THANK YOU METATOUCH!
This place rocks! CLEAN, peaceful, and right off the 405.
I am picky. Really picky. I'm a person who needs to have massages regularly, just for maintenance. I've tried more than one of their therapists and have zero complaints. The thing I like about Metatouch is how thorough the therapists are. The first time I went, I was given some paperwork to fill out which also asked for any pertinent medical problems (don't freak people, it's optional) so the therapist would know areas to avoid/focus on. They are knowledgeable and very experienced as opposed to the Thai places where the "therapists" sit on your back and karate chop you into misery. (UGH!) I was offered water and was given recommended exercises to strengthen my upper body. They have a pre-natal massage table (rare) so I'm going to purchase a massage for my sister-in-law!
I like and recommend the "Loyalty" promotion/package because you save $20 ($65 down from $85) if you purchase your next massage before you leave.
There's also FREE PARKING in the back! Holla! I'll definitely be a regular! -

this place is nicely decorated and easy to book an appt over the phone. the receptionist(s) is very nice and pleasant.
however, i did not get a custom massage or consultation.
my massage was only 55 minutes, but it was supposed to be for 70 minutes, including a 10 minute consultation.
the walls are very thin and i could hear an entire conversation over the soothing massage music.
and the overall massage wasnt relaxing because i felt that i was put into some awkward yoga-like poses (not sure if this is a contemporary massage technique but i dont like having my legs open like a frog unless im in yoga pants).
plus there are so many pressure points on the hands, scalp and feet that i feel my massage therapist (who had surprisingly rough, calloused hands) missed :(
parking stinks, too. -

$60 if you buy 4 at a time otherwise it's more $.
Rooms are nice, I think they have 4. Overall very clean and they have parking in the back (about 3 spaces). I would say if it wasn't so far from where I live I would probably go back more often. I started with a groupon and had about 6 more massage but with the traffic and distance, just can't do it.
Had Alice recently. Cold hands (didn't bother me), she seems best as arms, legs, and head.
They accept credit card for pay and tip. -

I have been going there 3-4 times after my first groupon experience. Sadly Judd is no longer there, he graduated from school and now works as a physical therapist. However other therapists are pretty good, and I am still happy with this place.
Just a head up, this place is a bit hard to book for the weekend. I usually call 2 weeks ahead to make my appointment.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Los Angeles, CA
I went to Metatouch roughly 6 months ago because of a Groupon. I had Juanita who was great and even booked a second massage with her. I pre-bought another massage with the hopes of booking with her a few months down the road. When I called a month ago to book a much-needed massage, she was no longer there. Bummer. I still paid for a massage, so I told the receptionist I could go with anyone...
My appt ended up being rescheduled twice, which I was annoyed with, but finally got scheduled in for today. AND I AM SO HAPPY I DID!!!
I had Michael and it was an amazing experience. He made me feel so comfortable and targeted specifically what I asked him to. I have not felt this amazing in years. Honestly...
Even though I told myself I probably won't buy a future massage because money is tight, I did....but made sure to schedule with Michael!
If you just want a basic massage to relax this might be a little pricey...But if you are like me and suffer from upper back and neck pain on a regular basis, it is worth it. You will not be disappointed!!! -

LOVE THIS PLACE!
People are super friendly and Juanita is a truly gifted therapist! I have had six back surgeries and am pretty picky about my massages. After an hour receiving shiatsu from Juanita, I feel like a new person!
Prices are also VERY good! -

I haven't been sleeping well lately, despite contorting my body into creative shapes and positions in an attempt to lull myself to sleep at night.
Potential Solution: Massage!
Parking for MetaTouch is available in the street or in the lot in back of the building.
Upon my arrival, Katie (super friendly receptionist) offered me some water and provided me with basic forms to fill out pre-massage.
My masseuse was Andrea. She was warm, sweet and professional and did a brief assessment of my preferences and special requests for the session (focus on the neck and shoulders).
Andrea worked me HARD. She went to town on every stubborn knot and tight spot and pushed, prodded, pushed, rubbed and elbow-ed out all the kinks. It was amazing and when it was over, she left me in a limp noodle-like state on the massage table where I promptly passed out for what must have been at least 15 minutes.
It was the best sleep I've gotten since being in Costa Rica. -

Clean, simple place. The place is slightly more expensive than some other places, but I did buy another massage after using a Groupon on my first visit because my masseuse was great. Her name is Christina.

I have such mixed feelings with this place. First of all, the massage was excellent. The facility was very clean and pleasant. The receptionist at the front was welcoming and helpful. I had to struggle a bit for a parking space on the street, but I got over it. I would have given this place a 5 star if that's all there is. But .... I took off one star for each of the following:
1.) I am very turned off with the way this place price their service. The full value for a massage is $100/hour. But if you come every month, it's $65. If you have a groupon, it's $50 the first two times. When you pay at the desk, there is a huge sign that reads ... be nice to your masseuse. Ok tip is 15% and that's $15. Good tip is 20% and that's $20. A fabulous tip is $25. Question: What are these percentages based on? Answer: "rack rate" of $100. How about 15% of the "normal" rate ... the rate that majority of the clients can afford to pay ... $65. So what message do I send to my masseuse if I tip him $10? That it was a lousy massage?
2.) The massage was supposed to be 1 hour. It was more like 50 minutes. If it's supposed to be 50 minutes, please say so. 50 minutes massage for $100 in Culver City with no parking? -

I was introduced via Groupon, but I bought two more sessions since because I always feel better when I leave... And you know your massage is good when you doze off because it's so relaxing!! And if you buy another session after you are done you save $20!! :)

Review from Lar H.

**UPDATED. SEE BELOW**
Where do I begin???
First off, this review is NOT to discuss the massage received at MetaTouch because I've yet to be seen by a therapist... these comments are only regarding the troubling service I've experienced with their reservation staff/front desk.
I had bought the "Two 1-hr Massages" Groupon and had been trying to make a reservation with them a few weeks ago. I must've called 3 or 4 times (during normal business hours) to no answer, so I left a message with information and asked someone to call me back to help me make the reservation...waited for days...and nothing. The final call got me in touch with someone who told me that they were booked several weekends in advance and they couldn't extend the Groupon deadline, so I had to book on a weekday. I booked it for a Wednesday morning.
When my husband said that day wouldn't work for us, he personally called back several days BEFORE the Wednesday appointment and got a hold of Holden, the owner, who confirmed that he had rescheduled us both for Monday at 2pm. Then, on Wednesday, I get a call from the front desk telling me they were going to charge me a cancellation fee because I failed to show up... I told her that my husband had spoken to Holden and he rescheduled us for another day. She seemed confused and said that Holden probably had not told her, so she didn't have it in the system. I then told her that my husband wanted a female therapist and I didn't have a preference for a male or female therapist. She said, "Perfect. I have two female therapists for you on Monday at 2pm." FINALLY, I thought...
Then I walked in today as my husband was parking and the front desk gal (Luciana?) was on the phone for about 10 minutes disputing with some department store about a credit card payment she had made that wasn't showing up as "processed" on the internet. She didn't look up at me the entire time and then she finally put the phone aside and asked me if I had an appointment, and I promptly said, "Yes, Lar and Aris." She gave me the paperwork to fill out while she carried on her personal business using work time.
When my husband walked in, she was off the phone and asked if he had an appointment, and once we replied "Yes" again, she looked him up on the system and said, "Lar, we only have you down for this appointment." We were thoroughly confused because my husband had spoken to Holden who made the appointment and I confirmed it with her over the phone when I spoke about the preference for staff therapists! She got us really worked up, needless to say. This is supposed to be a calming environment, a pleasant experience... and her lack of organization (or maybe a lack of organization and communication on MetaTouch's part!) was just appalling.
She asked if he wanted to wait one hour for a massage and we said no... we had driven a long distance through horrible rain and flood conditions to be slapped in the face with, "Oh, I don't have you in the book here," even though both my husband and I had confirmed the appointments.
Then she had the audacity to say, "Well, there must have been a misunderstanding on both our parts." REALLY? *laugh* Because in no way is making an appointment with the owner and the confirming it with you a "misunderstanding" or "lack of communication."
If I were Holden, I would seriously consider the work ethic of his front staff...
...now, we'll see how the massages go. Oh, and this time around she said she could extend the deadline of when the Groupon coupon would be honored, when she said she couldn't earlier. Anyhow, we did...and we'll see how it goes. I may update this review after the February appointment (which we confirmed in person...and which I HOPE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS SANE that our names are in the "book").
Good grief.
:(
----------------------------
So...we finally crept up into our appointment. I was seen by Lisa, a student of Ayurveda. She was very friendly and made an effort to learn about all the different activities I'm involved in that require physical strength and strain...and she promptly got to work with a set of soothing essential oils. She was equipped with some very helpful information on my bouts with tendonitis and she was even able to loosen me up to a point where the range of my hip flexors and shoulders was greatly increased. Impressive! I'm so used to "spa massages", so it was nice to learn more about my muscles and joints while also feeling the effects of the massage in one session. I was also experiencing vertigo for several weeks, which I believe was related to shoulder/neck tension...and after the massage, I haven't had a vertigo experience so far (*Crosses my fingers*).
We ended up chatting so long that we went over by half an hour... I was charged an extra $20 for it, but I felt it was worth it.
My husband and I are thinking of coming back at some point and we're hoping we have a better experience with the front staff. 2 stars still docked because of it. -
Review from Steve V.
Metatouch is a clean, professional place. I get the impression that they are more of a medicinal massage place than for pleasure. I came here for a relaxing massage and it was great nevertheless. The massage I got was the "Therapeutic" massage.
I was treated well the entire time I was there. Water was offered both before and after the massage. My only complaint would be that the masseuse wanted to have a conversation the whole time while I just wanted to be quiet and relax. -

The bf and I shared our anniversary this weekend and I thought what better way to start off the day than with a massage? My bf LOVES massages so he surprisingly obliged to the 9am appointment I made for us this past Saturday.
We dragged ourselves out of bed and through the rain to Culver City. While both of us enjoyed our massages and therapists, it was nothing special. Why did we choose to go to a therapeutic massage center? Partially because Groupon had an extraordinary deal and partially because I wanted my bf to try something new for his foot pain.
They start with a consultation and really target where you're hurting so that's a definite plus. The therapists also love to chat so if you don't mind that, it's great. Personally, I would've enjoyed more relaxation but our conversation dealt primarily with alternative ways to relieve my shoulder and back pains so it was okay. After our hour session, I felt relieved but it was more of that tender, hurt-so-much-after-being-massaged relief so it left me in pain for the rest of the day. Now after a day's rest, I feel much better so I must say it helped a lot and the therapist gave me a lot of tips that I'll definitely keep in mind.
Since we got such a great deal, we tipped them extra. Not so sure if we'll be coming all the way back from Downtown since it wasn't anything too special and it gave off much more of a physical therapy session vs. a relaxation session. But if you're looking for advice and that doctor's office feel, definitely check this place out.
Tip: Parking is not in the lot upstairs. MetaTouch parking is in the back of the building and be careful of the tandem parking or you might find yourself stuck there. If you have time, check out Green Peas next door after your massage :) -

MetaTouch is not worth the time, money or frustration! I must not have read all the Yelp reviews before purchasing my Groupon or I definitely would not have bought this one.
I have been trying to make a reservation with them for the last three weeks. Of course, they were always booked (yeah, right!) When I finally was able to make a reservation, I had to call back and reschedule it. At that time, I was informed that I did not have a reservation. I could not believe it! The woman who answered the phone explained that she was a therapist and had only answered the phone b/c she was walking by it. She seemed really confused and just said that she could not find my appt. I then proceeded to leave a message w/her for the owner. I was informed that he would call me back that same day. I waited for his return call...and nothing. I then proceeded to leave him two more msgs. He STILL didn't return my call. Later, he had someone contact me and confirm that my appt had been cancelled. (What appt?) He did not mention anything about my refund. I asked the caller AGAIN to have the owner contact me to discuss a refund. When I finally spoke to the owner of this place, he informed me to contact Groupon to get my refund.
This place is just asking to get sued for fraud! If you read other Yelp reviews, they all read the same way when it comes to the Groupon clients.
BEWARE:
After I left this review, I was contacted via Yelp by a Metatouch employee. They obviously monitor Yelp reviews (Gee, I wonder why?) She advised me that my review has been "flagged." Obviously, Metatouch doesn't want the truth to get out about their company and how Groupon members are treated. I responded by informing Elizabeth that I found it ironic that she attempted to "flag" me only after I had flagged Metatouch w/the Groupon folks.
At this point, you would think that they would simply apologize, refund my money and train their staff not to discriminate against Groupon holders. -

I hate to be a party pooper but I'm not sure what all the hype is about. I went in for a $50 spa week massage and I wasn't even impressed at that price - for the $100 they normally charged I would have felt down right ripped off. My massage therapist did a well enough job, but for a town with a massage option on every other block these prices just aren't justified. The place has a Massage Place vibe at twice the price, and I didn't get any of the "theraputic" benefits their website promotes. For a truly theraputic massage I highly recommend Massage Revolution (too bad its not closer!). Their prices are much better and their massages are more targeted to what your issues are.

I've always had a wonderful experience at meta-touch from the minute I walk through the doors.
I had severe pain in my hand and after a ONE session with Holden the pain went away.
I took my father which is 6'2 and weights about 245 pounds he has hip, Leg, and back problems. His fatigue and pain is gone or less in certain areas and he can move around better. -

Sunshine is amazing. She works parts of you that many other therapists neglect, like the the hips and the feet.
A bit more than some of the places I normally frequent but totally worth it. This is a clean, no-frills place. Burke Williams goers should look elsewhere. -

I had a massage here this weekend and I have to give it two thumbs up overall. They have a nice receptionist, convenient appointments, easy parking, a nice facility, etc.
The only issue I had was that I requested a female therapist when I called and only men were available when I arrived. The owner apologized for the confusion and it wasn't a huge deal. I certainly can't complain about the massage. It was great and I'd recommend him to others. So, let's say, if you have a strong preference about a female therapist (like George did in that episode of Seinfeld where he freaks out about getting a massage from a man) then be really emphatic when you call. And if you don't mind a male, I'd say you should ask for Eric.
I'll definitely go back. And they have a monthly membership program where you can get a massage a month for like $60. There's got to be some way to write that off your taxes, right? -

This is an excellent massage place with fairly reasonable prices. I came in on a whim when I found myself in Culver City with a couple of hours to kill. Being the middle of the day, I had no trouble making an appointment a half hour out. The office was very pleasant and clean and the staff quite friendly. My therapist had an excellent knowledge of body and found my particular tight spots right away. I enjoyed my massage and will probably be back despite the location being on the other side of town. Make sure to use their lot. My massage went longer than I expected and I ended up with a ticket from an expired meter.

Alice is the best masseuse I have ever been to. I have had a lot of really good or decent massages in the past, but she is by far the best. I have been to her twice and both times she worked out every muscle issue that I had. I had a lot of muscle tension and pain prior to the massage from going snowboarding. She has super strong hands, but yet it was still a relaxing and enjoyable massage. The first time she even told me she could help induce sleep after I said I was exhausted. She did. And I woke up feeling relaxed and pain free. I highly recommend this place and her. Also, regarding the parking issue mentioned in other reviews, I haven't had any problem parking. There is parking in the back, but also a lot of free side street parking. Perhaps the people who were complaining, came after 5PM and home owners were home, but the area still has plenty of parking availability and isn't a permit parking area only place.

I'm a physical therapist and I have keen body awareness. I know what is tight and what needs to be worked on. I did the Groupon deal because their website described what I thought I needed.....therapeutic results. I just wanted a massage to help alleviate my lower back and hip tightness. The practitioner, Juanita, wasted my time and money by giving me a "gyrotonics" lecture and demo about how she can help me with my tighness and pain. I PAID for a massage, not a personal training session. And the 20 minutes of when she actually did massage me left a lot to be desired. When you pay for a massage, you want a massage, not a waste of time and money. Sorely disappointed (literally) because I'm still tight and in pain, and now frustrated.

MetaTouch is the best massage place I've been to in LA! I first learned about them years ago, when Holden (the owner) and some of the other therapists were giving chair massages at my office. I've been a fan since!
Metatouch isn't a spa, but a therapeutic massage and bodywork place...and my treatments there have really helped relieve my lower back pain and UNDERSTAND why it was happening in the first place! Holden is awesome, as are the other staff therapists. I've brought my husband here and recommended it to numerous friends. And I'm super loyal to my therapist now...I won't really see anyone else!
Also, regarding the service -- I noticed one reviewer had a really bad time. I've never had that experience at all. I'm sad for him/her, but everyone at Metatouch has always been professional, considerate and responsible. I've always felt like they took healing seriously, and strove to make the experience good for body and spirit. Unfortunate that they had that experience, but it must have been a one-off, and I'd definitely recommend these guys! -

Booked my massage using the groupn discount. I asked for Katie but discovered she was on jury duty. The therapist I got was good but not what I would call therapeutic. It was a pleasant massage but I don't feel like she targeted my problem areas. Plus she used an excessive amount of oil which left me feeling overly greasy. Perhaps I'm too picky but I don't think this massage would ever be worth full price. It's worth trying at half off though.

Had severe lower back pain, called and got an appointment the same day, and Katie gave literally one of the best massages I've ever had -- very targeted, strong, specific, and enormously helpful: my back feels infinitely better, and I feel incredibly lucky to have found this place. This isn't generalized relaxation massage -- this is specific, therapeutic, highly targeted work -- wonderful.
