I've found Merchant One to be both honest and helpful.  I speak with Jim regularly and he's been helpful and very interested in my business.  Far from a con artist.  The truth is that you should contact the company and find out for yourself.

Merchant Account applications are granular to say the least.  As with any large application, you should read every line.  Ask your salesperson questions.  Find out what's right for your business.  Merchant One has been very open to negotiation and thus far has been able to beat any other offer I've had for the same service.

If you're a smart business person Merchant one is the right choice.  If you're not that committed to success, you shouldn't be setting up credit card processing anyway.

This company is run by a man named James "Jim" Saka. He is one of the rudest business owners I have dealt with in my life. The company pitches free terminals, low rates, and great customer service.

In actuality they are just middle men to real credit card processors. They will quote you one rate, then charge you another. They make promises they don't keep, and will take money out of your bank account without authorization, and will lie about why the money was taken out, and in my situation a month later I am out more then $600 in unauthorized charges.

They have 40+ complaints to the BBB and multiple rip-off reports. To all new merchants, don't get fooled by the sales pitch, IMO they will say whatever they can to sign you up so they can take your money without authorization.

    STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

I did some shopping for merchant services and found these guys online.  I signed up with their 2.19% transfer fee, .25 cent transaction fee, $5.00/mo., with no contract.

My first month I transacted $10,200.  They charged me $405.  I'm not a math wiz, but 2.19% of $10,200 does NOT equate to $405.  I called them and they told me there were some amounts were "unqualified transactions" and would be an extra 1%.  This wasn't discussed when I signed up, but okay fine.  Giving them the benefit of the doubt that the ENTIRE amount was "unqualified transactions", the worst case scenario still doesn't equate to $405.00.

Now a few days ago, they took $129.00 from my account.  I called and they said that this was a "compliance fee" in order to use their service.  I never received any notification of this, although they told me it was in my first statement.  That's weird, I never received any of my paper statements - EVER.  Further research, an online complaints board had many other Merchant One customers that are in my same situation.

I've spoke to many of their representatives that told me they'll get back to me but they never do.  I spoke to Jason and Mark.  Both of whom couldn't compute the erroneous math yet gave me no solution.  I was told by both I will hear back from them in a few days, it's been weeks.

Merchant One, your unethical business practices will soon catch up with you.

I signed up in March and had never used the service, because i just wanted to have the option to use it.  usually i get paid in checks.  Anyway in July i recieved a charge for 129.00 from them and called to see what it was.  They said they stated in the last statement that there was a charge for training.  I never recieved any training and told them i was going to cancel my account.  You then have to send the usb swiper back and fill out forms.  Now i am recieving a statement from them for $50.00 and they say they are sending me to collections.  This is totally BS.  They don't have any Customer Service.   DON'T SIGN UP WITH THIS COMPANY.  THIS IS A WARNING!
