I couldn't buy the bike.

They somehow make bikes worse - beware.

After reading all of the great reviews about this shop I decided to go check it out for myself.  I really didn't intend on buying a bike that day, just to do some more research and price the bikes out, but I couldn't resist and bought a cute, comfy seven speed Electra cruiser.

Everybody there was extremely helpful and couldn't have been nicer.  The girl who helped me out brought out several bikes for me to test ride and explained the difference between all of them.  I opted for the Electra because of their design (they really are more comfortable than riding a non-Electra bike) and because it looked good.  I also got some baskets for the bike that they installed for me.  Gotta love that!

This shop may be a little more expensive, but they're not selling cheap bikes that you can get at Target that have been marked up.  They're selling higher quality bikes so you have to expect to pay more.  Plus, they offer lifetime maintenance and tune-ups on any bike that you buy from them.  Gotta love that too!

I'm very happy with my experience at Metropolis and am even happier that I have a bike again!

Metropolis Bikes is mecca for bicyclists of all levels in Los Angeles, maybe the world. If our government was run by Metropolis Bikes, I think we could achieve world peace. Seriously.

Oh my gawd, I need to sing out of love for Metropolis right now.   This bike shop infused my soul with joy.

You just call out my name,
And you know whereever I am
Ill come running, oh yeah baby
    To see you again.
    Winter, spring, summer, or fall,
All you have to do is call
And Ill be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
    You've got a friend.

I do have a friend. *Brushes away tears* This place is a love fest. People here love bicycles. They love helping Angelinos/as find the perfect bicycle to suit their needs. They ride for the love of riding or the for love of being green (not for poser quasi-hippy reasons). Hooking up someone with the bicycle designed for their soul, gives them unadulterated pleasure. No apathy here! Makes you want to roll around naked down a hill with strangers. Or maybe that's just me.... I digress.

No pressure. No judgement. No asking me about my budget. I told them that I hadn't owned a bicycle in 10+ years. However,  I no longer wanted to drive around LA & fight parking when I have to do errands that were within a 6 mile radius of my house. I explained that I was looking for quality and NOT a flashy bicycle.  Come on, I drive a Honday Civic Hybrid for goodness sakes.  I think it's time to sing again, "I'm still, I'm still Ani from the block.  Used to have a little, now I have a lot.  I refuse to buy rocks, green is what I got." Essentially I wanted a bicycle that would last for years and be powerful enough to assist me going up the damn hills back to my house.

A very kind young man listened to all of my needs. He recommended a Raleigh Hybrid (commuter bike). I asked a million questions. I'm a bicycling newbie. He wasn't even remotely irritated. Hell, he was happy to educate me b/c he loves bicycles and wants to pass on the info to the mass public. I felt comfortable. I immediately trusted him. Between him and the manager (another incredibly awesome, warm, kind dude that loves riding) all of my questions were answered.

They souped up my bicycle -- made it bad ass. Hella cute "I love my bike" horn, side collapsible baskets, lock w/ mounting system, beverage holder & front and back lights. They want my bike to be ready to go whenever I need it, so I don't have an excuse not to ride. I told you, they love bicycles. They didn't throw the most expensive items my way. They told me exactly what I needed and would even say things like, "you don't need to buy the pricier version, this will suffice." HONESTY. TRUST.

As I waited for my bicycle to get souped up, I spoke to a lovely Parisian girl. She worked at Metropolis. Super friendly.   We passed the time while making small talk. Good people work for Metropolis.

People have this assumption that mom & pop, local Joe kinda places will charge you tons. Not true. I got my bicycle for a steal. Metropolis will service my bicycle FOR FREE for life. Free tuneups for life. Jigga what??? They seriously want me to come back regularly  to help maintain my bicycle. They recommended getting a tuneup every 4 months.

I love my bicycle so much. I am filled with joy for making this purchase. I even have a name for my blue princess -- Ms. Blueberry -- aka Blues (shiny and blue and good for me too!). I need to sing again.  I have a terrible singing voice.  If you heard me sing, you'd spray vomit all over me.

    Isn't she lovely
    Isn't she wonderfull
    Isn't she precious
    Less than one minute old
I never thought through love we'd be
Making one as lovely as she
But isn't she lovely made from love

Oh blues, why you gotta make my heart hurt oh so??

I bicycled to a friend's house yesterday. She lives a little over 5 miles away. I felt at one with nature, even with cars driving like f8ck-nuts around me. My buttocks, thighs, upper back and arms are killing me. Loves it. I hate making time for the gym. "Sorry girls, I can't meet up for a drink b/c I have spinning at 6:30 pm." Screw that. I'd rather incorporate exercising as part of my daily routine. I plan on running all of my errands today on bicycle. Rock hard body, here I come.

An absolutely f8ck-fan-tastical bicycle shop. Everyone was all smiles. Nothing fake happening here. It was a love fest.

I came here specifically because I knew Metropolis carried Electra bikes, so there was no sticker shock disappointment for me. See, Electra is like the Cadillac of bikes, and since it seems I can do nothing half-arsed, I needed the most stylish and comfortable of cruisers to roll around town in. Of course I did. Sheesh.

I will be honest-I had not rode a bike since I was about 12. But the employees of Metropolis didn't look at me like I was some silly, spoiled girl who just wanted another shiny toy. Andrew saw me eying the new Electra Om and simply commented on how cool it was, that I could hop on for a test any time and let me hold the bike overnight for a refundable $20 deposit so I could come back and give it a whirl (I was in a skirt that was not conducive to riding without breaking my neck). Well, the next day and after just minutes on that bike, I knew my credit card was about to get $600 heavier.

Andrew also helped me pick out a proper lock and was funny about telling me I could try on the helmets but sagely warning me not to look at myself in the mirror because there is no way to not look dorky wearing one. So true-I still haven't looked.

After making my purchase another employee offered to help me get the bike in my car and when I declined, told me to just come back if I did need any assistance. And thank goodness, because after struggling to get it in there and failing, he helped me remove the handlebars to fit it into my truck so I could get it home and ride around like I later did, smile permanently painted on my face.

A really interesting shop. They have a great selection of modern cruisers and comfort bikes, as well as affordable mountain bikes. They don't really have  much in the way of road bikes, though they told me that they plan to expand in that area. They also love single speeds (more so than fixed, but they'll probably hook you up with that route if you prefer). Their selection of accessories is of the funky and eclectic sort - such as pink leopard print basket liners, as well as the more sophisticated Brooks leather goods.

Their greatest strength, however, is the staff. They are extremely friendly and have a passion for riding and a love of the bikes they carry. I picked up from these guys a 70's Chicago Scwhinn cruiser for my girlfriend that they had "recycled" - which is they stripped everything, cleaned and powdercoated the frame, and rebuilt it with all new parts. The bike is a real stunner that always gets compliments when we're out. I could tell that Steve, the employee who was responsible for the rebuild, was really proud of his work. We saw him out on a Midnight Ridazz a couple of months ago, and, spotting his work, he joyfully asked "How's she riding?"

This is the place to go if you've got a classic cruiser that could use some new life or are looking for a modern ride that's casual and comfortable.

After further dealing with Metropolis I retract all positive things I previously had to say. My experience today with the staff(over the phone) in regards to a situation regarding a repair that went terribly wrong was less than pleasurable to say the least. They showed a pretentious attitude and a serious unwillingness to make up for a mistake that they admitted to making. Now I am out a $45 dollar tire and a perfectly good tube.

Thanks Metropolis. I actually DO hate you. Don't go here.

A great shop for getting your bike serviced.

I, unlike most learned to ride and have completely forgotten how to get back on again, BUT, I worked with a tri-athlete at my last gig and I recall many lunch hours of tagging along with her to this store for her various bike needs and the people always seemed to do a great job and turned it around quickly.

So if you are in the Valley and need a repair, here's a great place!

This place is indeed "as good as it gets". Several previous reviews have laid down glowing comments about one of the employees, Brad, and they are not exaggerating. Not only is he super helpful, knowledgable, patient and friendly, he is clearly passionate about biking. Obviously if you're at a bike shop, you're already interested in biking but after talking to Brad, I felt extremely enthusiastic about getting my butt back on two wheels!

More on the staff: It was around 5pm on a Sunday (closing time for these guys) when a customer walked in needing a relatively minor repair on his bike so that he could ride on Monday. One of the employees immediately offered to stay late to do the repair. I couldn't believe it. At my job, if people get asked to stay late, more often than not, they bitch about it.

The bike selection is fantastic. If you're an avid cyclist, whether it be mountain or road, Metropolis will likely have what you're looking for. If you're into the cutesy or retro bikes, they've got that too. Want a personalized "fixie"? Get in your car right now and go to Metropolis. They had the nicest looking single speeds out of all the shops I went to. They were soooo nice looking, I was super tempted to get one despite the fact that that is not what I was shopping for.

Metropolis concentrates more on bike selection and service rather than accessories. Having said that, they still have a crazy selection of even crazier accessories including handle bars, seats, racks, baskets, lights, bells, water bottles and such but they don't have biking clothing like I've seen at a few of the larger stores.

The prices are high, but not unfair. I've shopped all over LA and if you want a new, nice back, get ready to fork over boo-coo bucks. There are certainly cheaper bikes at other stores and of course there's always Craig's list, so it depends on what you want.

I cannot comment on the service as I haven't had my bike serviced there (yet!).

Check this place out!!! I generally am not a huge fan of North Hollywood but this is certainly one of their gems. Make a day of bike shopping or servicing and then check out Iliad Books, which is not too far away. (I've reviewed that place too as it is also wonderful.)

I am not an avid cyclist by any means but I do love riding.  Every morning before work you can find me in Griffith Park.  So when I hit something big and messed up my back rim I was crushed.  I spent the day at work scouring Yelp to find a place to get it repair as quick as possible.  Lo and behold, Metropolis Bikes was just what I was looking for.

It has been a LONG time since I took my bike in to be repaired so I didn't know what to expect.  The shop looked nice from everything I gathered.  I was more concerned with getting my ride fixed so I wasn't paying close attention.  Greg (I believe that was his name) said it would be approx. $15 and should be done by the end of the day.  "Great!"  I thought.  End of the day comes and no call.  "Oh well, probably just didn't get to it.  I can go another morning without riding."

When I call the next morning to check in on it I am told that they did call.  "Probably just blowing smoke my @$$" I think.  And a couple spokes were ruined and needed to be replaced.  Oh well, they are the experts.  $21 total is still a deal in my mind.  So I go in and find out, yes, the work number I gave them was wrong.  My bad.  Mid-repair Greg turns around and says "I knew it was the wrong number!  I ended up calling a flowershop!"  We all had a laugh at that one.

I took the bike out this morning and MAN what a difference!  So smooth.  I even recommended Metropolis to one of my co-workers because I had such a great experience.

The gang at Metropolis are everything you could ever want in a local bike shop.  Friendly, knowledgeable and the kind of service you could only hope for.  These guys are fantastic, they're not bait and switch artists trying to sell you a bunch of stuff you don't need.  They're looking to help you find the bike and equipment that suits your riding style best.  They have bikes ranging from your professional level road bikes to 20" freestyle/street bikes to super cool low rider beach cruisers and a staff that knows the ins and outs to all of them.

If you were just going here to get a bike and be on your marry way that would be fine.  But, the gang at Metropolis really make you feel welcome, like you want to hang out and listen to the stories behind the construction of many of their custom bikes.  Not to mention a top notch repair shop and a custom fabrication shop.  They'll even schlep your 8 foot long beach cruiser in the back of their van and deliver it to your house because it's too big to fit in your car.  Impeccable service, incredibly reasonable prices and a group of people that make your proud that you bought something at a locally owned shop.  So the next time you're thinking about purchasing a new bike, skip the trip to your local Wal-fart, TarCrap or chain sporting good shop and go visit the nice people at Metropolis!  You won't be disappointed.

When I first moved to L.A., I had a vintage Raleigh 10 speed that needed a tune-up. While i was there, the owner (Drew maybe?) mentioned that he had a vintage Raleigh basked he'd been saving because he knew someone with a Raleigh would come in some day. So, my bike was complete.

I've been in a few times over the years to get a little this and that, mostly for my hybrid bike, like a rack and super-cool rear light that flashes and is generally impossible to ignore (bought on recommendation of one of the staff as the best light in the store. I'd have to agree, as this is my commuter/shopping, etc. bike. I wanna be seen!)

They've always been polite, nice, helpful and generally a fun crew that loves bikes. Since I'm a student right now and broke, I don't always get tons of attention every time I'm in. They know I'm just "window shopping" and if they're busy (a lot of the time they are) I won't be their top priority. It's a small shop and the "people resources" are not infinite.

But if you need something and you're a little patient, you will get good service. Not to mention the free lifetime tuneups if you buy a bike through them.

These days, I stop in every couple of months to sigh over "my" bike - the purple and gold Electra that I'm going to buy myself somehow. They indulge me. I just imagine it, cruising along the beach some day, with a lazy gold and purple dragon banner that I'm going to make myself, snapping along behind me. The envy of all...

I just got myself a sweet murdered out Electra from Metropolis and I can't stop riding it.

The sales staff was attentive and helpful. The store is filled with fun and vibrant bikes and accessories. The prices are a little high, but I feel like it's worth paying a little more with the piece of mind you get buying from Metropolis. They told me I could bring my bike in anytime for a free tuneup and I bought a U-lock which they mounted on my bike for me while I waited.

Very positive experience and I plan on going back for all of my accessories.

You can test ride any of their bikes in the parking lot too which is a cool little bonus.

If you're looking for a cruiser, bmx or city bike then definately give these guys a chance to earn your business. They don't carry Road/Mountain Bikes. They have a few singlespeed bikes in their back room as well.

I'm giving them 4 stars because despite what they don't carry, they still built up my custom fixed gear in 2 days and were more than happy to take on the project.

But if you're someone that just wants a simple cruiser to putt around on the weekends this place's in-house stock will most likely suit you.

They also carry those adorable Elektra City Bikes like the Amsterdam.

Bought a nice Electra as a gift. Staff was super helpful and let me take my time, helping with budget, questions, tips, accessories, test rides... I bet they wasted 5 hours on me between a few visits before I bought.  Each time they had a smile and didn't rush me. I knew they wanted me to get what i wanted. Lifetime tuneups is cool too!

When my boyfriend and I were searching for bikes, we had no idea where to start. We had gone to several bike shops in the area and were overwhelmed. No one was helpful and we were more confused than ever about what we wanted. Each bike shop we went to pushed bikes on us rather than trying to figure out which bikes were best for us.

After reading reviews on Metropolis, we decided to check it out - and we are now happy bike owners!

Everyone at Metropolis was so nice and helpful. They had answers for all of our questions and brought out tons of bikes for us to test ride. We left with bikes that we knew were perfect for us. I highly recommend Metropolis. On top of the GREAT service, they have a wide variety of bikes AND accessories. I will forever be loyal to Metropolis!

My husband and I were thinking of taking up cycling, but we were both pretty clueless as to what sort of bikes to buy.  We're so happy to have found Metropolis Bikes here on Yelp.  We received a quick but very complete lesson about the variety of bikes we had to choose from and all our questions were answered expertly.  We even got to take a test drive...not just around the parking lot but up and down the street.

We might have been able to save 10 or 15 bucks elsewhere, but it wouldn't have been worth it.  Metropolis also offers life-long tune-ups...just bring in the bike and they'll do it on the spot, no waiting.  Heck, they even threw in two water bottle holders and the bottles to go with them!

Metropolis has a fantastic selection of all types of bikes, and they really care about making sure you get the right bike for your needs.  They carry lots of cool accessories, too.  I enthusiastically recommend this establishment.

After shopping around (and reading Yelp reviews) I finally decided that I would purchase my new bike from Metropolis.  I had scoped out their cruisers and they had, by far, some good deals compared to other places I went to.

It had been a month since I went to look around so I called the store last Friday to see if the bike I was lusting over was still there.  The guy who answered the phone was really nice and we joked around a bit.  I came by the next day and turns out that guy I spoke to was the owner.  He remembered me from the call and was absolutely charming and helpful during the whole bike buying experience!  He let me look around first before I went in for the plunge b/c he knew I was getting anxious over this big buy.  He explained the different features to me and let me test drive the bikes in the parking lot.  I was actually shy about doing it at first but he said that as the owner he demanded I go for a test drive!

He fit my helmet for me and adjusted my seat so that I would be comfy .  He even hooked me up with a free bell and big league chew!  Everyone else there was also super nice.  And i LOVE that I have a lifetime of free tune-ups.

Very chill environment, everyone is super knowledgeable, nice, and helpful, and not pushy or intimidating at all, something I was concerned about since I am a new cyclist and I felt awkward asking questions at other places!  Wonderful custom bikes, too, if you're interested in those.

    Highly recommend this place!

they probably have really good bikes, but none of the employees talked to us as we walked around the store looking for 2 bikes to purchase. not a "hello" or "someone can help you in a minute" or "just ask if you have any questions" or a nod. they seem to have a large selection but we like for people to talk to us before we invest. surprising.

I went to Metropolis a few days ago because I wanted to purchase a bike but wasn't quite sure what bike I should get.  I arrived early and while I checked out the bike selection I was approached by Evan one of the staff people.  Who was super informative and asked me what i would be using the bike for and I explained to him how I would be using it. He pulled down some bikes for me to test drive.  He was super nice and informative.  He wrote down the prices for me and I went online to check out some pricing.  I ended up purchasing a second hand bike off of craigslist.

I wanted to get the bike checked out and cleaned so I took the bike back.  The service just wasn't really up to par after that.  Evan wasn't there.  Some other guy rang me up and I asked him if I got a good deal on the bike and he didn't seem very forthcoming.  He said that the bike would be ready in a day or two and took my information.

A few days later I hadn't heard from anyone so I called them and they were like "yes your bike is ready" I was like wow why didn't anyone call me?  I got there and the showed me my bike it didn't look that much better and then no one offered to help me load it into my car.

Overall not very good service.  I was really disapointed since my little tune up was $100!

Okay, If you want knowledgable help, super service and like to support indie businesses, you'll be happy here.
I originally found them online, went in this morning and one of the three owners, Brad, spent all the time I needed assisting in purchasing my first bike in 26 years.  He graciously juggled three other customers who came in, purchased bikes and left before I could make my final selection. All told, over the course of two hours, I tried five bikes numerous times riding back and forth along the side street available from their parking lot. I was given all the help I needed in selecting and fitting a helment and car rack, as well as a primer on security and bike storage.  They even sell Metropolis coffee! Support these guys!

It really doesn't get better than this.  Thanks to all of you Yelpers, decided to check out Metropolis to get my holiday present - brand new bike, courtesy of the husband.  The kicker? First new bike ever owned. Last bike owned? $15 piece of crap back in college...um, yeah, that was a while ago.

Walked in, admitted my complete lack of knowledge to the first person I saw...an hour later I walked out with the perfect bike for me with only what I needed to take it out and ride it home. No oversell. No hype. No sales pitch. Just great information, great service, and all without any of that scary "I know more than you do, so don't bother asking" attitude I was afraid of.

I am an outspoken customer service snob.  This place rocks.

Oh, and please don't let prices scare you.  Seriously, you get what you pay for. 'nuff said.

I could not be more pleased with the selection and the customer service this store has to offer.  I had called the store after reading the reviews on Yelp to ask a few questions about pricing and such, and Ulysses was so attentive and helpful. He took his time and answered all my questions over the phone, which was surprising. Most places don't give you the time of day over the  phone. I headed over there as soon as we ended the call and bought not one, but two Electra Townie bikes with allllll the fixings. The entire staff was very friendly, it was apparent that they enjoyed where they worked. I was, and continue to be, very happy with my well-informed purchase.

This is simply, hands-down, the best bike shop I've ever been to. I live in the Marina, but will still travel back to the valley to go to this phenomenal bike shop. I have bought 3 bikes here before, and always got a good deal, a friendly smile, and no pressure.  This last time I bought, I really put them through the ringer - it seemed like whatever i bought, I just didn't LOVE my bike the way I feel bikes should be loved.  Brad, Ulysses, and Jimmy are just the nicest, happiest, truest bike-lovers, and always have smiles on their faces, even when they are crazy busy (which seems like always). Through all of my bike schizophrenia, they were warm and accommodating way past the point that they should've been (I wouldn't of put up with me, lemme tell you). In the end, they made me happy, and helped me find the bike I was looking for. Besides their awesome customer service, they have the largest inventory I've seen, and offered a discount on the same exact bike that a store near me in the Marina said they couldn't go lower on.

Customer service.  Huge inventory.  Great follow-up. There's a reason this is the best bike shop around.

Horrible.  Rebuilt a part of one of our bikes which not only fell apart, but damaged the rest of the bike within a few days.  We went back and the repairman hid in another room.  These people take no responsibility for their work.  Not a place for people who use bikes for commuting.

I hate shopping around...my price range was around $250...but I wasn't being realistic.  After seeing what Kmart, Target, WalMart & Big 5 had to offer, it wasn't going to get me what I wanted...So I went here on yelp and followed yall's advise, I went to Metropolis Bicycles on Lankershim just past Camarillo.

I actually found a bike that I absolutely loved for under that.  I had a dream the night before and it sounds absolutely crazy...My dream consisted of me on a bike with basket large enough to fit my dog, and his ears were flapping in the air.  I knew it would cost more than that, but I was trying to be optimistic.  Seeing I hadn't owned a bike since I was about 8 years old, and I'm turning 26 next week...you can imagine how extensive my knowledge was in cycling.

As soon as I walked in I knew what the other yelpers were talking about...this place was different.  The owner answered my questions and then walked away giving me room to look around.  I was stuck on three bikes which he explained thoroughly on what they could be used for.   I have never been on a bike that had multi speeds let alone know how to use one.  He showed me and let me test ride four bikes until I was sure which one I wanted.

I was a little sad when I didn't find  a basket to fit my little mutt in... :(  But, lo and behold, he found the perfect size!!!  Evan was nice enough to stay a little late to install seeing it was already closing time.  I was sooo happy!  I bought a coffee cup holder which Amanda happily installed for me and some lights.  I got everything for under $350, and they even threw in a bell that said "I love my bike".

Sure it was over what I wanted to spend but it's much better than what they sell at Kmart and Target.  I'm very happy...so much that I will be buying a comfort bike (Now that I know what it is...) in the next couple months from these guys!  The only reason I put down Pricey as the price range is because most of the bikes were well over $300, not that that's a bad thing, because the great thing about Metropolis is that you get what you pay for, so it's worth the extra buck!  Great staff, great selection & great location!  What more can you ask for?

Like my new bike ringer says "I LOVE MY BIKE!"  and I happily give these guys my FIVE STARS all across!!!  Before you buy a bike, make them your last stop, you will see the difference!

I had a great time shopping for my bike at Metropolis! The store is well-organized, everyone was friendly, and the level of service was outstanding - minus any pressure to buy.

I had done a fair amount of online research and had narrowed my choices down to a few makes/models, one of which was Electra. Metropolis has a HUGE selection of Electra bikes. Andrew, the bike-savvy employee who helped me, could not have been nicer, more patient, or more knowledgable. He encouraged me to test-ride various bikes for comparison, and made sure the seats and handlebars were adjusted to fit me before sending me off to cruise the side-streets of NoHo. Since I was going for the full-on vintage girlie bike look, I was thrilled to see Metropolis stocks a large selection of baskets, bells and other accessories I could trick my bike out with. After spending a few hours helping me select my ride and all the goodies, they built me a new bike out of the box in less than an hour.

Truly, buying a new bike for the first time in 20+ years was more than just a pain-free experience, I actually had fun. Thanks, guys, you rock!!

this shop has got so much eye candy.
if you're a fixie freak, you'll be in heaven.
if you're looking for a solid cruiser, you're at the right place.
the prices are reasonable for the spot i guess. supply and demand is the way i sees it. fixie are sooo fetch right now, they know this, make sure you're wallet is heavy when coming here.

i don't know if i walked in at a work time or whatever, but customer service was non-existent. they saw me walk in, barely acknowledged me. and they saw me, most definitely saw me leave, looking at me like i was walking out with something, instead of a polite departure.

best way to stop shoplifting, customer service. ask a suspicious person if they need help. half the time, they're drop their plans and be about their way. sorry for going off track. i just found that annoying.

but yeah, there's pretty stuff here, but unnecessarily overpriced. go on over to a less trendy place for parts and accessories. unless of course, you got money coming out the wazoo.

    holla.

I have taken my bikes there for several years. I took one of them in for a tune-up.  The guy told my they weren't servicing any bikes and didn't know when they would be again, "because we have a lot of bikes to build."  That's the first and only time I've ever heard that from any bike shop (I've been cycling over 20 years) I sent an email expressing my dissatisfaction.  They're reply was "try a different shop (and suggested one) I'm sure you'll like them."   By far the worst customer experience I've ever had at a bike shop.
