For those of you who don't know anything about capoeira or haven't tried it. It is an amazing art form. It not only combines music, "dance," and deadly fighting skills but it also gives you the workout of your life combining weight training and aerobic exercise. There was a joke in my old school about capoeira making you 38% sexier... well, I can't say what it has done for me in that department but my body and mind couldn't be happier. One of the many things that I like about capoeira compared to other martial arts that I've practiced is that it attracts people from all walks of life...dancers, ex-martial artists, women, and people who just want to get fit.
In all, I have studied it for a little over two years...mostly in Southern California with a wonderful and talented teacher...Mestre Batata at Capoeira Besouro. I thought I would never be as happy with another mestre. Well, after trying and checking out several schools in the city and Bay Area...I can finally say I that I found a new home in Mestre Low's class. He is not only a masterfully skilled capoeirista but is also a kind human being who radiates positive energy.
If you've been intimidated out of trying capoeira because of the amazing acrobatics...because you thought you would never be able to do that...or if you've been to other capoeira schools that have 50 students fighting for space and for the instructor's attention...leaving you frustrated and never wanting to come back...Mestre Low is the teacher for you. He has such a positive philosophy about capoeira and a playful personality. He is very patient...he adapts to whatever skill level you have...and he really takes his time with you. I've seen people feel at ease trying all kinds of maneuvers. You can laugh at yourself. It's great combination of laid back and serious workout. What you get is a good workout, confidence, community, and good health.Listed in: Move Your Body
