Mesa Indian Trading Company & Gallery
1 review for Mesa Indian Trading Company & Gallery
While staying in Cortez during a 2-day visit to Mesa Verde National Park, I was on the lookout for Santa Domingo bead jewelry (in fact during a whole 2-week trip, we stopped at more "trading posts" and Native American art galleries than gas stations and restaurants combined!) So despite the big glitzy look to this place, we stopped so I could see what they had to offer.
They definitely had some great pieces of jewelry and other Native American art - but OMG the prices! Seriously, I was floored - the prices were so much higher than any of the other places we'd checked out, I was amazed this place was able to stay open (then again all they'd have to do is sell one piece of Santa Clara pottery and it would likely pay their rent for a month or two).
While I can suggest stopping here to see an amazing assortment of Native arts (and lots of Native-inspired kitsch too), it's not a place I'd recommend to anyone for actually buying anything if value for your dollar matters at all.
